Guest Reviews
- Sergio (8/5): - Everything is within walking distance.
- Lindsay (10/5): Basic motel no frillls - Clean room. Basic amenities. A motel best describes the room. Great restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Air conditioning was very loud. Close to Airport so you can hear planes
taking off. Check-in is all by email which was simple. Good for one night stays
- Charles (6/5): - The air conditioner didn't work too well.
- Chalei (10/5): - Easy parking & very quiet.. really basic but great for just relaxing and getting some rest
- Karie (8/5): - it was okay for the price
- Alexander (10/5): - Exactly as advertised. Very clean, nice breakfast. Close to airport.
- Darin (10/5): - Great experience upon arrival and departure. Clean room, quiet area, very peaceful.
Place is old, but very well maintained. Excellent value for price paid.
Great parking, very safe and quiet.
- Daniel (10/5): - Good oxtail
- Michelle (10/5): Great stay - Tip Top Motel was clean and had everything we needed for a short stay. We would stay here again and would recommend it to others. The cafe is great as well.
- Samantha D. (10/5): - Good foods at cafe
- Seema (10/5): - It was really good
- Mark (8/5): - Quiet
- Christian (10/5): - Fair and Clean
- Wendy (8/5): - You're review should actually indicate an N/A because I did not see any staff the 3 nights/4 days I was at the motel.
No ice machine.
No vending machine.
- roseann863 (8/5): Food for thought! - We didn’t stay here, but we stopped by for lunch at their restaurant. Not an attractive place but the food was delicious. Try the loco moco or county fried chicken. You will not be disappointed. Food was so good we went back a second time before leaving the island. Enjoy!
- Kyoko (10/5): - The hotel is awesome and clean and the check in process was so smooth with an agent checking with me to make sure I had the room number and entry code. The neighborhood seems a little sketchy with scary looking people in the parking lot but I can’t blame that on the motel! And the price of the room was very good. Overall super stoked with the motel room!
- Blaine (8/5): - Very clean for a MOTEL
- Chelse (6/5): - Convenient in the area but the room had termites and table wasn’t cleaned with hair and food smears on it. Termites on the bed and in the bathroom sink. Floor felt dirty and no icebox. Overall it was okay.
- Darin (10/5): - 1234
- Jaime (10/5): - Simple accommodations for just needing somewhere to stay the night after a long day out. Easy check in and check out. Would book again. Thanks Tip Top!
- Jamie (6/5): - Location is very convenient. Bathroom shower smelled liked mildew and mold. The bed was very squeaky and blankets were super thin and didn’t smell clean. TV kind of smaller than expected but still working. The phone plugs on the lamp did not work. It was ok. However service was great and staff are very friendly and helpful. Access to check in was very easy. Very simple and basic.
- Verified traveler (4/5): A “last Resort” Resort. - Rooms were clean but beds were horrendous. So uncomfortable! Very sparse rooms with no features or accommodations beyond the terrible beds. Restaurant was okay with excellent service, too bad the motel isn’t at the same level. For the price, there should be a coffee pot, a microwave (forced us to use the restaurant). We had to walk to 7-11 to get coffee in the morning. Bring a surge protector or muti plug adapter as there aren’t extra outlets for your devices. Motel 6 or Super 8 has this place beat!
- Pamela (6/5): - The best thing is it’s very close to the airport if you’re getting into Kauai late. Very minimal space, supplies. (Not even a hand towel… only two towels and wash cloths) No coffee pot . Smoke alarm was laying on a shelf. When I reported it because I thought they’d want to know, the response was “yeah we took it down” WHAT!!! Would not stay there again.
- Michele (4/5): - Way too expensive for the actual accommodations. The best thing I can say is that it was clean. Hard to tell though with everything being brown.
- Archana (8/5): - The stay was good and the room was good and clean and was well maintained. The only concern was the price paid almost $200 per night for a motel room (the room and bathroom size is small).
- Leona (6/5): - There was a used wash rag left in the shower and room was clearly not very clean. The cafe and office were closed the whole visit.
- ANA (10/5): - It’s a no-frills motel that serves its purpose. Cannot recommend their cafe enough!
