• lokanata (4/5): Disappointing stay - I stayed here last week and left with disappointment. I arrived at the hotel at 2.30AM due to the rescheduling of my flight. I was assisted by a cold, non communicative staff. He did his job efficiently though, but no more than that. No explanation of anything, no recognition of my Platinum status, no Platinum member perks and upgrade, not even mentioning the place and time of breakfast. I did not bother to ask since I arrived exhausted. I was allocated a room in the 12th floor. The same floor as the Executive Lounge, which the staff did not mention of course. The carpet from the elevator to the room had uneven surface, I never had this before. The room smelt bad, old and stinky. The bed was fairly good but the linen felt not fresh. The towel smelt weird too. The breakfast was pretty varied with good selection of Indonesian and Western selections. I came across an annoyed guest because there were delays in replenishing the food. During breakfast, at 09.34AM I received a notification that my booking was cancelled because the system checked me in the day after even though I have fully paid for the stay during the check in process. I brought this to the attention of the available reception staff. This issue was fixed after I followed it up to the property. Overall, a disappointing stay.

Stepping through the lobby. I was immediately struck by the beautiful and friendly reception team. I remember she has dimple and she really humble.. ms. Raka i guess.. the staff throughout the hotel were very professional, friendly and helpful.especially her.. they always greeting and smiling to us Light, airy and very spacious, very welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast was amazing. Location of the hotel is great. The room was very spacious and well equipped with all essentials and fantastic view. I have no hestitationin recommending this hotel to tbe tourists who want to go to Makassar. Will be back to this place soon

Housekeeping team intervened but the smell of urine remained after cleaning. No hot water: just lukewarm. Wifi not fast. On the credit card, they charged me 265.08 euros for the stay, and then, two days later, they stole 345.60 euros. We have repeatedly contacted the Novotel in Makassar, which keeps on ignoring us. We have also repeatedly written to the Customer Service and the Help Centre in booking.com, sending the requested documents, and we also were completely ignored. DO NOT GO IN THIS HOTEL, THEY STEAL MONEY FROM YOUR CREDIT CARD AND THEN IGNORE YOU!!!

When we were arrive at our home then he realized he missing 6 packs of cigarettes which are we put each cartoon of cigarettes in 2 different bags. He/she took 3 packs from each cartoon and it shows that the hotel's cleaner open our bags with intention. Luckily we didn't leave any valuable things inside the room. For those who want to stay here Pls make sure u use a pad lock to lock your bag before u leave the room.

Nice room, fancy bathroom, when we visited the morning breakfast restaurant, most of the fodd was already gone. Later they provided new supply, but we were already on our way (to the airport). I think the food should be freely available during the whole breakfast period. We also was for a massage. Noting the opening hours of the wellness section (from 10am) we asked at the reception if it was possible to have massag earlier (we asked at about 8am) and was told to come back by 9am, when they told it was not possible. A bit befor 10 am we tried again for a half an hour massage (which was on their price/offer list) - as we had no more time - but were told that they only had hour long massages. Most of the staff did not speak English.

• Cyrille (8/5): Very good - First of all, my overall impression is pretty good and I will probably come back. The location is very central, the staff was really nice and polite, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good and there was a lot of choice (Indonesian, continental, etc.). Anecdotally, there were four different jamus (a traditional Indonesian drink that you should try). There was no plastic bottle in the bedroom but a refillable glass bottle and a water dispenser at every floor. Much better for the thirsty ones and greener. Check-in took a very long time because there was only one employee when I arrived around 7pm and a queue of customers. At the reception, the employee also told me that there were only smoking rooms left and when I refused categorically, he/she immediately gave me a non-smoking room... There were a few issues in the room which were fixed later by the staff: the safe was not reset so couldn't be used, the bed lights were not working, and my food order never reached my room (I had it at the restaurant eventually). Eventually, these little things do not change my good overall impression but they could be easily improved.

• Maria Victoria (10/5): Pleasant stay in Makassar - I stayed at Novotel Makassar Grand Shayla for 10 days. The staff were very accommodating and willing to help with my concerns. The hotel is also located close to restaurants and convenience stores. Breakfast was also very good but they could probably do with a little more variety as the same food was served everyday.

Loose sockets, torn pillowcase and also a loose door handle(bathroom door). The service was also bad, when I checked in, only one person in the front desk and I had to call her to get her to notice me. Everything that is supposed to be a standard in a hotel, I had to personally call the housekeeping for toothbrush set and extra slippers. The food also needs a lot of improvement in taste. The location is okay.
• Corey (6/5): Newish hotel with wifi problem - Best thing about this hotel is that it's fairly new. Service is well-intended, but can come up short. Worst is wifi connection. Logging in to devices seem so easy, but in reality, a hassle. Front Desk often mix up last name and first name on the registration, making wifi login confusing. After a few stays here, I still could not figure out their wifi login system. Even after finally connected, speed is slow.
• Fred (6/5): Lapses - Overall the room is comfortable. Had a good night sleep. Wonderful bed but the pillow sheets had some stains. No shampoo. Found an unclip safety pin on the floor and and a hair clip. Did they vacuum the floor ?
• Marc (10/5): Nice hotel and facilities - Nice hotel and facilities. Only thing is that rooms are average sizes.
• Mark (4/5): - Shower not hot enough. House keeping knock on doors between 8:30 and 9 wanting to clean rooms.
