- Somogyi2000A (9/5): - Gewoon zalig. Een vriendelijke en aangename gastvrouw. Prachtige locatie Alles was prima
- Willi (10/5): Ein außergewöhnliches Haus und eine wundervolle Gastgeberin!!! - Alles! Nichts!
- Joanne (10/5): Lovely stay. We were looked after really well. Spacious room, immaculately clean and very comfortable. Cath looked af - Beautiful, comfortable and immaculate
- Chantal (10/5): Amazing!! - We travelled down and stayed at this stunning b & b for a course I was doing. Cath was a wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely and the breakfast was just as good. If we are ever down this area again this would be where we would like to stay. Thank you for a wonderful stay x
- Kathrin (10/5): -
- Alexandre (10/5): We woke-up the dragon - We were on a Rugby vacation. It turned into a beautiful human experience. The host Catherine is witty and charming. Welsh people have plenty of camaraderie to share for the foreigners who enjoy the people and local history. The house is magnificent and ideally located to visit Wales, far enough from the megapole of Cardiff, but close enough to go by train. The rugby game was good for the visitors, not so good for Wales, but that day we woke-up the dragon and we'll be back again to visit it.
- Simon (10/5): - Cath is a super host and made my wife and myself very wecome and relaxed in her immaculate home. Our room was excellent and had a great view over the garden. Breakfast was fabulous and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will book again in the future.
- Darrin (10/5): AMAZING -
- Archer (10/5): - Amazing find. Beautiful and comfortable. Amazing host and delicious breakfast
- Marie (9/5): -
- John (10/5): We had a lovely stay at Gallihaf and would book again. - Room was very comfortable with an excellent bathroom. Very stylish decor. Homemade granola and muffins at breakfast were delicious. Nothing. All excellent.
- David (10/5): Fantastic stay, great location and very friendly owner. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay there again. - Full of character and very friendly owners. Nothing
- sabiha (10/5): Exceptional place to stay - Cath is an excellent host and GH is a beautiful relaxed setting. The breakfast was amazing and Cath went out of her way to make sure we were happy and well fed! It was definitely a luxurious start to our holiday. The home is very clean and beautifully decorated. Caths designs are all around the home and very much loved. That some parts of Wales were not open on a Monday! 😅
- Raqual (10/5): Very welcoming…home from home. - Beautiful inside and out. Friendly owner. Nothing
- Sarah (10/5): - Excellent breakfast
- Samantha (10/5): Could not fault anything. - Everything. This property was stunning. The decor beautiful, the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in and breakfast choice was great. Hosts were so friendly and welcoming . I would definitely recommend a stay here. I will return when I am in the area next.
- Helen (10/5): Catherine and Howard were fantastic hosts, beautiful house and grounds. Thank you for a lovely stay. - Catherine and Howard were fantastic hosts, beautiful house and grounds. Thank you for a lovely stay and we really enjoyed meeting you both!
- Paruljha (10/5): Exceptional - We booked Gellihaf House last minute when another booking in Newport feel through. We couldn't have been more pleased with this. Cath and Howard were welcoming, charming and helped us feel at home immediately. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with all the amenities you could hope for. They went out of their way to provide us with gluten free and vegan breakfast options and it was delicious. Very comfortable bed and pillows with wonderfully curated decorations in the home thanks to Cathy's keen eye and soft furnishing business. We look forward to recommending this stay to all our friends and family.
- Christine (10/5): Fabulous - Beautiful House both inside and out glorious Gardens situated in a good spot we loved everything about it Absolutely nothing
- Kate (10/5): Beautiful , stunning and relaxed . - Cath and Howard are the most welcoming hosts . They made you feel so relaxed in their home. The house is absolutely stunning! You definitely get the wow factor as you are shown around the house. This is the best B&B that we have ever stayed in and will be going back !
- Julie (10/5): Lovely B&B close to Cardiff - I booked a two night stay at Gellihaf House for my daughter who was attending a wedding in Cardiff. She said afterwards that staying there was a highlight of her trip to the UK. It was lovely to stay out of the city in a beautiful house with exquisite gardens, but with a very easy train ride to and from Cardiff. The rooms at Gellihaf House are well equipped, renovated and cosy. But what makes Gellihaf House really special are the hosts who go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and memorable. And of course the deilcious breakfasts...and the homemade bread! Highly recommend to anyone looking to stay near Cardiff. Nothing
- Eilidh (10/5): Lovely stay, Cath and Howard are very welcoming and make you feel at home! Lots of lovely touches. Breakfast was fab too - Welcoming, really comfortable and nice rooms. Very well done up tidy and so clean!
