It was quite expensive for a family of four, at just under $400 AUD per night. As were the other options near the Mall. However, breakfast was included, which was a convenient way to start each day. The hotel was clean, with daily housekeeping, and overall it was a pleasant stay.

- sameerc476 (6/5): Good location, but not worth the elevated holiday price - We stayed here over Easter weekend, and because prices were elevated for the holiday, I did not feel the hotel was worth what we paid. At a meaningfully lower rate, I could see it being a more reasonable option, but at holiday pricing it felt underwhelming. One thing to know is that the lobby is on the third floor, which makes the arrival experience a bit odd. The main entrance of the hotel was unattended when we arrived, so it did not feel especially welcoming or polished. The hotel has clearly had some renovations, and there are areas that look updated, but overall it still feels pretty dated. The refreshed parts do not fully overcome the age of the property. Breakfast was convenient and nice to have, especially when traveling with family, but it was nothing special. It got the job done, but it was not a highlight of the stay. Overall, the location is useful for sightseeing, but the hotel did not deliver enough in terms of comfort, atmosphere, or service to justify the elevated holiday rate.

- R5NWjenniferm (2/5): Reservation cancelled 2 hours prior to check in - This hotel cancelled our reservation and notified me via email 2 hours prior to check in. The hotel overbooked rooms and was not able to confirm that a new hotel had been booked until I arrived in DC and was able to speak to someone at the front desk. While Hyatt did move us to the Residence Inn and offer us $300 off our total hotel bill and one free dinner, this is completely unacceptable and I will not stay with Hyatt again. At the very least, notify me earlier than 2 hours prior to arrival time so that I can receive a full refund and make my own arrangements.

Restaurant has a top notch view and service. Room is comfortable with a nice view and a super relaxing shower. Warm water and good water pressure. Good for relaxing after a long day walk.

We opted for the king bed suite which allowed me a place to enjoy my early mornings while my wife slept in. The room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The staff were all kind and courteous. We had one little glitch with the living room TV not working that took a couple of days to resolve.

The accommodations were spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully maintained, making it easy to relax and feel at home. - Cdougans (2/5): Very Disappointing Stay - Stayed here during our Washington visit and unfortunately it was a real let-down. Service felt disorganised from the start, with long waits and very little care shown towards guests. The room did not match expectations for the price — tired in places and not particularly well maintained. Attention to detail was lacking, and simple requests took far too long to resolve. For a hotel of this reputation, standards should be far higher. Sadly, this was not the experience we expected and wouldn’t return.

The location is perfect, and so convenient to walk or Uber to many sights. As a solo traveler, I appreciated the quiet, comfortable rooms and the security of using your key to operate the elevator.

The room was comfortable, the staff was attentive, and the breakfast was good with plenty of options. We would definitely stay there again.

