• Stuart (8/5): Excellent location for safari - The location of Elephant Trail makes it an ideal choice if visiting the national park. We arranged a 4 hour morning safari through the hotel prior to arrival and it was excellent- comfy seats in the jeep and an experienced driver. The hotel staff were all polite and looked after us very well. They are a credit to the hotel. The pool and dining areas are comfortable and clean but you definitely need your insect repellent, there are a lot of flies and bugs as would be expected in such a rural area. We had a triple room on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the pool area. The rooms are a little tired and there are a few things that could use a some maintenance (bathroom door lock, sink plug). The doors onto the balcony have gaps all round and did not lock but the air conditioning worked well and we didn’t have any trouble with bugs in the room. The back of the hotel overlooks a beautiful field and we arrived as the sun was setting and saw a couple of hornbills fly over and land in a nearby tree. We stayed half board and enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners very much. Dinner was a set menu with a couple of choices for main course. This is a friendly hotel in a great location and we enjoyed our stay there. Small maintenance issues but nothing major

• Tom (10/5): Perfect stay to visit Udawalawe National Park - We were very well looked after by Nadun, Indunil and Nirwan. They provided attentive, generous hospitality and organised a Jeep Safari and visit to the Elephant Transit Home for us during our stay. They even provided a takeaway breakfast for our 6am visit to the national park.

The price we paid was quite high for the area and we would expect it to be much cleaner. The breakfast was very disappointing. • Emilien (1/5): Désastreux - Proximité avec le parc Nous avons trouvé des cafards dans notre chambre… après l’avoir signalé, on nous a changé de chambre mais il y en avait encore… Le petit-déjeuner vous est proposé après le safari, mais vous n’êtes pas informé que ce n’est pas inclus dans la chambre, et il vous est ensuite facturé. Il y a beaucoup de bruit la nuit, il s’agit probablement des grenouilles qui se baignent dans la piscine. Le repas est bon mais vous tomberez malade.

• Samantha (10/5): A wonderful stay in nature with an amazing safari - We loved our stay at Elephant Trail. The property is in a beautiful location with views out over nature. Everybody who works there is wonderful, and very helpful. A big thank you to Nadun and Indunil at reception, and to the excellent team in the restaurant. The property is clean and friendly. We ate lunch, dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and all of our meals were exceptional. I’m a vegetarian and there was an excellent variety of choices for me. We had a fun time in the swimming pool, and the hotel arranged our morning safari. It was amazing! We saw elephants and a crocodile and monkeys and loads of birds including hornbills, kingfishers and bee eaters! Wow, what an incredible experience. Thank you everybody, Elephant Trail has a lot of heart and soul. Highly recommended.

• Anujah (6/5): Okay stay to go to a morning safari. - It was an okay stay, we mainly needed a location close to the Elephant safari park. They gave a great takeaway breakfast. A bit of a budget friendly hotel that is great if you need to go to an early morning safari. Room amenities can be better.

• Manijeh Nan (8/5): Lovely Short Stay - I had a lovely stay. It's perfect for 1 night. I arrived in the early afternoon and was able to enjoy the afternoon swimming and eating lunch at the swimming pool. In the evening I went to the elephant orphanage feeding and early the next morning I did an elephant safari, which is quite close by. They packed a breakfast for me to take on safari. Dinner in the restaurant was also good. The room was large and had a fridge. Everything was great, especially considering the reasonable price. It's true there are some insects, but it's in a nature reserve, so it is to be expected.

The outdoor areas were bleak and unpleasant, nothing like what the photos suggest. The so-called cocktail bar felt fake and added no atmosphere whatsoever. Food at the hotel was of very low quality, and there are no decent restaurants nearby – only other hotels with similarly poor standards. The only positive part of the stay was the safari in Udawalawa National Park. Apart from that, there is nothing to do in the area, and we ended up leaving the hotel earlier than planned. Overall: low standards, poor hygiene, misleading presentation, and not worth staying at. I would definitely not choose this place again. Elephant Trail Udawalawa was a huge disappointment. • Veronique (9/5): Clean and convenient for safari - Very convenient for 2 nights before/after safari. Close to park entrance and they organised our safari (they partner with Niluka Safari company) with a great guide. I also asked them to arrange our transport from Mirissa the day before and to Ella the day after. Easy and no problem. Good and timely written communication in the app. Nice pool after a hot safari day. Wide selection of Western and Asian food at the restaurant, convenient to have this on site because the hotel is a bit out of town and we didn’t feel like going our again, good rice & curry and leave space for the incredible banana fritters ;-) It’s a bit run down, missing plugs (has to use the TV plug) and you can hear your neighbours snore through the balcony doors that don’t close fully.

They arranged our tour with Niluka Safari. Saw an elephant right across the road from the hotel and more down the road when we went for a walk. Our room was very spacious and had everything we needed. Unfortunately we didn't get the chance to use the swimming pool. The food was really good at the Elephant Trail restaurant. Nirwan was an excellent waiter. His english was excellent, very knowledgeable and helpful with everything we asked him about Sri Lanka. 
• Bradshaw (8/5): - Both the staff and the location were excellent. Friendly staff from the moment we arrived from the front desk to the restaurant, attentive and engaging. Special breakfast on leaving was a treat. Bed was OK, sri lankan standards quite normal. Also the shower was average. Overall gave us the rest we needed for our fabulous safari.
• Jiri (9/5): - Hyvä sijainti, erittäin avulias ja mukava henkilökunta. Matkustimme kaukaa ja saavuimme myöhään illalla, Illallinen saatiin järjestymään vaivattomasti keittiön suljettua. Safari oltiin myös järjestetty aamuksi sekä late check-out järjestyi.

• Vanessa (9/5): Very good - Everything was good, we had a great time. The door to the bathroom couldn’t be closed, so mosquitos could come into the room because of the open windows in the bathroom.
• Anu (10/5): Anu - Hotelli oli todella viihtyisä ja kaunis, Henkilökunta oli ystävällistä. Varattiin hotellin kautta puolihoito ja safari, kaikki toimi täydellisesti. Aamupala saatiin safarille mukaan ja se oli järjestetty todella hyvin.
• Nikkie (8/5): - Friendly staff, good breakfast. Overall very good price/quality ratio for this hotel. We also really loved our safari guide for udawalawe Park, which we booked through the hotel. The rooms are 1-3 floors up and there's no elevator. No issue for me, but for people who are less mobile, this could be a problem.

• Tim (9/5): - Nice location very close to the park entrance and directly next to the park. Using their bikes is a fantastic way to ride next to the national park and see some animals such as monkeys and elephants already from the outside. The food options are plentiful but not amazing in quality. The bikes could use a service, they are quite shaky.

• Holly (10/5): - Welcoming and friendly staff, very caring and even offered to go to a shop and get some medicine for me when I was feeling unwell. Great facilities, very close to the national park meaning you can get a head start on your safari and the food was delicious.

• Sophie (6/5): Perfect for what we needed and good value for one night to do safari. - The property was very clean, spacious and staff were and attentive. We wanted to relax I’ve a few drinks in the bar before dinner but there is no bar area to relax in. You could relax around the pool if it was dry but it lashed rain while we were there. Just a small detail really.

• Vithanage (9/5): Easy to find and good location. Staff was very helpful. - I like the staff, they were very helpful and the food was good. The location was very convenient. We had a good time there. The location.
• Damien (6/5): Location is great but needs a refresh. - The dinner was delicious and the location meant we could get to the entrance quickly. The room was old and tired with mould in the roof of the shower. The fan was so thumping loud it kept most of us awake all night.