- Maureen (10/5): Cath and Howard are excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. - A stunning well maintained property that had lovely gardens Access tight if approaching with property on the left.
- Clare (10/5): A charming property, ideal for a short break to South Wales. - We wanted a few days away from the city and this delightful rural location was just what we needed. The breakfast was exceptional, from the local bacon and sausages to the delicious homemade bread, granola, muffins and cinamon rolls! Howard and Catherine are wonderful hosts, they gave us some local knowledge that made for a memorable day as we explored Fox Hunter's grave and checked out the spectacular views across to Sugarloaf. When we got back Cath provided us with some deckchairs so we enjoyed a picnic in the Spring sunshine whilst watching a buzzard fly over at the end of a busy day exploring the local area. If you are lucky enough to find any rooms available, go ahead and book - you will be in for a treat!
- P-dot (10/5): Ideal property for a stay - Howard and Cath were welcoming and anticipated all our needs. Room, bed and bath were large and lovely as is the house itself. Breakfast choice great, especially the avocado Chile lime egg toast! It was a trifle hard to enter and leave the driveway but it was workable. My sister-in-law maneuvered it all without complaint.
- Kristin (10/5): Exceptional - Trying to communicate through booking.com did not work for me, I wish I had booked directly thru the host’s website.
- Violeta (10/5): Beautiful stay - The breakfast was 10/10, really recommended! With amazing homemade granola and muffins. Everything else is perfect too, just like the pictures.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (10/5): One of the best B&B we have stayed at. We will certainly return. - The house is beautiful and the garden is lovely. The hosts Catherine and Howard cannot do enough for you and make you feel so welcome. The breakfast is superb. There is nothing to dislike.
- Naomi (10/5): Perfect way to experience Wales! - I liked the location, parking very convenient, my room was excellent, hosts were lovely and welcoming, breakfast was great! Highly recommend this property and can't wait to visit again. I didn't like that I didn't book to stay longer!
- James (10/5): The hosts are welcoming and friendly and went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. - Everything. The room, cleanliness, garden, hosts, breakfast, location…the list is endless Nothing
- David (10/5): Stunning B&B, wonderful hosts. A real treat. - What a beautiful house in a stunning setting. Once here you are lost in another world. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed and the bathroom amazing. Breakfasts were delicious and Catherine and Howard were genial and eager to please and share their knowledge of the area. We can hardly think of anything. Perhaps with the no shoes on the upper floor rule disposable slippers could be provided but not a complaint at all!
- Patricia (10/5): Quality accommodation at affordable prices in a quiet setting. - Loved the peacefulness of the setting. Our room looked out over the garden. The house itself is gorgeous, bed ultra comfortable, furnishings exceptional. Great bathroom. Visitors should note that they need to bring slippers as outdoor shoes not permitted upstairs, this is no problem once you know in advance. Breakfast room light and airy and breakfast is truly delicious. Cath and Howard are great hosts, friendly and knowledgeable. We would strongly recommend Gellihaf House.. We would happily return. Nothing.
A note of caution:the entrance gate is easy to miss and somewhat difficult to exit onto main road because of the angle it is at
- Michelle (10/5): Amazing , comfortable and welcoming - Stunning house in beautiful tranquil surroundings very relaxing , the hosts Cathryn and Howard go above and beyond to make sure you have a great stay , very welcoming . The room was perfect the bed was sooooo comfy slept like babies , and the breakfasts were also made to perfection and the homemade granola was better than any shop bought ones ! Definitely try it if you get the chance , we would not hesitate at all to come back again and will recommend too , just a lovely recharge stay , thankyou ! And just keep doing what your doing it’s great 😊 There was absolutely nothing about the property that we didn’t like
- Jill (9/5): Beautiful house and wonderful Welsh hospitality - The warmest welcome we've ever experienced. Howard and Cath want you to feel right at home as soon as you arrive. Both of them spent time with us separately to introduce themselves and the glorious Gellihaf House. The house is an art and crafts masterpiece which has been authentically restored and exquisitely furnished by the couple. The grounds are gorgeous too.
