Guest Reviews
- Josephine (1/5): - Lovely staff Mold in the aircondition which caused me to get sick and a owner that didn't care
- Curtis (4/5): Beautiful location but not all inclusive as advertised. - Beautiful location and staff were friendly. Safari’s were excellent. This is a full board property not all inclusive. If you go expecting to get drinks as part of the package you don’t. The food is only chicken or white fish also and come 8pm the place is a ghost town, no vibe or atmosphere. False advertisement on all inclusive
- Ashley (8/5): Enjoyable Stay! - It was my birthday during my stay and the staff went above and beyond to make my day as special as possible! The rooms were the nicest we experienced in Sri Lanka. The AC worked well, the shower water was hot, and the bed was comfortable! I really enjoyed the food they served. Great for a quick stay before and after a full day safari. The free treatment and massage were lacking. Not enough pressure but it was free with our room so I can't complain. I do think the price is a little expensive for what you get but I enjoyed my stay.
- Henrike (9/5): Superb -
- Sturrock (8/5): Very good - The Location Hotel was overlooking a lake.
Staying there was a good experience There was no option to have
ala carte meal on New Year's Eve, so we had to go out for a meal.
Which wasn't ideal but we had no choice.
The reason was that there was a special dinner organised for 31st night.
We found the beds to be far too low, I have a replacement knee and found it difficult getting up out of bed!
- Hub (8/5): Okay stay for one night - Upgrade, friendly staff Slightly outdated room and packed breakfast for safari wasn’t great. Beverages were way too expensive.
- Mirko (10/5): Amazing - Nice and friendly staff, relax and beautiful view
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Ruth (9/5): Lovely, quiet place and perfect gateway to Yala - We only spent one night at Thaulle Resort, as it is the perfect starting point for a safari at Yala National Park, but our stay was lovely. Staff welcomed us warmly and our room was spacious and beautifully designed, especially the bathroom. As we were in need of a few relaxing hours, we spent some time in the pool and garden by the lake. Dinner was delicious, especially the homemade coconut ice cream. We can also highly recommend the safari that was organised by the hotel. Our guide was very knowledgeable regarding the park and happily answered our many questions about the animals, especially elephants.
- Vaibhav (9/5): Superb -
- Sarel (10/5): Absolutely brilliant. Will definitely stay at Thaulle Resort again. - Absolutely everything. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom was spacious and comfy. The view of the lake from the balcony spectacular. The food from the restaurant was delicious and well presented. The hotel is also close to 3 national parks. We loved the Thaulle Resort and left with heavy hearts. Will definitely stay there again. Nothing
- Shomeresh (10/5): We were expecting a hotel with a gorgeous view of the lake, but what we got was so much more than that. The unique decor - A tranquil setting by the lake, with decor heavily inspired by local artwork and buddhist influence, the hotel offers you more than just a beautiful view it’s a full sensory experience. The secluded location could be a drawback for anyone looking to stay longer than a couple nights.
- Amir007 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): perfect for a quiet getaway - the staff was super friendly, very accommodating to all our needs and wishes (snack pack, late checkout, upgrade, flower decorations for dinner and in the room)
- Lawrence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shreya (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect.
- Dimantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): Luxury hotel in a stunning setting - A beautiful hotel in a gorgeous quiet location with gardens and rooms overlooking the lake. This was our treat stay while travelling round Sri Lanka and it didn’t disappoint. We were upgraded to a superior double on the 2nd floor and it was luxurious, with huge glass doors leading to a spacious balcony. The furniture and fittings were attractive and good quality. Fantastic bathroom with endless hot water. our first in Sri Lanka!
Swam once in the pool which is a very generous size, unfortunately the weather was often rainy so not too many opportunities.
All the staff couldn’t do enough to help, the lovely girl in reception, waiters and cleaners. The eating areas are open sided with views of the lake and garden. The food itself was excellent, nice touch for the chef to come round to the tables and chat
We did a Yalla safari and a very good packed breakfast was made for us
Altogether, highly recommend this hotel. very good for birdwatching too, so many on the lake! Nothing, it may be a little isolated for some, but that was part of its appeal for us. Tissa is a short tuktuk away
- Wanaphorn (9/5): Superb - We booked the room last minute, We got upgraded for a better room😍 The manager “Shawn” was really nice and helpful. Superb staffs and well trained. We had amazing time there. Will definitely go back! If u want to stay somewhere around Yala u shud book this place, worth all the money. The place has such amazing view of the lake but also tons of mosquitoes, still worth it tho.
