- Suat Pean (8/5): A very pleasant stay - Good range for all taste. Need more English speaking staff though must admit people are very patient with non Chinese speaking clients.
- Suo (8/5): -
- Leyna (8/5): -
- QIUSHI (8/5): Far and over priced - Well overpriced and not a good view surprisingly for a hotel so far from everything, practically suburbs
- Mandy (4/5): - The girls working in the gym / swimming pool area are rude
- Kirill (10/5): - Great place to stay!
Thanks.
- Casado (8/5): 2 Days in Harbin - Excellent hotel, room and service from de people. Was a disapointed point to know that the hotel do not a good bar. Has an excellent executive room, but is not a good bar we can spent a good time with friends or family after a long day of vacation or working.
- Wai Kin (10/5): -
- Getaway50200892450 (8/5): Not like a JW Marriot - Very deserted
More like a four point than a JW
The minibar was empty and the design of the bathroom was disgustingly annoying
Why ?Why would u put towel rack just right above the toilet??
My head crushed on it for several times
The breakfast just soso
If u want to see the river view
This one may not be ur first choice
Also the janitor is very awesome
- Rich (10/5): One of the Best Hotel Stays in years - If I could give the JW Marriott Staff a 20, I would. In addition to the normally high-quality service provided by Marriott, the staff was beyond excellent--from the front desk to the concierge to the staff throughout the hotel. They kept a special eye on us to make sure we were taken care of (we were the only non-Asians we saw there). We had such a fun evening with their free dumpling-making session on Chinese New Year, followed by a free Chinese New Year dinner and entertainment. They all made us feel at home. Although not located in a downtown area, the hotel is close to some of the more popular venues which are the reason folks come to Haerbin during the Ice and Snow Festival. The hotel offers a free shuttle several times a day to the Ice and Snow World, the Snow Sculpture World, the Siberian Tiger Park, and St Sophie's Church (which is the downtown area). A taxi back from each venue is less than 50 RMB (7 USD). As always, the Marriott breakfast buffet didn't disappoint with a plethora of food and drink offerings. I did want to mention one thing for which I commend the hotel staff. I stupidly left my phone in the taxi one evening and implored their help. They pulled their camera tapes, found the number of the taxi, called the taxi cab company and arranged to have the driver return the phone to me---an invaluable service since the phone contained my Chinese Sim card and I had 3 weeks left to go in China. I know the temperatures are below 0 F but it was quite warm in the room and we couldn't lower the temperature. This was partially due to the heated floors in the bathroom and vestibule area, which was a nice touch. The internet--connectivity and speed---needs work, but, hey, this is China and not unexpected.
- abdulaziz (6/5): - There was problem finding staff who speak good English. Food at the lobby was below average and took almost an hour!
- Jeetesh (6/5): - One of the worst JW Marriott properties we have stayed at. Checked in around 1pm and by the time we settled into the room, we headed towards the restaurant in the hotel only to find out that the only option was their fine dining Chinese restaurant. Asked for a quick lunch option and they didn’t have any. The images online show a very posh hotel, but it’s pretty run down. The executive lounge too is quite poor. Will not recommend
- Susan (4/5): - The hotel provides services as other 4-5-star hotel does, including breakfast, afternoon tea and light dinner, but the facilities are very dated, for example the rugs in the public area are not pleasant to see.
I would not return to this hotel for my next visit for sure if the hotel remains the same condition.
- Chazalmartin (8/5): All in, JW Marriott hotel experience was very good - excellent breakfast and room arrangement Gym cooling system and lack of water/towels availability in the morning
- Nan (10/5): - Highly recommend
- Nan (10/5): - Got a free room upgrade. A satisfying experience
- Nine (7/5): Good -
- Tony (6/5): Pleasant -
- sinl1000 (2/5): Bad customer service and stole are money - We had book and paid for 5 guest but the hotel only acknowledged 4 guest and we have to pay extra when we has already paid for FIVE GUEST!!! Unacceptable!!! And they don't want to take responsibility for their mistake!! The executive lounge receptionist made up rules on her own! One day she said A and the next day is different. Poor customer service and not friendly at all! We try to keep our calm but their service is just so bad we cannot handle this anymore. Will never stay in this chain ever again. Will give 0 star if possible!
