Guest Reviews
- Jackie (9/5): - Beautiful old building; fabulous staff; great restaurant and bar; excellent breakfast; location was good and close to public pathways for exploring the countryside. Would highly recommend. Wifi was dismal.
- CAMILLA (10/5): - Ottima posizione centrissimo, molto caratteristico in stile Cotswold ottima colazione Colazione non inclusa
- Scott (10/5): Very professional staff and great room - Very nice All good
- natasha (10/5): -
- Robert (10/5): Beautiful hotel - definitely recommend booking - The location, staff were amazing. The hotel has it all, great food, drinks and brilliant service in the restaurant. The room was a great size, super king bed and well appointed bathroom Nothing
- Nabarro (10/5): -
- BRUCE (9/5): The Sheep is smart, comfortable as well as good value. Its worth a stay there. - The Sheep has a nice ambiance, smart, clean and very comfortable, our room (No 8) was a good size with coffee/tea making facilities and some delicious cookies, very good shower and comfortable bed. The food and service were really good with all the staff being friendly and attentive; I recommend the Steak & Ale pie as well as the Linguini. It’s an easy short walk into Stow. Our room was at the front so looked out onto the road but traffic noise was not a problem. We found a space in the car park which is a bonus as Stow does get very busy. We’ll be going back sometime for sure. It worked for us :-)
- Trudi (7/5): Wonderful. Would come again. - The location was fabulous in the heart of the town.
The rooms were well appointed. Cosy rooms. We couldn’t get in for a meal for a couple of the nights as the restaurants were booked for bank holiday.
- Andrea (9/5): -
- Dec Alto 1 (10/5): Nostalgic return for a special anniversary - We first stayed at this hotel on our Honeymoon 30 years ago, the returned 13 years after where the facilities and hotel had sadly deteriorated. Following a change of ownership and development the hotel is again a gem The rooms have been renovated to a high specification as has the bar and dining area. The staff were polite and efficient. There isn't anything to comment on.
- Adam (9/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): Lovely stay from beginning to end, nice to walk out of your hotel without needing to drive. Nice bar, rooms comfortable - Great location, easy to get about on foot close by or to drive to other villages very easily. We were upgraded on arrival which was very kind & our room location was excellent on ground floor just to the side of the beer garden. It was nice to purchase drinks from the bar & take them across to the room, we even borrowed Scrabble & Connect 4 ! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms lovely & clean Couldn’t really fault this property 😊
- Ian (9/5): -
- Pauline (10/5): Was warmly welcomed firstly by Bar staff then by reception staff nothing was too much trouble had a lovely comfortable r - Totally in keeping with all that is the Cotswolds Nothing
- Rachel (8/5): A friendly, inviting, comfortable stay. - Great location. Parking available if you turn up in the morning. Friendly and super helpful staff. Lovely bathrooms, showers were amazing, warm towel rail. Room 10 had a window in the bathroom with was lovely. I had an issue with our first room being to hot and stuffy, this was dealt with straight away and we were allocated a different room My main meal was wrong snd had to be corrected twice. Glasses are a bit grubby in restaurant and rooms. Shower cap, slippers etc would be a nice touch as they are not cheap rooms.
- Joanne (10/5): Cute Hotel in Good Location - The staff were friendly and welcoming. Loved the decor and the food was scrummy!!! Wi-fi was a bit of a pain dropped out a few times. Car park was only small.
- Emma (7/5): - It’s in a great spot Overpriced and was very noisy in the room at night. No bubble bath even though you have a bath in your room, for £400 a night you would think you would. No breakfast included.
