- Tamsyn (10/5): A little place of paradise in Kandy - Beautiful pool and rooms. There’s a pool table too! If you go to Kandy you must stay here. The staff are AMAZING! And the food cooked by Umesh is some of the best I’ve had so far. We were upgraded to a suite and totally looked after! Nothing!

- Irene and Bernhard (9/5): Stilvolles Vintage-Hotel in ruhigem Viertel von Kandy - Clove Villa ist ein stilvolles Hotel mit gemütlicher Gemeinschaftslounge, Frühstücksecke, Billiardbereich und mit verschiedenen Zimmern in mehreren Halb-Stockwerken um ein Atrium herum. Im Garten befindet sich ein Pool. Das Auto kann im Parkareal geparkt werden. Die große Suite verfügt über eine Sitzecke mit charmanten Dekorartikeln, ein Doppelbett und ein sauberes Badezimmer mit Dusche sowie einen Whirlpool im Balkonbereich mit Sichtschutz. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und steht 24 Stunden zur Verfügung. Das Hotel befindet sich in der Nähe vieler historisch bedeutenden Sehenswürdigkeiten, welche wir mit dem eigenen Auto wunderbar erreichen konnten. Leider gab es zu vorgerückter Stunde nur mehr lauwarmes Wasser für den privaten Whirlpool und die Dusche. Das Frühstück wurde extra verrechnet und bietet nicht das wofür der Preis steht.

His professionalism was second to none and love of cooking was clear to us all. We left our evening meal choices to him and we were presented with his own recipes which were as good, if not better, than any restaurants we have eaten in. The breakfast presentation was also superior to anywhere we have stayed. The staff went out of their way to prepare everything at the pool for us so we could not have asked for anything more. Nothing

The villa is beautifully designed with elegant surprises in every corner. Chef Umesh prepared extraordinary dinners that I still think of. Having eaten several Sri Lankan meals before arriving, I found Chef Umesh's creations far beyond anything experienced before. The staff could not have been more helpful, Yohan looked after us the entire stay nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner on the first evening and then booked for the following day as the food was so exceptional. If you stay in Kandy you must stay here and definitely have dinner.

Was perfect om op deze drukke plek van a naar b te komen. Alles was zeer goed verzorgd en ook de was hebben ze nog in zeer korte tijd voor ons gedaan.

- James (10/5): Brilliant peaceful villa with superb food and a divine pool. - The peace and quiet. The wonderful staff, particularly Anush(?) the cheap and major domo of the property, overseeing everything to make sure it was perfect. Before coming here we ate in some of the best restaurants in Colombo - The Art Gallery Cafe, Gini and the Galle Face Hotel - Anush’s cooking was superior in every way. The two Sri Lankan meals he prepared for us were authentic and amazing. Top marks! We also loved the pool, clean water and refreshing atmosphere and private, The Wi-Fi could be erratic, but this was caused by the erratic Sri Lankan power supply, not the fault of Clove Villa.

Ensuring we got into our taxis ok, booking restaurant reservations and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast is very poor value for what you get considering the cost of the room is slightly more expensive than the rest of Kandy.
- Susan (10/5): Warm welcome to Kandy - At Clove Villa, you are welcomed with such warmth and genuine kindness. It is a stunning hotel with incredibly lovely people. Before our stay, we had contact about train tickets and any other help we might need—nothing was ever too much to ask. It’s a peaceful, calm oasis in the bustling city of Kandy. The location is slightly outside the city center, which we actually appreciated. You can reach the city in just 10–15 minutes by tuk-tuk—this is absolutely no problem and very easy to arrange, so there’s really no reason not to book. The interior is beautiful, the room was wonderful, and the shower was absolutely perfect. You can take a swim (weather permitting), and there are lovely outdoor spots to sit and relax. The people truly deserve a special mention. They are so warm, friendly, and helpful. They think along with you, arrange anything you need, and go above and beyond. Without them, this place wouldn’t have been half as special (even though it already looks stunning and is very comfortable). Nothing, everything was great!
- Matt (10/5): A beautiful hotel with the most amazing staff - The property was immaculate - we had 3 rooms, 2 garden double rooms and the suite with the hot tub. Every room was stunning, especially the suite. Any of the rooms would be a privilege to stay in. The team at the hotel were incredible - from the welcome when you arrive to the food that was cooked at the hotel it was incredible. Word of warning - the portion sizes are huge and delicious so make sure you are very hungry when you order! The Hotel was amazing, so peaceful and beautiful. The main road of Kandy that is about 500m away is not so great. Easy solution though - stay in the hotel.

