Guest Reviews
- Christian (2/5): I was duped by the pictures. I left after 15 minutes. - Not much The hotel gives an impression that the suite is fantastic. My suite had no windows, it smelled, the bathroom was filthy and there where bugs. The location is next door to several erotic massage places. The staff were not very polite and professional. I felt like I was a nuisance
If you look up the hotel on google maps the picture of where it is located, you get the wrong impression the location.
Too bad I had payed for the whole stay, with no refund possibility.
- Kittisak (9/5): -
- Monica Falk (5/5): Standard not matching the price. - Helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Construction every day, even weekends between 8 am until 9-10pm. The hotel did not inform about the construction.
The construction site with the workers are just outside of the room windows so I had to close the curtains for privacy.
There's a lot of lady bars around. No one bothered me but I don't want to live in an area like that.
The taxis couldn't find the hotel so I had to walk out to meet the taxi.
The room interior was ok. At some point it has been very modern but now most things was broken.
The standard does not match the price.
- Phillip (10/5): - Very close to everything. Very hard for people to find it
- Phillip (10/5): -
- nicklas (6/5): -
- crisymary24 (4/5): I would not book there again - The room did not have a window and it had a moldy smell.
There was noise from the near building that was in construction.
- Robin (10/5): -
- Darryl (9/5): Brilliant, relaxed setting where the staff treat you with kindness. - Excellent buffet breakfast with both western and Thai food! Swimming pool and area around it makes you feel like you are ina tropical relaxed, paradise, and yet you are only 1km from the loudest, craziest road in Bangkok! I also enjoyed that the small but sufficient gym was open 24 hours a day. It was also great that they had free parking for my friend when he drove up to visit me.
- Paul (1/5): If you go to this hotel be prepared to be woken up around 7.30am each weekday because of the building site next door. - The bed The room was very nice
- William (6/5): Ok for the location, but room needs revamping. - The location was very close to the park and major shopping centres. The location was on quite a seedy street and the room wasn’t cleaned during my stay and had an odd smell on my arrival. The room was quite worn down and the hot water didn’t go on. I found the staff not too helpful, I was promised a clean. But that didn’t happen.
- William (7/5): Good location, fine for a few days. - The room was large and in a good location. It was next door to some brothels and the room smelt funny when I arrived. The shower was also only cold water. The room seemed quite tired.
- Bervin (7/5): -
- NEZHA (6/5): -
- Thomas M. (8/5): - The room is good size and nice.
Not 2025 standard, but still clean and nice.
Spacious room and bathroom The construction next door is quite noisy, unfortunately for Syama.
- Jeff (8/5): - Great location, nice large room. Building work immediately outside, so noisy from early morning.
- Anhar (10/5): -
- Shakir (9/5): -
- mick (8/5): - Good size rooms.
Unfortunately there was maintenance work being carried out during the stay which could be heard from the 5th floor
- Gregory (8/5): A good value clean hotel near to shopping and transport - Good sized and clean rooms A little hidden location
- Kazunori (8/5): -
- Karlsson (10/5): -
- Shawn (8/5): Very good -
- Ashley (7/5): Good - Room size Had small water leak in shower . But staff changed room straight away . Very helpful staff
- Thierry (6/5): - Alles eigentlich OK, aber Preis/Leistung stimmt nicht.
- Patrick (7/5): Good -
- jonathan (8/5): - Nice small hotel located within quick walks to shopping, dining and bars. Clean, but showing a little age. The worst thing is the rooms have unfortunately laid out bathroom designs. No privacy when doing your business in the w/c. The bathing area has a tub and shower behind a privacy door. Very strange design.
- Gurmail singh (4/5): - No parking,no staff communication about early check in. No help from staff at all during check in and check out.
Very poor staff
- Bryan (8/5): Very good -
- James (6/5): - It’s not bad for the price lots of construction so if you’re considering getting sleep past 9 am in the morning you might as well forget it because there’s jackhammers going all day. Smells a bit mouldy and musty in the main lobby and in one of the rooms we stayed in. Overall not bad for the price but kind of a two or three star although the staff is really nice..
- Glen (5/5): Good for the price. - Room layout was good. The fruit flies in the room.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Ali (6/5): Pleasant -
- Nabil (8/5): Very good -
- Charles (9/5): Hotel confortable - The large rooms The lack of windows
- Thierry (8/5): Very good - Location No Internet 2 mornings out of 3. We are in the middle of Bangkok guys! That should be sorted in now time!
