Perfectly located just a short walk from the beach and you walk right into downtown when you step out your room so you can easily explore everything on foot. Every morning they hand-deliver a breakfast basket, which was such a sweet touch. Parking on property also! They even let us check in earlier than our scheduled time, which was a big plus. All of the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The only downside is that there’s only one mirror in the bathroom with very very little counter space, which made doing my makeup and getting ready a bit tricky. It would be amazing if they added a mirror somewhere in the room itself to make it easier to get ready! Other than that, it was a wonderful experience and I’d love to stay here again!

We were treated as valued guests by the owner Casey who had graciously upgraded our room and provided a complimentary breakfast delivered to our room each morning. The room was in a secluded and quiet area that had a outdoor seating area where we could hear the ocean while enjoying the complimentary sherry and chocolates. To all who wish to visit Carmel-By-The-Sea, we highly recommended this Inn.

Our rooms were upstairs and we had a balcony with chairs and a table. We sat outside with our complimentary sherry. Wonderful atmosphere and was cozy. If I was ever going back to Carmel to stay overnight, I would book this place, again!

• Juan (8/5): - Nice hotel and comfy room. Only thing is they charge you 50 dollars a day for pets, so add that on top of your total. Which I wasn’t expecting since I thought the total on here would be enough, so not good on Expedia to leave that out. Hotel is close to downtown and walkable!
• Thu (8/5): - This was a fairly affordable stay in a really convenient location! It's right in downtown Carmel which makes everything relevant within walking distance. It's also a really homey and adorable place! The rooms are cute, a little dated (the bathroom is a bit older for sure) but it's suitable for a short stay, nothing was egregious. The staff are very helpful and considerate so I felt extremely welcome and safe. The morning welcome basket is also a nice touch! Overall it's a recommended place to stay due to its location, staff and accommodation, and cleanliness.

The check-in host was extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations of where to go. Our only complaints were very minimal dedicated parking and no option for early breakfast. We were on East Coast time and wanted to get up early and be out and about.

They are very poorly insulated and I could hear the person in the next room snoring and every conversation they had on the phone. Also, the plumbing from the upstairs rooms is extremely noisy due to this fact I gave my stay a poor rating. I’ve stayed here before in the past only in different rooms at the main inn across the street and those stairs were very good.

We walked to the fabulous restaurant he recommended for dinner and absolutely LOVED every bite. Our room was clean, comfortable and had luxurious details like fluffy robes and Cream Sherry. In the morning, after our walk on the beach, we came home to a beautiful breakfast basket- filled with delicious treats: hard boiled eggs, fresh OJ, yogurt, fruit, and toasted bagel and English muffin, and French-style fruit jams. Hot organic coffee in the office is a fabulous bonus too. Loved our stay and will definitely go back.

The manager Randy was very kind and helpful. He even walked us over to a restaurant nearby to ask its manager a question we had about an item on the menu. Our first visit to Carmel; now we feel; we have a home there ; definitely Monte Verde Inn. Complimentary breakfast in a basket is brought to your door every morning! Complimentary parking is available in the two parking lots owned by the Inn

The gentleman at the front desk gave us great advice on what to see and where to dine. • SARAH (8/5): Another amazing trip. - It was a terrific trip. The hotel is in an amazing location. But, be prepared for lots of noise and an uncomfortable bed. There were minimal pillows and blankets. The staff and front desk are fantastic.There were ear plugs and I would either ask for more pillows and blankets or bring extra.

• Randel (8/5): - This is a great location in Carmel, close to everything. It is an older building and is noisy. They do provide earplugs in your room so they must have had complaints. We got a lovely breakfast basket this first morning delivered to our door, yogurt, OJ, HB eggs, bagel, English muffin and fruit. Day 2 and 3 we got nothing. Day 2 we were out anyway but day 3 would have been nice to have breakfast before we left. I saw other baskets outside doors so not sure why we were missed. Also did not get room serviced on day 2 even though we were out for a 4 hour stretch.

