Guest Reviews
- Melissa (10/5): - What an unexpected delight to discover that this is also a retreat space and focuses on healing and well-being. I booked my stay because my brother got married at Sugarloaf which is nearby. The hot tub was so wonderful to enjoy between the events and parties. Thank you!
- Frank (10/5): - Charming manor house with a more modern addition that expands the capacity of the inn. Check in was very quick and the receptionist was informative. Restaurant options are nearby. We took advantage of the hot tub and sauna located on the property.
- James (10/5): - Good
- Brad (10/5): - Inn was great, staff/owners were as well. Everything we were hoping for.
- Evgeny (10/5): - Very nice place to stay
- Connor (10/5): - Matt behind the bar is the man!
- Dawn (10/5): - I was not able to make it because of the weather and account I should not getting refund but the hotel did the right thing
- Thomas (10/5): - Not very hotel-like, but in a good way. It felt more like staying in a room at a large house. The lounge are was a great place to hangout in the evenings and the dogs are excellent greeters. Bar cocktails are 10/10.
- Gregory (10/5): - Pleasantly surprised. We had a great stay. All the quaint, friendly, homey feeling of an inn, with updated rooms and common areas. They also had ine of the coolest bars I have been to!
- Alec (10/5): - Very friendly staff, cozy atmosphere.
- Amanda (10/5): - Lovely, and it smelled amazing too! The bed was incredibly comfy! Overall a gem!
- M. Suzanne (6/5): - This is an interesting place. A grand old mansion coupled with a new yoga retreat. I didn't stay at the retreat but booked a room to be in the area for the eclipse. Their are two different kinds of rooms, the mansion rooms and the carriage house rooms. The carriage house is the converted barn and these rooms are decorated in a more modern style. Carriage house rooms also include at least two basement rooms (which was what we were given) that are honestly kind of grim and gloomy. Would advise future travelers to ask for any rooms other than those in the basement.
On the positive side, the shower was great and there is a beautiful common room to hang out in.
I do think the owners or managers should try to hire more staff. Everyone we interacted with was wonderful but my sense is that they had to be about three places at once at all times. It was sometimes hard to find someone to ask questions/get help.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Cute little place but can hardly call what they served "breakfast". The walls are thin, we could hear everything in the rooms around, and bed's metal frame/springs are very squeaky.
- Aaron (4/5): - The room was not super clean. Doghair on the bed and the door was left ajar for my arrival which just felt a little odd. No television, which can be nice, but walls were thin and heard the group next door all night. The front desk was almost serve-yourself style. I was told that even though it was Saturday, there "probably wouldn't be any dinner served". and there was no breakfast, no employees in the lobby at all. Also, at a handful of times a day, the lobby was simply "closed" for a yoga session.
- nicole (10/5): - Lovely New England getaway
- William (10/5): - Clean affordable and fairly close to skiing
- Rebecca (10/5): - Very comfortable clean and well renovated. Staff was very accommodating it’s a true gem I look forward to coming back with the family.
- harold (10/5): - the healing arts staff were amazing, would have liked to met owners or managers.
- Kay (4/5): - Very disappointed when I checked in to run the Sugarloaf Marathon and asked about getting some food at the bar. The owner/checkin clerk said, oh yes we have bar food. I went to my room cleaned up a bit and was down at the bar 30 minutes or so later. Ordered a beer and asked for a menu. No, we just closed the kitchen (this was 6 pm in the evening. The new owners purchased the hotel in the last year that they admitted to me but apparently don't know how to run a lodging business. Other things like missing soap dishes in the shower, bracket for bodywash container but no container. Bunch of little things. Be wary.
- Kimberly (10/5): Cozy Inn Kingfield - Inn was very nice. Clean and room was spacious, bathroom was lovely. Would definitely recommend and we will stay here again.
- Maia (10/5): - Very nice
- Renee (10/5): - A unique and wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend staying at this inn if you’re looking for a place to stay in Kingfield or the surrounding area. The staff were amazing and the environment was beautiful.
- Jasmine (8/5): - The property and the people as well as the amenities were top tier, the only aspect that I didnt particularly enjoy was how thin the walls were. I heard everything that the people next to me were talking about/doing. Granted it was listed in the site description, but the people next to me weren’t mindful of how much their voice was carrying at 6:30 am.
