Guest Reviews
- Jim (8/5): Ecellent location for visiting this part of Cornwall and walkable from station - Sea view from restaurant and from room. Staff very helpful, Evening meal good and reasonably priced with good selection for breakfast including fresh fruit Windows rattled in the strong wind and were draughty; bathroom somewhat dated.
- David (8/5): Good location but overpriced and tired property - Good location and 15 min walk from station Very tired looking, needs updating! Furniture not good! Overpriced!
- Susan (8/5): -
- Tessie (10/5): - The staff, the restaurant, the location, private and quiet location of our room. The wonky route to our room, but you can't change that.
- Alexander (6/5): Great staff, good breakfast, OK place - Location was amazing, right on the seafront, great views A little bit tired, as usual with vintage hotels soundproofing could be a lot better
- Chris (6/5): Ideal location for coastal walks - Location is very convenient with easy parking It’s very tired and no pride by the owners to present this well as it could be lovely.
- Howell (7/5): See abov - The hotel has many virtues. it's situation is superb. The staff are very polite and helpful, it is kept very clean and the food was reasonably good. In particular, breakfast is excellent. As has been commented on by others the fabric of the building has seen better days and is badly in need of an upgrade and modernisation. As it is family owned I guess this might be an unaffordable expence in these difficult financial times but it has the potential to be a really excellent place to stay. See above
- Wolfgang (7/5): -
- Jill (8/5): Very comfortable - Restaurant excellent- I had two lovely meals
- Elizabeth (9/5): Overall an excellent stay a very restful holiday. - Fantastic room with lovely sea views.
Very good breakfast.
Wonderful staff
Great place for a solo traveller Stairs to room.
No walk in shower
- 440philipo (10/5): An absolutely excellent seaside hotel - I have just come back from a three night stay in Penzance, and at The Queens. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is an absolutely traditional seaside hotel, in the very best sense. The public areas are beautifully maintained, including magnificent staircases and a reading room. The glassed veranda overlooking the sea is a great place for a nightcap.
My room was very comfortable, with a great bed and good shower.
The breakfast offering, again in the dining room overlooking the sea, is possibly one of the best I have come across. Cold meats and cheese on the buffet, with high quality orange juice. The cooked breakfasts, made to order, are many and varied. I had really good kedgeree (not something I have come across recently in many hotels) and absolutely excellent eggs royale.
And, last but by no means least, the staff. All the staff I encountered, from reception to the breakfast people were so friendly and nice. A special shout out to the young man serving behind the bar in the evening who was so charming and engaging.
Well done to all. Now that I have discovered you, I look forward to returning.
- Adrian (9/5): -
- michael (5/5): - Staff, food menu, restaurant. The bar, the room,
- Robert (6/5): Well placed, friendly hotel that needs some TLC - Location excellent. Good food and service Lift didn’t work and a lot of stairs to climb. Tiny bathroom, leaking shower and curtains not drawing well.
- Carol (8/5): A very enjoyable stay and we look forward to returning - The food was excellent. The Reception helpful and effective. The room with sea view was impressive. Everything fine
- Lyn (10/5): The cosy, gorgeous bedroom upstairs made our stay more special. - We were struggling to find accommodation in Penzance in the middle of town that had parking and was reasonably priced. However, moving around to the promenade, which really isn't that far from the town centre, provided everything we had hoped for. It had good onsite parking, a substantial cooked and continental breakfast included (order off the menu) with tables overlooking the promenade and sea (right on the waterfront), and charming historical decor. Our twin room on the second floor was the best surprise - it was gorgeous. It was clean, beautifully decorated, had a big bathroom, plenty of space and a gorgeous bay window overlooking the promenade and sea with views to St Michael's Mount and Newlyn. We spent the late afternoon sitting in the armchairs in front of the bay window enjoying the views. Comfy beds. It was an easy 5 minute walk to the Lugger Inn, where we had a delicious dinner. The hotel also has evening meals. The foyer is another cosy area to sit. There are a few stairs to navigate with suitcases but the 2 of us could manage - often found in historical buildings. There are quite a few stairs from the carpark but you could walk around to the front of the hotel to avoid them.