They also serve breakfast to your door around 8 am daily, which is delicious and has balanced ingredients. My only complaint is the soundproofing was poor, you can easily hear the voice in the next room. Fortunately everyone was mostly quiet during my stay.
• Marcy (10/5): - Front desk staff here were amazing! The owner Kate was so kind and helpful right from my first email. Stayed in room 11, very cozy, comfortable and clean. The basket breakfast is good and a nice touch. Found that the lock to the door was a bit fidgety, mentioned this at the front desk, so that will likely be looked after. My only suggestion for anyone who is bothered by light when sleeping, bring yourself a sleeping mask. The window coverings are shutters without a black out capacity. Very quaint. Loved the old fashioned stand alone tub. Everything within walking distance. Highly recommend!

The only thing that I would warn other travelers about is that the parking is first come, first served. We didn't have a problem with this during our stay but it was a little off-putting as I had thought that parking was guaranteed when I booked the hotel. It's also a bit loud in this location, like many other hotels in Carmel. Bring a white noise machine, or use the earplugs provided by the hotel for a better night's sleep. Overall, we loved staying here and would stay here again.

Casey was a gracious host, very helpful informing us of nearby restaurants.

The property has "historic charm" and certainly some patina, but the location is ideal, the room was clean and comfortable with everything I needed, and the bonus breakfast basket each morning was an unexpected touch that really made it special. Then when you consider that the rate includes parking and wifi, this is one of the best values in the village. Thank you MVI for hosting me!

• Christopher (4/5): - The room was ancient. The windows were 'jalousie' style (louvred) - which means zero sound / climate insulation - worse than single pane (looked like they were from the 50s). You could hear everything outside (they even provided earplugs, which is a sign). I had to crank the heater up to offset the cold air (this was January). The bed had just an ultra-light blanket, and I was cold the whole night (there was an extra blanket in the closet but I'm not too keen on using those - not sure how often they are cleaned). The front door was split 'Dutch style' which meant there was a gap and no insulation. The floor felt like it could collapse at any moment (I was on the 2nd floor). This place really is a relic from the past, and feels like it hasn't been updated in decades. Parking is free but was very tight - practice your uphill reversing skills! For 'breakfast' a basket is left outside your room with some OJ, bagel, toast, yoghurt, and fruit. Since it's left outside, I hope they don't recycle the contents but as I only ate one item (a cold bagel), it's a terrible waste. The hotel location is fantastic - steps from Ocean Ave, which is ideal - no need to drive anywhere as you can reach the shops/restaurant in seconds and the beach in minutes. The price was reasonable for the location. I can only imagine the high rating is because of location and price.

• DAVID (4/5): Should’ve paid more for a better place - We chose the Monte Verde Inn for price, location, and the good reviews it had. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly desk agent who gave us good advice on parking and local restaurants. We were offered an upgrade from our queen bed to a king with an additional charge which we declined. We were then taken to our room at “Monte Verde East”. This is directly across the street from the primary location. The room we were given was very dated and in need of remodel / upgrades. The furnishings were all painted but covered in chips and scratches. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been worked on in decades. In fact, the receptacle at the bathroom sink (non-GFCI) was so old that I had to hold the plug for my wife to use her curling iron because it kept falling out. The bed was moderately comfortable but the pillows were paper thin. It was a warm night and there’s no AC. We tried leaving the windows open but you heard a lot of road noise and people outside. Closing them didn’t help much either. We should’ve known when the bathroom had two sets of earplugs!?!? The pipes were very loud whenever someone turned on the water. In the morning, someone knocked on our door and yelled “Breakfast!” Despite the Do Not Disturb sign on our door. It wouldn’t have mattered though because we could hear them at every single door in the building. The breakfast basket seemed great until we discovered that the yogurt was ELEVEN DAYS EXPIRED. Next time we’ll pay a little more for a better hotel.

In addition the rooms were clean and updated (especially compared to some other older properties in the area).

• Verified traveler (8/5): great service! - The service was amazing! Everyone was super nice, knowledgeable, and made sure our trip was top notch. Walls are a bit thin, but they provide ear plugs. If you want something super quiet, probably not for you. But it wasn't too bad for us, its not a party hotel :)
• Katherine (10/5): - Wonderfull staff member provided amazing suggestions for dinner and mapped out how to walk to the beach. Our room was adorable and extremely clean. The Inn is perfectly located for walking to town or beach.
• Darrell (8/5): - Parking was scarce and upstairs room noise was extremely loud. Could hear conversations from other guests.