- lkleng (6/5): Mixed Feelings Family Stay - As mentioned by previous customer, got a room with noisy AC and was mentioned by staff is a common operations of the AC system to produce that kind of noise. For light sleeper looking for a comfy stay, this is something not acceptable, requested to room change and after several to and fro, managed to a get a room that has muted noise from the AC which is not distracting. Thus, it seems like some room do have this noise issue due to equipment maintenance from the POV of AC engineer myself. Free breakfast is provided and I would say that their breakfast spread is good with Starbuck coffee provided, do not miss their breakfast. Not very crowded. There is a washing and dryer available onsite and a gym which we did not use it due to short 2 night stay. Location wise, it is walking distance to most of the tourist sights and museums. Hotel looks new and clean. Booked a room with 2 queen and sofa bed for a family of 4. Room is spacious and good for 4 to move around, TV channel selection is good. 15 mins ride to Amtrak station.
- apitchayar2025 (2/5): Poor operational handling and guest prioritization - I am writing to formally express my disappointment with my experience at Hyatt Place Washington DC / National Mall. I booked my stay through my company’s travel partner, Amex Global Business Travel (Amex GBT). My reservation status showed as confirmed, and I received no cancellation notice prior to arrival. However, when I arrived at the hotel around 5:00 PM after a full day of traveling and working, I was informed by the front desk that my reservation had been cancelled. When I asked for the reason and timing of the cancellation, the front desk staff could not provide a clear explanation and stated there was nothing they could do other than advise me to contact the third party. I was shown a screenshot indicating the reservation was cancelled, but no further details were available. I was also told the hotel was fully booked and that they could not rebook me for the night. Being turned away at that hour with no prior notice was extremely frustrating and stressful. With no immediate assistance and no available rooms, I had no choice but to quickly find alternative accommodations on my own. The following day, I informed my purchasing manager of the incident. She contacted Amex GBT, who confirmed that in their system the reservation was still marked as confirmed and that no cancellation notice had been issued. When she then contacted the hotel manager, she was told that the hotel cancelled my reservation due to no heat in the room and because National Guardsmen needed to be placed in the available rooms, and that they were unable to notify Amex GBT. This explanation contradicts what I was shown at the front desk, which indicated my reservation was cancelled on November 28, 2025 (the Friday after Thanksgiving). Regardless of the internal reasoning, the complete lack of communication, transparency, and guest consideration is unacceptable—especially for a business traveler arriving in the evening. This experience reflects extremely poor operational handling and guest prioritization. At no point was I notified in advance, offered assistance, or provided an alternative solution. I expect a higher standard of professionalism and communication from a Hyatt property. I hope Hyatt takes this feedback seriously and addresses the processes that allowed a confirmed guest to be turned away without notice
- U2034OMsherryb (2/5): Armed National Guard troops at the hotel. - We arrived at the hotel several hours prior to check-in and were told by the front desk associate that our room would be ready shortly and that we would be notified via text once it was available. Unfortunately, we never received any notification. We waited on-site until after the stated 3:00 p.m. check-in time, only to return to the desk and be told that our room had in fact been ready for quite some time. As we came back to check in, multiple busloads of armed National Guard personnel were arriving and being dropped off at the hotel. This was extremely unexpected, particularly given that we selected this property believing it would be a more exclusive experience consistent with the Hyatt brand. Had we known the hotel would be accommodating large groups of armed troops, we would have made a different lodging choice. The breakfast buffet itself was nice; however, most of the seating was occupied by men and women in uniform. We were uncomfortable and ultimately chose to take our food back to our suite rather than dine in the restaurant. We were in town for my mother-in-law’s funeral, which was already an emotionally difficult time. The lack of communication regarding our room readiness, combined with the atmosphere created by the heavy military presence, significantly detracted from our stay and added unnecessary stress during a period of mourning. I wanted to share this feedback so you are aware of how this experience impacted us, and I hope you will consider it when evaluating communication practices and guest expectations at your properties.

My daughter and I stayed 3 nights in November 2025. We have been travelling in the US and never come across anything like this ever before. Neither of us have ever smoked in our lives.The rooms are not particularly clean and smell. The air con is noisy . We asked to change rooms upon arrival because the room smelt. The day after we checked out my card was fraudulently charged $237 US for what I was told was a smoking fee.
- Anton2843 (10/5): Best Hyatt and celiac-friendly breakfast - This was one of the best stays I've had at a Hyatt with a family with 2 young children under 10. We booked 5 nights in a 2-queen bed room. Excellent location -- a few blocks to the national mall and multiple metro lines. My kids scootered everywhere and we went to lots of museums. The room was large and clean. The free breakfast had a lot of variety and was a hit daily. My daughter has celiac, and Evelyn and the kitchen team were able to provide excellent gluten-free options every day (not just gluten free but free of all cross-contamination). She went out of her way, even going to the grocery store and buying food online, then preparing it in a dedicated area and storing it separately. This was incredibly helpful but my daughter was thrilled to get a tray full of delicious food every morning. This really made the stay incredible. The staff were also extremely helpful and attentive. The front desk was also very helpful. They assisted with logistics, checkout, and everything else we needed. I can't recommend this hotel enough, we will definitely be staying here again.

