The property itself is stunning — beautifully designed with a perfect blend of modern comfort and tropical charm. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully arranged with every little detail taken care of. The pool area was absolutely gorgeous, especially in the evening — it created such a relaxing, almost magical vibe. What truly made the experience unforgettable was the hospitality. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely caring, always going the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable. A special mention to the owner, Hans — he was incredibly welcoming and hands-on, ensuring everything ran perfectly. You can really feel the passion and care behind this place through him. Everything — from the ambiance to the service — felt well thought out. It’s the kind of place where time softens, where you breathe a little deeper, and where leaving feels just a little harder than expected. There’s truly nothing I didn’t like — I loved everything about this place, from the smallest details to the overall experience.

Vilma (8/5): - Breakfast was decent, but nothing to write home about. It’s definitely a good place to rest after a flight. The rooms were a decent size, and we really didn’t lack for anything. The ocean right next to the hotel isn't suitable for swimming because the shore is rocky. However, if you walk 200 meters to the side, you can swim. We booked a two-bedroom apartment with a sea view, but the view was very limited; when we looked out, the first thing we saw was a trash-strewn part of the courtyard, and the ocean was only visible through the trees and around the corner of the building. Furthermore, nowhere was it mentioned that one bedroom had absolutely no windows. We felt a bit cheated.

Ou il y à plein de règles dénué de sens. Signature quand vous allez à la piscine et bonnet de bain obligatoire et non fournis. Pas mettre le linge sur le balcon et j’en passe. Personnel de la piscine infecte ! Ma fille et mon mari faisait gentiment du tapis de course dans la salle de sport la personne les a sorti en étant menaçant ! Bref ce lieu ne reflète pas du tout le vrai Sri Lanka et la gentillesse des srilankais ( sauf le propriétaire de l’appartement qui etait adorable)!

Lucky was extremely helpful. The property was clean. In addition to that it opens up on beach And it’s more or less private beach. Great breakfast. Loved the food. However Limited options for lunch and dinner (until you pre-order) The location is remote. Is expensive to book Tuk Tuk for city and Negombo beach. Prefer this location if you want calm and peace. Absolutely not a place for party, night strolling etc.

Philippa (10/5): Relaxing and hospitable stay in a comfy hotel with the best staff. - We had an extended 2 week stay here due to a cancelled flight and couldn’t have asked to be stranded in a better place. The hotel was comfortable, good beds, clean, hot showers, lovely pool and decent sun loungers. The food was freshly cooked and tasty but the best thing about Ziegler Cottage was the staff. They were all a complete delight and made us feel so at home. Everyone of them was smiley, hardworking and so helpful. We can’t thank you enough for looking after us so well. Nothing really….. I suppose if you didn’t check out it’s location properly you may think it a bit of a way out of Negombo (20 mins in a tuktuk). And the beach was a little disappointing as it wasn’t safe to swim but I believe the rains in December had washed the sand away so this may have changed.

Arriving early in the morning we were able to get into our room and sleep before breakfast, a tasty selection. The staff are amazing, the garden is gorgeous, lots of shady areas for loungers (comfy-ish) and the pool is perfect and also with some shade. Very peaceful in the garden with the sound of the birds and the waves. We saw many birds flying around, it’s a birders paradise. Our room was comfy and enjoyed the sea and sunset views. Curry is made to order and very yummy, a shame Sri Lankan music isn’t played in the dinning area. Lovely walk along the beach. It’s 25 mins by tuc tuc to visit Negombo from here, worth a mornings visit. Thank you Ziegler for a lovely start. Didn’t like the strange jazz music in the dining area. Local music would be better.

Při objednávání pobytu , prohlédnutí fotografií a přečtení recenzí, nebylo z ničeho patrné, že se nedá v moři koupat . / až na místě nám byl sdělen zákaz koupání ohledně korálů /. Museli jsme jezdit asi 11 km. Hotel je vhodný využít po a nebo před odletem na 1 noc.

Joanna (8/5): Świetne zakończenie podróży - Hotel jest świetny na zakończenie lub rozpoczęcie podróży. Hotel ma świetną część rekreacyjną - basen w ogrodzie z leżakami, dostępne są też ręczniki basenowe. Hotel położony tuż przy linia morza, w dzielnicy zdominowanej przez domku lub małe hoteliki/ pensjonaty. Dobre śniadania i dania z karty, w rozsądnych cenach. Na pozytywną uwagę zasługuje personel, który jest fantastyczny - uśmiechnięty, pomocny. Hotel organizuje transport i wycieczki po Negombo, Colombo i na obserwację ptaków, którą polecam (ok 2h w godzinach porannych, udało nam się zobaczyć bardzo wiele ptaków, których nie mamy w Polsce, w tym lokalnego Orła oraz ogromne warany). Hotel potrzebuje odświerzenia. Widać, że jest już zniszczony po odpadającym tynku. W jednej łazience mieliśmy też nieprzyjemny zapach. Widok z pokoi na niższych piętrach nie jest rewelacyjny, owszem widać kawałek morza, ale głownie suszące się pranie. Najlepszy widok był z ostatniego piętra, na dachu.

