Guest (5/5): Okay but could have been so much better with just a little care and thought. - Beautiful building. Spotless bathroom. Good location. Friendly staff. The approach to Emig Mansion was hard to spot. No welcome signs or signs for parking. The public entrance looked unofficial, untidy. Poison ivy was overrunning the steps. Sheets and towels were clean but cheap and skimpy. We were expecting breakfast after reading the rave reviews for the lovely breakfast but were told we had not paid the extra so received just the continental breakfast. This was disappointing but obviously our own fault for not paying more attention to the actual booking. The bathroom was clean but the bedroom floor was not. It would be nice to have information about the house and its history written somewhere for curious guests because the 2 staff members we met were obviously busy and we saw each one only briefly. There was no opportunity for more than a short tour of the rooms and facilities.

Bryan (5/5): Lovely historic setting inside, neglected grounds and exterior outside, disappointing breakfast - Mansion interior is beautiful and and in fair condition My booking included breakfast but a hot/fresh breakfast was not provided. Apparently the host did not know that my booking included breakfast and said we needed to specifically request breakfast at an additional cost. I think there is a communication breakdown between us, the host and booking.com, resulting in us not getting a fresh breakfast we thought we had paid for, and the host insisting the problem was our fault. The mansion exterior and grounds are very neglected. The neighborhood surrounding the mansion is part industrial area and part run-down homes. This wouldn't be so bad if the mansion grounds were better maintained.
Nichols (5/5): - The mansion itself was nice. The grounds were nice Abandoned cars around the property. Breakfast is not included in a place that calls itself bed and breakfast. They want $15 per person extra, which is ridiculous. There was some black hair all over the bathroom which I've experienced in every hotel. I go to all my life. No matter what the price. The porch was cluttered. Mosquitoes all over the place because of standing water. The parking area needed a trim because of poison ivy. Room was nice, but in the attic, so the ceiling was slanted.So, you bump your head. They claimed to be almost all booked, but there was hardly anyone there and no one had breakfast to my knowledge.So it's not a lot of value for your money.There's other places, we only picked this place because it was three miles from the wedding venue.

Bruce (9/5): Exceptional hosts in an historic mansion with a stunning interior. - So many positives! The host family is lovely and helpful, and Lori created masterful breakfasts. The interior is stunning with period architecture and gorgeous stained glass panels. The room was cozy, just enough room for 2. Drawbacks included Booking.com promising included breakfasts as Genius+ (which was a lie), but the meals were worth the extra amount. The exterior needs sprucing up, though we were assured the constant rain since the beginning of May has delayed the exterior upkeep. A very pleasant stay, and we would stay at Emig Mansion again!

Kirsty (6/5): Good to experience the old historical home. - Clean, fantastic host and fantastic breakfast. Room could have been cleaner. Had to change the sheets as they were badly pilled. Needed a heck of a good vacuum. I was cold in the bed.
Voxdoc (8/5): A Pennsylvania mansion starting up a second life as an inn - This is a mansion with wonderful beauty on the ground floor. The room we stayed in was nice. We prefered an en suite toilet and shower rather than the one we booked where the private bath was one level up from the room. The original room was wonderfully decorated. The host offered us either room. The shower and water flow were good. Internet connectivity was outstanding. Relaxing on the main floor with an elegant dining room, a sitting room and a large family room were a transport back in time. The sun shining through the windows was gorgeous. Communication with the innkeepers was outstanding. They were easy to reach and responded quickly. They cooked up a nice home breakfast. There is a lot of potential here that the inn may reach at some point. There is an audible leak from one of the 2nd floor showers into the wall on the ground floor leading to a bit of mustiness and might be a big project to repair. Google leads one to the front of the home on the main street where there is no entrance. The back entrance lacks some of the elegance of the interior. It was a bit difficult to heat the room with the portable electric heater, both to find a place to plug it in and use it and it kept switching off after 15 minutes or so, so difficult to use at night. We did get an extra blanket the next night and it was pleasant.
Laura (6/5): B&B with only one B? - This a beautiful old mansion. The indoor areas are well-kept. Rooms are pretty and the owner seems nice. Kids were welcome to this place. The outdoor areas are in need of update. When we got there, we were immediately told that the breakfast boxes are in the fridge. As I tried to ask about it, I got two different answers: They don’t serve hot breakfast at all or that the owner couldn’t serve it because she had doctor’s appointment. Not sure which one was true. The boxes were far from breakfast we were expecting. So if you are a breakfast person like us, might check the breakfast status beforehand! The rooms have no locks and they get easily chilly. Only one room had a heater. It seems that the owners had other things on their mind than hosting guests as they told they are moving abroad.
Daniel (10/5): We started our new year off in a mansion. - Our host was very personable, she made us feel at home. The property had plenty of parking. The room was very comfortable and we slept well. The house was a great combination of history and comfort. I like the fact that someone is restoring those great pieces of architecture.