- euge6525 (10/5): Highly recommend The Sheep - We stayed two nights here 23rd and 24th of February 26 . The ‘winter’ offer from Honeycomb Houses was exceptional value. Everything was so good from the welcome on arrival to the farewell when we checked out. Staff are universally friendly , helpful, hard working ,efficient and all added greatly to our thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay. The food was great , truly top quality dinner and breakfast. The room (18) was comfortable , clean and spacious. Ellie was excellent each night at dinner , friendly and really efficient .She enhanced our enjoyment of the meals on the two nights . Scott was great each morning at breakfast. He was also friendly efficient and enhanced our stay greatly. The two night stay in Stow was the perfect unwind for two NHS nurses who were quite worn out after an exceptionally busy Christmas and January in our working lives. Thanks to all at The Sheep. We look forward to our next stay. I can wholeheartedly recommend The Sheep to anyone wishing to visit this beautiful part of the World.
- Mark (10/5): Exceeded expectations and made us both happy - Clean welcoming and contemporary decorated to a high standard Bar had a great vibe as was busy in the evening so service was a little slow at times. However the food was excellent
- Susan (10/5): Beautiful rooms ! - Just a glorious place
- Alison (10/5): Perfect get away - When we arrived we had a lovely welcome from the lady on the desk who was also kind enough to help with our cases. After a walk around Stow we went into the bar area of the hotel to have a drink before getting ready for our meal. The staff were efficient and the atmosphere was relaxing as the fire was burning. We had our meal at the hotel and the food was delicious and service personal. Then in the morning we had breakfast which was full English and again the food was very tasty and the lady whosever us was friendly. Great stay! N/A
- Couple 65+_UK (10/5): - Travelling with pet dog.
Room very comfortable and clean.
Great Shower & Bathroom
Nice Breakfast.
Had an evening meal which we enjoyed.
All staff were great.
- Caroline (9/5): Perfect. Will definitely be back - Super cosy room, huge bed and great shower. Really nice and quiet despite being central. Great location. There was only 1 1/2 biscuits for 2 of us in the little gift from the chef!
- Matthew (8/5): Wonderful location, great atmosphere, would definitely return - Clean, modern and in a fantastic location N/A
- sparx2016 (10/5): Very impressed - Lovely place to stay, very pleased with the room lovely and clean
Food beautiful
Staff very welcoming and friendly
Would definitely highly recommend this place to stay
Special mention to Sarah who went above and beyond for us and also Amelia for her assistance, its staff like these people that makes people revisit!
Sarah you are a legend!
- Alessia (10/5): Bellissimo soggiorno - Struttura davvero molto carina, camere belle e dotate di tutti comfort. Parcheggio disponibile dietro la struttura. Posizione eccellente.
Al pub sotto si mangia molto bene, anche a colazione, e si bevono ottimi cocktail. ♥️ Staff gentilissimo!
- Carol (9/5): - Room was lovely, clean and comfortable. Everything seemed brand new. Great location.
- Max (9/5): - The hotel is in a super central location. I also received a room upgrade when I arrived - which was spacious, with a very comfortable king size bed, and lovely bathroom. The breakfast was also nice. Would definitely come back
- Trail11506430066 (10/5): We will return - The room and expecially the shower were lovely.
Very friendly service
Breakfast was also nice
Thank you for our stay. We will return
Mel& Hilarie
- Gazzacoys70 (10/5): - Lovely place to stay and close to all amenities staff was very friendly and happy Shame that we couldn't have dinner their
- Lorraine (10/5): Great hotel and fabulous food - Decor and restaurant
- Paul (10/5): -
- Jessica (6/5): We had a nice time and the location was good but we would choose other local hotels for the price - On arrival we were pleased with the hotel and our room. It was in a good location and the room was nicely done and seemed cosy and comfortable. The bed was a good size and comfortable. The bathroom had a nice big bath. Our trip was for my husbands 40th and they had left a bottle of Prosecco in the room which was a nice touch. The restaurant and bar are lively with a good atmosphere, live music and good food. We paid for the top level room at a cost of nearly £650 for 2 nights. We felt this didn’t represent good value for money as the hotel room didn’t seem very clean (we found a toenail on the floor and behind the bedside tables and around the bed was thick with dust), the shower in our room was also rubbish. The water pressure was terrible and kept going cold, I was pleased to get home to my own shower. The service at breakfast was very slow, on the second morning it took nearly 20 minutes until we were even offered tea and coffee. We have stayed in other hotels in Stown that cost the same that we would rather go back to unfortunately. We did leave this feedback with the hotel on checkout and the (very nice) receptionist said they would get in touch, but we have been back a week and have not nears anything which is a shame.
