Guest Reviews
- Agata (7/5): -
- Jodie (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff
Their mascot Zeus Ants in room
- Hannah (10/5): - Easy parking, quiet location. Rooms were clean and cozy. Heather and Steve were kind and welcoming. Couldn't have asked for a better getaway, and for a fantastic price too!
- Filip (10/5): A true timeless inn experience - What an experience. Felt like staying at grandma’s, with the most cozy bed. You can feel the place’s history seeping through every single item. Atmospheric & beautiful!
- Ethan (9/5): -
- Mcgough (10/5): - The family that runs the place are amazing nice people. Nothing
- Tate (10/5): Very cozy stay! - Very homey! Nothing!
- Felder (9/5): Convenient and friendly staff - Very cold in my room despite the heater. Wasn’t sure how to turn it up..
- Jamie (10/5): Convenient location, beautiful interior - The closeness to Belleayre is unmatched! The decor is so unique and beautiful, like a museum. The owner and his daughter are really nice. The owner restored the entire place himself! Truly amazing. The restaurant was closed for renovation unfortunately, would loved to have tried their breakfast!
- Yannick (10/5): - Great little inn with a lot of personality, super close to Belleayre, we will be back!
- frank (8/5): Unforgettable experience. - This is by far the most eclectic inn at which I have ever stayed. There are no words to describe it, other than to say I would go back if they would have me. The outdoor appearance could lend an inaccurate first impression to some.
- William (8/5): -
- Ryan (10/5): -
- Greg (8/5): -
- dina (9/5): -
- Beatriz (6/5): - Personal amable Edificio histórico, pero necesita algunas actualizaciones
- JoAnn (9/5): Considering the building is from 1790 and poses challenges, it was a fun and interesting stay. Would stay again - Location, historical building, funky atmosphere loaded w/ antiques, family owned, kind & accommodating staff, comfortable bed. Lobby a little dusty and a little dank
- Charles (7/5): Good for the money - For the money, it is a good deal. The host was very friendly. Comfy bed, temperature, and room. The place is a bit old and creaky. I woke up with some kind of hay-fever-like symptoms (sneezing, runny nose, and itchy throat). I've gotten it before, but not sure exactly the cause. Probably dust, bugs, mold, etc. and very likely due to something in the room.
- Charles (7/5): - This was a very interesting stay. Only for the historical buffs and rustic type.
Nice people , served our purpose for the overnight stay. Everything was fine! Room was clean and comfortable
- Tom (10/5): Definitely highly recommended - Everything was excellent! Steve the owner cooks an incredible breakfast
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Carlos (10/5): Exceptional - Fresh cooked breakfast. Easy access to bar. Minutes from ski slopes. Fun visitors. Warm room. Friendly conversation.
- Justin (4/5): Disappointing - Close to mountain and laid back Dirty very dirty - fly in drinks dirty. Lock broken
- Marina (9/5): Superb - This is such a lovely, whimsical, warm, and comfortable place! It has the charming atmosphere of a mountain lodge. The staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
Breakfast was delicious and freshly prepared just for us upon request.
- David (8/5): A little tattered, a lot of character! - Idiosyncratic hotel in an 18th century building. The interior decor could be its own antique shop. Very friendly service; almost feels like you're being given a guest room in your aunt's house for the night. The bar and lounge are something you need to see at least once in your life. Could definitely see a Tarantino movie being filmed here. The rooms seem run-down...the entire place needs a (very expensive?) facelift. Musty-smelling in places, water stains on the ceiling, dusty blinds. Bed was very comfortable, though.
- Randall (9/5): Superb -
- Megan (1/5): the only thing more uncomfortable than the room was the owner - I almost don't know where to start. We arrived at 8pm, and it's worth noting that I informed the hotel in advance we'd arrive late evening. There was no signage indicating where to go after coming inside and someone watching TV in the lobby told me to "go find the owner in the bar". I asked at the bar and was pointed to a staggering, slurring drunk older man who seemed incredibly confused by me asking where to get the room key and proceeded to repeatedly ask what age my daughter was. I should have just left right then and there but against my better instincts I was shown to our room.
On top of the room itself being in horrible condition -mold and cracks in the shower, the doorknob to the room was broken and loose and COULD NOT BE EFFECTIVELY LOCKED, one of the beds was an air mattress on a very dubious looking metal frame, there is no wifi and my cell had barely any signal. But the real cherry on top was that using the heat and the light at the same time caused a fuse to blow. We were told this would be fixed right away, and when we left an hour later it had not been. Heat and light are the absolute minimal expectations of any accomodations that can be classified as "indoors".