- 868edwardj (10/5): A must stay! - First time in this hotel a family run business, it’s a hotel full of character and run by experienced professionals who make your stay very special, some rooms have a sea view and are very comfortable and clean, there is a lovely restaurant with sea views and a bar open 24hrs for residences. The food is excellent and the breakfast is made to order with lots of choice, the hotel is dog friendly my friends are I were very impressed with our stay the staff are so nice and helpful nothing is too much trouble I would recommend this hotel as it’s so central to the town and there is a car park at the rear with an electric charging point. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone at the Queens hotel for a fabulous stay.
- Gwella (10/5): Peaceful and gracious hotel with excellent breakfast and close to amenities. - The hotel is very genteel and traditional with a very comfy bed in the sea view room I booked. It was so peaceful as well and during the night there was just the sound of the waves lapping the shore with the rise and fall of the tide. There was a huge bath, most unusual these days (with shower incorporated into it), and tea, coffee, hot chocolate all perfect for a night's stay. The breakfast was very good with many different hot choices as well as continental style choices and cereals, and fruits, pastries. The staff were wonderful and so helpful and friendly, and especially helpful when I was there as the lift was temporarily out of action but nothing was too much trouble with carrying luggage. The foyer is beautiful with a sweeping staircase and it is a lovely, old and gracious hotel which has exceptional views over Mounts Bay (from my room) and only a few minutes walk along the seafront to the Pier for the ferry. I would definitely return if needed one day and cannot praise it highly enough. Everything was great.
- Sally (9/5): Excellent - I would stay there again - Location was excellent with lovely sea views from the dining room
The bed was very comfortable
Staff were very pleasant and helpful
There was always a staff member on duty
The breakfast was excellent The lift was not working - but a staff member was available to carry my case up and down the stairs
There were quite a lot of stairs to my room - I would request a room on a lower floor next time
There was a little step up into my bathroom which was clearly marked but I kept forgetting about it and tripping
The loo paper was rough and there were no tissues provided and no little snacks in the room
Very minor inconveniences - overall everything was great
- James (7/5): - The position, car parking, EV charger, breakfasts Common parts need updating.
Lift not working
- Tao (5/5): A good hotel let down by poor service - The hotel is located by the sea, which makes it convenient for seaside walks and relaxing by the coast. The room was also spacious. The refund process took far too long — more than three weeks — and it was extremely exhausting. Moreover, following the front desk staff’s instructions, I waited in the hotel lobby until 4 pm to check in, only to be told that the room had still not been cleaned. Overall, the service was very poor.
- Rankin (10/5): -
- Eileen (10/5): Beautiful, comfortable, clean hotel. - Warm and very comfortable. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I had the best bath ever, with an unlimited supply of very hot water, in the cleanest of bathrooms. Lots of original Edwardian and Victorian features. Unfortunately, despite the staff's best efforts, the lift was out of order. However, without hesitation, their staff carried my heavy bags upstairs on arrival, and downstairs on departure.
- Nicholas (8/5): Great seaview bank holiday visit - Lovely seaview hotel in a lovely seaview town.
The room was perfect - offering a view of Mounts Bay. The cooked to order breakfast was delicious. The hotel is a great location, within easy walking distance of the town centre and charming Newlyn.
- Carol (8/5): -
- Alison (10/5): Great location for exploring Penzance and local areas (St Ives, Newlyn, Mousehole, St Mubarak Mount). - Very close to Penzance central area, sea view, close to the rugby ground, clean, lovely staff, yummy breakfast with lots of choice, quiet areas (reading room), and also close to other seaside areas (St Ives, Newlyn, Mousehole, St Michaels Mount). Nothing
- matthew (10/5): Perfect, location, staff and pricing. - The hotel was perfect for what we wanted. The hotel staff were exceptional, Lucinder went above and beyond to make our stay perfect.
A massive thank you from us.
- Dominic (9/5): -
- Tsvetomira (5/5): Too expensive for what you get - Excellent location, free parking, good sized room Very very old, in a desperate need of refurbishment, there's a lot to be wished about the cleanliness of the rooms. Long wait to get some breakfast served (individual order) unless you get it at 7.30am
For that money - too expensive
- Manuel (7/5): -
- Karin (10/5): -
- Jeremy (7/5): - Love the old
Fashion style, huge ceiling heights. Some might say dated but I love the character and sash windows. Evening restaurant staff were hit and miss. Evening Food was average.
