Guest Reviews
- Wei Sum (4/5): - Very dated but clean. We got assigned an upstairs room. Quite mostly but most likely won’t stay here again.
- Nancy (8/5): - Clean, quiet, no frills comfort. Friendly, accommodating staff. Clever shower configuration with easy-to-reach controls on the corner rather than in the middle.
Be prepared for $10 cash key deposit, refunded at check-out. No elevator to the upstairs, but i think there are only a few rooms there for overflow. Can't beat the price. I'll definitely stay again when i need overnight room in that area. No complaints.
- Kristy (9/5): Nice owners and had what I think is a recently renovated room. 9/10 only because wi-fi wasn't stable -
- Daniel (4/5): -
- Mikhail (7/5): -
- Courtney (8/5): - Clean and friendly staff
- Sandra (2/5): - When I got in our room I noticed large, visible, and crusty stains on top of the bedspread. Not wanting to cause a big scene, I asked for a new blanket. They didn't want to give me a new blanket until they saw for themselves. A man whom I presume was the owner came into the room to investigate and proceeded to argue with me. He claimed he could not see anything wrong. I told him that if he couldn't see it to just run his hand over it, because it wasn't just stains. The dried food (I hope that's what it was) was crusted on enough to feel with your hand. I had a party of five and all of us were just standing there in shock. He begrudgingly swapped bedspreads. I then found dog hair all over the pillows and ended up just bringing the pillows and blankets we had for the ride in and using them. We were only there a short time and I didn't want to spend it arguing with someone. The other room was cleaner (and there wasn't bugs-we checked vigorously), but never in my life would I have expected such an interaction. Also, the lighting was terrible. The only light in the bathroom was a florescent that was directly next to the mirror. I had to do my makeup in the other part of the room, because the light in the bathroom gave me a headache. Easily the worst hotel I've stayed at.
- Abubakar (6/5): UNPLEASANT - Location The owner was rude and extremely unkind. At 10.30 am he treated all guests with suspicion because their check out was supposedly @ 10 am if not checked out by 10 am, he angrily surcharged $10 hourly. Pure monetary extortion that was INEXCUSABLE! The 10 am check out policy was primarily an extortion to shamelessly grab more money from unsuspecting customers! This unfriendly and arrogant attitude ruined my stay. Paid the additional $10 but lost a lifetime customer
- Teresa (7/5): -
- John (10/5): I’ll go back in a heartbeat. - Quaint, friendly and exceptionally good value. It didn’t have a breakfast. But the cost off set the lack of breakfast.
- Katelyn (7/5): -
- Clemons (10/5): -
- Rodney (8/5): -
- Jeffrey (8/5): - Quiet family owned, clean and close to the caves. Very accommodating to our dog. If you like the old style drive up to your door as I do, you should have a good experience. Some odd characters about but nothing unsavory or troublesome. Felt safe staying with my wife and daughter. Nothing.
- Richard (8/5): - Very clean and comfortable. Staff Very friendly. No coffee pot. Had to go to the store for that. It wasn't a big deal.
- ANDREW (10/5): -
- William (7/5): - The owners were delightful! They were genuine and kind, and the room was a great value. I certainly recommend staying at this location!
- teresa bienasz (10/5): This is a lovely budget motel. It's well worth the money. Front desk staff are very nice. - VERY clean. nice rooms. nicely decorated room. hot water. VERY clean rooms. no on-site coffee
- Michael (9/5): Clean room. Centrally located to multiple cave sires. - N/A Maybe a slightly more comfortable chair in the room.
- sam (2/5): Do not stay there - Nothing First room we had wife pulled back sheets and big urine stains on mattress pad. Changed rooms next room about as big as a walk in closet. Heating units so loud you could not sleep had enough by 4:00 in the morning we left it’s true you get what you pay for.
