Guest Reviews
- K (10/5): - Perfectly rustic, inviting, and quiet. Great food. Well done
- Gilbert (8/5): - Very unique and interesting place. Friendly staff beautiful scenery
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Such a fabulous experience. Wonderfully kind hosts, beautiful setting, great food. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- Kelley (10/5): - The entire property is unique! It is a RANCH in the high desert. You do not come here for a resort poolside relaxation vacation! You come to ENJOY the isolated kick back atmosphere and beauty of the high desert as presented by family members with ties back to the very early 1800s.
- Robert (8/5): Relaxing - Enjoyed the relaxed family atmosphere. The hosts made us feel right at home.
- Ellen (10/5): - This is a working ranch and facilities are for a working ranch. But it is great, lots of fun, and food is good!
- Nick (10/5): - Nice stay at ranch with star view around.
Very good breakfast like home.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Ranch cabin - Great ranch. Good food. Clean rooms and bathhouse. Staff was super friendly. Bonfire with s'mores
- Sean (10/5): Outstanding hospitality. - The hospitality at this family-owned-and-run lodging and working cattle ranch was outstanding. Grand Canyon Ranch and Outfitters was my wife and kids' favorite stay of our week-plus family vacation in several states. Clean, quiet, comfortable, with loads of hearty, good food. Cowboy Mark was exceptionally kind to our kids in showing them the barn, horses, chicken coop, campfire smores, etc. Our dogs had a fine time, too. We hope to return for another stay in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great experience, especially for kids, we knew it was more of a rustic experience and so we were totally up for that being from a large city, the beds were very comfortable, the staff was very friendly. We stayed up past the generator turn off just to see the stars!
- Michelle (10/5): Something different - This was a great stay at a warm family run business... we had a great time riding horses and roasting marshmallows by the fire.
- Marlene (10/5): Wonderful place a bit off the grid - Positives : our host, debbie and the Staff and the complimentary breakfast were superb.Beds were extremely comfortable. Wonderful campfire and smores at night. Community space was warm and inviting. Sunset was magnificent.friendly dogs to greet us.
Negatives: .we were surprised to find that there was no electricity after 10 pm, and bathrooms and showers were in a separate building. We did adjust, however this information should have been on the website. This was fun for one or two nights, but would not have been enjoyable for a longer stay.
- philippe (8/5): ranch experience - the place, food and people are amazing. The cost of the room is a bit high in regard of the comfort.
- Frederic (10/5): - Juste authentique
- Stephanie (10/5): Peace & Quiet in the Old West - Grand Canyon Ranch & Outfitters is AH-MAZING!! The only downside to this trip was that we only needed to stay one night. My husband and I definitely plan on going back.
A working cattle ranch that has belonged to a family for 7 generations is obviously doing something right! Normally, this is a place where people come to work and herd cattle (for that Ol' West experience) but just to take in the views and peace and quiet...ahhh!
It's important to know what you're getting into though. This is first and foremost a cattle ranch. There is no steady source of electricity. You are given (battery operated) lanterns for your cabins. A generator is run for so many hours in the morning and then again at night so electrical devices can be charged during those times (in the saloon). Honestly, though, if you come to stay here, you're not going to be using those devices a whole lot. This is a place where you disconnect. There are board games, a beautiful chessboard, free cookies and beverages all in the saloon. The showers are in a separate building but don't fear, these facilities would make some of your "regular" hotels jealous. But remember, if you want hot water, shower while the generator is running and don't forget your lantern if it's dark out.
The food. Oh, the food! Good, hearty ranch style cooking. This is the type of food you'd expect if you're about to go and work out in the field all day and it's delicious!
Cannot wait to go back!!!
My family stayed just one night but it was just memorable. Welcoming atmosphere felt good and my children had great time playing board games in the dining room and making s'more outside. The dinner and the breakfast was something that homemade cooking should be. We enjoyed its natural and healthy taste - not salty, not greasy.
After the generator was turned off, it was pitch-black dark. We gazed at the night sky feeling and hearing winds and occasional shooting stars amused us.
It may not be convenient. The only lighting in rooms is lanterns and bathroom and showers are shared. However, the uniqueness of the experience is the reason why we chose here and I recommend here to you.
- Raymond (10/5): Great place - Deb was very understanding about our late arrival and made a huge breakfast in the morning.
Will stay longer next time
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice quiet place to stay - A really nice quiet place to stay. Out in the middle of nowhere with no distractions from such things as TV or wifi. And the best thing of all is you can really see the stars at night.
- Tanvi (10/5): A nice ranch experience! - I booked this hotel with a bit of hesitancy considering it was a ranch, but it turned out to be a very memorable stay.
The rooms were clean, the shared bath house was also clean and had lots of fresh towels.