Loved the homemade breakfasts with freshly made Welsh cakes and blueberry muffins.
Howard and Cath are passionate about sharing their home in such a way you feel part of their story. Absolutely lovely. Thank you!
- Sara (10/5): Felt at home. - Fantastic house/ home, very interesting and has obviously been decorated with great care, thought and love .
- John (10/5): An oasis of exceptional standard within the valley communities of South Wales . - The whole stay was positively different. The house itself is stunning and exceptionally well dressed and cared for. Howard and Cath are no ordinary mine hosts. They really do care and display a genuine interest in their guests. The breakfast is as good as it gets, you would not get better in quality and presentation if you're at the Ritz! The homemade Blueberry Muffins are to die for. Gellihaf House and hosts really do know the true meaning of keeping a welcome in the hillsides and Vales of Wales!!! NIL!!!
- Heather (10/5): Very High Standard Accommodation. - Very welcoming. Stunning property with amazing gardens Catherine & Howard made me feel very welcome in their home. They offered everything I needed. My room was very comfortable and clean. The food was excellent and choice was varied.
- Trishla (8/5): Very good -
- Raina (10/5): Exceptionally beautiful B & B with welcoming and generous hosts. - It is an exceptionally beautiful house with a large garden. The hosts were very welcoming and generous. The breakfast was excellent. -

- Nicola (10/5): Fabulous - a perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of South Wales. - The overall ambience was stunning - a beautiful and fascinating house and garden filled with artefacts that are unique and interesting and allude to the history of the house and the hosts. Smart TV in bedroom!
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional - Overall an exceptional place with wonderful gardens and period interiors. Breakfast was fantastic and the wonderful hosts Cath and Howatd provided a 5 star service. Highly Recommended.
- Colin (8/5): Will return - Great friendly hosts who clearly care about their guests. Home from home. Excellent breakfast. Niggly little things that really didn’t detract from the overall experience
- David (10/5): A Lovely Hotel. - Gellihaf House is beautifully appointed. Catherine is a wonderful host. Breakfast was lovely with freshly made bread. A lovely bedroom to sleep in, with gorgeous views of the garden. Highly recommended.
- Allan (10/5): A relaxing break in our travels - Good central location for events
- David (10/5): Exceptional - I have passed Gellihaf House many times but this is the first time I have stayed there with my partner.
Gellihaf House ticks all the boxes and more. The welcome is warm. The attention to detail is exceptional. The quality of the food is exptional.
Nothing is too much to ask for.
Great location for going into Cardiff, visiting the Brecon Beacons or seeing the Rhymney Valley.
Visit Gellihaf House and see for yourself. Value for money is superb. We will certainly be visiting again.
Cath and Howard are great hosts and should be congratulated on this little gem they have created.
Treat yourselves and visit them. Leaving.
- Steve (10/5): Excellent and will stay again - Howard and Catherine were excellent hosts making my wife and I feel at home.
Breakfast was great with plenty of options from homemade granola with fresh fruit to a full cooked breakfast of your choice.
The location was good as our relatives lived close and there was easy access to major roads.
We would recommend staying here
- Viviane (10/5): One of our favourite B&B ever - This was our first place we stayed in our trip through Wales and we felt like being on vacation right away. The house, garden and the room were gorgeous and dreamy and had lots of little things on display that reflected not just wales but also the hosts character. Catherine and Howard payed a lot of attention in detail when it came to decorating and also their service as hosts. Freshly cooked and diverse breakfast and lovely chats :) When returning to wales, we will come back! Everything was perfect
- Bob (10/5): You just won’t find anywhere better it’s that simple. - The location is excellent, the house exceptional, the hosts, Cath and Howard are brilliant, the food is delicious, the room amazing. The whole package is absolutely perfect. The only part we didn’t like was leaving.
