Guest Reviews
- Victor (10/5): - Great tour of the Castle.
- Graham (9/5): -
- Louise (10/5): - Warm welcome. Lovely comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast
- Farrer (10/5): -
- Gill (9/5): Excellent stay - Location, peace Guests are asked to strip the bed before leaving- an inappropriate request
- Helen (9/5): Lovely cultural stay in a great location for further exploring - Superb breakfast with a delightful welcome in a beautiful setting. Relaxed and comfortable room supplied with nice details about the castle. Great spot with easy access to the town and cinema just 10 minutes away. Nothing really.
- Alun (10/5): Great stay in a lovely place - Lovely room Nothing
- Mary (8/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): -
- David (6/5): Confusing designation as a b& b. - Food quality Basic. Service generally very good. Very difficult car park and worried we would not get a space.
- Gwen (10/5): Lovely. I would recommend. - Everything! I had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Turning into the car park is definitely a challenge but the instructions give you due warning.
- Marcus (9/5): -
- Pauline (10/5): - We like everything about Cardigan Castle hence having been 8 times and booked for later .it is ideally situated at the bottom of a very interesting town, lots of independent shops .
. It is a good centre for the coast north and south. The rooms are very comfortable very warm. And the breakfast is superb in the restaurant .Staff very pleasant and helpful .even the gardeners who have given us good tips . Theres nothing we dont like
- Jean (8/5): Visited friends which was lovely but too exhausting for our age. - Good breakfast, helpful staff
Nice grounds
Clean rooms etc After visiting friends we returned at 9.0 at night to find the main gate padlocked and no way to get back to our accommodation so we had to go back down to the car park & walk around the castle which is a long way for us as we are both in our 80s and infirm then we had to walk up 2 flights of stairs to our room.
I am awaiting heart surgery and wish we had been made aware of all the walking & stairs before we booked .
We will not return for that reason.
- Lee R C Wilkes (8/5): Great location, great value, and a rather unique place to stay. - Great value, and a brilliant location. Staff all very friendly, the breakfast was good (although limited choice), there was plenty of space in the cottage, and there was free parking (although it was pretty full and a free-for-all on who parked where). The furniture could do with updating at some stage, as the sofas were pretty well collapsed. We had a problem with the cottage not being properly cleaned when we arrived, but it was sorted out quickly. Neither of these would put us off staying again - it really is a lovely unique place to stay, and great value.
- Gordon (8/5): - Located within the confines of the historic castle, the location was excellent. The included breakfast was complete and served in a room overlooking the lawn and garden.
- David (10/5): - Great location, comfortable and quiet.
- Lynsey (10/5): -
- Richard (10/5): Staff location could not ask for more - Everything you could not find fault with anything
- Christian (9/5): Historic accomodation in very picturesque surroundings. - Catdigan Castle is a historic place that has kept its medieval aura once you get in. The staff were very helpful, however, the ‘automated’ process could probably be made a tad easier and less complicated.
It is a pity that the restaurant was closed after lunch, although there were good alternatives nearby. Automated processes can go haywire if one piece of information doesn’t flow as it should, which was the case with us. Rework processes or do it ‘the traditional way’ would be my advice.
The staff is lovely and helpful, so I would establish a personal contact right from the start.
- john (9/5): A Cardigan Gem! - We stayed in room 4 in the East Wing which was spacious and the bathroom huge. The bed was really comfortable. Easy access to the comfortable lounge and the communal kitchen was fitted with all modern appliances and everything you could wish for if you were self catering. The grounds were beautiful and the restaurant 1176 served fabulous breakfasts - not open for evening meals. The included Castle tour was a bonus. We liked everything.