Debby was very kind and I loved the personal touch that she gave to the place.
The ranch gives you a 360 degree view around, it's away from the light pollution (starry nights!) and of course the neighing horses.
Tip - since it's located away from the city, remember to arrange your meals in advance.
- christine (10/5): - Great place, amazing host, terrific stay.
- William (6/5): - This accommodation is not for everyone. If you like basic, primitive accommodation then this is for you. Good breakfast and friendly people generous with their snacks and since it is a working ranch it is interesting. Rooms have no electricity or AC, although this did not create a problem for us. Overall it was too highly priced for what you got..
- Marta (10/5): western roadtrip - Daughter and I roadtripped to the west for awesome spots. This definitely fit our requirements, a working ranch with awesome food and even better hosts. Sitting by the fire at night, waking up to beautiful ranch land in a home type setting.
- Gina (10/5): Such a peaceful place - Wow. Loved it. Our kids were apprehensive about the remote location and electricity at only certain times. But as their parents we made the executive decision to book this place. Absolutely no regrets. It was so refreshing and the food was fabulously cooked by Debbie. You gotta try this. My 12 year old daughter loved the 2dogs and the horses.
- jklyhl (2/5): No minimum electricity
No TV, just dark in night - Do not include in Orbitz hotel list.
Not qualified for overnight stay
- Pamela (10/5): Gorgeous scenery and lovely people! - Wow! Excellent people. I had such an enjoyable stay and would gladly stay there again when in the same area.
- Louise (10/5): A fantastic experience - Staying on this family ranch was the best accommodation we had during our touring holiday. It is not luxury. Electricity is limited to certain times (battery operated lanterns provided) and so too is hot water. However, sitting on your private cabin veranda watching the sun go down, having home cooked food, sitting around the fire pit into the evening talking with other guests and horse riding the next morning with a cowboy is what you go there for. (no wi-fi - but that's the point of getting away from modern stresses!) If you love the outdoors and want something a bit different this is not to be missed.
- Misel (10/5): Authentic American Ranch - A great authentic cowboy type of accomodation. Very friendly owners that own the property for eight generations straight and still actualy hurd catle and horses.
- Jeanne (10/5): Out west experience - Amazing out west experience. Most wonderful hosts- very friendly, shared great stories.
- Christina (10/5): Authentic, fun and memorable-Friendliest host ever - We loved our stay at the Ranch. Debbie is a perfect hostess--friendly and welcoming, we couldn't have asked for a warmer greeting. The communal meals were also fun. The food was tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced. For dinner, neighbours and friends dropped in. We met more of the host family. These were cowboys and girls with stories to tell, and they were happy to tell them. One even brought his guitar! We gathered at the campfire, ate s'mores and got to know each other. It was delightful to learn more about the ranch lifestyle. Conversation lasted until midnight. Breakfast was another chance to commune with the group and see the environs by daylight. Again, Debbie went out of her way to make our party comfortable. She is truly a gem.
The ranch was a great midpoint between Lake Powell/Antelope Canyon and the Grand Canyon. A wonderful way station which permitted us to get a sense for the remoteness of this part of the country, and to sample a lifestyle that is so different from ours. It was a terrific experience and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Place to Stay - An amazing genuine Cowboy Ranch experience. The owners were charming and the place had a real homely feel to it. The food and hospitality was superb. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here if you are on your way in or out of the Grand Canyon North Rim.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great experience all around. Family had a great time enjoying the ranch and the food was perfect.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very Powerful even without POWER! - This was a great place if you you can handle no electricity. They have generators for a few hours in the morning and in the evening. The cabins were clean and comfortable. The bathhouse was very clean and not far from the cabins. You experienced what ranch life was like and we loved it. Donny and his family were great. They cooked two delicious home cooked meals and the trail ride they took us on was a lot of fun.
I would love to go back next time I am in the area!
Thanks Donny, Debbie and gang for a great time!!!
- Doug (10/5): A Very Nice Change of Pace - We stayed here after visiting the Grand Canyon North Rim, on the way to Mt Zion National Park. During a week of staying in hotels in Las Vegas, Arizona, and Utah, this one night stood out as a great change of pace. There is no electricity in the cabin, and you use a shared bath house. I would describe it as camping, but with a very nice bed, a roof over your head, someone cooks you a GREAT breakfast, and you don't have to lug camping gear along. At 9:30 they turned off the generators and it gets very dark. Great for sky watching. A nice outside fire and a few solar lights made it so you could get around at night. Our 18 year old said this was his favorite thing about a week long trip to some amazing national parks and two nights in Las Vegas. If you are okay with a rugged experience, you should not pass up an opportunity to stay at the Grand Canyon Ranch and Outfitters!