- Danny (7/5): It was great - The cleanliness, facilities The room temperature was too warm at night. Probably due to the heater. But staff was helpful to provide us with portable aicon to help rectify the issue.
- Yuhang (10/5): -
- Chai (9/5): Nice -
- fstst2 (4/5): A so so JW with a bad location if you go for holiday - Location of the hotel is bad. Nothing near to this hotel. arrived about 9 pm had no help with the luggage most staff don’t speak or speak a very limited english. Was offered a fake upgrade as I am Bonvoy elite member but realised that it is a same room with my other room. the room was suffocating hot. Service wasn’t available. Breakfast was not JW standard. When finished many not replaced. The egg station is for mass production.I would expect this kind of service from local 4 star Chinese brand. Not JW. Again a disappointing star will not return and will not recommend it.
- Anastasia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ilia (6/5): Pleasant - nice location, helpful staff Not working safe deposit box, bathtub water holder didn’t work well, bar selling whiskey was closing very early
- rachelsJ6739CG (10/5): Amazing stay - You could always trust the Marriott all over the world. Every staff there went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting downtown Harbin, China.
- Emir (8/5): Very good -
- Mashgiach (4/5): Old tired hotel very disappointed - I was surprised when I arrived to see it was and ild tired hotel. I arrived about 11 pm had no help with the luggage most staff don’t speak or speak a very limited english
The bath had mold the room was suffocating hot. The executive lounge fresh food variety was bad no fresh vegetables and limited fresh fruit. Service wasn’t available. Breakfast was ok had some variety of vegetables and fruit want a regular black americano coffee and no one had an idea what i mean they bought me a cappuccino then macchiato then i just gave up. I would expect this kind of service from local 4 star Chinese brand. Not JW.
Again a disappointing star will not return and will not recommend it.
- Brezo_R (8/5): Good family trip - Firstly check in was very fast, staff was welcoming and helpful with tips about whereabouts. Room (suite) was spacious enough, clean and equipped with good amenities.Location of the hotel does not give you many choices for dinner.Chinese restaurant inside was open, but food was very average.Western restaurant was only open on Saturday when we were there. The positive thing is that the location for the Ice and Snow World was a 10 min drive away.Breakfast with many variety to choose from.Generally speaking a good option while in Harbin, just be ready to look around other places for dinner
- julior997 (6/5): Good hotel...bad timing - First, I want to thank the staff from the hotel. Peter from the front desk was really helpful, the people working in the restaurant and the housekeeping ladies in my floor (17). The hotel is very modern but the location is tricky. To get there you must ride a cab. I tried to walk from the nearest Metro station (Shimao Ave) but it is over 2 kilometers and with temperatures average -22 wasn't that pleasant. The facilities like the spa and swimming pool were open only with a hand full of guests. The restaurant was open but only as room service. The food wasn't bad at all, a bit on the pricey side but there were not other options. My biggest disappointment was the room. The closet is located in the room's hall and the design is so poor it doesn't even have drawers to unpack the suitcases. When you open the closet you are really blocking the hall.
Near the hotel there is literally no place to go to have a coffee. The nearest place is the MIXC mall that has a Starbucks but you need to take a cab to get there (5-7minutes ride). To get to the city, I took DiDis and rode the metro. The Metro system is AMAZING. You can use other Metro cards (I used my card from Shanghai) It is extremely cheap (4 to 6 RMB) per ride.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good view - Most of the rooms have a good view on the River, sort of wetland in Summer, which is amazing treatment indeed.
- 152maximb (8/5): New, clean, great service - Very happy with my stay at this hotel. My Bonvoy platinum status was recognized with an upgrade to a suite on a club floor. Staff was quite helpful and pleasant. The facility itself is modern and clean. Nice furnishings in the room and common areas.
Location is a bit far from the south side (the Central Street district) but quite convenient to the ice festival and tiger reserve. So, in the end - a good compromise. Taxi fares were pretty cheap going across the river - RMB30-40, depending on the traffic.