- Glenn (10/5): - Hospital staff, clean room
- Doug (5/5): Won't recommend or stay there again! - It was clean Lady at the desk was rude! Wanting to charge me extra because I was a hour early. Wifi didn't work in my room. Someone came in my room when I was gone emptied the trash but opened and looked through my cooler and we t through my bag.
- Teresa (9/5): Very comfortable and clean with awesome rates and friendly staff -
- mikehX8948RP (10/5): Just small town motel with great respectable owners. 5 stars. - I absolutely love.
This hotel and the staff and owners who run this place are very respectful.Ask of a person is to be quiet.Keep it clean. The owners are absolutely amazing people. This is not a paid review. This is not no scam. No, it's times I stayed here and need.S.A. Little extra time to pay for that day or that week and never had an issue with it.I would highly recommend this motel to anyone.
- paul (8/5): -
- keith (8/5): Very satisfactory acommodations at a terrific price - Convenient location to our activities and more than adequate amenities for our stay.Parking was easy and location was fairly quiet.Condition of motel seemed in good repair. The tv had a good selection of options. The bathroom was quaint and cute although it lacked a fan. The bed frame was a little unusual, made of sheet metal and could be a little noisy if bumped. The most annoying thing was the pocket door on the bathroom with the light switch outside the room which was disturbing to the sleeper in bed in the night.
- Heidi (8/5): - Cleanliness
- ANTHONY (9/5): -
- Gilbert (10/5): - Its vintage
- Jackson (4/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): - Clean rooms, very friendly staff
- Sarah (2/5): - Upon arrival, the room assigned had cat hair on the floor. When the air conditioning was turned on, it blew smoky, pet-dander air, which immediately affected my family's allergies. Management switched the rooms at my request, without too much opposition. The second room had less dander, but more dust/mildew, not sure which. My family and I stayed one night because it was so late, while my oldest daughter slept in our car in the parking lot. We checked out two days early and had to find another place to stay. There's NO WAY this place is 4.8 stars. Management did refund me one day. This place still offers smoking rooms, and residents who live there are in and out all night smoking with their pets, not leashed, on the main sidewalk. One resident's small dog was aggressively going for my teen. I would not recommend this location.
- Dauri (2/5): - Booked on Hotels.com . Got to the hotel owner wanted us to pay again. He was rude yelling I had to pay him even though I had a paid confirmation. We left.
- David (10/5): - We were made to feel very welcome and any assistance needed was provided without question.
- Michael (6/5): Cheap and relatively clean - Place is pretty well off the beaten path. Relatively clean but could use some tlc and a little upgrading. For the price, was worth the chance.
- Brian (10/5): - An older no-frills motel but well keep and clean. Would stay there again.
- Quinn (10/5): - Very clean, staff nice, good value for the price. Had a microwave and refrigerator. The bed was comfortable. No coffee maker or area to get coffee, had to leave the hotel to get coffee. No ice machine, drink or snack machine on site.
- Elizabeth (10/5): It was a great motel safe and clean - It was small, clean and quite No hairdryers
- Tabitha (10/5): - Everything was great The people was nice bed comfortable
- Janet (6/5): - It was clean, but just the barest basics.
- Torres (8/5): Very helpful and enjoyable, - Everything was good just minor things.
- 372leannk (8/5): Just the Basics for Us - An option if you need a clean, quiet, fairly priced stay near Mammoth Cave. We stayed 3 nights. These rooms are just the basics with no servicing which is fine with us! We need clean….met our expectations! Options for meals included 5 Broke Girls and the Amish Bakery. Close enough to check out the Corvette Museum and Bernheim Arboretum.
- Schere (10/5): - Don’t let the price fool you, it was nice, clean and quiet. There are no fancy amenities but for the price you can go out for breakfast and still save money. I’d 100% stay here again if I ever come back to the area.
- Jason (10/5): -
- steve (7/5): - Motel was clean
- Blair (10/5): - Very nice, very clean
- Gary (8/5): - The room was very small. You only get in the bed from one side or at the end. The oversize bathroom door caused the queen bed to be too close to the wall.