- Christopher (10/5): Absolutely brilliant - Lovely house exceptionally clean and comfortable N/ A
- Carwyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debster75 (10/5): Exceptional - The location is perfect to getting around Wales. It's pretty much central to everywhere. Catherine and Howard are epic hosts, so welcoming and warm. The breakfast is second to none and they cater for all dietary needs. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the house is just a wonder. ..... 🤷
- Karen (10/5): A wonderful B & B, just like a boutique hotel, full of charm, we had an incredibly relaxing stay. - The house is beautiful and you feel like you are in a stately home. The room was large and had everything you needed, the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked with a good selection of options to choose from. So many small details made for a wonderful stay including the heart shaped Welsh cakes left for us. The hosts were engaging and very helpful. Having to leave.
- Alison (10/5): perfect location for my trip to see friends. thakn you for your hospitality . -
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were amazing and catered to our needs, along with making us feel right at home. - Lina-maria (10/5): Exceptional - stunning place to stay, rooms are spacious and i would definitely recommend
- Wallis (10/5): Felt at home with Catherine and Howard and would not hesitate to stay again. - Breakfast was lovely and the table layout and the room was so clean and very well presented. A great start to the day with wonderful hosts. Just couldn’t fault anything. The main thing is how you feel about where you stay and nothing could have been better!! Catherine was lovely and Howard’s a great guy! We felt so welcome to their home and the rooms are spacious and very well furnished. We’ve stayed many places and this is one of the best!!
- George (10/5): Great, will deffo stay again! - Breakfast was fantastic. The house is full of interesting pictures, ornaments and furniture - something interesting or quirky to see on every wall and surface. Beautiful gardens too. Parking on-site behind a locked gate. Catherine and Howard were lovely people to meet. Weather was hot and sticky so we slept with the windows open which meant you could hear a bit of traffic but nothing too bad, and certainly wouldn't put us off staying there again.
- Ka (10/5): Truly the most beautiful and memorable place to stay! - Oh my gosh, where to start! First of all, the Gellihaf House was the MOST enjoyable, bespoke & beautiful place my hubby and I have EVER stayed at. The front garden is gorgeous and there are crazy chickens in the back! The public space on the ground/1st floor is just amazing! So many things to look at and enjoy. Our bedroom and bathroom is pretty much how I wish mine looked like ! The bed was dead comfy with the beautiful cotton sheets, the bathroom couldn't be cleaner if I tried. But the best part of our stay were our hosts, Cathy and Howard. What absolutely lovely, kind, interesting and funny people! Cathy made the most delicious breakfast, I really tried to restrain myself, but I am the reason why the muffins were all gone. The full Welsh breakfast was so delicious - home-grown tomatoes and locally sourced bacon/sausages! I've even booked mum and dad here for when they visit Wales. And next time I see my brother and his family, it will have to be when there is availability at the Gellihaf! Thank you, Cathy and Howard, for the most unforgetable stay ! There was nothing we didn't like. When I found this place on booking.com after seeing the highest guest reviews/score, I shared the link with my family and with my boss at work, because it looked so beautiful. The experience of being there cannot be conveyed in the pictures!
- Timothy (10/5): Great hospitality in a beautiful house. - The very warm personal welcome from Howard and Catherine. The house has been superbly renovated. Out bedroom was spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was delicious with a good range of items and the hot elements cooked to order with local suppliers. It is in an ideal location in the historic Welsh mining area with Caerphilly Castle nearby. The car entrance is best from only one direction.
- Caleb (9/5): Friendly ,pleasant and welcoming . - Breakfasts very good .all you would need or require for breakfast The cooked breakfast was very nice
- Mark (10/5): Perfect getaway close enough to many places to be convenient, but remote enough to feel relaxing - Everything about the stay was exceptional.
Couldn't have asked for friendlier or more accommodating hosts.
Homemade breakfast items were delicious. Absolutely nothing.
- Amalia (10/5): Thank you - Absolutely amazing looking house! Very impressed with the art and décor. Cath and Howard were extremely lovely and helpful.
It was one of the best experiences we had.
- Steven (10/5): Outstanding - Everything, the food, the hospitality My stay was so short
- Karin (9/5): Superb - Being on a Welsh castle tour this felt like staying in a castle! Beautiful decorated house, delicious breakfast, nice hosts. The weather...
- Eva (10/5): Highly recommended! - We had a great stay at Catherine‘s and Howard‘s accomodation. They gave us great tips for the surroundings, made outstanding breakfast and the accomodation itself was very clean, beautiful and makes you experience a real british way of living. We can highly recommend to stay here when in Wales. Thank you Catherine and Howard!
