Guest Reviews

- Alexandra (5/5): A fuir!

- Ruud (8/5): Great place if you don't need luxury - The owner and personnel are really nice people, explaining everything, good sense of humour (at least I thought so as a Dutchman), the accommodation is on top of a hill, so it's quiet with lots of wildlife around and provides great ocean and mountain views from the cabin. Because it's on a hill, you automatically get some decent excersise after having dinner or drinks in town. I felt quite fit after a few days. You take drinks from the fridge based on trust and the location near Windwardside is very convenient. The owner checks after booking that you know what kind of accommodation you have booked, because it's not the right fit for people who want luxury. The shower was surprisingly good though, and it's the back to basic hostel like atmosphere and the setting of the place that also make it good. The mosquito net didn't fully close, there was still a gap through which a moth managed to get inside the net, causing mayhem. Which was kind of hilarious, but not good for a good night of rest. The fan is very loud, so we decided to turn it off. In March this was still manageable, but I can imagine in summer it might be too hot then. The toilet was cracked, so the bathroom smelled like urine. It was quite a challenge to make number two go down the toilet, because the gap wouldn't fully open when pressing the lever.
- Marika (5/5): As if we were glamping ish. - The view-close to mount scenery and shops/restaurants. Outdated, pool water was murky, bed uncomfortable, flat pillow, stinky bathroom (composting toilet). Lots of stairs.
We zaten in cabin Schildpad. Wat een geweldig uitzicht! Echt adembenemend mooi.

- Richard (10/5): Hosts/staff were amazingly hospitable, food great, excellent location. I’d definitely come back here. - El Momo is located in a beautiful (and yes, steep) spot. The views from every part of the property are stunning. My cabin was not as small as I expected, based on other reviews. And breakfast was excellent. I appreciated some of the nice touches - honesty bar, books and raincoats available etc. There’s nothing I did not like, but potential visitors should know it is on the rustic side, albeit with all the conveniences.
- Donald (8/5): Cottage we had was good, view was great, but think about climbing so many stairs! - Pool area very nice. View from our room was great. about 4 flights of stairs to front desk/pool and then we had the highest room so another 4 flights more. Lots of climbing and a little worrisome when the stairs are wet. We were warned, by the way, in other reviews so it was on us to not realize this. Bathroom was very basic.
- Jay (2/5): Was there for one night and if you are in Saba I do not recommend at all. - The breakfast portions were tiny and far too expensive for what you get. There are many steps to the location and if you have heavy luggage it is a nightmare. Place is okay if you are a backpacker and enjoy eco friendly places. Travel light and bring your own food and alot of bug spray.

- Earnie (10/5): Bijzondere plek!
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Arden (9/5): Peaceful views and a well deserved great review. - Beautiful views for sunset, delicious breakfast, pool was so refreshing after a long day of hiking/diving. Walkable to Windwardside 5-10mins.
- Josef (9/5): - Terrasse, Blick und Pool
- Cara (7/5): Peace and quiet high up with a stunning view -
- Sandra (7/5): Prachtige buitenplek met uitzicht! - De ligging is fantastisch. Fijn om buiten te leven. Leuk dat er veel kolibries zijn. Zwembad is schoon en prettig. Trustbar is fijn en erg vriendelijk. Er is veel achterstallig onderhoud. Dat is jammer. Erg gehorig (‘s avonds soms geschreeuw).
- Guest (8/5): Uitstekend - Geen ontbijt, maar lokatie was top Alles was goed
- Dibon (8/5): -

- Carribean Traveler (8/5): Top verblijf - Het uitzicht Niets
- Stasia (10/5): Perfecte locatie - Zeer vriendelijk personeel.
- Hans (8/5): -

- Danny Woudenberg (8/5): Fantastisch & Back to Basic. Het verblijf bij El Momo is even back to basic.
- Georgina (10/5): - Was exactly as described, remote location with lots of stairs - well worth the walk, scenery was beautiful.