We packed back up to leave after an hour and as we left I slipped on the poorly maintained staircase, and then packed the suitcase in my car while the owner and a friend sat at the fire pit drinking and loudly complaining that "they b!tched about having the heater and now they are gonna leave". In the morning we found that they marked us as "no shows" on Booking.com.
From the moment I arrived until the moment we left, we felt unsafe and uncomfortable.
- Albert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sebastian (8/5): Very good -
- Laura (1/5): Don’t Go - Nothing The property was extremely outdated, carpet was worn and dirty. We ended up not staying the night. Total nightmare. This property should not be listed on Booking.com
- Michal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Austin (10/5): This hotel is more than just a hotel, it’s a true Catskill experience! - This hotel was a great experience, I felt like family here, the owner and his daughter Heather were super nice and very hospitable, they made sure we were comfortable and made us breakfast in the morning. They had their dog, birds and chickens there which was amazing! This was exactly the Catskill country experience I was looking for and I plan on going back!
- Steff (10/5): Unique and personal in the best way - If you like Character in anything, and a stuffed bear in the lobby, this is a place you should have on your bucket list.
I hope to come back with more time on my hands to do some hiking in the area. At first I thought the mattress was too soft. But then I ended up sleeping like a bear. so... maybe I didn't like my first impression.
- Do (4/5): Underwhelming, chaotic but the bed was cumfyv - Bed was fine . Upstairs was 250 years old. Down stairs was a total mess . Would not eat or stay there . Go there a review it youself
- Андрей (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Relaxing time, good conversation, lovely ambience, great location - Amazing collection of antiques, art, books, sculptures, and more decorating the place. Very friendly owner and neighbors. NA
- Joe (10/5): Exceptional - Such a cool spot. Perfect for a wholesome vibe and to have a few beers downstairs at the bar. The owners, staff, and local friends welcomed us and we had a great time. Very down to earth place.. a classic!
- Frank (10/5): Exceptional -
- Damon (10/5): Exceptional - We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into while winding into Pine Hill on dark roads. But once we got there, we realized it was exactly where we needed to be.
- Jason (8/5): Hidden gem with a friendly staff. - Very nice staff, great hospitality. Cool lounge and nostalgia. Convenient location. Broken shower mixer valve/handle. Still in working order!
- Louis (7/5): Good -
- Perry (9/5): Superb -
- Marcin (8/5): Very good -
- Rathna (7/5): Good - It is very old property but very clean and nice staff
- Sambasiva (8/5): Very good - Run by owner and aged gentleman with his daughter and both were very nice.
- Brandy (1/5): Scam - Location only Holes in roof covered by tarp, musty smell, dusty, buffet pics are a farce. We glanced around and refused to check in. I called Booking.com from my car. I complained to owner in an email- his response was to try ti charge my card.
- Len (1/5): Do not stay here - Room smelled like pee Sketchy overall. Thin walls. Heard people half the night.
- Joseph (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (3/5): Poor -
- Devine (10/5): B&B OF HISTORY - I always like a good time and this place was definitely a great time I played pool with family, and had a great breakfast cooked by Ernie! This place has history every inch you look. I will be back to stay next time we are in the area. Rooms are quiet as well. The staff greets you like if you were family and friends I loved that. And they make you feel at home. That Steve the owner wouldn't sell any of his antiques just kidding! I can't think of anything that we didn't like.
- Christina (8/5): Very good -
- Vbaby74 (5/5): Passable - Can’t beat the location. Right off Rte 28 in the heart of The Catskills. Lots of trails close by. The owner was attentive and looked after every guest. Lots of locals pop into the bar for a lively feel. Dated so it feels like stepping back in time. After the initial reaction, it was kind of cool to look at all the antiques and collectibles. Could use a little love & attention but probably still bouncing back after covid.
- Harold (1/5): Bad -
- Anonymous (9/5): Unique. Fun. Not for all types, but great fun - Funky Cluttered
- Jeffrey (10/5): Stayed one night and had a ball. Steve and his daughter are wonderful hosts and the place is like a throwback of America - Comfortable beds. Eclectic surroundings. Wonderful, kind hosts. Nothing
- Michael (8/5): Very good - It felt like staying with the friend of a family. No A/C or tv in room but the night was cool so no issue.
- Joseph (6/5): Pleasant -
- Melissa (1/5): Bad -
- Reilly (1/5): Bad - Not much. In fact, I did not stay. It is very eclectic and the owner was very kind. This place was just not for me.