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional B & B - Catherine and Howard was wonderful hosts, they went out of their way to accomdate us and make us feel welcome. The breakfast was exceptional and our room was divine with the most incredible bathroom. We are local and were staying for a wedding, but we most certainly intend to return very soon. Nothing, it was faultless

- Stacey (10/5): A home from home - if home looked that good and I could cook breakfast that well! - Cath and Howard are fabulous hosts and the property itself is amazing. We had a really comfy room, very tasty breakfast and it is in a great location for getting to so many attractions/points of local interest. Nothing
- Jackie (10/5): Fabulous property, lovely rooms and great hosts - Stunning property which you can see has been lovingly restored to a really high standard. charming rooms which are spotlessly clean and a fabulous breakfast!
- Pete (10/5): Great premium b&b, with excellent period decoration. - Great example of how to decorate and furnish a period property. We learnt so much that will help with our own house. Nice owners, good breakfast, great location, will try to visit again this Summer. This won't apply to most people, but I was doing some work while there and the bedrooms could do with a larger table more suitable for a laptop. Maybe with a drop-leaf. I moved the TV to use its table, which is doable but it's a bit small. I have to work in the bedroom, not the main room downstairs, to protect client confidentiality.
- Janet (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (10/5): A stunning and welcoming home that exceeded our expectations - I simply can’t rate Gellihaf house highly enough! From the moment we arrived our expectations where exceeded. The house itself is stunning, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean everywhere. The room was beautiful, spacious and the bed was really comfy. It all felt very luxurious and we didn’t want to leave! The breakfast was absolutely delicious with a range of cereal/granola, fresh fruit and bread, fresh orange juice, tea and coffee and several cooked options. We opted for a full Welsh one day and eggs on toast another day, both days the breakfast was cooked to perfection and delicious. Cath and Howard are so so lovely, the welcome you in like old friends the moment you arrive and make you feel so welcome and comfortable for your entire stay. We will definitely be back and will be recommending a visit to all our friends and family. Nothing! Honestly there was nothing to not like!! The house is beautiful, the food was delicious and the owners where so so lovely, definitely book if you can!
- Leonard (10/5): Simply stunning. - Absolutely everything. The property is fabulous, scrupulously clean, comfortable and fascinating. The hosts could not have been more accommodating, friendly, and willing to assist with any and all queries. Breakfast is prepared and served fresh, and includes local produce and home made bread. Absolutely nothing, other than the fact we only booked two nights!
- Fiona (10/5): Fantastic stay - Great boutique hotel . We stayed 2 nights and Howard and Cath were fantastic hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the attension to detail was at it's best. Breakfast was suberb. We would highly recommend this hotel with local walks and cardiff centre only 20-30minute drive away. Thankyou for the warm welcome, lovely to meet you both.
- Ollysimpson (10/5): Fabulous Stay with Great Hosts xx - Fabulous guest house and fantastic hosts as well xx

Cath & Howard are lovely, very welcoming, and make you feel at home.

- Nigel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wayne (10/5): Perfect in every way - Everything was just perfect Having to leave at the end of my stay
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - The location of the B&B was perfect, it is situated in a lovely quiet part of town with no road noise at all and lovely views across the valley. The house itself is gorgeous, full of trinkets and memorabilia that you could easily lose an hour looking through. The little touches in the room were perfect as well - such as coffee tables books about the river the room was named after. The room itself was big, spacious and luxurious. The bed was absolutely fantastic, large and cosy and it had one of the most comfortable mattresses we've experienced in a B&B. The breakfast was incredible both mornings - with the option to choose what you wanted on your plate and the butchers meats were of top quality. Howard was an excellent host (unfortunately, we did not get to meet Cath) who couldn't do enough to help, was always full of conversation, tips and local knowledge and made you feel part of the family immediately upon arrival. Would highly recommend for a stay, I wish we'd had more time there to appreciate it fully!
- Astons (9/5): Family 2 night stay. - Beautiful property with great decor. The gardens were also lovely to stroll around. Attentive hosts with excellent breakfast. Really comfortable beds and spacious, smart bedrooms.

- Mark (10/5): Beautiful house and garden. Lovely room and bathroom. Excellent breakfast and great welcome. - Great location and surroundings.
Tasty, varied breakfast.
