Guest Reviews
- Dr. (8/5): A valuable asset that must be preserved - I enjoyed my stay at the Hills Rise Edwards Hotel. The place has a charming view of Lake Gregory. It is a villa that dates back to more than 100 years and was employed to be a rustic boutique hotel that can be called the horse house, as all its decor and pieces of art reflect the extent of the owner's passion for horse racing,
I really want to thank the housekeeper Mr. Kasuntha deshan, for the kind welcoming and the chef Mr. Rons for preparing a special gluten-free food for me. The hotel needs major maintenance at the level of rooms, furniture, painting, mattresses and bathroom flooring in order to maintain its historical value.
- Basith (10/5): Pleasant Experience - High Class Service and Very Clean and tidy property
Beautiful Place
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This is to advise you that we were utterly disappointed with our stay at Hill Rise by Edwards Collection.
• Driving to the place, it took us over an hour to find the address, as the address given was 79 Dumbula Road, whereas the actual address is 33! There was only a tiny hidden sign post. No one answered the phone and upon reaching, they did not open the gate for 15 minutes, despite honking the car horn in the rain.
• Polite but utterly incompetent Manager and his helper/waiter, who was about 20 years old had no clue about service. I had to help
• The place is nothing at all like the photos; photos and website descriptions were completely misleading. Photos taken by fixing mirrors to extend the views/size. Only one house with 4-5 rooms in a line off a corridor leading straight to the kitchen. As a result the whole place had constant cooking smell.
• Could not stay in the bedroom because of smell. The bedroom had no views, no TV or phone in the room. There were blood stains on the bedroom carpet. Bathroom door would not close. (I have photos to prove) Smelly towels, blankets and pillows
We would not have accepted all this, but we had no choice at 6-7 PM on a rainy evening and no way to contact the owner, who presumably lives in Colombo and has left the property/guests at the mercy of the incompetent Manager
- David (2/5): Avoid - looks good but it was awful! - We spent more money to get a nice 5 star hotel but were massively disappointed, at best a 3 star property.
Looks good but all ends there!
- check-in was a struggle, no information was provided without having to ask for it
- there was no key to our room, the door remained unlocked throughout our entire stay despite asking for a key
- no information in the room and some services not available as advertised e.g. spa facilities or mp3 player
- room was damp, walls, carpets, bedding - all damp and smelling bad (very wet weather but still)
- fire place and firewood but a fire wasn't allowed. Only a small electric heater was provided
- breakfast choice didn't exist, after a fruit bowl you could have only sausage, bacon and egg
- room service items repeatedly not available but on the menu
- nothing around, close by restaurants are of low standard
Don't get my wrong, the place looked lovely and the staff did try very hard - it just wasn't up to the price and 5 star advertised.
- Verified traveler (2/5): TERRIBLE!!! - Google Map