In the spirit of constructive criticism, I'll make a couple of suggestions that would have made this a full 5-star establishment.
1. Staff's English skills can be improved, especially at the front desk. Concierge was better. Part of the appeal of sticking with an international chain in an unfamiliar country is to overcome the language handicap.
2. Menu for breakfast could have had a little
better Western variety. The food was tasty and
plentiful, but not too much for those not
enamoured with a chinese-style breakfast.
Overall, if I wouldn't mind staying here again, especially if I was seeing sights on the North side of the river (tiger reserve, Opera House, ice festival, Wanda City, Poseidon water park).
- 235noelv (8/5): Good but not quite yet a JW Marriott - Staff especially the front desk and concierge are very helpful and accommodating. The room was nice, clean and comfy. I requested for foam pillows in the app and they were there, good attention to this detail. Some improvements can be done on the quality of some of the dishes in the JW Cafe. It was either a hit or a miss, some dishes are really good but others are not. More selection is also needed. I also find lack of staff in the hotel lounge Cafe and the Chinese restaurant, maybe because of the Chinese new year holiday. I wanted to have lunch and snacks in these places but nobody was there. I appreciate the shuttle service. Generally, it was okay but compared to other JW I've been to, they can do better.
- GlobalWizzo (10/5): Really nice Hotel - We stayed at the JW Marriott, Harbin River North, January 15-19, 2020, in order to visit Ice and Snow World and the snow sculptures on Sun Island. With Titanium status, we bumped up into a very nice City View Suite which was beyond our expectations: 2 bathrooms, living room, and large bedroom. The living room had a sofa, desk, leisure and work chairs, TV, closet, wall shelf unit, luggage rack, and many cabinets and drawers for storage. It was reminiscent of the JW Marriott Marquis in Dubai, on a smaller scale. One bathroom, by the front door was toilet and sink only, but very spacious and the counter was long and equipped with a makeup mirror. The main bath had toilet, shower and tub, a smaller sink area with makeup mirror, but featured a TV within the mirror. The tub had a reading rack across it, equipped with a book stand and TV remote. The bedroom also had a TV shelving, and a closet. Controls by the bed allowed for lighting control and also control of the automatic shades and drapes. (Auto drapes were in the main bath and living area as well as the bedroom.) The suite was richly decorated in varnished wood, touches of gold, and a chandelier. There was indirect accent lighting and task lighting available in every room at the touch of a switch, allowing for easy reading in every room, or mood enhancement with low lights. Charging stations were on each side of the bed—both plug and USB...a feature we’ve come to expect but have not found uniformly. Most of the outlets are multi plug types for euro, us and Australian plug types
Our overall impression was one of opulence: lots of marble, mirrors, heavy sliding frosted glass doors, shiny wood, and thoughtful conveniences.
During Ice festival time, a hotel shuttle provides drop off service at a local mall, Tiger Park, Sun Island (snow sculptures), Ice and Snow World (the world famous ice sculptures), and Central Avenue (Zhongyang Pedestrian Street). Seating is limited and you have to book a specific time and destination. You will need to cab back and the DiDi app is a must.
We’d read some accounts that mentioned Lounge food was sparse, but as far as we were concerned, the food provided in the Exec Lounge was sufficient in type and quantity to meet our needs. The cream puffs that were part of the afternoon tea offerings were the best I’ve had. They were filled with real whipped cream. One nice touch was a cooked to order menus of dumplings, wonton soup and a couple other selections in the evening in addition to multiple hit and cold foods.
Breakfast was available in one of the hotel restaurants, and we chose this over eating a continental breakfast in the Lounge (Lounge breakfast must be booked a day prior). Albeit heavily skewed toward Chinese delicacies (hello, we’re in China), we both found plenty to eat. There was an omelet station, mini pancakes, cereal, salad, fruit, and various breads for the traditional Western eater. If you like Chinese food—and we do—there was a noodle bowl station, myriad cold marinated salads, dim sum, fried rice, fried noodles, sushi, countless soups, and items that looked good but that I was unfamiliar with. The staff were friendly and attentive.