- Neranga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ren (9/5): Superb - Everything, the food the stuff and the style The mosquito is everywhere
- Hazel (10/5): Exceptional - We had an amazing two night stay at Thaulle Resort while visiting Ayala National Park. It is an extremely beautiful hotel with very helpful staff and great food.
- Amir (10/5): Exceptional - beautiful hotel on the lake. everything was great since most of the people who stay in the hotel go to safari very early in the morning it would have been a good idea to
have late brakfast. packed brakfast was also good
- Shaswati (10/5): Exceptional - They excel in customer service and are willing to go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Everything about the property was perfect. One of the best stays we had in a long time. And yes don't miss their amazing breakfast. Special thanks to Shawn for making us feel at home every step of the way. We highly recommend the property.
- Lloyd (10/5): Best hotel experience in Sri Lanka! - We have stayed at several hotels on our journey through Sri Lanka so far and this one tops them all!
The team are the most genuine & hospitable we have come across. From the pre-arrival communication with the FO manager Shawn to the service, maintenance and houskeeping team, everyone has been incredible.
Executive chef and other members of management visiting the tables at breakfast & dinner was a really nice touch!
Great facilities and treatment area which unfortunately we did not have time to experience, small gift shop, lovely pool and certainly one of the best views of Yoda lake you will find.
They offer different therapy packages which we were unaware of before arrival. The guests appear to naturally come together and share the experience which we really liked to see! Joining eachother in the restaurant, we almost thought they were one big family!
Be sure to take a superior room with a large balcony looking out to the lake, you will not be disappointed.
Thank you to all the team for such a memorable experience, we will be sure to spread the word and we will be back!
Lloyd & Stef
- Florian (8/5): Very good - lovely hotel rather expensive
- Katie (10/5): Lovely, relaxing family run hotel where they really go out of their way to take care of you - Beautiful view of Yoda Lake, with regular sightings of eagles, hornbills, peacocks and even a croc
Lovely friendly staff - who came across as one big family
Amazing Ayurvedic treatments
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional -
- Meghan (10/5): stunning views, stunning grounds, delicious food. - The location next to the lake was stunning, the resort is within 15 minutes of Yala national park so it was perfect for our safari. The staff were very helpful and friendly in helping booking with our activities and provided a packed breakfast for a safari which started early AM. We got a free room upgrade which was very much appreciated. the food was delicious, especially the Sri Lankan curry. The massage we had was incredible so definitely book this! overall staying at Thaulle Resort made our holiday experience in Sri Lanka a great one and we would highly recommended staying here. Shawn especially made us feel very welcome. nothing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stunning view - Amazing location, fantastic views, extremely attentive, long day on the road so greatly appreciated the room upgrade, thank you.
- Flavio (10/5): - We received an immediate upgrade on arrival and found the room amazing with beautiful views of the lake.
We had excellent room service as well as a superb breakfast buffet.
The indoor/outdoor pool was extremely convenient and the staff extremely helpful and welcoming,
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s a nice hotel and we got upgraded to a superior room. We did find dinner could have been better with over cooked checked and other dishes were a little bland
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A quiet and beautiful small hotel with stunning outlook onto Lake Yoda which has resident pelicans and cormorants. There are many individual features and breakfast was served to order, including toast. All very lovely.
- Akiko (6/5): - Health conscious food was great. Pool area was nice. We were disappointed that all Ayurveda treatment was fully booked for the days we stayed. We recommend to check if the treatment is available or not before you book a room.
- Ann (10/5): Tranquility on the lake - Thaulle Resort is an tranquil and beautiful spot. The view of the lake is stunning and the staff lovely and attentive.
