Guest Reviews
- Lena (8/5): Nice place to stay - The place was off the beaten path, quiet, and with various animal just outside. The owners lived up stairs and if we had any requests they were taken care of.
- Lisa (10/5): So cute and Comfortable! - Our 3 night stay at Ponchos Hideout was far better than we anticipated! Very clean and comfortable! Pat and John went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we needed. We will return!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not what I expected - Poncho's and Lefty's are basically the basement (walk out style) of the owner's house, that are separated by a thin wall with a door, so everything between the two rooms is heard by the other side. The owners stay in the up stairs portion of the house, so if you are a light sleeper, you will hear them as well. No chance of an intimate stay unless you do not care if the other occupants hear your every movement. The place was clean, the bed was way to soft for me (like sleeping on a low pressure air mattress). Perhaps my biggest disappointment was that the owners were flying a confederate flag and to make it worse, it was flying above the American flag.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not family friendly - The setting was beautiful if your traveling by yourself and not doing anything with others. They allow no guest or overnight visitors.
The room is not quiet as you can hear people walking around up stairs and even hear people next door snoring!
The owners must have had bad experiences with past quest because there is two or three full pages of what you CAN'T do.
Kind of sad because this could have been a much better experience with a little more customer care and understanding by the owner.
- Keith (10/5): Cabin for bike week - Great cabin and great location. The gravel road was a bit of a negative but we knew that going in. Fantastic time and I would rent it again.
- Larry (10/5): Great cabin and quiet getaway - Had a great time.cabin was in a nice quiet setting in the country surrounded by hills and wildlife.no WiFi but it is nice to get away from all the hustle and bustle.very nice hostess .really enjoyed and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away and Mello out for a while.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a fantastic place and a great experience, nice and quiet and peaceful and Pat and John were great and very friendly and efficient, may not be the best place for families with children because of no tv or internet but if your looking for a unique experience this is the place to stay
- brenda (2/5): Confederate Flag flying in front of the hotel :( - We were incredibly surprised and disappointed to see a confederate flag flying directly in front of the hotel building on the property when we arrived. Though we were looking forward to a couple of nights in a peaceful, somewhat remote location--away from street lights and fast food restaurants--for our vacation lodging, my family did not even feel safe/comfortable getting out of the car. (There was a vehicle parked there with a confederate flag tire cover, too. Not the hotel's fault, but it certainly added to our safety concern.) The property feels a bit like a compound, rather than a peaceful forest setting. We can't speak to what the rooms were like, but if a confederate flag bothers you, please don't waste your time and money booking this lodging. The owners acknowledged the flag is there, but did not take responsibility for it and did not refund our money. If we had known ahead of time, we would never have booked this lodging. A big waste of time, money, and energy for us.
- Paul (10/5): Out in the woods hideaway near landmarks - Loved the quiet and solitude. This is a cabin in the woods (almost). Very quiet. Breakfast on the patio with rabbits and squirrels nearby. Saw doe and two fawns grazing nearby. Easy driving distance from Dakota landmarks. Good price and the hosts are really nice people. No television and no internet access, so be prepared to entertain yourself. Loved it!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Great spot to really get away from daily life, but still close to Custer. Bed linens were a bit worn, could use a little updating.
- Stacy (8/5): - The room and management were great and above expectations.
Access to the wifi network was not permitted. It made it difficult to plan for the next day, look up advertised attractions, or check the weather.
