Guest Reviews
- Heather (7/5): -
- Scott (8/5): - Good location for beach and town centre although man y shops were closed down ..and there were street people about on the high street the swimming pool was ok , a hand rail by the steps would have been helpful specially for children and those more mature on there years or not good on there feet .. The lift is tiny and c old and dangerous ,Lord knows how it passes a safety inspection every year ,the room layout Is a monkey puzzle seemingly randomly scattered about the hotel .. I found a locked fire exit whilst trying to find room .. sadly the spa hot tub was not working ,it looked old and on need of a replacement .. my room was ok bex a little too low ,bathroom was the smallest bathroom ever although there was a separate one down the corridor as like on the old days when rooms didn't have wn suites ... Shower was small and looked elderly and was a mira one known to be useless ... I was not offered breakfast or evening meals even for extra payment .. the receptionist on Monday morning told me off daring to use one of the pens for sale to write out 3 numbers on my railway travel pass ! Also Tea bags in the room were unwrapped should be kept wrapped to keep them fresh and not open to being covered germs from sneezes etc.
- Anton Palaco Correa (7/5): A relaxing stay with lovely sea views and a great location - I had a pleasant one-night stay at the Royal Pier in Sandown. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a lovely balcony with a really nice sea view, which was definitely one of the highlights of the stay 🌊. The bed was comfortable and the overall atmosphere felt calm and relaxing.
The décor throughout the hotel was a little dated and could probably benefit from some modernisation, but everything was well maintained and clean. The location was excellent, very close to the seafront, pier, shops, and local attractions, making it convenient for exploring the area.
Overall, it was a good stay for the price and I would stay again, especially for the views and location. The breakfast selection was quite limited and felt a little underwhelming compared to the rest of the stay. There was not a huge amount of choice available, and during busier times items seemed to run out fairly quickly. A wider variety of hot and continental options would definitely improve the experience for guests staying longer than one night.
I also found there was very little information or explanation provided regarding the pool and leisure facilities. It was unclear where certain facilities were located, what times they were available, or whether there were any specific rules or booking requirements. Some clearer communication at check-in or information available in the room would have made the experience feel much smoother and more welcoming.
- mark (5/5): Comfortable quiet, like being back in 1985. No wifi, no functional TV. Hey ho! it is what it is. - Room was clean, quiet and bed comfortable. No Wifi in the room>amazing in 2026. Swimming pool not open before 7am or after 18:00 so no good whatsoever to anyone who has come to the island to work. Very disappointing. Odd arrangement where people travelling alone can't just sit anywhere in the restaurant. So on the whole, on my, emergency list not my priority list. Shame really, because the staff were really friendly and helpful.
- Gaston (9/5): - UbicaciĂłn, atenciĂłn, instalaciones No hay parqueadero, no hay wifi, los colchones de las camas super incomodos y muy viejos, se les sentian los resortes.

- Marko 62 (10/5): - Like going back in time to a much better time than it is now
- Nicole (8/5): -
- James (3/5): Hell. Didn’t sleep till 2:30 coz of the noise - Location Dated beyond what I imagined
- James (3/5): -
- James (2/5): -
- Saul (7/5): It was a cheap stay and worked for what we needed. - The front-of-house staff were really lovely, polite and engaging. The room was quite dated. The only actual issue was that the window didn’t shut properly and someone smoking outside made the entire room smell which was really unpleasant.
- Shilpa (10/5): -
- stuart (8/5): -
- Kevin (7/5): Good value , great pool - Great pool
Seafront location
- babu (6/5): -
- Gupta (7/5): - The swimming pool and overall stay was good Bed was a bit uncomfortable and I felt backache in the morning
- saqlain (8/5): - Nice and tidy room. Calm environment. Providing a small fridge and microwave can make it even better
- Karen (6/5): Hotel staff were amazing & hotel was spotlessly clean! Unfortunately it was too noisy for us, so sadly no return! - Spotlessly clean, friendly staff. Bed very small, shower was extremely slow.
Unfortunately our room was above a very noisy bar!