- Lynn (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable and warming experience! The hospitality starts as soon as you arrive, even before checked in! Very nice group there. On a personal note we had our dog pass away recently and they had a senior dog that really reminded us of her and was very comforting to spend some time with her there!
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Day (8/5): Very good -
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angus (9/5): Unforgettable - for the right reasons - Superb atmospheric hotel and bar, bristling with character and off-beat charm. Stuffed with antiques, super-helpful owners, bears, birds and beer. In the heart of historic Pine Hill with its faded glories and kindly townsfolk. Different and delightful. There was no easy way to get a cup of tea without asking - we're British, you know!
- Tom (9/5): Superb - The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Unique property in a good location. The breakfast was great and fueled us up for a day of hiking,
- Mariana (9/5): Comfortable unique stay, great location and value! - unique property
- Ed (8/5): Very good -
- David (7/5): Good -
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robin (5/5): Passable -
- Demetrios (10/5): Excellent, great value - Clean, comfortable, rooms were nice and warm N/A
- Mrunmai (7/5): Good -
- Ilya (10/5): great authentic stay! - very friendly and accommodating staff, great breakfast, vast selection of antique items in the hotel so it actually looks like museum place needs renovation but it’s old appearance
actually gives its own value
- Mike (6/5): Pleasant -
- Vladimir (3/5): Poor -
- Hu (10/5): Great thanks - Fantastic nope
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Roberto (7/5): Good -
- Ines (6/5): Pleasant - Not what we expected, out dated but the room was clean, staff friendly and the locals were friendly as well.
- Elisabeta (10/5): Exceptional - the stuff is so nice!!! the breakfast was delicious! heather was super kind and her dad made us breakfast. we will totally come again to stay with them and for sure will recommend for friends!
dont miss the pub on the first floor!
- Blake (10/5): Did not know what to expect, but definitely exceeded our expectations - The location was surrounded by mountains in a cool little town. Loved the area and every single person we encountered was extremely welcoming and friendly. The bar area was awesome with a free pool table. Cant beat it!
- Theresa (10/5): Cozy, charming and friendly stay. A great experience - A place like no other. Filled with antiques. Our room was very clean with a lovely bathroom.
They have a cozy bar to relax at night and the breakfast was delicious! Wonderful and welcoming
- Huong (9/5): Superb -
- Kitty (8/5): Quirky little place - Great location and a place full of surprises. Super tasty breakfast and lovely host The bed was far too soft for us as we sunk
- Jonathan (10/5): A wonderful, unique experience. - Let's get this out of the way right now: this isn't the Marriott, Hyatt or Four Seasons.
Walk up the front stairs and be greeted by two dogs who run the joint. Say hi to a few gentleman smoking cigars and having a beer. Walk inside, meet the owner who points you to the bar, says the first beer is on him, and welcomes you. Drop your stuff in your room. Walk to the bar, and see: stained glass lamps, a suit of armor, stuffed bears, a mounted elk, a mounted deer, plush couches, hotel guests sharing a beer and a conversation, children watching cartoons on the television, a jukebox, a pool table, and so much more. Listen to the regulars talk about the glory days of the Inn, and the owner telling you about the time he fed a bear a chicken wing with his teeth. Don't believe him, until he shows you the photo proving it.
Go enjoy your day, and come back in the evening. The bar and living room are full of people laughing and having a great time. Take a seat for dinner at the buffet, grab another beer, play a few rounds of pool and notice that nobody is in their room. Everyone is hanging out and having a great time together. Laugh and converse late into the night, head upstairs for sleep, and wake up in time for coffee and breakfast.
This isn't the Four Seasons, and thank goodness for that. It's a slice of unique, 45 years strong family-run history. I have plans in the area in two weeks and cancelled existing reservations at a different hotel so I could come back.
- Aluca (8/5): Quaint country inn. Wonderful atmosphere - Colonial Inn is an old building, originally built in 1790. It does show some signs of wear and need for repair, however it is very charming, kept very clean and has home-style buffet dining on premises. The staff were all extremely helpful and gracious. The rooms were very clean. They are not modern hotel rooms, and do lack TV, coffee setups, etc. But I personally found the beds extremely comfortable, the bathroom spotless and the room beautifully appointed with lovely period type furniture, and decorations. There were some rooms that had fireplaces in the room.
If you're looking for a chain hotel/motel, this isn't it. But it is a very charming and delightful inn in a beautiful area of New York. And if you're a dog lover, they have a great welcoming committee!