Andrew (4/5): Disappointing - Location. A dog was loose within the house and barking when we arrived. Throughout the hall and stairway, there was a pervading smell of dog. The mattress was covered with a plastic protector which afforded an uncomfortable night. Prior to arriving, we were notified that staff would not be available to greet us or to provide breakfast (for personal reasons). We were offered a $25 refund in lieu of breakfast which has not been refunded so far, despite us reminding the owner via Booking.com.
Kim (10/5): A Historic Gem that I will visit again. - The home was beautiful, so full of history and detail. I arrived after dark and left early the next morning, I will go back as I want to stay in the different rooms. The breakfast was so unexpectedly delicious and the caretaker was the best. It took me a minute to locate the driveway.
Barbara (10/5): We would definitely stay here again. - What an awesome mansion. Owner upgraded us to the Master Suite. Our last name is Emig so the room was called the Emig Room. Room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. Breakfast was awesome. Owner very delightful and had an hour and a half conversation on history and military history. Nothing was disliked.
Favorite (6/5): This is an interesting historical location, which was fun to learn about. The room price was very reasonable. If the smo - We just stayed for a stopover en route to a wedding. The hostess was friendly and welcoming, and the room was clean and well stocked with towels, extra blanket, nice soaps etc. The mattress was uncomfortable for two adults ( we are not big people) and we met in the middle. Smoke alarm was beeping all night.
Sharon (10/5): We had a great time, met some new friends there, and loved the history of the mansion. - The mansion is beautiful with period furniture and a lot of history dating back as far as 1810. Our host, Lori, makes a great breakfast and had great stories to tell about the Emig family and the mansion. We appreciated to homemade blueberry scones in the afternoon. Nothing.
Robert (3/5): very poor - poor location, unkept grounds, bushes almost blocking the entrance. Breakfast consisted of packets for each day left in the in-room mini fridge. The packets contained cheese, apple juice (both okay) plus stale dated yoghurt and some dry biscuits.
Georgette (10/5): Anniversary weekend - Everything was exceptional from meeting Lori, Cora (her German shepherd) and Aiden, sharing stories learning the history, breakfast, Lori's recommendations. We honestly can't wait to come back. It's like we reconnected with an old friend. The house is calm and peaceful. The interior design was wonderful. The shower was incredible. Honestly I could go on and on. Definitely stop by you'll love it. And remember the house is old there is no elevator!!! I liked everything!! There are NO complaints.
Jaime (10/5): Beautiful mansion, great food, and delightful proprietor - Emig Mansion is absolutely beautiful. I stayed in Room #7 Sarah's Retreat. It was cozy, and I had my own bathroom. It was very quiet, probably because an older home like this has thick walls. I slept well. The wifi access was excellent. I paid the $15 for the breakfast at 8:00 am. Lori, the proprietor, served the breakfast on time. It was a lot of food, and it was delicious. She asks about food restrictions and preferences beforehand, so I was confident I could eat everything that was served. I ate breakfast at 8:00 am, and I wasn't hungry until about 3:00 pm. This was perfect since I was spending the day researching at York County History Center. Also, Lori was extremely friendly and hospitable. I loved talking to her, and her son was friendly too. They made me feel like a member of their family, which is a plus for people who are traveling alone. Lori warned me that my room might be a little cold. A fan was left on to take out some of the humidity. I was a bit a cold, but I was too lazy to get up and turn off the fan. So, that was a "me" problem.

Ashley (5/5): Met the need, but certainly will not stay again. - Room was spacious and well appointed. We had enough room for our things and the private bathroom was nice. Room was musty and moldy smelling - both my husband and I began coughing almost immediately after stepping into the room. Everything is extremely dated, and there are large signs of water leaks etc. Additionally, there were dogs on the property staying in other rooms - other guests were up in the middle of the night with the dogs, and yelling in the hallways. Impossible to sleep. I've also never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast - where there was no breakfast. The sign in the room said breakfast is at 8am, we were up, ready and nothing. For the price paid, we certainly could have gotten a hot meal. Instead, we had to drive into downtown York and wait for breakfast there.