- Curtis (8/5): Very good -
- Maxine (8/5): Incredible view! Lots of steps. Great staff! Environmentally conscious. - The location was great for us but some people may find hiking uphill to get to your lodging and then climb many steps to get to your room a challenge. Taxis are good about driving you to the base of the steps.
The view was spectacular!!! Make sure you close the lid of the toilet and close the bathroom door, othwise you may notice an odor.
- Andreas (9/5): Superb -
- Shadino (7/5): Good -
- James (7/5): Can really use a makeover - The pool
Was an absolute delight It is really showing its age. Faded and broken fixtures, lots of wear, from glassware to towels.
As quiet as you think the remote location will be, forget about it. Dogs bark almost incessantly and the favorite tool among locals is the gas powered weed whacker.
- Dana (10/5): - Loved my stay at El Momo! It's rustic and a climb up the 60 steps, but the views are amazing, Andries was helpful and welcoming, and it's SO peaceful. Definitely not a chain hotel, but if you're looking for a quiet, quaint cottage and don't mind a frog or gecko passing through - it's wonderful! The Sunshine cottage has a shower overlooking the ocean and was perfect!
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional - Great facilities, rustic bungalows. Excellent view. Best value on this expensive island.
- Rene (5/5): Passable -
- Brandon (10/5): Is this the best place I've ever stayed (especially for the money)? I believe so. - This is possibly the coolest place I've ever stayed. A collection of cottages up at the top of a hill a short walk from town with amazing sunset views overlooking the island and sea. Not to mention a pool, great and affordable breakfast, and very friendly and helpful hosts (who provided a ride to the ferry dock when my taxi didn't show). It felt like a dream, I wish I had stayed there longer... definitely the highlight of my trip to the Caribbean. A perfect base for hiking the island; I got everywhere on foot over 3 days and ended the day with a dip in this magical pool with a view of Mount Scenery. It was perfect for me. The cottages are simple and rustic, and the bathroom is outdoors... maybe my mom wouldn't have liked it but I have no complaints.
- Alexandra (5/5): Passable -
- Mad (10/5): - The hosts were wonderful. Very knowledgable about the island and very willing ot help and answer any questions. The accommodations were perfect. That being said, if you didn't read, THIS IS ECO TOURISM. Knowing that, I was expecting a little less, but this place was fantastic!
- Verified traveler (6/5): DOG. BARKING. ALL. DAY. - I rely heavily on reviews to decide where I want to stay and this review will reflect the pros and cons.
Scenery is beautiful, the pool is amazing, the hosts are amazing, the grounds are amazing.
Excellent location, beautiful view, accommodations are exceptionally clean and exactly what they claim to be, which is very minimalist.
If you're going to be hiking or scuba diving during the day or doing something during the day, this is a great spot. If you plan on staying there and lounging by the pool and reading a book there is a neighbor dog that barks ALL DAY LONG. Not occasionally, it barks constantly from 6:30am to 8:00pm, NONSTOP!
We booked for 7 days and relocated after 3 days. The dog barking was more than we could take. We wanted peace, quiet, and Silence, as the sign says. There was no silence.
If a barking dog doesn't bother you then this is absolutely the place for you. We loved every aspect except the barking.
- Otto (9/5): Outstanding place with a view - Outstanding place in all aspects. Got the highest possible chalet with the view. Couple more steps (actually a few more couples) to reach it gave us perfect view (and a bit stronger legs). Friendly personal and Saba all around. Suggest definitely. If you do not like steps - do not go .. but then perhaps ... re think your visit to Saba at all :)
- Claudia (10/5): Exceptional - El Momo is a great little place with an incredible view and very friendly hosts. It’s clean, quiet and has good internet. Loved staying there and hope to be back one day.
- Peter (10/5): - Great place to relax and chill - please remember and note the description! - ratings are relative and subjective!! - if you rate it compared to a 5-star luxury hotel in the US - rating should be one star
- Gisele (6/5): Pleasant - Great views, lovely spot surrounded by nature. Basic accommodation but cozy and quaint. Nice pool. Place is somewhat neglected, in need of maintenance and TLC.