- Verified traveler (4/5): One night say. - Owner was very nice told us stories and offered a drink. Made us pick the room but rooms were old, not maintain and dirty. The bath room was an experience. It was more like a 30dollar night room. Asked about breakfast and he said that he was not making because it was too early. For 99 dollars it would have been nice to get a some fruit and bread and coffee. Going to sleep the the bar jukebox was playing loud. I would not recommend you staying. Unless you are desperate for a room.
- euphorya (6/5): Country Inn in the Catskills - My friends and I immensely enjoyed our stay in this rambling colonial inn from 1790. The owner Steve is a friendly guy as well as ten of his closest friends who it seems basically live here. The bar area is a terrific place to hang out, listen to the juke box and play pool. The bartender is a lovely local lady. The rooms are fine, but the water pressure is pretty terrible unfortunately. The restaurant Zephyr across the street is excellent. I recommend the colonial inn for easy going folks who like to have a good time.
- melis (2/5): Not recommending - Worst experience i have ever had. Very very awful. We couldnt stay there, we just give money, and slept in the car.
- sultana (2/5): Fascinating - We stayed overnight in the hotel. We were there for about 12 hours altogether. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and if you can get in the spirit of an old, decrepit, filthy hotel run by a truly interesting guy, then try it out. we slept on top of the bedspreads, did not take showers or even touch the towels. On the other hand the owner made us a lovely breakfast of eggs and French toast in the morning. A very homey atmosphere with 2 sweet dogs, cozy couches and a stuffed bear. I've been in hotels from California to Eastern Turkey and nothing was quite like this!
- kcurran (8/5): Super accommodating - Needed a super late check in unexpectedly, called on short notice and the owner was very pleasant when accommodating my needs. Even offered to cook us breakfast earlier than usual because we had to leave early as well! Neat place, great for the price, homey feel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Convinient and Cozy - We were stuck in traffic after a huge accident on the Thruway and called the Colonial Inn to let them know we werent getting there until midnight, they waited up for us and we got greeted by 2 adorable dogs! The rooms were what you would expect and we slept perfectly fine. Early rise at 6 am to hike Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain, so we didnt get breakfast but the hike was great!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not your average B&B - If you are expecting chain Motel amenities this is not the place for you. It is a little run down and cluttered. However, if you don't mind that it is a fascinating place. We arrived on a Monday and discovered that the weekends are when this place hops. We had it virtually to ourselves for three days. IMPORTANT-food is served only on weekends and not just at the Colonial- I'm speaking in the general area! Finding a place that's open that serves food can be challenging Mon-Thurs.
- Saveliy (10/5): Really cool place - Booked hotel in a rush, not knowing what to expect. Figured it'd be a Super 8 sort of thing. Came there, was very pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere/theme in the hotel is really cool - the walls and surfaces are covered in antiques, animal heads, weapons.. place has a lot of character. It seems to be run by a family, and it has a really comfortable and feels really comfortable and friendly. Owner made us french toast and eggs/bacon for breakfast, and there was cereal. The bar downstairs is great to hang out, drink and play games after a day of hiking. Our room was nothing special, but comfortable.
- Monica (10/5): Historic - Cozy Historic town lots of history homely and friendly owner good food and hospitalitY.
- Thomas (10/5): Not for everyone unless you like peace and quiet. - This place is like anywhere else, not for everyone. We loved it and had a great time. We told other couples and it sounded great to them as well. One or two said they would never go because it was too quiet and peaceful. Go figure. We had a great time and will stay again. Steve the owner is an extra nice guy and makes you feel very welcome. No tv in room but plenty of birds singing. It's not a $500/night room so keep that in mind. Again plenty of hiking in a clean peaceful country mountain setting.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This felt more like an old rooming house than a hotel. We had two rooms with an adjoining bathroom. It is an older building. The bar on the first floor is nice if you want tyo relax with a cold drink after a day out in the Catskills. We needed a place to sleep and shower after hiking and this place fit the bill. It's not a luxury hotel so if that is what you need look elsewhere. Wifi worked fine, cell service (AT&T) was spotty.
- Ewa (6/5): Quick stay - If you don't expect much from this hotel you will be fine. We needed to stay here for a night before a wedding and based on other reviews I was prepared for the condition of the hotel. The hotel manager waa polite and welcoming. They provide you with a bar of soap and towels but I would recommend to bring your own. I brought my own blanket as well. The bar downstairs is charming, has a great country western selection on the juke box and serves cold beer. And there are two friendly hotel dogs that will absolutely cheer up anyone's day.