- Paula (9/5): Lovely stay in Cardigan Castle, fantastic staff, really Weldon’s helpful. Will definitely be back. - It was clean and cosy, with a great view Nothing
- Katie (9/5): Beautiful room. Exceptional breakfast with lovely staff. - Quirky
- Donna (10/5): Highly recommended - Our stay was superb and looking forward to our next break . Our accommodation was wonderful, clean and spacious. We enjoyed exploring the castle grounds and a wonderful breakfast at the restaurant There was nothing we didn’t like , everything was fabulous
- matt (5/5): Not again - I’m local so it was a night away from the building works!! 1.rooms on booking don’t com mention sofa/tea&coffee etc. nothing is mentioned about ur room sharing kitchen/sitting facilities with up to 6 other people. The photo shows a sofa. This is for general use. You could be in the kitchen eating and 6 strangers walk through!! Rooms poorly finished but it was called heritage when in fact it was “nans furniture that even charity shops won’t take these days. Breakfast was adequate. I’m sure tourists would say wow, living in the area this was economy sausage/bacon etc. locally sourced but there is soo much better everywhere
- verity (10/5): Exceptional stay in impressive surroundings - Really well appointed in the beautiful grounds of the Castle. The room was clean and comfortable with good facilities. The breakfast was excellent and all the staff we met were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. Nothing
- Dagmar (9/5): -
- Nia (8/5): It was really lovely overall and we would recommend staying here. - Breakfast was in a pretty location and good choice generally. The room was spacious and there was access to the castle gardens throughout the stay which was an excellent addition. We enjoyed exploring the grounds and would recommend here to others. We were in the attic room which was really spacious and lovely but a small window and it got a bit hot in the night.
Limited vegan options for breakfast (jam on toast and non dairy milk on request.)
- Frank (9/5): - Beds comfortable. Breakfast lovely The postcode didn't match the parking. Gate lock instructions not clear
- coleen (10/5): - Everything was perfect. The room was a great size even for 4 people, comfortable and had all the required amenities. The site is beautiful and breakfast was lovely.
- Robert (8/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Marie (10/5): Relaxed stay in beautiful setting. - Lovely comfortable room, gorgeous setting and really friendly and helpful staff.
- richard (10/5): -
- Graeme (8/5): Definitely worth a stay! - A fabulous place to stay - we had the very top room and it was rather warm. It was the only room on that level. Room was beautiful though! Just had to open the window! Nothing - grounds are fabulous and the breakfast delicious!
- Hawkins (10/5): - Really happy we booked here fir an overnight stay. The room was lovely, clean spacious abd with its own litting room. Breakfast was amazing. Staff both in reception and at breakfast were extremely helpful. Thank you all.
- Nerys (9/5): -
- annette (9/5): brilliant venue shame about access instructions - the location, the beauty, the staff and proximity to town the instructions were awful. they didn’t tell us the room was outside of the castle and it took 45 mins to actually find it with the help of other residents. such a shame because it’s so worth going to
- Kathryn (9/5): -
- Julia (9/5): Great location and friendly staff. - Very good instructions sent in time about parking and location. Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, nice room. Great stopping place for doing the Pembrokeshire coastal Path. Duvet too hot!
- Susan (10/5): Great location, room was spotless ,staff couldn't have been more helpful. - The room was spotless ,beautiful locstion ,all staff went out of their way to help. Nothing to fault.
- Dafydd Iwan Gari (9/5): -
- laviers (9/5): Delightful accommodation in a central location. - Central position in town Nothing.
- wellermj (9/5): -
- John (9/5): - Location accomodation was first class clean comfortable and relaxing
Thank You to Veronica who was very helpful and staff at breakfast they were all freindly and professional I would highly recommend this accomodation to family and friends
- Sharon (8/5): Clean, comfortable, staff amazing - The room was very clean, bed was super comfortable, location excellent, breakfast amazing, staff friendly and extremely helpful. No television in the room. The one in the communal area was not ideal, wouldn't feel comfortable watching there and the seating needed to be moved to watch the tele.
- Angela (9/5): Stylish, beautiful, comfortable place to stay - The place, the room and ease of exploring the town and joining the coastal path. Friendly staff, nice breakfast.. Would have liked plain yoghurt on offer without asking for it!
- LIZ (10/5): Excellent! Will be booking again next year - The castle and ground were absolutely perfect for the location.
Very pretty setting and close to everything. Staff in the cafe /restaurant were really friendly and polite. Lovely choices for breakfast Only minor detail but the bathroom smelt a bit fousty in the morning. Apart from that , everything was great.
- tattoo dragon (10/5): Great stay.. - Great welcome by host, shown to our room and explained car parking code for gate.
Room was clean and tidy, very spacious with separate shower room...
Good choice of breakfast, cereal fruit and yogurts.
- Hefyn (9/5): Very good - Clean
Good location
Good facilities
Comfy bed
Good shower
Good parking
Pretty place
Good instructions in email Breakfast was average, friendly staff though. Poor choices for continental
- Evan (10/5): - History, location, roomy
- David (9/5): All very good - Great service from staff.