Amazing food - we had eaten well on our travels in Sri Lanka but the food here was divine, especially the butter chicken. It was great to be able to relax around the pool away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. I would give Clove Villa 11/10 if I could.

The area was fine but certainly not scenic . The menu was limited … but we did stay for 6 nights .

I stayed more, than was planned. This is the villa totally local style, everything in villa is customised. Small design detailes even. Old atlas of Sri Lanka, books about Budda. I came at 4 am, 2 persons were waiting for me, serving tea! In holy hight! Rooms are magical, nothing is from wholesale market. Cleaning is every 10 minutes. Pool is clean, mango trees on the territory. Chef is perfect, cooking meal speacially for you! Prices are low !!! Even on gas station food can be more expensive. Customised soap with fragrance of spices!!! Shaving kits, tooth brushes, all provided. PIANO MUSIC playing in the villa. I can not recomend this place more!!!!! Opposite villa there is big hotel, but its not even in comparison with villa Clove - in Clove you are happy to come back !!!! Thank you, dear people of Villa clove! There is nothing to dislike

- Jay (10/5): THE destination in Kandy! - This place is a must when in Kandy. In fact, we'd specifically want to go back to Kandy just to go to this hotel again and enjoy the peacefulness and AMAZING food. We've already been to a number of hotels and restaurants in Sri Lanka, and while we've sampled superb dishes, Umesh's talents in the kitchen remain unparalleled. Kudos, sir!! In terms of location, the hotel is easy access to the city, but also is in a calm area surrounded by sounds of birds and squirrels hopping around in the trees across. Everything was very clean, comfortable, and lux. The clove shower gel and soap were also a smart touch. Finally, the staff at any place are always a critical contributor to the overall experience. At Clove Villa, Danushka and Umesh were the clincher. Both were so polite, friendly, professional, and always ready to go above and beyond to accommodate any requests. Thank you both! There is nothing not to like!
- Jon (10/5): Fantastic hotel, location and staff. - Danushka looked after us really well and provided lots of helpful tips about how to get around in Kandy. The chef also cooked us an amazing meal, the best we have had so far in Sri Lanka. The villa itself is in a pleasant location 5km from the city centre but within easy reach via a tuk tuk or taxi on PickMe. It's quirkily decorated but more interesting than your average hotel as a result. We also enjoyed playing pool! Nothing.

Both breakfast and dinner are amazing, the chef prepared one of the best curries we had in Sri Lanka. Absolutely recommended!
- Steve (9/5): A peaceful and classy place. - Clove Villa is a boutique hotel and a special place with lovely and extremely helpful staff. On leaving, we wanted to visit the botanical gardens and then go straight to the train station. The problem was what to do with all our luggage in the meantime (there being no left luggage facility at the station). The Manager (most unfortunately I have mislaid his name) volunteered to take our luggage down to the station (a 15 minute drive) and meet us there! He then happily spent the next 20 minutes helping me find an ATM which worked. There is a pleasant pool at the back of the hotel. We also played pool before an excellent dinner (and no corkage charge for my bottle of wine). Eating in really suited us as otherwise we would have to go into the city centre and I very much doubt we would have had as good a dinner. Everything was great.

You always need a 15 minutes taxi/tucktuck ride.