- Albin (10/5): - Small, but full of charm. Super clean rooms and bathrooms, cozy main area with fireplace and bar. Friendly and helpful staff. Close to Sugarloaf Mountain, but we would come back here, even though we don’t ski!
- Hana (10/5): - Nice setting
- Magen (10/5): - Such an amazing stay! Beautiful property and staff. We loved the jacuzzi and sauna after a long cold day of skiing. Great breakfast and mattresses were so comfy. We will definitely be coming back next year!
- john (10/5): Wonderful winter stay - We had a wonderful stay here and i highly recommend it.
- Patricia (8/5): - It was difficult to find anything on Sugarloaf or nearby. I booked this and we had a small cozy room in the "Barn." The bathroom was newly remodeled and nice, but small. The room was quite small and there was no TV. The decorations on the wall were quite tacky. However, check-n and the dining area were quite nice. We didn't get to dine due to other arrangements. I realize most go up that way to ski but I don't. I had to be there for a family gathering. A TV would be appreciated.
- David (6/5): - I enjoyed the jacuzzi and sauna, but the room had no hot water in the shower or a trash can. Other than that, decent stay.
- Colin (2/5): - The property cancelled on me with no refund or option for rescheduling after my travel companion fell ill, despite communicating that I’d be refunded.
- Sarah (10/5): Excellent service - There was a mix up with our room and they took care of it immediately and with grace.
- James (10/5): - Beautiful Old Century Home with character. Nice Yoga Studio and one of the best Continental Breakfasts!
- natalie (10/5): - We had a great stay at the inn. JB and Matt were awesome, very accomadating and personable. Although we didnt have time to indulge in all the amenities this time around, we will definitely be returning :]
- Stephen (10/5): - We spent one awesome night there. The temp was about -10 so we didn't go outside unless it was absolutely necessary. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The bed's mattress was super comfy. The lounge was warm and receiving. This is definitely my go to Inn when I'm up in the Kingsfield area.
- Liesl (10/5): - Beautiful with friendly staff
- Cindy (10/5): - Cute bar and lobby area; friendly staff; clean nicely renovated Barn
- Thomas (10/5): - I'm hesitant to leave a review, because I loved it and - selfishly - I want to make sure there's vacancy next time I'm in the area.
Super cool old Victorian house with a modern great room and bar. We stayed in the newly renovated barn. The rooms were clean, quiet, and comfortable and the water pressure was great.
Also, the price fixe dinner was dynamite.
Great place, great new owners (I think they bought it in May 2022), great proximity to Sugarloaf (~25 minutes).
Highly recommended.
- Jason (10/5): - Great cozy little place. Rooms were new and clean. Staff were very friendly.
- Steve (8/5): Nice newly-renovated inn, great service - Great place & experience, just renovated, nice lobby & relaxation areas, good bar & couch lounge. There were a couple of issues which the owner took care of right away & proactively gave us a healthy discount - problems were very well-handled, and we look forward to staying there again.
- Zane (10/5): - Wonderful!
- Fabian (10/5): - JB and Matt are the best hosts !! They make the experience whole !
The 5 course dinner was outstanding!! The recommended wine pairing was superb!!
Great ambience throughout the whole weekend…thanks so much !!
Just a little piece of advise, the mattresses need to be updated to have a complete sleep experience. Thanks!!
- Randall (6/5): - Pros: Very kind staff. Clean, very newly remodeled property.
Creakiest beds imaginable; literally had to put the mattress in the floor. The heater is a pain to use. "Free breakfast" = disappointing coffee and bagels with butter and strawberry jam only. Extremely limited food options nearby - nothing open past 9pm.
Overall, I would avoid this area in the future.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Pretty place, lacking amenities - To be honest, we expected it to be much better than what it was.
Our room look like a college dorm, with very minimal furnishings. No closet, no TV, no amenities that you would expect to have at a hotel.
The bed was insanely squeaky and we had a fitful night.
- ZHIRONG (2/5): - Bad attitude and rude staff. I didn’t find anyone when I need to some water. She told my son that we couldn’t use their hotel room. Just coffee, three bad bananas for breakfast.I think they are so polite people who have racial discrimination.I will report this hotel
- Katrina (8/5): - The property was very interesting and beautiful. The floor in our room was quite dirty, though.