Good breakfast. Reception staff helpful.
Parking good
Entrance a bit tight
Castle location really good. Very difficult to find fault with the accommodation
- David (10/5): Absolutely fine - perfect for my requirements - Breakfast was absolutely fine, possibly an improved quality of muesli? Nothing really except for the comment under "Breakfast"
- helen (8/5): -
- Laura (10/5): Great choice of stay. - Beautiful castle grounds.
Lovely room nice and quiet with little seating areas. Great shower nice to have water, tea & coffee plus biscuits.
Had a wonderful breakfast. Absolutely nothing
- Daryl (9/5): A characterful and friendly place to stay, in the heart of one of Wales' best county towns. - Breakfast was excellent both mornings. Loved the location in the town and within the castle grounds. The room was well appointed. The staff were very friendly indeed. We have a very warm Cardi welcome. The bed was a little too soft for me and the chairs in the room - they were reproduction medieval I believe- were too low to sit in comfortably. I guess people were shorter in 1066 or whenever.
- Jayne (10/5): -
- Mark Pennant (10/5): -
- Richard (8/5): -
- Steve (9/5): - No TV in room so able to totally relax!
- Noel (8/5): Relaxing and quiet - The breakfast was great choice for our needs. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and informative. Parking was easy and the venue a central location for the trips we wanted to do. We stayed in a room called Yr Copa, the room was good, but the one let down, because it was an ex attic there was was only one small window, which resulted in very little natural light and because of the blind no ability to open it for fresh air.
- Nigel (10/5): Everything was spot on -
- KEVIN (9/5): - Location and how peaceful it was Nothing
- Jed (10/5): -
- Lee (10/5): -
- Samantha (10/5): - Great location within the castle grounds
- John (8/5): - Excellent breakfast NO coffee tea making facilities in the room
- Shan (10/5): - Amazing! Spotlessly clean. Beautifully decorated. Super comfy beds. Huge room. Lovely location within the castle walls with beautiful gardens. Free parking and friendly staff. Definitely recommend this place. Nothing.
- liz (9/5): - The uniqueness of staying within the castle walls. It was a fab location just off high street and great base to explore Cardigan bay. Wonderful breakfast and very helpful staff.
- Llew (10/5): - Accommodation was Lovely. Clean and comfortable. BEAUTIFUL location
- Theresa (10/5): Great location and friendly staff. - Perfect location and with a secure car park.
Great breakfast. All the staff we met were very helpful and friendly.
- Amanda (9/5): Beautiful historical accommodation in a Castle. - Beautiful historical setting, loved the East wing as it had self catering facilities but still had ensuite bathrooms. Breakfast in 1176 was superb. Room was very nice, clean and comfortable 👌
- Bethan (8/5): Lovely stay - Big spacious room, more like a little apartment! Very impressed with the location and grounds. Easy check in with keysafe and clear instructions on how to park and how to get in out of hours. Very good price considering everything. The bed was a little too firm for me and my partner personally. It was a little disappointing that we couldn't watch tv in bed as it was in the sitting area and we couldn't see the TV from the bed. The doors were quite heavy which woke me in the middle of the night when my partner went to toilet, he did try to close them gently but it was impossible. I do understand this though as they are fire doors. There were only small things I could nitpick about, but overall it was lovely and I would definitely stay again.
- Caroline (8/5): Perfekte Übernachtung gutes Frühstück - Wunderschöne renovierte Burg einfach ein Traum !! Bei der Unterkunft was alles in Ordnung nur in der Stadt selber war es nicht sehr aufregend
- neil (10/5): - Everything was excellent, room location, breakfast too.
- Susan (9/5): Comfortable, clean and warm. -
- Jengya (1/5): Disappointed. - The suite looked lovely on the website in the pictures. No email with instructions on passcode to get in after 4pm. Rang a number on wall outside & eventually someone found us our booking & gave us the code. No heating in room upon arrival, wind howling through windows, sat in our coats shivering. Half n hour till Duty manager came, took an hour to tell us thermostat had been turned down week before & that was only after my husband went looking for him! Said it would warm up soon.
It did but only a little & that was 2 hrs later! We were looking to see if anywhere was open to buy a heater it was that cold. 7 degrees outside that night! Then heating didn't come on in morning, so freezing again!
Not offered a heater or another room, yet place was quiet.
In room 5 hrs with no heat whatsoever.