- Nicola (8/5): Worth our money, most staff were very polite - It was close to everything we needed The rooms were confusing as not very well signed, to many stairs
- Taylor (7/5): - Hotel was in a good location in Sandown. The evening entertainment was good. Rooms nice and clean, beds made every day. Breakfast was good. Staff friendly. Unfortunately the lift was out of order whilst we were there, so being as we were located on the 2nd floor it was a bit of a pain getting up the stairs after a good night out, also to get the luggage up and down. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon.
- Jyts (7/5): - The location is perfect. Staff go above and beyond. Breakfast was fresh and good variety. No WiFi except at the reception floor. Bathroom is extremely narrow and toilet facilities really need an upgrade.
- Das (9/5): -
- Tazmin123 (1/5): Disappointing - Heating never worked. 2 mornings no hot water. Hairdryer had not been tested which it should be always. Fire alarm kept going off. A coach full who got drunk and kept us away till 12am every night. Could not use the lounge as they filled it up. Very noisy. Ruined weekend won’t stay again Almost everything except staff
- Chris (10/5): - Lovely sea views from our room.
The kids loved the bunk beds, adding to the adventure.
Very good breakfast
Very good swimming pool. It’s not within the hotel staff’s control but there is only day and overnight paid parking directly outside the hotel, but there is free on street parking in close proximity.
- James (6/5): Over all a lovely hotel with exceptional staff - Breakfast was lovely and so was Alex the Assistant Manager.
The location is spot on and very near to all amenities. We chose this hotel for the swimming pool on site but it closes far to early at 18:00. Should be open at least till 22:00.
We had a large double room, which infact wasn't that large in my estimation.
There is no air conditioning and it was really hot in the room, with no way to cool it down. We did get a fan from reception but it was only 2 speed and didn't really do anything
- Louis (1/5): End up leaving because it was discusting room - Nothing, it smelt
- Zahid (7/5): great location and ok hotel - great location and room had a nice sea view. The included breakfast was served quickly although quite a basic presentation of traditional fry up and available in a vegetarian option. no easy free parking and hotel needs some decor improvements/fixes here and there but no major issues
- Puneeth (1/5): Will never return and a terrible experience - Location of the hotel was good Room was terrible, the shower drains were not clean and the water was clogged in shower area. There were no basic toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, handwash were available. We even asked the staff but they simply denied saying they do not provide it. When the water clogged in shower area, we asked for a room change they were slightly hesitant but they changed to a smaller room. Though the room was meant for a sea view, it was not worth as the view was not so great but a tiny glimpse through the window. There was no air conditioning and windows were dirty and not cleaned. Breakfast was limited and they denied to provide extra by saying it is a set meal for one. There is NO WIFI available in rooms, only in lounge reception / dining area with very poor connectivity. No intercom telephone is available in the rooms to contact reception. We always had to walk all the way down to talk to staff.
- BIN (8/5): will recommend to friends - Sandown Seafront ; the location is great !! All good, enjoy the stay!
- Vijay (10/5): -
- Bhavin (7/5): -
- sean (9/5): - Great location and pool
- Spencer (10/5): -
- Ram (9/5): - Excellent location. very close to the Pier and the beach. Clean rooms.
- Holbrook (10/5): -
- Vivienne (8/5): Good value - Has an indoor pool and breakfast included.
Great location close to town and bus route. Need to hire hairdryers and pay extra for hot tub use.
- Richard n Pam (8/5): Tired but convenient location - The room. Large, awesome views & location The place is trying.. But appears tired & overused. Bathmat was filthy. Would have liked to try pool but closed early.
- David (9/5): A nostalgic, welcoming stay with great staff, cosy charm, and a few minor quirks. - Excellent location and fantastic staff — truly an asset to the hotel. The room had a nostalgic charm that reminded me of my Nan and Granddad’s spare room growing up — not modern, but warm, homely, and full of that classic 90s hotel character. It was cleaned daily, which I really appreciated.
The pool and jacuzzi were great bonuses and added to the overall experience.