The hotel has a Brewery bar/restaurant with live entertainment.
Things that stood out. Hannibal, one of the concierge team, was always looking out for us. Reminder calls for the shuttle, taxi driver directions, etc.
The floor maid was super attentive. This is one of the few properties that includes laundry for 2 pieces daily for this group.
Other info:
This was our 3rd China trip in the past 12 months as tourists.
Harbin is one of the larger cities with Russian influences from years back. English is not widely spoken locally or by the hotel staff. That said their English was far super to my Chinese. Google Translate works and everyone uses that or the local version. Apple Maps were more current than Google. You need a good data package or none of this works. Facebook works with the cellular data and not in the hotel WiFi. I found this to be true in all the Marriott’s so far. Still,it is interesting to be the only westerners any where. Hotel/train/subway etc. we had a lot of fun.
- SEA-Fred (8/5): Hotel for snow and ice festival - 4.5 stars
I mostly agree with Jane E’s review of the hotel. I think we rode the hotel shuttle bus with her a few times andTakes quite a bit with her but never caught her name 😁.
The king room we had at the hotel was very nice. Large bed, remote controlled drapes, separate tub, large shower. Our room also had a view of the river (but unfortunately the smog was quite bad during our visit so we weren’t able to fully enjoy the view).
Pros:
Complimentary shuttle to main attractions
Nice clean rooms
Concierge
Executive lounge was nice
Staff was nice
Pretty good breakfast buffet
Cons:
Room temperature couldn’t be adjusted (a bit warm but not unbearable)
Somewhat limited food choices in the lounge
Taxi drivers either weren’t familiar with the hotel location or didn’t want to drive us to the Songbei area (save yourself some hassles and download the DiDi app!!!)
A special thanks to concierge staff Frank (lead concierge?), Barry (always smiling and giving The Shaka 🤙), and Hannibal (honest taxi advice). Everyone at the concierge desk was so eager to help. Frank, Barry, and Hannibal all spoke very good English and took great pride in their jobs. Thanks for a great stay!
BTW, the ice festival is spectacular!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location is accessible to the Ice and Snow World Festival. Check in was fast and smooth.
- JaneE604 (8/5): Classy but a distance from the downtown - I stayed 3 nights at the JW Marriott while attending the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival. I had booked a King room but was upgraded to something a little bigger. The room had a king bed, desk, sofa and coffee table. The bathroom was big with a walk in shower, toilet in a separate cubicle, a full size bath and twin sinks. There were also the usual amenities including a kettle (but no coffee maker), iron and ironing board, safe and minibar. The latter had only a few cans of drink and a couple of packets of cookies. The curtains and blinds worked mechanically via a switch by the bed which it took me some time to find. Echos of "Lost in Translation" for those who have seen that movie. I was also confused with the light switches and never managed to make the lamps work. Fortunately the ceiling lights were bright enough not to need any assistance. On a down note is the free wifi which is one of the worst connections that I have had in China. It was so slow as to be just a small step up from dial up.
My tariff included breakfast in a main restaurant. It was busy but not frantic. From my perspective there were not enough western options but that is to be expected in a hotel where the majority of guests are Chinese. There was a very nice executive lounge that I was able to use as a Marriott elite member. Lovely staff, okay food and a nice view out over the river. The concierge desk arranged to send an international package for me at a very reasonable cost and with little fuss which was very much appreciated. The hotel has a free shuttle to the downtown and the Ice and Snow festival parks. It only runs a couple of times a day and does not offer return rides but was a good benefit given that the hotel is way beyond walking distance from the downtown. A major downside of the hotel is the lack of anything but offices and hotels within walking distance and also that no taxi drivers seem familiar with it.
Overall however, it was a very comfortable place to stay with helpful staff which compensated for the distance from the downtown.