- Verena (10/5): - It is a beautiful hotel, clean and neat. Service is great and staff is very helpful and accommodating
- Christian (10/5): Fint hotell - Fantastisk
- Mike (8/5): Quiet, laid back hotel in a great location. - The No Name Rest is in a great location only about 200 metres from the Unawatuna Beach. Also it is off the very busy main road so quieter than a lot of places in the town! John the Australian owner/manager is very friendly and helpful. The service and breakfast were a bit laid back but OK.
- Ken (10/5): Chill Out At Thaulle Resort - Marvellous stay at Thaulle Resort, which is convenient for both Yala and Bundala National Parks = both of which are amazing.
The Reception team were very friendly and check-in straightforward.
Our room was not large but comfortable, with a great view over the lake. Decor was tastefully style, verging on the cool.
Thaulle Resort also hosts a spa which many of the guests used and there is a very chilled atmosphere.
The food was great and fair value - excellent curries and Western options. Dinner is outside in a romantic setting. Wine is expensive compared to all hotels that we stayed in = some 5 star.
A fair sized pool but in a lovely setting and never.crowded. It was never a problem to get a sun bed in the well planted gardens.
In summary a relaxed, tasteful, boutique hotel with great staff and a very pleasant atmosphere. I do not hesitate to recommend..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was lovely and had a really nice 'feel' to it with the lovely peaceful surroundings
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was nice but a little out of the way. Even though food was fairly good we weren’t really able to try other restaurants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is an amazing place. Everything is superb. Would highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room service closes at early time 11:pm compared to other hotels which is 24/7.
Room was clean, however, many insects where there so they should put something to keep away those insects.
We where couple and they offer us two single beds sticked to each other which was horrible.
Breakfast fast was very very limited.
Our building is up to 4 floors and there were no elevator.
Welcoming was good stuff were friendly.
Nice lake view.
Dinner food was average.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was my wife's birthday and when I mentioned it to the hotel staff, they went out of their way to help us celebrate... From chilling a special bottle of champagne we brought with us... to organizing an amazing birthday dinner and celebration for us. They really made it a special time for us!
Facilities and food are fantastic too!
- christine (10/5): 3 night stay - Just lovely...can't recommend enough. We had a beautiful room and bathroom with a view of the lake. Dinner served outside under the mango trees was a delight - gorgeous!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super views. Will come again. Close enough to Kataragama.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The King Suite was beautiful with a top view of the lake. A complimentary foot massage was divine. The food here was excellent: all a la carte, spicy, and delicious and dinner in the garden was simply delightful, especially as there were no mosquitoes. Thanks to the staff for mosquito sticks at every table.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel with beautiful view! The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and everything sorted to make our time their enjoyable. Special dinner in the evening was brilliant, good fun for our honeymoon.
- waldo (8/5): - we checked in and staff were unusually nicer than one would expect, this continues for the rest of the afternoon , was very strange.
over dinner we were watching people have these wooden boxes on their tables with their names on them... again this is werird. turns out the hotel had attached to it some kind of wellness/spiritual centre where people book in for weeks at a time to have some sort of spiritual cleanse, the boxes had medication in them.
I didnt feel threatened by it at all, but i felt this should be kept seperate from the hotel, the staff and people from the retreat were walking around like they were high on life , the doctor from next door was present at dinner talking to patients etc.... i knew something was up when we checked in.
anyways that should be all kept seperate in my opinin, hotel itself was beautiful and the chef and food were some of the best i had in sri lanka.... jumbo prawns give them a try .
one more beef was i booked a yala park safari, i was told that the section we went to wasnt as full of animals as the main blocks one or two... i got into jeep and the driver basically said you will have zero chance of seeing an elephant today... ruined my day and i got 5 hrs of bird watching, thats fine if you know what you getting into but I was not told this and really only went for elephants.
- Boontariga (10/5): Amazing staff! - Can highly recommend thaulle! The amazing staff really made my 35th birthday and stay special.
- Bridgette (8/5): Nice hotel close to the beach - Nice hotel close to the beach. Food is good. Staff are very friendly. Good scenery.