- Jagadeesh (8/5): - It was easy check in. The rooms were well maintained. The entire room was clean and they had maintained it well. Our room had AC and TV. The washroom was big and neat. The only downside was no kettle, microwave or any other appliances or plates for us to eat. The only option is motel.
- Cassandra (10/5): Saved - Even though our check in time was at 3pm they allowed us to check in early. After having spending the night in the baggage claim area at the airport. A shower and a nap was surely welcomed. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!.
- Hostensia (10/5): - I paid about $144 per night. For that price i think it was pretty descent. The place is not bad at all. Loved my stay.
- joe (10/5): - Thank you
- Stella (10/5): Great stay at TipTop - We had a great stay - everything is as described. The room was clean and beds were comfy. The room is small but we didn't need anything but a place to sleep - it was perfect.
- Andrea (8/5): - Great bargain if your are looking for simple, no frills, basic accommodations .
- Kathleen (8/5): - We chose this motel for its location near the airport (1 mi) and reasonable price compared to the fancy re$orts! Its very functional except lacks a microwave or any way to heat beverages (cafe is totally closed- it’s Christmas) Theres a convenient Texaco station a few blocks away for coffee & snacks.
- Lois (4/5): - I picked the Tip Top because I had an early flight and wanted to be near the airport-the room was basic, mattress was not new more like camp, the TV was good,The Cafe was closed so I did not get to try it but a local said the food
was very good. I could hear the airplanes, trucks, motorcycle noise which I am not used to but I made it to the airport on time whcih was the goal.
- sherry (4/5): - quiet small and inconvenient
- N (10/5): - Perfect for when you are in a budget but didn’t compromise convenience and the quality of stay. It’s a plus to have a restaurant just down below your building.
- Brenda (8/5): Clean, reasonable price - Clean and cooled off quick with window unit. Bed closest to door- has sag spot in center. Needs flipping/rotating. Sounded like a office phone ringing every few minutes thru out night- was annoying. Fit needs and reasonable price. Liked the code entry at door- after long day of travel
- Ryan (8/5): - My brother and I spent two different segments of our trips here at Tip Top and throughly enjoyed it. It was relatively clean, comfortable, and quiet. The communication of the staff for the self check-in was superb. The diner downstairs was fantastic. The location was very convenient to many things in the area. One of the things that brought us here too was the cost, which was very reasonable given the area. The only thing negative was in our second room there were some things that needed to be cleaned better (the walls around toilet and bathroom in general), we didn’t have a fridge like we did in our first room, and our plug and lamp by bedside was broken.
- Ivy (10/5): - It was a nice stay in this property. Will recommend this to our friends and family. We enjoyed our trip in Kauai.
- Suzanne (8/5): Local Neighborhood Accommodations - My room had keyless entry, which was good (no key card to carry around) and bad (had to have 6-digit access code readily available). The room was comfortable and suited my needs. You could hang a door sign if you needed maid service during the stay, which made it eco-friendly. The room was fairly clean, although the floor probably could've used a good scrub. The AC unit was appreciated but was awfully noisy. There is free parking (but the spaces are small) and a decent coffee shop on property. Tip Top is conveniently located in Lihue, so it is near almost everything.
- Daniel (10/5): - This a very nice motel for the price. Very close to the airport. Adequate amount of parking.
- Sabra (10/5): - Best price deal for safe time when you’ll be out and about anyway
- Sherman (10/5): - Good
- Trevor (10/5): - Good stay, cheap.
- Krista (10/5): - Easy check in
- Andrew (10/5): - Quick & easy
- Douglas (10/5): - Just spent one night - it was clean, comfortable & quiet.
Checking in was very easy.
- Micah (10/5): - It was great!
- Katharina (8/5): - Location
- JOHN (8/5): - Good for solo budget as who can’t afford to stay a Hotel’s or Resorts!
- Chris (10/5): - Clean property - good communication from the staff
- Ed (8/5): - Very reasonable price per night, and without resort fees. And the bakery/restautarant provided very convenient access for breakfast and lunch !!! We would stay there again , when we return to Kauai.
Ed Villena
- Brenda (10/5): - It’s very very old and humble. Clean but a 2-star motel.
- Jose (2/5): - Dirty and unkept. Better off sleeping in the rental car.