Breakfast was good.
- Margaret (9/5): -
- Pamela (9/5): - Reception staff very helpful. Room clean and comfortable
Excellent breakfast
I love the chair fabric in the lobby - very imaginative!
Also the craft market! The sink in my room was not completely rinsed out after cleaning; the reception staff explained why; and all ok.
A bit of a struggle with cases but an old hotel.
- Christian (9/5): -
- Eglionna (8/5): -
- Angelika (8/5): -
- Hazel (8/5): Always my first choice hotel in the area. - Sea view comfy room with large bathroom. All spotless
Extensive decoration and repair to hotel since my last stay.
Looking very smart Breakfast was somewhat disappointing.
Food choice good but buffet items not replenished.
- Nigel (9/5): -
- James (7/5): -
- G5MPpaulh (2/5): Appalling attitude from reception staff. DIRTY Smelly entrance lift & halls. NO Privacy blind to Enormous bathroom wind - Minus 1 would prefer NO stars. Decrepit, Dirty, smelly first impression on entering. Decided we could NOT STAY here after bathroom window with NO courtesy blind/ curtain. Frosted glass BUT on inspection from outside figure visible. THIS was the turning point. Left to find alternative. EXTREMELY lucky found exceptional hotel further up the coast. Queens is TOTALLY misrepresented on line. Rang up on return home receptionist states will give FULL REFUND just needed agent who used booking for com. Less than 24 hrs later SAME receptionist states NO REFUND will be given . Refused to explain further. She finally JUST HUNG UP. No excuse for Good MANNERS they cost nothing. Arrogance ignorance and condescension merely SHOW how UTTERLY DISINGENUOUS this property is. I have contacted my CC company to reclaim my refund. THIS HOTEL IS A DISGRACE in dire need of remodelling AND DEEP CLEANING.
SHAME ON you QUEENS
- Judy (8/5): Comfortable and great location - Location excellent. Comfortable lounge areas and room. Staffing levels meant that in the evening it was always a long wait to find someone to serve a drink at the bar. Service in restaurant also very slow. Staff were friendly but with an additional person serving in the evenings it would help enormously.
- Elisabeth (8/5): -
- Alfred (9/5): -
- Hilary (6/5): Comfortable and adequate - The bar area was very pleasant and the staff were very friendly and helpful The room although quite pleasant was looking a bit tired
- Christiane (10/5): - Very friendly service, cosy room with excellent view, very good breakfast selection. A perfect stay ... Nottingham..
- Marion (4/5): Disappointing - would not stay there again. - location My room was on the third floor beside the lift and a fire door. The lift was used constantly at night, past 11pm, with a loud ding each time, people talking and the fire door banging.
Dinner was very poor - dry and tasteless
- Peter (8/5): -
- Q9727WHjacquelinef (10/5): A lovely Old Fashioned Hotel which gets the basics right - The Queens Hotel is a lovely hotel and has guests who return year after year. My Sister and I stayed in an accessible room which was huge and close to the lift. which was great. Our room and bathroom were spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfasts are made with quality ingredients and there is plenty of choice. WE really enjoyed our stay as the staff were very helpful.
- Jonathan (8/5): Great location to stay in Penzance - Hotel is in a great location right on the sea front looking out across Mounts Bay Room was very warm even in early April and with no air conditioning would be very warm in the summer
- Louise (10/5): Smashing old school seaside hotel - Really lovely staff
- Mathew (10/5): -
- Elisabeth (8/5): Very pleasant overnight stay before taking ferry to the Isles of Scilly. - Good location, beautiful view, helpful staff No
- Philip (10/5): Excellent - Excellent breakfast ….helpful and pleasant staff…. Surprised to see mould on sealant between wall and bath ….unsightly and detracted from a pleasant room …..I did report it but has it now been cleaned up?
- Mike (8/5): - Very good selection No lift to my room
- keith (10/5): - Good
- Terrence (10/5): Wonderful hard working staff, clean room lively breakfast, The wife and I couldn’t wait to stay again. - Beautiful building, steeping with local history, wonderful sea view, totally relaxing and warm. Nothing
- AlexPeal (6/5): Great view and lots of potential - We booked to stay here last minute as we had returned from the Isles of Scilly early due to a problem with the boat. Being frequent travellers to Penzance we have often wondered what this hotel would be like and had read the full mix of reviews. However for convenience and lack of other options we gave it a go this time.