- Aniketb570 (10/5): Best hotel in Harbin - Situated not too far from the ice and snow festival.. The hotel has a fantastic view of the river which when we went was frozen. The rooms are very spacious and have a very comfortable bed. The bathroom comes with a tub and a separate showering area. The good part was few of the staff was very comfortable with english which was a blessing. In the concierge, Hannibal spoke very good English and was very helpful for us to plan our days. The hotel has a very shuttle which goes to ice festival and Serberian tiger park which was a very big value add. They have a lovely brewery also down which serves freshly brewed beer with American appetizers like nachos with guac and etc. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
- Mike_Wong75 (10/5): JW Never Disappoints Me ! - It was an amazing stay for my family for a 5D4N stay at the hotel during the 2019 Dec winter season. I visited Harbin for the first time with my family to experience the annual Ice and Snow Festival, I chose JW Marriott as it has never disappointed me for my past stays in this hotel brand, and I was right once again this time.
As a Platinum Elite member, my family and I were greeted upon arrival with welcome drinks and towels. The hotel staffs were all friendly and welcoming. I was upgraded to a suite room at #729. It was comfortable, spacious and clean. I enjoyed the huge TV in the living room and the bathtub with mini TV and bath salt provided. Bed and sofa were very comfortable for a good and relaxing stay. A little flaw in this room was the bathroom rain shower glass door was not installed properly, it slanted slightly giving an impression that the glass door could be detached any time. I contacted the maintenance department, it was inspected and certified to be safe (with tightening of all parts) and they said it would eventually need to be replaced.
The hotel is not located in the downtown area. You need a transport to travel to attractions and shopping mall under extreme cold weather. The nearest shopping mall, The MIXC, is approximately 5-10 min by car or 20-30 min by walking distance. Initially, I learned from TripAdvisor that there was shuttle service provided to hotel guests to Zhong Yang Street and etc. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment to learn from hotel concierge that they no longer provide this service for the time being. We relied on metered taxis to travel to attractions. Fortunately, concierge has been helping us with the taxi booking and the taxis are all reliable. I must say that the metered taxi fare in Harbin is really reasonable, only approx. CNY 20-30 to travel to downtown area like Zhong Yang Street.
Breakfast at JW Cafe was not really inviting and pleasant. The choices were limited and many food items like bakeries and fried eggs were not immediately replenished when they ran out. The food items served during breakfast were the same for every morning, no surprises for hotel guests. The same at the executive lounge, food has to be pre-ordered a day in advance! I could not even find a champagne for my enjoyment. Nevertheless, the view from executive lounge during day time was magnificent, overlooking the frozen Songhua River and Sun Island.
Another improvement for consideration is to adjust the swimming pool water temperature to a warmer level, it was set to 27C when I used it... I was still shivering during my swim under the extreme cold temperature although it is an indoor pool.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Nice facility but not in the city of Harbin - we went for the top of the range [Lounge access/Executive Floor] and it was everything it should have been
Only problem was that it was on the north side of the river and about 25-30 minutes into town
- Gene En (10/5): Loved the hotel and staff. A bit far from shops - Rooms were excellent. Service professional and front desk and bellhops are extremely friendly.
- Rachel (10/5): - Staff were amazing
- lyfce (10/5): Fabulous hotel with great breakfast and bar - An amazing hotel with great facility and service. The view of the room is great. Bed is comfortable, and clean. A great selection of breakfast on the third floor, plus very friendly service. There is one brewery on the ground floor, offers Mexican and German cuisine. Top food and service, adding a great band performance. Strongly recommend.
- HardshellMexicanRest (10/5): best hotel in harbin - high standard, JW Marriot is without doubt the best hotel in the city, good price, excellent food offers, I really recommend this experience, nice, good, exelent they have a German restaurant with very good live music.,
- King Hoe (10/5): Nice hotel. - check in counter was fast and service was excellant.
Best was the executive lounge which serve variety of nice food with nice view as well.
- totosherman (8/5): Good hotel and good service - First time to travel the city and the location of the hotel are not so good. River view but looks not so attractive. A little bit far from shoping mall or restaurant, around 2km.
Service is good and the lounge is also good. Overall the hotel is rcommendation.
- kamchedalova (10/5): Very good - We booked two rooms, while booking asked for the best view and these two rooms should be very close to each other, so they gave us 19th floor and room were in the corner at the end of corridor, it was very convenient for us! And we had a river view.