Saw a manager next morning who said she understood, she would feel the same & was going to look for us before we left to offer a refund, but we had asked to see her first. They said they had contacted a heating company to look at it that day. Wanted to refund by me sending my bank details via email as booking.com would take too long. We opted to do it through booking.com. But explained it spoilt our last night in Wales & would rather of had a warm room. But accepted it as a goodwill gesture & thought she actually cared.
Had to contact booking.com as heard nothing a week later. Now booking.com say they were unable to reach an agreement with Cardigan castle. So she lied to our faces. They took our money & we got to freeze for the night !
Would not recommend & will be pursuing this further. Turns out council owns the place, so explains a lot really.
Local newspaper next, social media & tourist offices. People need to be warned. I'd hate anyone to experience sitting shivering like we were. It was awful. Have never experienced anything like it on booking.com before.
- Stephen (9/5): Clean and spacious accommodation to a high standard. - Very clean and spacious accommodation. Extremely convenient for town and local amenities. Well equipped and to a high standard. No parking on site, but usually available free on the road. Just a little uncertainty about parking as a result, but didn’t spoil the over all experience.
- Deborah (10/5): - Luxurious and spacious room. Amazing welcome from all staff. Stunning breakfast and Sunday lunch. Nothing at all.
- Karen (10/5): Lovely stay really enjoyed it. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends. - It was different to a B&B much better staying in the castle grounds. Lovely The codes but I understand why and soon gone used to it.
- Paul (10/5): Good location, very clean with great facilities - Everything above Nothing
- Amanda (10/5): Very Comfortable, great location, Quiet - Slept so well, bed was really comfy, coach house was really lovely would stay again
- Lesley (10/5): It was my partner's 80th birthday weekend and it was perfect. - Beautiful location. Choice of breakfast. Beautifully cooked and presented. Staff extremely welcoming. Decaf tea wasn't very nice. Being picky but you asked the question. If we returned it would be easy enough to bring our own teabags.
- stephen (10/5): Stay was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly..we will be back!!:-) - the locationd was ideal...breakfast was lovely, very tasty!! Satisfactory at all levels!
- Michael (8/5): We would stay again - great - Facilities, general cleanliness, breakfasts, location, quality of towels, fixtures and fittings, etc. All minor suggestions:
1. Slight grout mould in shower & cobweb in bathroom.
2. Info on local evening eating options and things to do in and around Cardigan.
3. Info on office opening times, etc. Because we "pre-registered" we never met or spoke to anyone other than the lovely breakfast staff.
- John (5/5): Comfortable but basic - Lovely building rooms where clean but basic The building
- Michelle (10/5): Great location - All staff i interacted with in passing were lovely. We arrived late so didnt meet check in staff. Lovely young lady at breakfast and a gentleman walking the grounds spoke to us about the house , both very friendly 😀 lovely room on top floor, check in after hours is easy with a key lock. Everything was fine. However, anyone elderly or with mobility issues,, the top floor room is a hike with luggage so I'd request first floor, not as many stairs
- Ian (10/5): -
- Susan (8/5): Comfy accommodation and nice breakfast and would recommend to friends . - Exceptionally clean accommodation . Comfy bed . Great location . Very nice breakfast .
Great to look around the castle and Barbara Woods home . Thank you for a lovely one night stay . Car park difficult to drive into .
Would have liked a lamp in sitting area as I’m an insomniac and was awake from 2 am onwards but no lamp , only ceiling light which would have disturbed husband 😩
- Garnham (10/5): - Everything was amazing location, host, rooms The breakfast was awful. Eggs like rubber, rest luke warm
- Julie (10/5): -
- Garnham (9/5): - The accomodation was amazing Only let down by the worst breakfast. Was shockingly bad
- Emma (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend - Breakfast was lovely We were given the wrong key code for the gate and the door . We had to phone the number provided to get into the property.
- Helen (1/5): -
- Geraldine (9/5): Really enjoyed it . Great location. Looked around the castle grounds and house afterwards as included in the stay. - The history and location. We had a room on second floor which was lovely and very comfortable but very small windows .
Loved everything else about the room and staff and breakfast was excellent.
- Judy (9/5): -
- Susanne (10/5): -
- Kathryn (9/5): Great accommodation in a wonderful location. - Breakfast excellent Nothing of note thankfully although disappointed that we couldn’t get an evening meal in Cardigan on the Sunday evening
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Gavin (8/5): -