Constant barking dogs in neighbourhood.
Location is not close to centre of town (restaurants, pubs, bank, shops, etc). Must walk a long way up/down hill in addition to 60-100 stairs to get to cottage.
Not great value for money.
- Christian (10/5): Amazing, surely the top room is the best place to stay in Saba! - Amazing location, beautiful views, pool very clean and refreshing - great after a long walk. We stayed in the top room (which I’d highly recommend if you’re okay with steps), but: the compost toilet was stinky. This is the price you pay as I assume they can’t get proper plumbing that high.
- Caines (8/5): Very good -
- Rosen (10/5): Exceptional -
- M (10/5): Highly recommend!!! - - so funny and welcoming (the thing that I liked the most!!)
- the view is extraordinary
- place respectful from the environment Nothing, they were perfect!
- Ludmilla (10/5): My stay in Saba was peaceful and scenic, with breathtaking views and unique charm - I really loved the stunning view and the charm of the small cottages, which offer a unique sense of privacy. It’s refreshing not to feel like we’re all in a crowded, standardized setup—such individuality is so important during a vacation. The peaceful silence was incredibly soothing and relaxing. I enjoyed my stay, but I appreciated less the fact that there was no option for dinner available on-site. We were advised not to rent a car, which was manageable during the day for hikes and some activities as they were accessible without a vehicle. However, unfortunately, without a car, we couldn’t explore everything, such as visiting places like Bottom or the harbor, which are not within walking distance from Momo's Cottage.
After a long day of hiking, returning to shower and realizing there’s no dinner available meant we had to go out again. This was particularly challenging due to the steep hill we had to climb at night, which isn’t ideal after a meal. If we were to visit again, we would definitely rent a car, though unfortunately, none were available during the weekend of our stay.
- Noelia (8/5): It was a lovely stay - The views are amazing. The staff was very helpful and nice. the location is nice, but not great if you carry suitcases as there are a lot of stairs.
- Hugh (10/5): A tranquil retreat on Saba - The owners were great people, very funny and kind. The cabin was nice and the pool and views were lovely It is up some steps as mentioned by others – no big deal if you are even mildly in shape (if not, you will be by the end of your stay)
- Ben (8/5): A great option if seeking relaxation or a base for hiking - Friendly and attentive owners. Great views.
- Bruno (7/5): Good - The view is breathtaking and the room is big and comfortable. There's a wonderful balcony (at least in my room), and the pool view is almost the same. The pictures are accurate, and the hotel is in a quiet location. The bathroom is outside but that didn't make any difference to me, even in the night. There was a completely equipped kitchen in the room I was.
stay here if you love hiking and don't mind the stairs. if you have any accessibility issues, don't. you need to climb up stairs, which are about 5 floors high, through a side staircase to get to the hotel. there's no help with your luggage when you arrive or leave. every time you go out you think twice because of the stairs, and the walk into town is a stretch because Saba is so hilly.
the bed could use new mattresses.
- Reynold (5/5): Passable - The staff and breakfast were excellent Wanting to urinate at 3:00am and have to go outside.
- PATRICK (10/5): Fun and Eco Friendly - I had a wonderful visit at El Momo. I was in Saba for hiking and the cottages were nestled into the woods, giving the perfect setting for enjoying the natural surroundings. The view from the cottages was amazing, the pool was a perfect spot to relax after a day out. The staff was helpful and friendly.
- Alyssa (10/5): - Staff was great and super friendly
- Honkan (8/5): An idealistic romantic getaway - Picturesque and quaint. The view is breathtaking.
The quiet from nature during the day was numbing, but during the night, the jungle came alive.
You come close to nature and a lot of privacy, even from the other guests. Because of the simplicity and being right in the arms of Mother Nature, it is difficult to have the room clean.