The hotel has its own free car park which was a bonus and my wife and (grown up) children walked along from the Scillonian whilst I collected the car. I was at the hotel first and so checked us in which was relatively easy. For some reason we were asked to say what time we wanted breakfast the next morning - not sure why as when I said 8:30AM I was told it was busy then but we could have that time anyway.
We had booked two sea view twin rooms which were some walk from reception. Clearly there is a lot of renovation work happening at the moment as we noticed a number of rooms that were being refurbished as well as corridors which were being repainted. The hotel does need this as the current decor is very old fashioned.
Both rooms had great sea views I we were pleased we had paid the extra for this. The bed were clean and comfortable and the bathrooms ok also. However the attention to detail was lacking - in one of the rooms the curtain was half falling off the track and the shower barely useable. Luckily there was also a hand held shower attached to the bath taps that worked ok.
We went out for dinner and on returning bought a drink to take up to the room. The wine was nice and served by a very friendly barman. The decor of the bar itself was also very out dated and could do with a refresh.
We tried to log into the wifi but the free version was very slow - about 1 mbps. It is possible to pay to upgrade to better wifi but the 4g was ok. We found it quite strange that a hotel would charge for decent wifi in 2026!
We came down for breakfast the following morning for 8:30AM and the restaurant wasn't that busy. We took a seat by the window which had a great view of Mount's Bay (albeit the glass had a big crack across it). Initially the service was very slow and it took 10 minutes or so to be asked for our drinks order. However once the order was placed the food came quickly and was very good.
Overall our stay was ok. The alternative was driving to a Premier Inn at Hayle or Camborne. These would have been cheaper but less convenient and would not have had the great sea view. We would stay in this hotel again but having stayed at other places in Penzance would suggest that some of the smaller B&Bs or pubs are better value and maintained significantly better.
- Pamela (8/5): -
- andrew (10/5): -
- BUSH (8/5): Very good will certainly come again - Excellent friendly staff
Good food
- vishwadeep (10/5): Comfort, love, care, great location - Everything was perfect
Staff is caring, welcoming and lovely. Made our travel memorable and comfortable.
And locations is the best.
- U9595DPmichaelc (10/5): A seaside hotel worth using - A very pleasant old-fashioned hotel on the seafront. Staff welcoming and helpful. Rooms clean, comfortable and quiet. Restaurant menu interesting. Cooked English breakfast very good indeed with top quality ingredients.
- Liam (5/5): Friendly, helpful staff, in an old hotel. Breakfast was good, but the rooms felt “institutional”. - Location and breakfast Rooms and vibe came from 1950s
- Nick (8/5): -
- Souvik (9/5): - Staff was really courteous and room was as promised. Limited options for breakfast.
- mrbU5230GU (10/5): Easter lunch with family - Had a wonderful Easter lunch with family, seven of us including 3 year old. The hotel made us very welcome, the food was wonderful and service and friendliness excellent, nothing was to much trouble, would highly recommend lunch have been for lunch a few times and the food and service always first-class.
- Eric (9/5): I will stay there again. - There was a good choice on the breakfast menu. The location is not bad There was nothing that I didn't like.
- Colin (8/5): -
- michael (8/5): - breakfast was good, but should have chosen eggs benedict, next time I will. nothing springs to mind.
- Lawrance (9/5): An excellent 3 night stay - Very central for Newlyn and Penzance, a short walk to the train station.
Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked.
Staff were friendly and very helpful
- Roxy (8/5): Convenient and clean and comfortable; an easy choice! - Lots of options for breakfast and the sea view from the dining room is wonderful. I could hear people in the corridor very clearly, but it’s just the age and style of the building.
- Sarah (7/5): Hotel in bester Lage - Ein schönes historisches Hotel in bester Strandlage
Sehr gutes Frühstück und zuvorkommendes Personal Leider hatte ich in meinem Zimmer einige Speckkäfer besonders am Bett.
