Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- GLENN (10/5): - Great breakfast & dinner. Friendly staff.
- Bruce (4/5): Nice Hotel, but - This was to be a bit of a splurge but the room we had literally had no windows to the outside (only one window that looked onto a brick wall a few inches outside. We complained and they did change the room which was good and the room was a marked improvement. As he had arrived late (730pm) and the hotel is 15min taxi to restaurants etc, we asked for dinner. But as we hadn’t booked dinner they refused. Again we complained and again the responded and fixed us a simple noodle meal which was fine. With the mess up on the room would have been nice if they just agreed to provide us dinner, but that didn’t happen. On the last night (stayed 3) we had to be moved to another room as one we were moved to was apparently booked. Room was fine but all just a hassle. The staff were courteous, but the whole experience was not what we had hoped nor paid for
- Man Ching Charles (10/5): - Best hotel I’ve ever stayed... every single detail is the best. Highly recommended
- Verified traveler (10/5): a one-in-a-million traditional inn. - beautiful ryokan in the hills overlooking kanazawa. only stayed the night and wished i could have stayed a month. room was perfection, with splendid views, a vast bath, and a long wall covered with a panelled brush-painting of bamboo. for many the stunning dining room will be the central attraction as the chef creates multi-course dinners with lapidary presentation, including glass jars of smoked beef and tongue and shrimp hidden under a pile of autumn leaves and a huge persimmon infused with with distilled liquid for dessert. the staff were welcoming and thoughtful. a one-in-a-million traditional inn.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Over priced !!!
Staff does not speak English!
Far from town...
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very disappointed, a rip off - This hotel is marketed as 4,5 stars but is really 1 or 2. The staff is primarily interested in making money out of you rather than to truly serve. We were greeted by telling us of an extra charge for arriving earlier. The location is inconvenient, the hotel does not have the resources to proper serve you. The colored China they used may contain lead and the serving portions for coffee or milk are 2 or 3 ounces. The price is twice of what it should be. Do not be mislead, this accommodation is not accepatable for the high price they charge.. there is no menu to chose from so one has to eat whatever it is served. No lunch is provided which is unusual for a ryokan. On the last day at breakfast we were inrterupted twice to ask the time we were living and if we had reserved a taxi. The classic room we had has no proper window views so you are almost in a cave with a few Japanese accents. Sorry to say but we were highly disappointed. We did not mind paying the previous hotel a lot more for a truly quality stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel but pricey - Japanese breakfast was exiqusite but maybe not for everyone. Location is a bit far from town center but ok if you like walking. Rooms are nice but pricey for what it includes. Check in process could be better. Overall a unique hotel.
- Hui chen (8/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Ross (6/5): Ryokusone Ryokan In Kanazawa - Our stay at Ryokusone was peaceful and relaxing. Upon our arrival we were met by a gracious hostess who escorted us to our room. Our Japanese style room was clean and comfortable but a bit small in comparison to other similar type rooms that we stayed at. We also discovered that only breakfast was included in our accommodation which surprised us since other ryokans that we have stayed at provided both breakfast and dinner for equal or lesser cost. The ryokan's front desk is often not staffed so we periodically had to call someone in the kitchen to get front desk assistance. The breakfast at Ryokusone was Japanese kaiseki style food, delicious but a bit simple in the type of dishes presented. Ryokusone is located on a hillside in a residential area with a beautiful mountain view of Kanazawa. Since Ryokusone is a small ryokan the taxi drivers may not know where it is located so have the address available when using a taxi. We feel the cost to stay at Ryokusone is a bit expensive in comparison to other ryokans when room size, amenities and food are considered.
- Wendy (10/5): Gem of Kanazawa - Delightful Ryokan, with wonderful views and quiet peaceful hillside location still easy 15-20 minutes walking through interesting neighborhood streets to the major sights of Kenrokuen garden and Kanazawa castle park. A lovely retreat from the touristy bustling city on the other side of the park. Our Kaiseki dinner was a wonderful surprise, it was better than at the Relais & Chateau ryokan we stayed near Matsumoto, as well as 2 Michelin star in Tokyo. Breakfast was a treat too! Highly recommend this hotel.
- Jeanne (10/5): Don't miss this fabulous ryokan! - Incredible accommodations in an incredible city. This ryokan was by far the nicest place we stayed in Japan. It is clean, new, and has fabulous and elegant decor. The breakfasts are beautifully presented and delicious, and the view of the city was lovely as well. But the best aspect was the service. The staff went above and beyond to help us find experiences tailored to our interests. We so appreciated their willingness to make our stay special. It is a few minutes out of the city, but you will soon discover that the city itself is not large and is easily walkable. I would recommend you take a taxi to and from the ryokan when you arrive/leave with your bags but otherwise just walk and catch the Kanazawa Loop Bus wherever you need to go.
- cj (10/5): an oasis above the city of Kanazawa - A short taxi ride takes you from the bustle of Kanazawa to Ryokusone, located up a hill above the city, next to a temple. The property is meticulously re-constructed in traditional style with all conveniences. The chef is a creative master of exquisite modern Kaiseki. The three days we spent at Ryokusone in Kanazawa were overall the best experience of our 3-week trip to Japan, and one of the most memorable in our five trips to Japan.
- Michelle (10/5): Perfect Zen Gem in Kanazawa - Ryokusone is a special place ... truly a gem in the crown of Kanazawa, a lovely town with gorgeous gardens and fascinating historic districts. But what made our time there unforgettable was our stay at this tiny, traditional inn perched a five minute taxi ride above the town. The proprietor and his lovely staff have put tremendous time and attention into creating the perfect Japanese experience. We had two incredible authentic Japanese breakfasts - each truly a work of art, plus a memorable and delicious dinner. They were incredibly accommodating in meeting our dietary restrictions and as first-time visitors the English-speaking owner was so helpful in arranging transportation and offering advice -- even coordinating the transfer our heavy bags onward to Kyoto. The hotel has been recently renovated and is stunning in it's simplicity -- rooms were simply decorated, in traditional ryokan style, the bedding plush and the bath luxurious, with a cedar tub and Aesop bath amenities and plenty of soft white towels. As seasoned travelers, we are very particular about our accommodations -- we stayed at the magnificent Aman in Tokyo -- and while different, this simple yet luxurious stay was in its own way its equal. We will never forgot our time at Ryokusone, and were so glad that we opted to stay there rather than an impersonal city center chain hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): excellent - Everything is lovely about this hotel. Staff work very hard to please clients. Their English is limited due to remote location. The tranquility, the garden and the quiet relaxing room with free tea and coffee after hot spring is very inviting.