- Judy (10/5): Skiing at Sugarloaf - Comfortable, cozy room in the addition "barn" of an old inn. Antiques galore! Upscale local bar and could include dinner if you made advance reservations. We were skiing at Sugarloaf which was about a 15-minute ride to the mountain. Both microwave and mini-frig were included in the room. The staff was awesome and we totally enjoyed our stay!
- Anita (2/5): - A dirty spot next to a single wide mobile home where the service was dismissive and the rooms were from the 70’s.
- Robert (6/5): - The building is dinghy and in need of a serious updating. Not sure if the towels were fresh.
- Joel (10/5): - Very nice inn. Nice staff; good bar. The food is excellent; Chef-in-training Linda can really cook. Odd that they serve so few guests for dinner as they have many rooms with tables. Owner John is a very interesting person. Only drawback was hearing water pipes through the walls.
- James (10/5): Victorian meets Modern - Fantastic Inn! The decor was all spot on and the building itself is amazing. The pressed tin ceilings and furniture was all period and really transported you back in time. Modern bar with fantastic cocktails! The "Shrub" mixers they use were unique and delicious. 4-course dinner was also amazing. Only thing to keep in mind is this building is old, so don't expect adaptability to our electronic lives..
- Vince (10/5): - Staff went above and beyond! Beautiful place and really inviting lounge.
- David (10/5): - Dinner at Inn was great, bar was a plus for a Inn.
Rooms were a little rough, beds could be updated.
- Robert (10/5): - Typical New England Inn. Owners are very friendly.
- Robin (10/5): Nice for romantic weekend near Sugarloaf - Booked this weekend stay for my daughter and her husband, and they really enjoyed it! They were disappointed they couldn't get a reservation for dinner but otherwise enjoyed the Inn.
- carlos (8/5): - The place is very quiet and relaxing.
- Debra (10/5): - Very friendly and accommodating!
- Maxwell (8/5): - My stay at the Inn on Winters Hill was overall a great experience! Cute location and building. Nice little bar area and the coffee was even hot when I arrived just after 10pm
Only downside being the clear signs of age/needing an update and odor removal.
- Austin (10/5): - Absolutely amazing place to stay. Very clean and John was super friendly. Would stay again and reccomend to friends. Great location walkable to multiple restaurants and close to Sugarloaf for skiing
- Adrian (2/5): - Room was dirty and smelled like it was recently a smoking room. The carpets were stained, everything was out dated and it was not as advertised on the pictures that were displayed on the website.
- Robert (2/5): Rotten hotel - This place had so much dirt on floor and very little beds. Not Queen size as add said
- christophe (10/5): - Great!
- Sarah (8/5): Beautiful space, wonderful food! - Fabulous lobby and bar. We had the on site dining option and it was wonderful. My only complaint is the mattresses. They were just terrible—hard and squeaky. Please replace the mattresses and we will be back!
- Darrell (8/5): short stay - Clean, comfortable room/bed. Love the flannel sheets.
- Kevin Douglas (10/5): - Beautiful meal, wonderful room. Very happy. We will be back.
- Austin (10/5): - Great spot and staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Inn on Winter’s Hill is an unparalleled gem.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - owner is great and a fantastic cook
we were just passing through wish we could have stayed longer
- Lydia (10/5): Hidden Gem of Carrabassett Valley - I love staying at the Inn on Winters Hill. The rooms are cute and cozy. For whatever reason, I seem to sleep better here. It is just a welcoming and relaxing place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly owner, easy to check-in and out. Free coffee in the morning, good parking.
- Linda (8/5): Ski vacation - We enjoyed the comfortable room with a Queen bed. The lobby was nice and warm to hang out in, with a fireplace. Dinner was delicious with generous portions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay. Relaxed and original. Great drinks and atmosphere. Wish we had tried the dinner!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Charming inn located near all the winter sports in Kingfield and Carrabassett Valley. The lounge in particular was very nice.
- Alex (10/5): - Very nice cozy place, feels like in a mansion the way it decorated including all rooms with beautiful area around and places to seat outside
- Tim (10/5): - Everything was wonderful. The owner is very nice and acomadating.
- david (10/5): - It was a great historic building, the owner is a very charismatic guy, lots of information, very enjoyable stay