- Alan (10/5): Lovely hotel and staff - We had a room with balcony that overlooked a large lake. The side of the room facing the lake was completely of glass and the view was beautiful. Much of the lakeside [accessible from the hotel] is walkable, and gave us pleasant morning/evening walks. We chose the hotel because of its nearness to several National Parks, and it is a perfect place to stay if this is the purpose of your visit; you can book your safaris from the hotel. It would be good too if you just wanted to 'chill out' because there is not much to do there other than the lake walk and the pool. Unless you have a car or use a taxi you are pretty well committed to eating in the hotel since there is not much around; the local town is a long walk away. The staff were extremely helpful and very good-humoured, and the meals were quite reasonable.
Try to get a room with a lakeside view!
- Wei Chieh (8/5): A beautiful resort by the lake - * Like:
-- Location: Close to the main road so it's easy to access.
-- Room: Balcony have a good view of the lake and the pool.
-- Staff: Friendly and helpful staffs.
-- Food: Delicious and lots of choices.
-- Environment: Decoration and arrange of the resorts are full of a taste of relaxation and holidays.
* Dislike:
-- Room: Size is too small for 2 people, perhaps it’s for customers with booking discount.
-- Bathroom: Small as well but everything you need were prepared.
- charlotte (10/5): - Great hotel with friendly service
- mike (10/5): Good value, excellent service - Hired a superior double room. Spacious, clean and good amenities.
Management and staff very friendly and attentive without fawning....just strong service delivery.
Meals - breakfasts are generous and diverse with mix of western and Sri Lankan.
Dinner is choice of A la carte or buffet. The latter comprises Sri Lankan plus whatever special the hotel provides, we had Mongolian sea food Stir fry ( yes I know), and last night BBQ and veg/salads which was petty good.
Note prices for wine etc are ok, and the wine selection is varied to suit most tastes ie around 7 or seven red and whites and a few sparkling and rose.
Mgt was outstanding in sorting a booking issue. Only gripe.....no warning what a circus the YAla national park safari was. They booked excellent guide and vehicle, but we spent lieterally 3 hrs in long queues to enter the park and then to see a leopard amongst the fumes from 50 to 100 other jeeps. The mgt of this park is very disappointing.
However, hotel stay was excellent.
- Cameron (10/5): Beautiful location and professional staff - We should have spent more time here, because it was the perfect place to relax. Great food and nice views make this an easy choice for a place to unwind after visiting the park. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were cared for at all times.
- Toni (10/5): Overlooking a lagoon with water buffalo - We had three very peaceful quiet days st the Thaulle. Our room was large and well appointed. The bathroom huge and the best body products I have had in a Hotel. Food was very tasty and the menu varied. The pool was small but very lovelly sitting around in the shade of the trees.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quiet secluded and overlooking the Lagoon - The rooms are clean and spacious.
Bathrooms are large and the shampoo conditioner shower gel and body lotions are beautiful. Restaurant food is delicious and varied. The staff are helpful and friendly. The hotel is quiet and secluded. No wonder it won the Romantic Hotel of Sri Lanka award!
- Marc (10/5): Nice hotel perfectly located for a Safari at Yala - We spent two nights in Thaulle Resort and had a really pleasant stay. The hotel is very clean and the staff was very friendly. The hotel is very close to Yala National Park, so it is a perfect layover for a safari in Yala.
- Georgina (10/5): Fantastic spa hotel in very tranquil location - Lovely hotel in very tranquil setting next to Lake Yoda
The food and service are excellent with great attention to detail. Spa services are very professional. Lovely rooms and designer bathrooms.
- steven (8/5): Sri lanka - The pool is very small.. like a large hot tub. No beach... just rocks. Staff is excellent, like all the hotels I have stayed at in this country. Was expecting more of a resort with more going on, but is perfect for a quiet couple stay
- Rachel (10/5): Gorgeous hotel with wonderful staff - A beautiful hotel with lovely grounds and an incredible sunset view. The food was delicious and the staff were wonderful. It felt like a really special place to stay.
- Howard (10/5): A wonderful hotel with a spectacular view - Could not have asked for anything better near Yala Park. Great setting on the lake with a view of Ella Gorge in the distance. Staff was warm, welcoming and genuine. Would definitely go back. Enjoy!