The cabins were cute, very clean, and the beds were nice. The owners were friendly, helpful, and fun. It was a great night. You have a view of the Grand Staircase - Escalante mountains from the porch of the main building. The sky is dark and a great opportunity for star gazing that you will never have in most parts of the country. The (almost 2 mile long) driveway is not paved, but it is flat and straight and we had not trouble whatsoever in a rented mid-size 4-door sedan that was very low to the ground. There is a lot of family history on this ranch and it was fascinating learning about the life they lead.
- Erin (10/5): True ranch experience! - We stumbled upon this lodging option during a recent family vacation and absolutely loved every minute of our visit. We got to know the owners, fell in love with the ranch (and the dog CICi!), and the entire experience. The food was exceptional and would definitely recommend making a dinner reservation. This is not a luxurious place to stay. It is a true cowboy ranch experience. Our cabin did not have electricity so we showered and went to the bathroom in the bathhouse which only added to the fun experience! We also enjoyed making s'mores by the campfire. A definite thumbs up all around!
- James (10/5): - A great rustic starting point for our trip in the mid west usa
- Susanne (10/5): Overnight on a ranch - We were on a motorcycle trip and arrived rather late - dusty and sweaty from the road. Had initially a bit off trouble finding the place (do not use current hotels.com address), but then smooth sailing. After 2 miles on a dirt road with a heavily packed BMW R1150 we arrived and were welcomed by Debbie. Hot shower first in the bathhouse, then short stroll prior to sunset. Debbie wipped up some impromptu tacos that were divine - we were too tired to drive back to the next steakhouse 10 miles away .... Bring your own beer or wine or ... Gret experience.
- Ernesto (10/5): A superb experience. You shouldn't miss it. - A great experience in a true ranch in the wild west of the USA.
Debbie is a great host. Makes you feel at home.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great place to disconnect. - There is no electricity, or bathrooms in the cabins. Glamping at its best. Restroom facility has electricity and showers. Site side fire pits with lots of seating, perfect for star gazing where the stars are brilliant and clear. Wonderful off the map place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay. This is a unique place. A working cattle ranch. Our only problem was the lack of a bathroom in the room. Being "old" people , we get up to use the bathroom in the night and it is not good to have to walk accross a small parking lot to the bathroom. Otherwise, our stay was positive. The food was excellent and the staff was great. The quiet at night was also great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice place to stay if you enjoy camping - Rustic setting, very nice people, great food. Close to Grand Canyon North Rim. Great place for kids to run around. Beautiful sunset.
- B (10/5): Simplistic cabins in right off the Great Escalante - If you want Cowboy, you will not be disappointed. This is a rustic, but extremely charming ranch outfit where you will get your own cabin. The cabins have no electricity (light), running water, or toilet facilities - those are in the wash-house.
The stars and silence at night are breath taking!
Don't miss out on the home cooked dinner! The breakfast is made for cowboys, including bet bacon EVER!
- Linda (10/5): - We loved staying on a working ranch close to Zion, Bryce, and the North Rim. We were served two home cooked meals while learning about local life. This is a rustic setting, not a typical motel. Gorgeous sunsets and sunrise.
- Belinda (10/5): Nice working ranch experience! - Exceptional hospitality with spectacular views. Good home cooking in a ranch environment. Staff very accommodating. Easy drive to Grand canyon. Varied flora and fauna of N. Arizona.
If visiting the area would definitely ask to stay here again possibly in a working mode. We were there just for a night stay.
- Mr. & Mrs. Vargas (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at the ranch. Debbie from the start made us feel very comfortable and was always prompt to any of our needs. She served a hearty breakfast which was delicious and also provided dinner just in case you came back from the road hungry. Note: dinner is NOT included, she provided it because she was nice.
The bed was comfortable and the the room was cozy. Although there was no electricity in the room, they provide a lantern which does its job. The room also doesn't have a TV but in our case we didn't need one, because having a place to rest after long day of hiking was plenty for us. The bathroom is also not in your room but the bathhouse is close by and clean.
The perfect ranch experience if you're nearby.
we totally recommend it, and we would stay there again.
- Angela (10/5): Rural Northern Arizona Experience - Stayed in a beautifully decorated, historical cabin on a working cattle ranch that has been in the family for 7 generations. Ate dinner from Dutch oven with cowboys in main house while listening to stories about how life on the ranch has changed over the years. Squeeky clean bathhouse with all amenities. Campfire under a star filled sky before retreating to private cabin with clean, comfy beds. Full breakfast in morning with endless cups of coffee on main porch. Hard to leave peaceful isolation. Not a hotel- an experience that brings you back to the beauty of rural northern Arizona. Looking forward to returning in the winter for horse driven sleigh ride.