- parkgolfgirl (10/5): Exceptional. Great location. - This particular Hyatt was in a perfect location. Close to two different subway stations and within walking distance of the "Mall" . We were a black and a half away from the United States Bible Museum And within a relative walking distance to both the Holocaust Museum and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The breakfast buffet was massive. The workout room was very large and clean. Staff was very pleasant and welcoming. Highly recommend!

The breakfast was absolutely delicious! We wish there was drinking water in the room. This is very important! We had to go to the store to buy drinking water for our evening tea. Otherwise, everything was great!
- 334kg (2/5): Worst Hyatt ever - The bathroom had a shower head that was extremely uncomfortable, it felt like the water was spraying hard on your skin no matter which setting. The faucet had extreme water pressure to the point turning it on even mildly made the water go everywhere. I mean everywhere. It was so annoying trying to wash my face or brush my teeth. The breakfast buffets was disgusting. There was old milk on the counter which hadn’t been wiped. The food was poor: sad looking fruit and lukewarm eggo waffles. The room next to us was booked even though the hotel was not at capacity, and the occupants were opening and closing doors all night and with a loud child. After texting the staff they simply said “security will come” and nothing happened. No one checked in on us after. Called the front desk to get my check in waters they never answered. The hotel had no where to sit and enjoy, just a few small couches. It was overall my worst Hyatt experience. I’m so mad I used my points on this.

Although there are not many restaurants nearby, Uber eats deliveries are within 15 minutes of ordering. The hotel also has a nice breakfast bar included with stay. It is very convenient to fuel up for a long day of museum activities.

I can check in without having to go to meet the receiptionist and use my digital key to get into the elevator and room. The checkout I can text to the hotel to change my checkout time beyond 12pm. It was smooth and awesome experience.

It was 9:05. I sat and drank my coffee and watched as other families did the same. I then proceeded to buy a $9. Cupcake from the bar that was NOT tasty. Other than that hotel was ok. We wished we had stayed at the Holiday Inn next block. Great restaurant there called 21st Amendment.

- Explore32345437202 (4/5): A sad mistake - Nestled cozily between the train tracks and interstate 395, it has lovely view of the latter. Windows blocked out a fair amount of the highway and train noise, but there was a general constant rumble. The breakfast was just…sad. Some fake scrambled eggs, some dried and sad looking French toast and pancakes. All served on elegant paper plates and plastic utensils (and if course, paper cups for coffee). I’d say the coffee was not bad, though. Nothing really in the immediate neighborhood of interest…some office buildings and apartments. Most major attractions are a 30 walk or so. All in all, it was a mistake staying here.

- robindQ9032TZ (10/5): Hyatt Place National Mall Hotel...Great place to stay. - The Hyatt Place National Mall is a very nice place to stay with comfortable rooms and a nice breakfast. It is close to DCA/Reagan Airport so the taxi ride is very affordable. We were able to walk to the wharf area and to the Museum of the Bible. The convenience of Metro is available if one wants to use it. There are several restaurants in the area and the hotel has a couple of choices, too. We didn't notice outside noise. The staff was very accommodating at check in and check out. Because we were going to a museum before the airport, they locked up our bags for us. I would definitely stay there again.

- LuxurytoLazy (8/5): Meh - Very clean. Nice to have a restaurant and bar onsite. But with caveat below.. Breakfast is very good. But I’d like to point out that online, they show a variety of wines by the glass from brands I know. All 4 nights I was there, it was “Chardonnay or bubbles are the only white wines we have.” This at rooftop bar when asked about white by the glass. At the 3rd floor bar, “Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay.” No names of wineries. Most adults want to know the wine they are drinking. Advertising that you have Villa Maria Sauv Blanc online and then literally no name ($22 a glass I might add) wine is offensive. My room phone did not work. This is an issue I’ve read about this property. If you ever have an issue with a guest needing help, a personal injury attorney will have field day with this fact. I needed to ask about something, walked down when my phone wasn’t working, it worked once I got to the room. Then it did not work the rest of my trip. Clearly they are turning off the phone system. If there is a medical or safety emergency, this is so unfair to your guests and so dumb. My room did not have a microwave or fridge and I believe the property advertises that every room has both. It’s fine. Not great.