What bothered us the most was the lack of draft in our room, and that was even though we had the windows open 24H a day.
Beware that there are stairs from the street up to the reception and rooms, 69 steps to the reception a 90 to the Sunshine Room.
- Alessandro (2/5): Terrible hotel on a beautiful island - After a long climb, the first thing you see of the hotel is a squalid open space that looks like a construction site. My wooden cabin was very sad and had dirty walls. Even though it was August, it was as if the hotel was undergoing renovation. Saba is really beautiful and almost all the buildings on the island are nice and well-kept, so the difference with El Momo Cottages is even more striking. In conclusion, I left after the first night of stay. Without a car, it is quite a challenge to walk to the town center.
- Melissa (10/5): A wonderful tropical retreat - I wouldn't stay anywhere else - I loved this location and regret not staying for much longer. Full disclosure: there are 69 steps up to the property, which you can't even spot from the road. But that is the whole charm of the place. Standing outside the cottage, all you can see is foliage and flowers. It's easy to think you're in the middle of a tropical wilderness. You can sleep with the windows open and the room is cool and calm. Breakfast was not included, but was affordable, filling, and healthy. The town is a steep 5-minute walk away (and a quick taxi back). This was a highlight of my visit to Saba, and I enjoyed getting to know Andries who takes care of the property and all its matters from sunrise to sunset. Bring a good book, and a swimsuit, and prepare for a really wonderful stay. There wasn't anything I didn't like. This location and style perfectly suited my preferences and I wouldn't even consider staying elsewhere if I get the opportunity to visit again someday. Note the disclosure, though. This place is not for anyone with mobility issues. Don't bring a bunch of luggage.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fulchand (1/5): Bad -
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- Orlando (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanna (10/5): Everything was perfect :) -
- Peter (5/5): Too many steps, too basic, but a lovely pool and magnificent views on stunning Saba. - We enjoyed the small pool to cool down after our long hikes. Meeting our fellow travellers was delightful. Breakfast was good and served with a smile. We were disappointed with our room. It felt more like a backpacker's cabin than a cottage. Very little privacy on our terrace or when walking to our bathroom.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raymond John Colello (8/5): - We had a great weekend in Saba. The owners were very nice and welcoming and the cottages were comfortable. Near lovely restaurants and shops, and close to the trails. Breakfast was great and pool refreshing. Only downside was the noise at night from neighborhood dogs barking and early roosters. We did not sleep well.
- Hege (7/5): Good -
- Melissa (8/5): Peaceful - I liked the cottage quite a lot and once you were there you can't help but feel more relax in this environment. even though I went for work I left feeling well rested. The tip that restaurants and other places are a 5 min walk away from el Momo could be elaborated that it is a 5 min walk up and down the hill towards windwardside which might take a little more than 5 minutes :-)
- Lisa (10/5): Amazing place to stay - Great views; wonderful, peaceful and quiet place to relax; breakfast was good; cute cat to cuddle; great host; very safe place; privacy in the cottages Be prepared to walk a lot of steps and uphill and downhill (that’s Saba ;))
- Dragan (9/5): Superb -
- Johannes (7/5): lovely stay at El Momo Cottages -
- David (6/5): beautiful location wonderful hosts ,too noisy - great location we were in the uppermost cottage very private, bed very comfortable ,,view amazing one neighbor very loud dogs and music, elmomo is trying very hard to fix this but is meeting resistance, our only complaint was the noise until this is taken care of i would not go back, sorry andres
- Evan (10/5): - We loved this place, even if part of the appeal was in knowing that other people would be too spoiled or uptight to deal with the long stairs, the uphill walk home from the restaurants, the composting toilet, the occasional visit from the cat, etc. The proprietors are very sincere, personable and helpful and have a great sense of humor. Prices are better than fair. The pool is a great asset and the breakfasts are solid. If you think of the rooms as forest cabins instead of a "hotel," it feels glamorous. We heartily recommend this place.