- Virginia (10/5): 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay - Amazing ambience and beach access. Gorgeous swimming pool and spas set in an exotic garden. Lots of exercise and craft classes to attend. A room full of exercise equipment. Great food! A panoramic view of Hanalei Bay. Courteous service and cleanliness. We enjoyed our stay.
- Neal (10/5): - This motel is an excellent value (considering Hawaii prices). The room was comfortable with a nice TV and cable package in a great location, a block from Hilo Hattie's with several restaurants, cafes, and fast-food places nearby. Just a mile from the airport. I actually walked back to the airport the next day to rent a car.
- DayTrip05633095055 (2/5): Rude server - First impression..server was curt. Not friendly. With her bad vibes, my bento order was unpleasant. Noodles was cold, wunton burnt roast pork was tough, with dings under cooked. And they charge for hot water
The servers should have hospitality training. They'Ll get their tips no matter what. We go to tiptop because of quality of food. So allow me to enjoy the atmosphere..laid back. So we don't this kind of treatment..like we're in a food line and must hippity hop hop.
- Glenn Christian (2/5): - There are no plugs in the bathroom, no tissues, no free coffee, nobody to call after 3:00, no ice, no microwave, no refrigerator. It's a small brick prison cell with an air conditioner. They charged me $200 a night and then they wanted to charge for coffee and offered breakfast for 15 to $20. Never again
- kim (10/5): - Clean and comfortable,.. Was close to airport and staff very friendly. Had breakfast at the restaurant. Friendly efficient staff. Food served very quickly. And breakfast was great. Get the pancakes!!!!
- Jordan (10/5): - I absolutely loved this cute little motel and restaurant. It was a lovely stay with everything I want in a hotel: reliable WiFi, great TV (including TCM), a comfortable bed, and a lovely shower and bathroom. I highly recommend this place. The bakery and restaurant were delicious and convenient too!
- Marla (10/5): - Nice place for travelers. The communication was great. The room was comfortable. There is a breakfast/ lunch place associated with the motel but we had to leave really early to catch our flight so we didn't have a way to make coffee in the morning. Other than that, it was the perfect spot.
- Vi (8/5): - Property located near airport ( 5 min) drive . Location is safe and bed is comfy .
- Suzanne (8/5): Good Local Establishment - Tip Top is conveniently located near the airport and downtown Lihu’e. It has a nice local style restaurant on property that serves breakfast and lunch with other restaurants nearby. The accommodations are modest, but provide most everything you would need to make your stay comfortable. And as long as you are able to follow instructions, check in and check out are a breeze.
- Michael (10/5): - Unique place. Very 'urban' but very clean and modernized from the original. Served it's purpose perfectly - functional and clean.
- Mo'iwahine (10/5): - It was perfect for my short trip price was great it had everything i needed 😌
- Brian (6/5): Overall a good deal - Pretty basic room. But what you'd expect for the price. Cafe downstairs was excellent. Needs a fridge
- Andrew (10/5): - It is not real fancy, but it was affordable, clean and conveniently located. I loved the breakfast I had at the Tip Top restaurant!
- Darrick (8/5): - Conveniently located to attractions, restaurants, shops, etc
- Vivian (8/5): - The hotel location was a good.
- David (10/5): A Good Clean Secure Economy Hotel - Room was ready, neat, clean. simple but with the basic necessities. Room was secure and TV was good. Shower was clean, water hot and towels soft. It would have been nice if the room had a coffee maker, but the tip Top Cafe was right downstairs a few feet away, so no real problem. A good economy hotel.
- Barbara (10/5): - Simple, but clean and practical.
- ANA (10/5): - I needed a place to stay for one night and this fit the bill perfectly. The staff was communicative and helped ease any worries I had.
- Mimi (8/5): - Love food at this place
- Pete (10/5): - Great location
- Patrice (10/5): - The property is conveniently located to everything within walking or Lyft distance. This was my second time staying at Tip Top!
- Donald Hershman Kathy (8/5): - Security was a bit uncertain. The door lock could have easily been opened by some skilled thief.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We landed a day early and they did their best to accommodate us.
Very friendly and helpful.
- Gilberto (6/5): - Very basic accommodations. The window air condition unit was very noisy. Very small room but clean. Instructions were sent for a late check-in which was very useful as my plane got delayed. It would be nice if the room had a minifridge...