- Kole (10/5): -
- James (8/5): Clean and basic. - The room was clean. I got everything I paid for. the room was small and didn't have any place to set me laptop. Yeah, it's a laptop, and I put it on my lap, but I do like a desk and chair in a room.
- Michael (9/5): Perfectly clean, serviceable budget motel with 60's chic. - An older motel, but it's been refreshed and was perfectly clean. Just be ready for it to be a little 'different' than you might be used to at chain hotels. I had a window air conditioner (with heat) instead of the typical through-wall or in-wall unit, but it kept the room perfectly cool. And the furniture is a bit old, but serviceable. But it's a budget motel, and I've paid much more for worse. $50/night plus tax on a weekend in August (summer season), and was only charged $15/night for my little dog. A friendly owner, big-screen TV, and fast wi-fi, what more do you need? I've stayed before and will stay again.
- Janine (10/5): - Friendly helpful staff. Good bed. Hot shower. good AC. 15 minutes drive to Mammoth cave.
- Lisa (7/5): -
- william (5/5): - Price No lampshade on lamp.merds drywall finishing
- David (10/5): - Very comfortable and clean, a good value.
- Greg (10/5): - It was a very nice place to stay family oriented bed was comfy I enjoyed!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Worth more than the cost. - Don't judge a book by it's cover. This is not a roach motel. This is a clean place. I will stay again if I get the chance.
- Caton (6/5): -
- 698justicem (10/5): Clean rooms - Very nice place and good customer service. The owner will go out his way to help you and your family. If you don't like the room he will change it no problem This stephanie
- Luann (10/5): Great place and extremely reasonably priced. - This is a great place to stay. Room was clean and staff is very friendly. The rate was fantastic!
- Arnett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Captain (7/5): nice cheap room near Mammoth Cave No extras - no breakfast but rate was great When I checked in I was told no charge for my small service dog. In the morning, the owner came to my room and demanded that I pay the $15 for the pet which I did. I let him know that the clerk on check in said no charge for serviced dog.
- Robert (10/5): Met My Needs - It was an overall positive experience. A nice area and not too far from I-65. No complications. A comfortable bed. Couch was a bit hard, but other than that, I would still recommend Horse Cave Motel.
- ashlee (10/5): Nice clean motel - Chose to stay here on our trip to visit Mammoth National Park. Was an eaay and close location. Love motels and this one was very clean and they even upgraded our room to a king for free and already couldn't beat the price.
- Staci (6/5): - This motel is good for a night or two, but that’s it. The advertising is very misleading. The room on the advertising isn’t the room you get. There is no play ground, no room service, not even a vending machine. Our room didn’t even have a phone and you had to kick the door to get it shut all the way. The bed wasn’t comfortable, but like i said good for a night or two.
- Rickey (9/5): Superb - Nice and quiet, clean.
- Wilson (10/5): Slept great! - The people were nice
- Rhonda (10/5): - Clean and quiet. Owners are very friendly. If you are just wanting a place to sleep, it is perfect. Its an old hotel but was perfect for us. Very close to Mammoth Cave and hidden river cave.
- John (4/5): You get what you pay for - The hotel was clean and had a decent bed, that was the extent of the good. The motel had no ice machine and the AC was louder than it was cold.
Hotels.com never sent me a confirmation so I rebooked. I ended up with 2 rooms. The owner did not charge me for the second room other than a $25 cash fee. It could have been worse.
- Robbie (9/5): We were looking for a cheap and clean place to stay while visiting mammoth cave. Horse cave motel delivered! - Management was nice, the room was very clean, and it was a very good value! Room was pretty bare, had what we needed and was clean though so it wasn’t an issue!