- Ross (9/5): A good stay, would stay again - Very central and well designed and decorated. Room was perfect for a one night stay and was in the main building of the hotel. It offered a lovely view to the outside. With the room being in the main building, it was loud with music playing until 11:30 downstairs.
- Cara (9/5): -
- Shane (8/5): Excellent hotel in the heart of Stow on the Wold. - Excellent location. Lovely, welcoming and warm staff. Parking is tricky and limited during busy periods. The room was hot even with the radiator turned off.
- Shaun (10/5): -
- Nichola (9/5): - It was all lovely
- Kathryn (10/5): Had a fabulous stay here, would definitely recommend the restaurant and the hotel - Beautiful rooms, friendly staff, great food.
Enjoyed everything about our stay at this hotel
- Mayu (6/5): Nice looking hotel, rooms are an ok standard, but you’re paying a premium for the location. - Excellent location, I suppose this is what you’re paying for. Staff were friendly. Room was clean enough, but only just. When I turned on the bathroom extractor fan, the thick layer of dust that was covering the blades blew everywhere. The tv signal was poor, so unwatchable at times. Food in the restaurant was very average
- Jack (10/5): -
- Sophie (9/5): -
- Grace (10/5): Definitely will be returning - Beautifully styled and great location. Excellent food
- Matthew (8/5): - Great location, nice clean rooms & friendly staff Fair bit of noise early morning which wasn’t ideal
- Zameer (9/5): -
- Yi (4/5): -
- Suzanne (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): I would happily stay here again - Clean, charming room with an excellent shower. The food in the restaurant was also above my expectations. We were charged £3.00 extra for 2 additional pieces of toast with the (dinner) starter--this seemed excessive
- Gary (10/5): Amazing hotel located in a beautiful village , will go again if in that area. - The hotel is situated perfectly in the centre of the village and opposite a lovely Inn. The food at the hotel was gorgeous especially the breakfast. The room was so amazing and we had a fabulous sleep.
The area itself is divine.
- Romano (10/5): -
- Richard (7/5): - Room was dark - little natural light
- Jason (9/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Perfect, highly recommended - Friendly staff, all very pleasant and helpful. Upgraded room, and it was fabulous. Comfortable bed. Nothing
- Ryan (10/5): Great stay - Perfect location, clean and very cosy Loved everything, definitely love to stay again
- Yi Meng (8/5): - Lovely hotel, nice cozy room, helpful staff Internet was unstable
- Lois (10/5): -
- Philip (9/5): Very enjoyable. If we return to the Cotswolds , we will choose to stay with you - Good room , service and breakfast
- Sarah (10/5): Excellent hotel, friendly staff and cosy bedrooms - Cosy vibe with modern touches. The bed was very comfortable
- Han Na (9/5): Amazing staff and super accommodating! Would come again -
- stuart (8/5): -
- Ed (8/5): A super short break in the very cold Cotswolds. - Great, clean hotel with good facilities.
Il costo è decisamente elevato rispetto all'offerta.
- Chris (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyable visit. - Clean, friendly & olde world / modern mix. Reception check in was slow (only 1 staff member available) to check in 16 guests.
Drink prices were a bit steep, even for a Cotswold hotel.
- durga (10/5): Loved It! And will be Back! - We loved everything about our stay at the Sheep-on-Sheep Street Hotel. The room was cozy and comfortable for three of us and at a great location. Even better in-person than on-line. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the restaurant- although must say they get pretty booked up during the holidays. It is a very lively and busy place. Recommend making dinner reservations ahead of time. The receptionist Amy was warm and welcoming and helpful all the way through -- with the many requests we had. From emailing us promptly and resolving an issue when we first made the reservation to a request we had after we left -- with an item that was left behind. Amy went over and beyond and was fabulous. Would definitely return and highly recommend. It is on the main street so may get a bit noisy--but did not bother us.