Nancy (8/5): It might be the most interesting place we have stayed! - The box breakfast was good (yogurt, croissant, juice, jam, hard-boiled eggs, etc.), but that's not what I expect from a B&B--knew what it was when I booked, though. Lovely room. Very comfy bed. Nice to have a coffee machine in the dining room and always available. Nice snacks. No plastic--we travel a lot and are appalled at the plastic left behind, in spite of our best efforts. Interesting house and grounds, though it looked haunted when we arrived in early evening! I had to email a couple of times to clarify since it was self-check-in and a bit confusing. It wasn't clear where to park when we got there, and we had to move the car. No big deal, but a sign would have been welcome. No one there to welcome us, but we knew that ahead of time, too. Only time we saw the owner was when we were asked to move the car. Would have been interesting to know the history of the house. No cups in the room. I went down and got coffee cups from the dining room. I appreciate the lack of plastic, though. Salt for the eggs would have been nice, and I would have loved a toaster oven for the croissant. The microwave just doesn't do it for me!

I’ve only stayed there for one night on a work trip, but I got to enjoy the outdoors with a coffee in the afternoon, an amazing home cooked breakfast and a lovely chat with the owner. The room was exactly as pictured, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was so cute! It’s a real bed and breakfast, you feel home and welcomed. A unique property that’s worth a stay!
Bethany (10/5): Great! - Lori upgraded us since we had our son with us, which was so nice! It was really nice for my husband and I to be able to sleep in a king bed! The shower was also really nice and clean! Only thing I would suggest was a couple more wash cloths 😁

I was robbed by staff. I received a charge for items placed in a basket which I believed were gratis. $50 for dollar store items.

Peter (6/5): Interesting old manor with character but could use some modern amenities to make it more comfortable - The mansion itself had charm and great potential I feel the owners did not take advantage of the potential of the mansion. The property needed some upkeep and the rooms themselves needed some updating and TLC. I found the mattress uncomfortable and cleanliness of the room could have been better. There were some dead flies on floor and window sills. There was hair on the floor and in the bathroom. It is not my personal preference to have a sink outside of the bathroom, separate from the shower and toilet.

Nicole (10/5): Quiet, restful weekend in lovely York, PA - I liked the very friendly but not overbearing hostess/innkeeper who offered suggestions and advice on all we asked of her but was not forward in any way. The inn and property were truly beautiful and we could have taken advantage of the beautiful spacious common rooms more than we did. Innkeeper asked if we like “dogs” then let out a behemoth of a Sheppard. Luckily we had zero fear of dogs or this may have been a problem. Also, booking . Com said breakfast was included but it was not. I did not check but I am 99% sure this was an error on booking’s part. They do that

Vineeta (10/5): - This historic 1850 mansion was a chance to step back in time, but with modern conveniences such surreptitiously tucked in. The breakfasts were so sumptuous and hearty that we did not need to eat again until late in the afternoon. We were served on dinnerware that made me feel I was playing a role in Downton Abbey (but American style!). The host Lori had all sorts of interesting local lore and history to add and made the breakfast that much more enjoyable. Recommend this highly!

Lisa (2/5): skip this property and go for a hotel. - The common rooms seemed very pretty. There was parking although the lighting was not good at night. The driveway was very difficult to see I passed it a few times before I found it. The lighting was not great but I eventually made it to the room I had been told I was going to book the room that I booked through Booking.com. I was informed when I arrived that the plumbing had broken and I had been given a different room on a higher floor. The room was cold and damp and small. It had a sloping roof which I hit my head on at least five times even though I am quite short. All in all very disappointing. The staff did their best to accommodate me but it just wasn’t good enough. In the room itself the carpet was stained the wallpaper was peeling the shower smelled sour. It was called a hide away but I would not describe it is such. Also no closet or full length mirror. I was expecting a hot breakfast and was informed that for my discount rate I wasn’t entitled to that. given my downgraded room I might have expected that as a gesture of apology for the inconvenience. That was not offered. I did cancel my future stay there and the staff promised to refund my fee. I booked a hotel in the area instead and would not return to this property.

Lots of snacks, drinks, and books and games available to keep you occupied and the breakfast was amazing. Felt like I was in a 5 star restaurant. Don't hesitate to stay if you're looking for accommodations in the area.