- Cathrine (6/5): Nice place for a short short stay - Nice hotel with a stunning view. Clean and comfortable with a nice pool. Small but good enough gym. Internett was very bad. Not working at all in the room, and often without connection outside also. They said they were working on fixing it.The lokal food in the restaurant was really good! The more international dishes were overpriced and not worth the mony.Breakfast was very nice! The area around the hotel is very quiet. If there were more to do in the area we would have liked it more. Problem is there is nowere to go and no lokal restaurants so it is boring. Yala national park was nice, but very comercial. All the jeeps were driving around cjhasing after the same animals. Not the feeling of a national park. More like a zoo. I give the hotel some lower score on clenliness and property conditions. The first because the bin in our bathromm was not emptied after the previous guests. The second for the bad internett conection.
- Paresh (10/5): FANTASTIC HOTEL - we stayed for two nights, the staff very helpful, we should have checked before we booked the facilities given to our transport & driver, we had to pay extra while we never paid extra anywhere else in the country going round, the front office Executive Mr Chanaka was very helpful( i think they made a mistake on the total charges)
- Marisa (10/5): Great hotel - We visited in the off season so the hotel was very quiet but that made it even better as it felt like a private holiday home. Great location on the lake, fantastic facilities, amazing furniture and décor. Huge bathroom. Food was al la carte as there were so few guests but this made it fresh, plentiful and delicious. Would definitely stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful hotel with incredibly helpful, friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.
- virginia (10/5): Great hotel close to Yala - One night stay, lovely hotel & views over lake, good food & location for Yala or visiting the south of Sri Lanka
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful resort with good service - Spectacular lake view
Nice decoration
Curry chicken was delicious
Service was excellent
Some facilities were not working but not inportant
- Mr Wogglesworth (10/5): Gorgeous hotel, fantastic staff and food - Couldn't have asked for more. We got upgraded to a beautiful room over the top of the pool but high up away from noise (there wasn't any anyway!) and with views over the lake. Loved every minute here. Attentive staff, amazing food, cleaner than clean facilities due to the thousands of staff ready to wait on your every desire.
- Deborah (10/5): Best hotel in Sri Lanka - The Thaulle Resort is one of the best hotels we stayed in (out of six hotels in Sri Lanka)and we wished we could have stayed longer. The staff are very attentive, the décor is beautiful, the restaurant food is very tasty and the pool area is relaxing-all perfect.
- Julie (10/5): well worth staying - Spectular views over yoda lake. In the evening the ancient dagoba lights up over the other side of lake which adds to the mystical nature of tissa. Staff friendly good wonderful can have consult with on site ayurvedic Dr who was knowledgeable. It was a perfect stay.
- Mike (10/5): Smart hotel near Yala national park. - Good hotel overlooking Tissaharama lake, decent sized pool, good quality restaurant. Not much in nearby Tissaharama but hotel is ideal for safari to Yala and arranged take-out breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): a true resort - very beautiful place. room was upgraded to deluxe, a special treat. really enjoy doing nothing. will definitely stay here again on next visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): An excellent hotel with very friendly staff - Great hotel, good clean rooms, nice pool, beautiful view of the lake, great food, very friendly and service minded staff. Would definitely return to this hotel!
- meghna (8/5): Thaulle Resort - The resort was well appointed and located...................the staff was courteous and polite, but not at all flexible/accomodating
- Caroline (10/5): Phenomenal - This hotel was fantastic from start to finish! The rooms are stunning and finished to a very high quality, which is the theme throughout the hotel. From the moment you arrive the staff go out of their way to help you and make you feel special.
I have stayed in the Shangri La, Paris and there service was of similar quality to there. By far the best hotel we stayed in, in Sri Lanka! Location is stunning right in front of a beautiful lake and in the evening water buffalo entered the lake in front of the pool to cool off and sleep. The restaurant is excellent and the chef really wants to ensure your meal is perfect. Breakfast was also huge with lots of choice and when we went on safari they provided us with a packed breakfast takeaway. Very near to Yala National Park which is about a 20 minute drive!
Can't recommend it enough!