- Seido (10/5): - The most convenient hotel to stay.very clean also.
It is walking distance right in between Terminal 21 and EmSphere. 2nd time in Bangkok and I've stayed here both times.
- Travel-exotic-PB (6/5): Affordable Option Great Location. - I stayed in the Syama Hotel for a few nights in January 2024. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and happily return.
The big appeal for me is the great location of this little hotel. It’s a fantastic option for anyone wanting to be in the busy Sukhumvit area. Often it can become too much staying in this popular tourist area given the traffic, night life, pollution and hectic atmosphere. But the Syama Hotel is set back on a tiny soi off main Sukhumvit Road and connecting with Soi 20. The soi does have a few little bars but they are not loud and ever busy and it gives the soi some character. The great advantage is you are so close to numerous cafes and restaurants and so the fact the hotel itself does not have a restaurant is not really a problem. So Sukhumvit Soi 20 which is 30 seconds walk has at least three outdoor restaurants offering the best Thai food at very affordable prices. These soon became my breakfast and dinner options.
This area certainly has wonderful night life and great transport links and so the location of the hotel is wonderful. You are a short walk from the huge Asoke junction which has both the BTS sky train and the underground MRT train line both allowing you instant access to the whole city. In addition, there’s the massive shopping centre Terminal 21 at Asoke which is a fabulous option for both dining and shopping. The hotel is close to the nigh time entertainment areas should that be your thing too. So, the hotel benefits from being extremely well located.
The room has all one would expect from a modern hotel and I was more than happy with the facilities. Room safe, ironing board, hair dryer, TV and awesome bathroom were all there giving me the much-needed wonderful luxury hotel escape feeling that I needed after a hectic day wandering the streets of Bangkok. I had ample cupboard space and a wonderful area to relax in with sofa and stylish glass table. The stylishly designed interior of my room was spectacular. A warning the water temperature can be incredibly hot which is great as long you as you know that and are prepared. Don’t scald yourself. I had ‘His & Her ‘sinks and felt quite spoilt in my huge bathroom. I did at times need to call the receptionist up to my room to help me with the lighting. I really did struggle to turn off lights and then choose specific lights to turn on and help with the TV. There was a feeling that the lighting and electric were over complicated. Other guests may not find this so.
Now one item to consider it the hotel does have some rooms that have no view at all. Essentially rooms with no windows. For some this is unacceptable, and it can feel perhaps claustrophobic being in a room with no window. I actually had two nights in one such a windowless room and then switched to a room with windows and so at least some view. Do not expect sweeping breath-taking city skyline views as the hotel is not too tall and has large building adjacent. But at least you want to gauge the weather and allow natural light in.
The hotel has a tiny roof top pool which is not a pool you would do lengths in as such, but it makes a superb plunge pool in which to cool off in after a hectic hot day roaming the amazing city of Bangkok. Be mindful the sun soon goes behind a large office building adjacent and so if sunbathing is your thing you need to time it carefully. Otherwise, you will soon be in shadow. Some seating there and a little space to spread out and relax in.
The hotel doesn’t have that huge reception and busy feel about it. There was just one male staff member there and it felt more like a quiet hostel then a busy city hotel. If you crave that lobby excitement and people watching element of a hotel then this won’t work for you. Without the café or restaurant and few staff it felt very peaceful and quiet. But if you crave huge happening city hotels then this is all too small and won’t satisfy. Although the receptionist was helpful, I felt an injection of improved friendliness and welcome energy would really help.
It’s a decent little hotel in a great part of town and worth a visit for anyone not wanting to spend too much. I would happily recommend and return.
- Wayne (10/5): - Clean modern has a small gym and pool
- Frank (8/5): - Clean Quite Staff need more communication skills.
- malis (2/5): Bad experience - It is a horrible place. I lasted only 20 minutes
I don’t think places like hotels.com should advertise places like this. Paid for 2 nights
Stayed less than 20 minutes could not go out fast enough. For future travelers note
There is no windows. There is no showers. Everywhere a sign that says must keep quiet after 9 pm. For god sake this is Bangkok we are talking about. For a place that offers nothing. They were very strict on noise levels. Zero chance of recommendation
Total waste of 2 nights money.
Note to fellow travelers. It’s is off the side street. Surrounded by bars and brothels and they say no noise sound funny to me
- James alex (8/5): - The girl who cleaned the room for me qas wondeful. Always happy and smiling with positve energy. Rememember to always tip for good service.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - A modern tasteful design, well appointed. Comfortable bed Floor needed a scented disinfectant spray.