Sarah (9/5): Fabulous - location and staff wonderful!! - Great location, easy pick up from the airport and the Hotel Manager Lucky was very attentive and sorted transfer, tours and taxi for us - very helpful and friendly - Sadeera was a fabulous driver - looked after us on our trip to Kandy and taking in all local sights and attractions, Kushan was a great restaurant manager - excellent food, small hotel so tell them what you want and freshly collected - my Mud Crab meal was lovely and the staff overall couldn’t do enough for us, was all fabulous. A little dated but had everything needed. Would definitely return here and hope to come back next year!!

Inge (9/5): Heel fijn verblijf! - Onwijs mooi hotel gelegen aan het strand. Wij hadden een kamer op het dakterras en dat was heerlijk rustig! Super mooi uitzicht over de zee en de tuin die echt prachtig is! Is minder dan een halfuur van de luchthaven en minder druk gelegen dan Colombo. Het bed was vrij hard.

Thijmen (10/5): Fijne rustige start van de vakantie met super service. - Het personeel was ontzettend aardig en behulpzaam. We hebben de stadstour gedaan via de accommodatie. Die was heel leuk om te doen en de omgeving te zien. Daarnaast hebben ze ons geholpen met het vervolg van de reis met goeie tips. Ook zijn we bij de bus afgezet met de tuktuk. De bus reed door en ze hebben alles geregeld en gebeld zodat we toch mee konden. Naast de goeie service in het hotel hielpen ze ook met alle andere dingen er om heen. Echt een aanrader om de vakantie rustig te starten. Eigenlijk niet.

It is not in a touristy area but very safe to wander around and see village life. Hotel will arrange a tuktuk to take you to Negombo (bit too far to walk). Hannah (10/5): Highly recommend staying here - My flight got cancelled because of the Cyclone so I had to stay an extra day in Sri Lanka which is why I ended up staying at Ziegler Cottage and it really turned a bad situation into a nice one! I really enjoyed my stay - I felt so well looked after, the outside area / pool is gorgeous and the location right by the sea means you fall to sleep hearing the waves! The food was really good too. My Uber cancelled to take me to the airport, so they woke up at 4:30am to drive me themselves. Would highly recommend staying here!

Trine (7/5): Velegnet hotel ved afrejse - Dejlig pool, kort afstand til lufthavnen, fint ophold for en nat ved ankomst eller afrejse. 700 meter fra hotellet er der en massør uddannelse med meget kompetente massører. Hotellet ligger lidt væk fra alting, derfor bedst egnet som transit hotel.

Harry (8/5): We had great fun, lots of adventures and felt very at home back at the guest house. - We really liked our rooms, it worked great for a family of four. We had the rooms at the top. The staff were always friendly and helpful. We made strong bonds over our short stay. We ate there every day and loved the food, a good mix of traditional food and western. We were right on the beach, had a great spot for the kids to swim safely. It was much quieter than the hotels up the beach which we really enjoyed. We also loved the river safari. We had two kids under 4 years and we felt very well looked after. We were happy with everything.

Vincent (10/5): Het was een aangenaam verblijf die perfect was in onze doorreis! - Super vriendelijk personeel die ons direct op ons gemak lieten voelen! Smorgens konden we de lokale vissersmannen aan het werk zien en savonds een mooie zonsondergang op het strand recht achter het verblijf. Het eten was hier ook zeer goed! In de buurt is er niet echt iets anders te doen.
Gisela (9/5): - Eine sehr gute Wahl um eine Sri Lanka Reise zu beginnen oder zu beenden. Die Nähe zum Flughafen ist unschlagbar! Die Zimmer sind schlicht, aber sehr sauber. Nachts hört man das Meer rauschen, tagsüber kann man den sehr gepflegten wunderschönen Garten und den Pool genießen. Es gibt einen Zugang direkt zum Strand, an dem man zwar nicht baden, aber den Sonnenuntergang genießen kann. Da Frühstück ist unglaublich reichhaltig und lecker und auch dem Restaurant sollte man einen Besuch abstatten, es lohnt sich. Was den Aufenthalt in diesem Hotels aber perfekt macht, ist die unglaubliche Gastfreundschaft und Freundlichkeit aller Mitarbeitenden und des Managements. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und werden bei unserem nächsten Besuch in Sri Lanka sicher wiederkommen.