- Paul (6/5): - Room was small, nothing fancy. It was very clean with a king size bed and a decent bathroom. It is very close to the airport which made it easy to get to for an early morning flight. It was comfortable enough and a good fit for us for the one night.
- Shian Yu (4/5): - Lack of. Basic room supplies and services
- Barbara (10/5): - Very convenient location from the airport (taxi service). The room is plain but very clean. We’re looking forward to a wonderful Hawaiian breakfast this morning while we wait for our Turo pick up at check out. The rosters were crowing early this morning.
- Larry (10/5): - Clean . TV didn’t work
- Lawrence P (4/5): - Floor was painted concrete and cinder block walls. Air conditioner was very loud. Cable box was not working. There is no office to report a problem after 2:00 p.m. Bed wasn't comfortable. I recommend spending a little more for something decent if you can.
- James (6/5): - Older facility, well maintained, very clean.
Few frills. TV in room has no signal, no hair dryer, few outlets.
Bed was comfortable, but neighborhood traffic is sometimes noisy in the evening.
Cafe/bakery on ground floor is great for breakfast!
- James (8/5): Clean and close to the airport - We just needed one night close to the airport and Tip Top Motel Cafe and Bakery fit our need. It is a very plain hotel, nothing fancy. Our room was clean and the bed was comfy. The attached cafe has great breakfast (not included) which was a bonus!
- Theresa (8/5): - It was clean cozy and today adequate.
- Mary (6/5): Basic - Absolutely no frills. Bed, shower, folding chair , toilet, sink, small table with WiFi, 4 plastic cups and 3 hangers. Asked for a firm bed and received it. Bedroom seemed clean.
Bathroom mop boards were dotted with urine as was the wall by the toilet.
- Hilary (8/5): 2 night stay - I booked this hotel for it's location and price for 2 nights prior to spending 7 days in Princeville. The bed was comfortable and basically clean. It is very basic but that was what I expected, just a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. We were not impressed with the restaurant for breakfast which we were told was great. I would say medioca at best.
- Linda (6/5): Tip Top - Our flight arrived late so this was the perfect location for us as it was 1.8 miles from the airport.
- Matthew (8/5): - Stayed only one night. Very basic place. Not much to it but was convenient. Close to my business activity and extremely clean. I have not seen this basic of a hotel this clean in my travels. Did not get a change to check out the bakery due to limited time. There are many places to eat that are a 5-10 minute drive from the Motel.
- Yue (2/5): - It's the worst experience for a long time.
- Bot, Doug and (6/5): - The accommodation of a late night checkin
- Debra (10/5): - It’s in a business area. The unit was simple. And very clean. The restaurant is where the local, Kauai people. Go. The food is simple, affordable, and delicious!!
- Jarrod (10/5): - The staff was very helpful with accommodating a late check-in and early check-out!
- janiceaB4940LB (2/5): COCKROACHES very bad here - We stayed one night when we arrived. Cockroaches running all over the bathroom floor and walls. No help after office closed so left the lights on to try to sleep but hard. Then at checkout told them and they said they would put us in a different building when we returned in a week. We had a booking in Princeville. Come back and yes different building but still had cockroaches! So asked for refund to go to another hotel but NO REFUND! So left here. The lady had called the owner but he just did not care.
- robert (8/5): - Ok for one night. Great local restaurant
.
- Arlene (6/5): - There was no one after 1:30 pm. No garbage cans or lights in parking lot. We left at 6 am and place was locked up and no one to give keys to
- James (10/5): - Convient location for cafe.
- Jon (2/5): - Basic is too kind a word. Virtually bare room with a bed, a single bedside table, a small fridge sitting in the open, a small 2' round coffee table to small and low to be useful. No chairs, no drawers, an open wardrobe alcove. No coffee making, microwave or anything. No appliances except the fridge.Aircon struggled to cool but was so noisy we didn't like using it. Bathroom was just ok and at least the toilet flushed and the water was warm..
Located in an industrial area so noise and vehicles and people through whole day which started from 5am. No room service (for Covid safety!!!!) Was seriously the worst motel ever encountered and are so glad we escaped