Kathleen (10/5): BEST STAY EVER!! - Lori is amazing!!! she kept us fully informed before our arrival, welcomed us with a beautiful smile , prepared a wonderful homemade breakfast which was waiting for us in the dining room when we woke. The food she prepared was delicious and so beautifully presented. We had an amazing conversation at breakfast with Lori, and though we were late getting to our event, it was only because she was so engaging and the conversation was beautifully flowing and happy. My sister said it was the best trip she has ever been on, and we only stayed one night, wished for more. The house is gorgeous, beautifully decorated and the grounds are lovely! We can't wait to go back!! EVERYONE SHOULD STAY HERE!!! I didn't like that we had to leave
Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful house - Loved it. Beautiful house and very well kept. The food was great. Laura, the owner, is super friendly and looks out for her guests. We had an amazing time. Our room specifically had pros and cons. Pros: top floor so no one walking on your head. Private shower/bathroom. Fridge and microwave. Snacks and other useful items provided. Very comfortable and adorable. Cons: Because it's the top floor, they were small windows at floor level (still let in a lot of light). Small shower which was fine for us but might be tough for some. I'd stay her again for sure!

No one to greet us at check-in and no personal contact with anyone until morning of departure. Contactless check-in email instructions were helpful but lacked precise location of room (i.e. 1st room on right) and room was not clearly marked Poorly maintained outside landscaping. WILL NOT RETURN AGAIN!!!

Christine (8/5): Lovely mansion, outside a work in progress - Lovely mansion and lovely host. If you do not like to "socialize" with the host, this is not the place for you. We enjoyed our breakfast conversations with other guests (only one other couple with us) and the host/host son. I wasn't crazy about the food served, though I am picky and like basic items. However, I do not travel to B&B for the food. The only other couple in the mansion were in the room next to ours. Conversations could be heard and when their overhead light was on, it lit up our room through the transom window above our door. I didn't feel as though I had much privacy for those reasons. The outside landscaping was being worked on when we were there (around the pond)

Jose (10/5): Romantic weekend Escape - We had a wonderful time! We took a short weekend away to celebrate our 35th Anniversary, and Lori, our host ,went above and beyond. Emig Mansion is beautiful and welcoming. We asked for suggestions of things to do and she emailed us , with ideas , prior to our arrival. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning and it was very comfortable to sit in the common areas to just read or chat with Lori. Without hesitation, we wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Emig mansion. We plan several visits back to enjoy this B&B in the different seasons.

Elyse (10/5): Stay in a gracious lovely old mansion - Our stay at Emig Mansion was lovely. Just out of York by a couple of miles. Upon arriving Lori showed us around the historic old mansion. It was furnished beautifully. When booking you get to chose the room you want, each is named. There are cookies and muffins as well coffee, tea, and water whenever you want a snack. You can stay down in the living room to chat or pickup a book to read in the library or play a board game. The resident cat will enjoy your attention if you want to give it. With quite a few guests in the house it was still quiet. The owners serve a fantastic breakfast starting with fruit in their beautiful appointed dining room; complete with china and crystal. Lovely grounds outside to roam around as well. Lori read a letter from the last Emig lady that lived in the house. The letter made you feel like you were there visiting at the turn of the century about their civil war days. You can't find a nicer place to stay.

Ed (8/5): Wonderful experience - This place is amazing! The mansion is almost a religious experience. My wife compares it to the “cottages” in Newport. The breakfasts were also excellent. My only caveat is that two of the rooms share a hallway bathroom which was not the best. Broken tiles in the floor, and an old fashioned tub with no hand holds which could prove very dangerous to an elderly person. Go for one of the rooms with a private bath!

Phil (10/5): Exceptional B & B Hotel - The Emig Mansion is an exceptional place to stay if you're visiting the York area, less than 1 mile from exit 24 on highway 83. When you're not familiar with an area it can be challenging to find a place to stay where you feel safe and are comfortable. Think of the Emig Mansion as staying at your friend of the family's home while in the York, PA area. Lori and Bill who are the Innkeepers will make you feel as if you have known them for years. Doug (10/5): Very Accomodating - Very nice place. When we found that the cruise on which we were embarking would be delayed two days they were able to allow us to change our reservation. The mansion sits on a hill overlooking the road. Parking is plentiful. The breakfast was delicious.