Natasha (9/5): Good location, excellent staff ❤️ - The welcome on arrival was lovely, we were welcomed with a juice and a tour of the hotel. The proximity to the beach was ideal, as well as the lagoon for water activities. We made thorough use of the gym which was very well equipped for an independent hotel. The view from our room was great and we were able to sit on our balcony in the morning, have a coffee and enjoy the view and sea breeze. There was a lot of food on offer for breakfast also. We found the staff to be kind and accommodating.

Mario (10/5): Tolle Unterkunft mit Pool direkt am Meer - Wir sind hier nach einem langen Flug angekommen, es war unser erster Stopp in Sri Lanka. Gleich zum Einchecken gab es um 2 Uhr nachts einen frischen Saft. Das war wirklich toll. Wir haben uns sofort pudelwohl gefühlt, das ganze Personal war super freundlich und sehr hilfsbereit. Auch der Pool ist klasse und die Sitzflächen im Essbereich sehr bequem. Wir haben für einen Nachmittag sogar umsonst Fahrräder leihen können. Bett ist komfortabel, Bad sauber mit warmem Wasser und der Meerblick fantastisch. Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team! Zimmer war sehr geräumig mit Meerblick und Balkon. Aber auch etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Glaube mit ganz kleinen Handgriffen (neue Stühle auf dem Balkon, vielleicht ein Tisch und dafür sorgen, dass der Kühlschrank nicht mehr wackelt) könnte man relativ einfach für noch mehr Qualität sorgen. Führt insgesamt aber keinesfalls zu einem Punkt Abzug.

Rahel (9/5): Einen Besuch wert! - Das Personal ist unglaublich freundlich ohne aufdringlich zu sein, das Essen ist sehr lecker und authentisch und man kann die Schärfe selber anpassen, das komplette Gelände ist sehr sauber gehalten, der Pool ist warm, es gibt extra Handtücher dafür und es steht immer ein Wasserspender bereit. Die organisierte Tuk-Tuk Tour war gut und der Fahrer ist auf alle Wünsche eingegangen und hat mich als allein reisende Frau sicher fühlen lassen. Das Zimmer war sauber und auch wenn nicht alles europäische Standards erfüllen würde, hat alles funktioniert und die Klimaanlage war ein absoluter Segen!

Sonja (10/5): Perfect place to start and end your trip - I spent the first two nights of my Sri Lanka trip at Ziegler Cottage. It's the best place to arrive in the country. It takes about 30 minutes from the airport, but despite the proximity, the location is very quiet. The sea is right in front of the hotel. You can even hear it in the room and you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, anticipating your every need before you even realize you need it. Lucky and his colleagues are very dedicated, always friendly, and always have a smile on their faces. As a woman traveling alone, I felt especially comfortable and safe. An airport shuttle was easily arranged for me, and despite a delay and incorrect flight number, everything worked out perfectly. The breakfast is very generous with a wide selection and delicious fresh fruit every day. I can also highly recommend the food in the restaurant. I will definitely come back and spend my last few days of the trip here as well. -

Akio (7/5): コスパ高し。 - スリランカでのトランジットにて10時間あったので、ディユースで利用させていただきました。空港からはタクシーでも30分と掛かりません。 3名での利用でしたが、価格も安く部屋や共用部も十分です。また、徒歩にて海辺に出られます。レストランにて食事も楽しめ、コスパは高いです。また利用させていただきたいです。バスタブはありません。

Michaela (8/5): Guter erster Stop - Der Service und das Personal waren großartig. Das Frühstück und auch das Abendessen waren lecker. Die Gartenanlage samt Pool waren genau das richtige für die Ankunft und top gepflegt. Der anliegende Strand ist jedoch nicht nutzbar, zum einen ist dieser sehr zugemüllt und zum anderen auch nicht dazu geeignet ins Wasser zu gehen. Dessen sollte man sich bewusst sein. Unser Zimmer war mit TV ausgestattet, zudem gab es Duschgel/Shampoo sowie einen Fön und reichlich Steckdosen. Die Vermittlung von Tuktuks für Kurztrips nach Negombo und auch die Vermittlung eines Fahrers für unsere Weiterfahrt hat super und zu fairen Preisen geklappt. Alles in allem super Location für den ersten Stop in Sri Lanka.