Had an unpleasant odour.
Recommend after each sweeping apply a de-odouring spray.
- Jeremy (8/5): - Close to many restaurants and massage
- Steven (10/5): - Nice room very spacious
- Gerald (8/5): Very good -
- Saleh (8/5): Very good - The place is comfortable and the staff are respectful No smoking
- Alexey (10/5): Exceptional -
- W.lamont (7/5): Good - Good central location. Good bars, restaurants, cafes nearby, loved the bath/spa. The machine wouldn't accept my visa card as payment. I had to get cash from street ATM, which I hesitated to use but had to.
Staff English was not good, and communication was hard at best. The air-condition dripped on the couch after it was turned off. The place the kettle had no power outlet. Door was out of square. Made a loud noise on opening and closing
- Khalid (4/5): Disappointing -
- Michael (8/5): Nice hotel in a good location. - Very modern and clean. Didn't like not having a window.
- Racaza (8/5): Very good -
- Man (8/5): This property is at a convenient location. Despite the swimming pool and gym are tiny, the rooms are relatively big and - The room is spacious and with bath tub The light switches are hidden and no bed side switch. Occasional noise from the backyard at late night.
- Hugo (8/5): Very good - Awesome staff, very nice and helpful! The king size bed is extremely comfy and the room is big! The large bathroom is really nice to. AC works great, nice rainhead shower. Extra point for the TV with chromecast :) The pool is way smaller than it looks, I still went but you can't swim in it. Some small details also made no sense in my room for example: nowhere to put your shampoo/soap in the shower so you have to awkwardly put stuffs on the window, there is no electric socket next to the kettle so you have to take it in the bathroom or your night stand... Small details that could make it feeling more home.
- Dragalina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maurizio (8/5): Good location for a short stay. - Location and helpful staff at reception A bit dated (tired) and the pool / gym facilities at the top level were substandard with the air conditioning not working in the gym making the room unusable.
- Brian (4/5): Don't expect to have a luxury kind of hotel, the "Suite" name is misleading - The hotel is well situated geographically if you want to be next to BTS and take the public transport. It is also next to Terminal 21 which is a good mal to go eat. The hotel is situated in a dead end so there is no traffic that could make noise. The bed is confortable. The cleaning service is good. A/C make a lots of noise, wifi is often disconnecting, the personnel don't really speak english and they sleep in the lobby during the night. The swimming pool is very tiny, the gym room is very tiny, almost non existant. My room was smelt very bad I had to change room. There were also some noise next to my room the first 2 early morning where there were construction workers loading and unpacking stuff in a truck. The windows lock is very weak and could easily be broken so be careful of your stuff inside. In my next room I was next to the cleaning service room in the first floor and could hear everything and the room has no windows. This is also the only hotel in my trip of dozens of hotel that could not process my card online, that I have to send multiple messages to arrange to pay at the hotel. I also have to pay a caution (again only hotel that asked me that). The water of the bath is yellow so you don't really want to bath in that. I don't recommend this hotel for this price.
- Mel (6/5): SMART ON THE OUTSIDE BUT A SHAMBLES WITHIN. - Let's start with my overall impression of just the hotel.
The reception is very smart and modern, powerful air con, some comfy seats and a writing desk.
We were booked in quickly, left a 500THB deposit for the room card and went up in the glazed lift with views down the street to the 3rd floor and our room 303.
Location is at the end of a cul de sac, taxis struggle to find it.
There are a few "night business" premises but they are tame and don't bother passers by.
At the end on the junction with the main road above Buddy's Grill is a fantastic eatery called Breakfast Story. Review to follow.
The staff and service were excellent.
We didn't try the brekky nor the pool.
It's less than a 10 minute walk to Asok Train Station and all points beyond.
All in all it would be a great, reasonably priced place given the surface quality of the furnishings etc if the room electrics worked. I suspect each room would need a complete rewire to sort to out which is unlikely to happen. Upon getting to our room , as is usual, Wifey opened the door and proceeded to do the video walk around while I waited outside with the bags.
A minute after she went in she reappeared. She couldn't turn the lights on and as the "Premium Suite" doesn't have any windows it was dark in there.
Using a torch we searched around and then found a block of 3 switches fixed to the underside of the alcove where the kettle and tea gear stood. When these were flicked on the lights and electrics came on.