- ruiz425 (10/5): Great hotel excellent service - I chose this hotel because it just changed from Kempinski to JW Marriott and it proved to be a great choice. Spacious room with detailed design just made me enjoy more of my trip to Harbin. I really appreciate the help from Lillian and Duke during my stay. They really showed me the standard of a JW Marriott. I will certainly choose this hotel again when i come back during winter time.
- AHappyKoala (10/5): Very pleasant stay - We found the best thing about this hotel was the staff on club level and the boys at concierge. Super courteous, helpful and speak good English. Room is clean and spacious but the central heating was too warm. Courtesy bus service is convenient and pre-book is advisable during busy seasons. Good variety at breakfast buffet, excellent coffee.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice and new. Good breakfast.
Location - not the best if you want to walk around at night to explore.
Also, no money exchange. It is the only 5 star hotel I ever stayed in China that does not exchange foreign currency.
- Verified traveler (8/5): JW
- Mimi (10/5): - Lovely staff, great comfort, worth the money for sure.
The only downside is the slightly remote location.
However, the location enables a view on to sun island, where the ice sculptures are located.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The view of the river was pleasing. Some of the furniture was a bit tired, I thought the lobby could do with a refurbish sometime in the next few years.
- Yunsheng (10/5): Very good - Nice location
- KANG (10/5): - Nice room and fitness center, no AC in the morning!
- yue ping (6/5): - Mooie hotel, uitgebreide ontbijt.
- Chiu Mei Sheryl (10/5): Superb hotel away from the crowds - Great in-room amenities, nice window view, super comfortable bed, good range of complimentary movies. Room was a bit too warm despite low aircon temperature setting.
- Jimmy (8/5): Luxury stay but a little far from city center - Beautiful hotel but far from downtown. The front desk stuff speak English but not much of the other stuff. Communication can be difficult. The room was clean and had a nice humidifier.
- Verified traveler (6/5): New hotel - A new hotel staff needs still some training.
Breakfast only chinese restaurant needs an European one.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Soren (6/5): Nice hotel. Good location for icepark.poor service - Very good hotel but very very bad service. We had 2 rooms with 2 persons per room and hotel kept insisting breakfast was only including 1 person per room. We showed them booking were it said breakfast free and they kept insisting every morning we pay for 1 person per room. At checkout they wanted extra money for a towel the claimed they could not clean that came from our room. They had not told us about it before checkout and we had no idea if it was from our room or just any other room. It all seemed rather petty and downgraded the stay. The hotel itself was very nice and close to sights. Breakfast was not fantastic for a 5*star though.
- Takaharu (8/5): takaharu -
- Oded (10/5): Kempinski Hotel Harbin review - The hotel is located 20-30 minutes by car from the city center and 10-15 minutes from the Ice and Snow festival locations.
Nice upscale hotel, friendly staff however communication to most of the staff is very limited if you do not speak Chinese.
Luxury hotel that with some more attention to employes English communication skills can be a gem for tourists as well.
- Chang Hyun (10/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Malcolm (10/5): Exceptional hotel with amazing staff - Exceptional hotel with amazing staff from being welcomed on arrival by the doorman, quick and efficient check-in, an upgrade to a suite, excellent quality food for in-room dining, full western and Asian buffet available for breakfast plus pleasant and efficient staff serving.
For those that gym or bodybuilder the dumbells are in excess of 20kgs, a rarity in most hotel fitness rooms. This hotel has a GYM, not a fitness room.
Check-out was very efficient as well.
- PUI SHUN (10/5): - Location is not perfect. Other than that, everything is perfect.
- janice Tze yen (10/5): - Good for business stay
- Joe (10/5): Nice hotel with German restaurant. - Kempinski is a good choice for Harbin. The room was nice. But there was a minor maintenance issue. Service was quite good. Inside the hotel is the Paula Brauner restaurant, which serves great German food and beer. At night, the restaurant staged entertainment - a band from Cuba. Not much surrounding Kempinski. You'll likely have to eat meals at the hotel. Breakfast buffet was tasty.