- Bethany (6/5): -
- Karen (10/5): Wonderful - Lovely hotel and restaurant. Staff all lovely and kind. Couldn’t do enough for you Brilliant
- AntoniaL984 (10/5): Super Hôtel - super beautiful hotel in Stow of the wold, the bed are very comfortable and the bathroom is very modern. Full Breakfast super good and the boss who look like Roger Moore is friendly ! we will come again !
- DavidCabot (10/5): Short break as a birthday treat - Extremely well equipped room and bathroom. Full of character. The restaurant is quite noisy but the food and service were excellent. Breakfast was first rate. Location in the centre of Stow is perfect.
- Jo (5/5): Ok stay. Not the best experience we’ve had in Stow though. - Great location Room was exceptionally small. Couldn’t get out of one side of the bed as it was up against the wall. For a double room, not had this before. Felt it was overpriced for the size of the room.
Quite a wait for checking in and checking out.
Parking very limited.
- jeanette (10/5): Absolutely wonderful from start to finish! - So central, very comfortable excellent facilities and wonderful food. The stairs!
- Liane (10/5): Beautiful hotel friendly atmosphere a jewel of stow in the wild - A lovely quaint hotel very pretty decor for Xmas Bed was quite small for a double
- sharonkX8099KN (10/5): 60th Birthday celebrations Sharon & Kell - We visited for three days as a joint 60th birthday for myself & my husband with my brother & sister in law. We had a wonderful stay. The rooms were immaculately clean & spacious and the bar was extremely lively and full of atmosphere. Scott was our breakfast waiter & could not do enough for us, & the breakfast was delicious. We chose the full English on all three mornings, but there was plenty of other options available. We will definitely be returning again.
- Shaun (9/5): -
- Julie (10/5): Really comfortable and relaxing, we will definitely come again! - The cosyness and atmosphere Nothing
- Valerie (8/5): Lovely hotel in a good location for the Cotswolds. - location of hotel excellent. room very comfortable & spacious & clean. perhaps fresh fruit & croissant on breakfast menu which did have a lot of choice. As our stay was in December we did expect some noise from parties etc. It was my Birthday on 20th December & we chose to eat at The Sheep that night but it was very noisy & couldn't talk to each other. We did eat out at different venues for the next 2 nights.
- Alex (5/5): Overpriced and impersonal. - Cosy room Despite being told via the Booking messaging tool and calling, the hotel failed to even acknowledge that this was our engagement weekend. Every other establishment had been fantastic, but the Sheep really let themselves down.
Also an incredible racket from the blaring music in the restaurant/bar went on far too long for a hotel.
- Sandra (10/5): This was our second visit to The Sheep and will definitely return - Good location clean comfy room and friendly staff Nothing
- Mary (8/5): - Room was very comfortable and location good. Staff very helpful Wifi was not great in our room. Slow
- Clara (9/5): AMAZING! Would stay again cx - The location was excellent, and staff friendly and nice. The little add ons to make you feel welcome really made this stay wonderful! I would definitely recommend and definitely stay again. Music is slightly loud but wasn’t anything crazy, probably would avoid if you are a REALLY light sleeper. Thats genuinely the only negative thing I could say though..
- Wynford (10/5): Excellent location, wonderful staff and cosy, comfortable room - All staff we met were brilliant, very friendly and helpful. We ate dinner in the hotel, good ambience in the dining area, dutiful staff and good meals. Room was warm and cosy, bed comfortable, we slept well Very little really, maybe box of tissues in room.
- zako769 (10/5): Fantastic place - Stayed for one night. I can highly recommend the Sheep. The room was clean, comfortable, cosy and just lovely. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was delicious. Staff were helpful, friendly and our stay was just fantastic. Only regret is we should have taken our dog with us as it was very dog friendly.