- Scott (9/5): Superb - The rooms were spacious, the staff was extremely attentive and the food was cooked to order and excellent. The breakfast was ridiculously expensive ($15 per person). The constant playing of “elevator” music in the hotel was annoying.
- Annelise (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our stay at Clove Villa. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable and we had the best sleep since the rooms are quiet and removed from the street. A big plus is the level of hospitality. You're met with cold towels and fresh juice on arrival and nothing is too much with every interaction warm and helpful. The absolute highlight for us was the dinner - we had Sri Lankan curries and a chicken salad. The quality of ingredients was high and every element was delicious. We'll remember our stay here forever!
- Laura (10/5): Lovely, clean and comfortable. - Well furnished and comfortable rooms. Immaculately clean, and they couldn’t be any more helpful, resetting our room everytime we went out. Lovely breakfast, and a modest pool which we had to ourselves every day. We only eat breakfast here, and opposite is a large hotel where you can pay to go in and have their extensive buffet for dinner if you don’t want to drive into town. A bit out of town, so you’ll need a driver, or some form of transport. No restaurants nearby, only the hotel opposite for buffet, or eat in.

We had an amazing meal on the balcony, great quality across different cuisines. Our fussy teenage son gobbled up three naans and all his butter chicken. No sharing

- Rahul (7/5): Okay.. nice place, but maybe for a one time visit - The staff are very friendly and the villa is very well maintained. What you see is what you pay for Surprisingly we were charged for baby food & baby milk. It’s never happened before. The remote area makes it tough to walk around, there is nothing in the surroundings. Any food takes 1 hour to come as they need to make it specially for you.

- Lut (10/5): True holiday gem - Absolute pleasure from beginning to start. We stayed here aa part of our twoo week honeymoon travel. At Clove Villa you will feel so welcome and taken care off, that you’ll get an instant holiday feeling. The staff is probably one of the nicest people we’ve had in a hotel so far. Danushka made sure we were never short on anything, prepared some seats at rhe pool for us and brought our wine at the pool after a long day of hiking. In the kitchen Chef Umesh and his trainees Pradip and Dilan prepared some of the best Sri Lankan food we’ve had. I was so in awe of the food that I asked Umesh if he would give me a cooking class. The next day I stood by him in the kitchen for more than 2 hours, watching him prepare our dinner whilst he explained every step and showed me different kinds of spices and herbs. We cannot thank the whole team enough!! Clove villa will be on our top list of hotels and experiences and we would LOVE to come back!!

- Gabriele-praise (10/5): Exceptional - Clove Villa is situated just outside of Kandy's city centre! It's so picturesque inside. The decor and facilities are superb. We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. We didn't have breakfast or dinner at the hotel because we wanted to try places outside but you can purchase breakfast or dinner here. There's also a cute pool outside!
- Jennie (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional boutique hotel, an oasis of calm in hectic Kandy. We felt welcome from the minute we arrived, greeted by Danushka with cool towels and freshly squeezed juice in the beautifully appointed marble reception area by incredibly attentive and helpful staff. Our room was spacious and elegant with a luxurious bathroom including a shower with great water pressure and plenty of hot water (a first for us in Sri Lanka!). The food was wonderful; Umesh the chef spent time talking to us about what we would like and created an amazing meal, especially the aubergine curry made to his grandmother's recipe and the jackfruit curry made with fresh jackfruit from the tree in the garden. The outside area is lovely, with very comfortable sunbeds and many different birds (and frogs!). Overall, we felt thoroughly spoiled throughout our stay; the service felt very personal and nothing was too much trouble. The manager whose name I didn't catch was also lovely, so helpful and wanting to do anything she could to ensure we had the best possible stay. Nothing
- Colin (10/5): 2 night stay as part of a 10 day holiday - Lovely boutique hotel made even more special by the people who work here. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, an excellent en-suite shower room, and a balcony with a view over the pool. The downstairs lounge and breakfast area were also spacious and lovely. Dinner was served outside on a balcony overlooking the front. Dinners were lovely Sri Lankan curries and the portions were very big. Too big for us but delicious! Breakfasts were also lovely, fresh fruit and honey curd followed by a choice of eggs and bacon and sausage if wanted. Clove Villa is very peaceful and it was lovely to wake up to the sound of birds. It is well-placed to spend time in Kandy, visit the relic of the tooth temple and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Particular thanks to Umesh (the chef) and Danushka who made our short stay very special.