Remembering Maruf Hossain's review I opened the cupboard above to discover a spaghetti jumble of wires, open circuit boxes and chaos that revealed that the "Smart Room Controller" was useless and they had jerry rigged a workaround.
What happened to KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)?
The upshot was that the electrics worked but sometimes, if you switched the 3 switches off everything switched off.
At first it seemed that the central switch was the master switch, the left was the bedroom/lounge light switch and the right was the bathroom switch. But No!
Sometimes they were, sometimes they weren't. Eventually we left them all and when going to bed played Russian Roulette until we could sleep in the dark but the aircon stayed on.
In fact the aircon had a mind of it's own. It would sometimes beep in response to inputs from the remote control and sometimes actually do something in response like slow the fan down or change the temp setting but more often that not it did what it wanted.
Because of the electrical fritz the extractor in the toilet area didn't work so the shower room, that didn't have an extractor but did have a window that opened to a gap between the buildings, wouldn't dry out unless you left the window open, which at night, invited the mozzies in and as the shower room door and the sliding, main toilet area door didn't fill the doorways properly the mozzies had free reign.
- Marek (7/5): Great location, good value but requires some improvements - Friendly staff, great location, comfortable bed, bathroom with bath and shower and good WiFi. AC unit that requires cleaning, furniture look a bit run down and view at the back street.
- Linda (6/5): Ok for a short stay and close to BTS and metro - The bed was comfortable The jacuzzi looked great but it did not work. Bathroom needs renovation. Don’t order a taxi via the hotel, you will be charged a high amount of money.
- binyomin (10/5): - the room was great, great bed and bath tub, lots of space, no real windows in the room but idk if like that for all rooms, pool was very small but was able to swim a bit, gym has very minimal equipment and i couldn't get the air conditioning to work but i didn't bring up that issue to staff
- Gilles (4/5): Do no trust the fancy presentation - - size of the bed
- hot water - problem of maintenance for this hotel, that was probably really nice when it opened : booked a suite with fancy equipment left unfixed or uncared for (for instance : bathroom with tv but bathtub jets not functioning) ; same for the rooftop pool that was unusable because of the numerous leaves inside…
- no basic hotel requirements : tissue box, desk call number, map of the surroundings.
- absolutely young useless staff who seemed to be just present for the basic hotel interactions (they are probably very low-paid, hence the lack of dedication and motivation).
- smelly pillows
- Sricky (10/5): Exceptional -
- Loan (10/5): Exceptional - Close to everything , quiet , staffs are amazing Nothing
- Healy (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Benno (8/5): Very good -
- Jeff (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anaru (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sebastian (1/5): Bad - Didn’t have a room for me.
- Dhari (10/5): Exceptional - It’s perfect/ size - comfortable- staff 👍🏼 Location / no smoking room
- Verified traveler (8/5): Reasonable value for the price. Pics are accurate - Pros - Huge, clean, quiet room with a great bathtub and comfy bed. Friendly staff with speedy check in and out. One minute walk to the main road.
Cons - Several brothel type bars and massage shops right outside. This didn't bother me but probably not great for people with kids. Stairs to the rooftop pool were extremely steep and a bit rickety. There was no natural light in the room.
- Eugene (10/5): Spacious - It was a great hide away place. Close to the Main Street and walking distances from bars.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - nice room
- Cyril (9/5): Superb -
- Benny (8/5): Very good - I wish there was more like a Stall for the shower. There was no space to really shower, just a bath tub. Otherwise room was good. Also needed more towel hanger locations.
- George (8/5): - Wifi was not great! In and out for whole stay.
- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Evan (7/5): Good -
- Michelle (9/5): Awesome value, spacious, clean, would come back - Room (king suite) was very spacious, which was especially surprising given the densely populated area and relatively small hotel. Clean room. Pleasantly surprised by the touch screen central system to control lighting on/off and degree of brightness. Location is awesome! Just off the main Sukhumvit road, and walking distance from the really cool shopping mall, Terminal 21. There were some mosquitoes in the room, not sure if that's just common in the area. Touch screen lighting was awesome but a little bit complicated. Small issue but TV was oddly not centred at the foot of the bed. Was hard to find place to hang towels.