- how's (7/5): - The sea view, the friendliness of the staff, and the quality of the food in the restaurant. Lots of small flights of stairs. The room was "tired", and the whole hotel needs lots of work. Directly on the seafront but no double glazing! The shower went from freezing to very cold but the hot bath tap was boiling.
- Jacqui (8/5): Comfortable stay with a sea view. - I had booked one night in a standard twin room on a deal that gave me 25% off. At the last minute I needed to book an additional night. I was able to do this quite easily on the same deal and was even moved to a room with a sea view. The room was very clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. I understand that this was early in the season, but there seemed to be a shortage of staff. There was only one person serving in the restaurant in the evening and the same person was also running the bar single-handed. At breakfast on the second morning of my stay there was only one member of staff again to manage a busy breakfast room.
- bigdaz107 (6/5): Cold room and slow service ! - Had a one night stay after a Cornish pirates rugby game, I stayed in a single room which was not great . The curtains were hanging off the rail , furniture had a very tired look to it and all the walls were damaged with terrible marks . The bed was clean and comfortable also my room was very cold . At breakfast the service was very slow , the food was cooked to within an inch of its life !. I was fully aware this hotel was a vintage style hotel but felt it was very under staffed and could do with some simple maintenance !
- Daphne (10/5): Good value in a great position by the sea. - Room warm and comfy, position of hotel is excellent, breakfast good, will hopefully be back for a winter late break later in the year. N/A
- Anthony (10/5): Had a wonderful stay here. Would definitely book again. - Good central location in Penzance. Very nice room with a view and lovely breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful. Parking at the hotel can be difficult when busy.
- Tony (8/5): -
- Stephen (1/5): -
- Mary (10/5): Wonderful we enjoyed our stay - On the beach Need a upgrade
- Nicola (10/5): -
- Vanessa (9/5): Fantastic Seaview and outstanding breakfast - The room was very big
Outstanding views
Amazing breakfast
Friendly staff Not enough hot water for a bath in morning
- GWils (7/5): Nice friendly reception staff, good car parking, nice hotel, just breakfast let it down. - The room was clean and spacious.
The breakfast was a disaster, I waited over 20 minutes, firstly to be acknowledged and sat down then I gave up waiting to have my order taken and left. There was barely 10 other people in the room. As above with the shocking breakfast service, and lack of a breakfast. To be fair there was one lady having to do everything, I wouldn't of been surprised if she was actually cooking the food also.
- Weronika (7/5): -
- firesign90 (10/5): Perfect - All staff were great. Food was great! Loves my huge room with 2 windows facing the sea.
- Ripaux (10/5): - Le charme désuet , la localisation Personnel pas très attentionné
- Venita (10/5): Beautiful idyllic peaceful calm - Excellent breakfast choice including vegetarian. Beautiful location with sea views.
- Elizabeth Jane (10/5): Nice hotel, well cared for. Recommended. Friendly staff - Nice friendly hotel. Good breakfast. Single people always get the back rooms with views of the dustbins. All hotels do it.
Just get sick of seeing bins on holiday.
- Amos (8/5): -
- mike (10/5): - Stay was good nice hotel lovelly view from breakfast room enjoyed my night there
- Angela (8/5): Great stay would definitely book again - Warm comfortable atmosphere. Excellent breakfast. Great value for rate. Lovely big room and huge en-suite with bay window overlooking the sea. Stairs from back car park to reception very difficult. There is a stair lift for disabled/older guests. We are middle aged and able bodied but still found the stairs hard especially with bags/cases
- Helen (10/5): Relaxed stay with lovely food - Beautiful sea view
Excellent food
Superb staff Nothing
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Walter (9/5): Stopover in Penzance - Cornwall. - Historisches Gebäude direkt am Meer. Ruhiges Zimmer. Sehr freundliches Personal bei Check-in/Check-out. Sauberes, funktionales Zimmer. 15 Minuten zu Fuss vom Bahnhof Penzance (direkte Züge mit Great Western Railways nach London bzw. Crosscountry nach Edinburgh, usw). Gutes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis (Buchung kurzfristig in Nebensaison). Englisches Frühstück inbegriffen. Schöner Raum mit Blick aufs Meer. Restaurant für Nachtessen im Haus. Fürs Frühstück braucht es sehr viel Geduld bzw zeitliche Flexibilität.