We will definitely be back again soon!
- Finness (2/5): Avoid - all show no substance - It was cosy enough The room was filthy, we got the deluxe room with the free standing bath. It was dirty with tons of hairs when we arrived. I had to clean it and the staff didn't bother with following up. Woman was quite stern and not welcoming. The room was baking hot and the worst thing was the light...the curtains aren't flush with the wall so the light glaring in all night..didn't sleep at all.
Photo attached if tons of grime and dirt in the bath when we arrived
- Michael (10/5): Instant relaxation in a luxury setting. - We loved our stay at the Sheep. The staff are great and the hotel is fantastic with a relaxing atmosphere and great food. Location is perfect for seeing Stow and the surrounding Cotswolds. We had a wonderful time and are planning to come back. What's not to like> Nothing. All great. :-)
- YeomanBilly (10/5): Sheep Is A Truly Amazing Find. Great Food And Wonderfully Warm Atmosphere. - An amazingly wonderful venue. Warm, friendly and attentive staff and 5 star food. We visited on Tuesday 9 Dec and 90 mins too early, indeed before they opened! We were welcomed by the owner Scott who sat us near the open fire on very comfortable seating with a hot cup of tea. The wood panelling and open plan decor has a Canadian atmosphere which is hardly surprising given that Scott is Canadian and visited the area 40 years ago and luckily for Stow on the Wold decided to stay.
A lot of time and effort has been taken to ensure a memorable experience. Even the rear courtyard/garden has been designed to provide space and a relaxing atmosphere.
The food and service is exceptional. It's not cheap but you do get excellent value for money, with professional, warm and inviting staff who serve you with a genuine smile.
I'm an old git, veteran and hard to please. If I had experienced poor quality food and/or service at Sheep believe me I would have commented on this site. I recommend this jewel in the crown and invite you to visit Scott and his team of professionals.
- Veronica (8/5): -
- Kathryn (9/5): Perfect location and cosy pub rooms - Great location right on the high street, very cosy well decorated rooms in lovely pub itself with a tasty breakfast. Nothing although parking is a bit tricky as not there are many spaces.
- Taylor (9/5): -
- David (9/5): -
- Nicola (9/5): Nice - Would have liked a little more selection for breakfast, however I understand this could be a cost issue , also missed lunch time and could only order a pizza no snacks or sandwiches? Stated above
- Anna (9/5): Fabulous, will be back. - Fab location, room was perfect for bringing our dog. Make sure you specify when you book. A small thing, but we don’t need quite so much chat to us from the man (staff) at breakfast, can feel like an inquisition when we just want peace when on a break. We opted to eat elsewhere day 2 as a result.
- Jayne (7/5): The location is good not far from the town centre and the bar was lively, food expensive not worthit - The breakfast was tasty. The first breakfast we had on the Monday morning was luke warm and the eggs where boiled not poached, there's not alot of selection no fruit, yoghurt extra toast ie. brown and white. Tues/Wednesday mornings the breakfast was a little warmer and tastier.
- Jimmy (9/5): This was a charming hotel in an excellent location. - The decor was very cozy and charming. The room size was good for two travelers with 1-2 bags each. The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The receptionist/staff woman recommended a very good restaurant that we enjoyed! The water heater or pump was noisy in the bathroom. There wasn't sufficient hot water for two baths but ok for showers. Morning street cleaning or trash service was noisy.
- Christine (9/5): Beautiful hotel warm friendly staff - The room was cosy warm and private The room was a little dark/lighting a little dim which made getting ready for an evening event difficult
- geostergiop (7/5): -
- Desire (10/5): -
- Robert (10/5): -
- Chris (8/5): - Great setting, good restaurant, nice room Room wasn't serviced one day due to staff shortages
Car park really small and awkward
- Raymond (9/5): Relaxing and comfortable - Comfort and cleanliness Not a great range of Lagers
- Tyler (9/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): Cosy room full of character - Cosy room, comfy bed. Very clean and cosy Nothing