The hotel is truly unique, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I’d happily recommend it — and would stay again. The only minor downsides were a bit of noise from guests passing by and what I assume were the boilers, as well as the lack of Wi-Fi in the room (which, combined with Sandown’s poor phone signal, meant no WhatsApp).
- Margaret (10/5): -
- allison (7/5): -
- Peter (6/5): - Breakfasts & meals were very good& Good selection & portions Small double we had, was more a single, bathroom was like a broom cupboard and very tired looking.
- Dick (3/5): Average stay - Property is situated very close to shops and the beach, restaurants. Staff was really friendly, accommodating, and well organized. I wasn’t too happy about the cleanliness of the room, the sheets were stained and mattress was quite bad. The bathroom shower was not used as it didn’t looks very clean.
The bed wasn’t very comfortable and something that really bugged me was that there were no block out curtains (due to my job having to sleep when it’s light out that’s important, this is why I didn’t extend my stay)
The lift also wasn’t always available and I’m disabled so made it a bit hard.
- Jordis (10/5): -
- George (10/5): - Absolutely fantastic will definitely stay again Everything
- Shirley (10/5): My first time visiting the island it was a great break with my daughters & grandchildren everything is at hand shops - Easy access from train station, great facilities, we had a family room good size and comfortable.
Spectacular views from our private balcony
Staff were so helpful and always available.
Good size indoor pool, entertainment & really nice breakfast, clean towels (white) and clean bedding. If anything the mattress on the double bed was very saggy & dipped in the middle
- Debbie D (8/5): Great - Great location
Good breakfast
Staff great Needs blackout curtains in room
- Sonia (6/5): - Proposes in good location. Bed was too small. Double room bed wasn't enough for 2 people
- Sonia (7/5): -
- Sonia (7/5): -
- Milan (7/5): -
- Jenifer (6/5): I liked it but I don't know if I would go back - the location was not bad in front of the beach
- Andrea (5/5): - Sehr gute Lage Unterkunft sehr abgewohnt
- Angela Sung (8/5): Convenient location but needs some renovation and thorough clean - Location is perfect. Close to Sandown beach and bus station if you want to go to other parts on Isle of Wight. Breakfast included. Also close to Wildheart Animal Sanctuary. Room is comfy. Can hear the waves at night. Bedside cabinets are old and the paint is peeling off so as the wall. Shower head and tiles in bathroom can be cleaner. No security chain in the room so basically anyone with a key can open the door from outside which is quite unsafe. You can fill you belly with the breakfast but don't expect more. Milk and butter were placed on table too early that butter was melting and runny and milk not even cold. Swimming pool only open from 8am-6.30pm and should open till at least 8pm. Lift is old with a gate.
- Joanna (4/5): Don’t waste your money! - Pool and location are the only positives. Firstly, the WiFi wasn’t available at the rooms. When I’ve asked lady at the reception she said with a smile that they don’t have to mention this on booking.com. Secondly the bathroom was shocking. Bed uncomfortable and the cleanliness wasn’t great. There wasn’t any spoon available in room to strip your coffee or tea. In the bathroom no proper hooks and space for the towels to be hang on. TV very small.
Paying just under ÂŁ230 for two nights I would expect much more than that. Ridiculous!!
- qaiser (7/5): -
- POTTS (4/5): - Location TV was broken. Reported upon arrival. It was never fixed. When I told them again on the evening of the second day they said they couldn't get it fixed and offered to change our room which would have been very disruptive. I shouldn't have had to chase it up. We were paying ÂŁ116 per night and should expect to have a TV for the weekend. The manager could have offered a part refund or some other gesture, but nothing was offered.
- Lowe (8/5): -
- Steven (5/5): Great staff , very clean , noisy and smelly due to bins ! - The staff were on point very happy in their work! The bed was uncomfortable, small room , and the smell of the bins directly under the window was quite off putting and the noise at 5 in the morning as people putting stuff in the bins woke us up both mornings we were there ! The whole place is clean but extremely detached from present day …. Lives in the 80s !