- Randall (10/5): Great hotel near the heart of Sukhumvit. - Great hotel. Spacious rooms with jacuzzi tub. Located near street food and restaurants. The hotel has a small pool on the upper floor. N/A
- Conor (7/5): Nice room in quite area, not far from soi cowboy - The room was massive, lovely bathroom and very clean The man at reception didn't seem to have any experience. Never gave my passport back and couldn't find my booking when I arrived. When booking, City views was I the title. There is no city views as every building around it is bigger.
- Randall (10/5): Great hidden gem of a hotel - The hotel is tucked away on a little side street off Soi 20. There is some great street food nearby as well as a 7-11 if you need to pick up any items. It is a 5 minute walk to Asok BTS which connects to the MRT. Terminal 21 is located here as well as the infamous Soi Cowboy. After hiking in Nepal the jacuzzi tub was a great way to relax. The room was spacious and comfortable. The remote control system that runs everything from the lights to the phone didn't work. They were not able to fix it so the staff moved me to another room.
- Moran (10/5): near the noise but quiet, no help at reception - Comfortable room, good location, average price The reception does not speak English and cannot help with anything
- Hukill (5/5): hit or miss, Ill just stay away from this hotel. - location Mother hen reception tries to control everything you do. A cash deposit was only asked for after you pay the non-refundable payment. it is also only asked for from certain customers not all. Incredibly slow check-in.
- Andy (7/5): Good -
- Matthew (2/5): - Booked 3 nights in a room with a “city view” and “blackout curtains” listed in the amenities. When I arrived, the room had no window. Hair was on the floor of the room, in the sink and shower. I asked to switch rooms and was told the “city view” rooms were sold out. I’m not sure how you allow someone to book a sold out room and say nothing when the person checks in. I was shown another room that was also dirty. Asked for my money back, and was assured that I would get a full refund. I was given a copy of the email from the manager to Expedia stating that I would get a full refund. Later when I contacted Expedia, I was told the manager of the hotel had not authorized a refund. Even though I sent a copy of the email I had been given from the manager, I had to contact Expedia 3 more times about this. Each time, it was escalated to another department, and I received the same generic reply saying “sorry” they weren’t able to process the refund. After the 4th time, Expedia was able to get the refund approved. This took 3 weeks. I wonder how many people would have just given up and lost the money? This is a bad review on Expedia too. I have booked faithfully for YEARS, but I am considering switching fully to Agoda. One last remark on the hotel: when I was sitting in the lobby waiting for the manager to contact me about my refund, I watched the front desk attendant give the same dirty windowless room to the next traveler who had just walked in…without cleaning it. Enough said.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Una (8/5): Very good -
- Eric (8/5): - It was quiet and good location.
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Haibao (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenneth (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, pleasant front desk. Nice room. Quiet but close to food and shopping Roof top pool was small
- Mac (9/5): Superb - great room , staff are kind just be careful about your preise , it's start to are expansive.
- BjL461 (6/5): cheap basic hotel located down a side alley in Soi 20 - Syama Sukhumvit 20 is a basic hotel located down a side alley so it can be easily missed and a little awkward to locate, however the staff there are friendly and the rooms are a reasonable size and clean.
Its located in Sukhumvit (Soi 20-) and the rooms are neutral decor with reasonable beds. The bathroom is old and dated and has a shower curtain there e is no shower screens.
The hotel is walking distance from BTS Asok station
Pros:
Reasonable size rooms
A couch located in the room
clean
beds are reasonably comfortable
close to BTS Asok station
Cons:
Location is a little awkward to find
Bathrooms are with poor lighting and no shower screens
Its a basic but reasonable hotel and not bad for a few nights stay.
- Keith (8/5): - Air conditioning very poor . Unable to adjust. Was too hot in room
- Wayne (10/5): Highly recommend - Overall very good. Great room, service and staff. Internet speed was ok but needs a little work.
- Wai Yi Susan (8/5): Good for couples - The hotel is very close to the pub even though it’s in a alley. Not recommended for family with little kids. For couples it’s fine. The staff there can speaks English with no problem. But the breakfast was just bland and you could get better food outside of the hotel... just skip it, the price with breakfast is not worth it.
My room has a good bathtub with jacuzzi function. The bathroom is clean. It could be nice with the Bluetooth function in the room works. Bed is comfortable and big. AC is strong and cool. About 6-7 mins walk to Asok station where you can do shoppings in Terminal 21.
- Andy (4/5): - Nothing likeable. Breakfast is not continental as claimed. Not even an egg is offered, only bread, drinks and room temperature yogurts are placed on the counter, no service at all. only one staff present. Room smells moldy, with mosquitoes too.