- Mandy (9/5): -
- Susan (10/5): Lovely weekend break - Great location, comfortable room, nice breakfast, lovely staff. Thank you for a lovely week end.
- Stephen (3/5): Frankly if I'd seen another hotel with room locally I would have left. - Location great, breakfast passable but limited. The hotel is old and tired and should be retired.
- Carl (9/5): Historic hotel in prime location with friendly staff. - The excellent seaside view is worth the extra. The indoor pool was lovely. No air-conditioning so on a hotter day you might want to use a fan, but my august stay was fine. Tall Victorian ceilings help.
- Katrina (10/5): Over night stay at the Ryde royal pier hotel - All the staff were friendly and helpful.the location was perfect. The hotel was clean and had a nice atmosphere. Breakfast was very good and a great choice. Everthing was amazing so can't complain about anything.
- Vasilka (7/5): - Overall good one night stay. Not enough appliences in the room.
- Solomon (4/5): Royal Pier experience - The staff was brilliant, very helpful, and very kind. The room felt very outdated, and I was quite surprised to find the sink inside the room rather than in the bathroom — it's hard to believe this setup still exists in 2025. The price seems too high for a room that looks and feels like it’s from the 1980s. The lift is extremely old, which was quite surprising. Also, for a double room booked for two people, we only received one large towel and one small towel, definitely not what we expected.
- Kathy (10/5): -
- Laura (7/5): Great place to stay, good location, great food and friendly staff but no wifi - Location, big rooms, friendly staff No wifi except in lobby
- MOIRA Egle (7/5): - Il fascino di un albergo anni 50 in stile inglese

- JPESP (6/5): - Pool was nice after a long day walking, water didn't seem very clean though. Tea and coffee provided in room. Staff nice enough. Location very good. Room was dated, bathroom very dated and small, bed uncomfortable. Dinner/breakfast arrangements not to our liking (dinner served 18:30-1900, breakfast 08:30-09:30). Everything was with a deposit (no hairdryer in room, needed to leave a ÂŁ10 deposit to have one), towels for pool would have been ÂŁ1 rental each if we didn't have our own.
Onbijt matig alleen engels ontbijt. Wel keuze en vega.
- Shiyon (8/5): -
- Isabel (9/5): Good comfortable stay by the sea front at Sandown. - Friendly welcome, room had a sea view. A comfortable bed. I enjoyed a swim
In the pool.
Full English breakfast was very tasty. The signing on the corridor to my room wasn’t clear as to where the room was.
- Sakimov (10/5): -
- Heidi (4/5): For what we paid, I’d rather stay somewhere else. Or pay extra for comfort - Tricky question to answer. The property itself is a very old building, large & spacious but it’s old, tired. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. One of our beds had a wheel missing so it was at a slant. The shower was not hot - zero pressure, both taps on the bathroom sink was scalding hot.
- Holly (5/5): Tiring. - Big rooms, friendly reception and catering staff Very tired look and feel to the entire hotel, and our room was right opposite a lively Irish bar, which was incredibly clear and loud sounding through the closed window, contributing to poor sleep. We didn’t stay the second night as intended and moved to a different area that was less touristy and more peaceful. Breakfast had all the elements there but seemed like budget produce had been used.
- Paul (4/5): It served a purpose for my trip, but never again. - Nice location on the sea front. Staff were great and it was okay from a comfort point of view. A pretty good breakfast. No parking and a hotel stuck in a time warp! Expecting Basil Fawlty to jump out at any time, and reminded me of walking into my Grandmothers lounge back in 1976! A very, very tired and outdated hotel in desperate need of a facelift to bring into the 21st century. A wonderful view from the window, a bathroom straight from the 70's and the worlds smallest TV in the room; what's not to like! A worn-out, exhausted hotel in my opinion. Good job there are the holiday coach trips keeping it afloat. Sorry, not sorry; only saying what I saw and how the whole place made me feel. I'd never stay here again to be honest.
- Pawel (9/5): - perfect location for sunbathing clean facility, very friendly staff
- Rachel (8/5): -