- Vasilisa (3/5): Poor - The motel is located about 20-30 minutes from the Mammoth Caves and about 20 minutes from Cave city with all the restaurants and shops, so it was quite a convenient commute. Our room wasn't as presented in the booking, and the towel shelf was rusty, A/C smelled like sth was burning. Then we were awakened twice in the morning by the cleaning crew and by the manager to repark our vehicle cause they were cutting grass or sth.
- Borne2sail (10/5): Clean and quaint from the 50’s! - 2nd visit (king room is only room I love…but I do LOVE the retro and a cleaner room you will not find! 2nd stay here and will continue to return! Cool retro (fridge and microwave) super small tv- do not stay if tv buff!! I just love this when I travel from panhandle to Michigan…half way and a nice break! I love this little motel!
- Katelyn (10/5): - It was a great experience! Checked in for an overnight stay. Arrived after 11pm and the staff were very friendly and quick to getbus checked in!
- Louise (10/5): - Great location
- Furby (1/5): Bad - We was able to cancel free of charge The owner was rude and tried to hold onto our card when we asked to leave after he talked rude to me. He gave us a really bad feeling!
- Steve (10/5): - Manager and family were very friendly. Room was clean and neat. Lots of storage if one needs it. Full fridge appreciated from people like us who still travel with a full cooler that needs ice refrozen and food refrigerated. Very reasonable price. Felt safe in the area. Would stay here again.
- Sharon (10/5): Great place to spend the night - Easy check in. We ran late and got a polite call to be sure we were in coming. Clean room. Reasonable rate. Convenient to Mamouth Cave.
- Carrie (10/5): - The owner allowed us to check in past lobby hours and made sure we were happy with our stay upon checkout. Spacious room and very clean.
- David (9/5): Superb - Reminded me of my childhood Excellent
- athena (10/5): - Very retro like in a Quentin Tarentino movie.
- Lorraine (6/5): - Shower and shower curtain was dirty. Air conditioner didn't work well. The man who checked us in was rude because we booked room on my Expedia account but my friend used his credit card to pay for the room.
- Candice (5/5): Passable -
- Debra (8/5): - Reasonable price, clean, quiet, safe, comfortable bed, microwave, refrigerator. Ideal for a good night’s sleep while traveling
- Francis (10/5): - Clean, comfortable bed, good location. I would stay here again.
- Ashok (8/5): Very good - Good for 1 night Wifi signal very weak
- Rachel (7/5): Great! (except for the AC...) - It was a cute, vintage motel that was very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The air conditioner was not working properly. You could not set the temperature and so it cut on and off all night and ran very loudly. I got very little sleep...
- Cameron (10/5): Great stay - Very nice place, especially for the price. Only complaint is that the AC was loud and did not work too well, but was still able to comfortably be in the room. Well worth it.
- Russell (10/5): Family Friendly Vacation Hub - Horse Cave Motel is for many reasons the place I wish my parents had taken me when I was a child, and where I wish I'd taken my children when they were young.
Ideally located in the center of one of the most unique geographical locations in the world, multiple opportunities for sightseeing and learning unlike anywhere else in the world.
Horse Cave motel would have been perfect for my 1970s youth, and it has retained that charming motif.
- Donna (4/5): Cheap and clean. Would not stay here again ☹️ - Room #26 was clean with aged furnishing. The room was cheap and I booked knowing that it was not a 5 star motel. We arrived late & left early and needed it only for sleeping.
The air conditioning worked well and help to drown out the noise from our chatty neighbors. Our room included a small refrigerator and microwave. I was charged an extra $10 for my granddaughter even though I indicated one adult and one child when booking.
The bathroom had a strange layout with only a foot between the sink and wall, to get to the toilet. A larger person would have had difficulty getting through the narrow space.
Shower was very small with no light inside.
The door was secured by a small chain and a lock that could have been easily opened with a credit card. NO deadbolts. This made for a restless night of sleep.
In the morning, I discovered black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom!
We did not stay there on our return journey home.
Pictures included
- Angel (2/5): What you reserve may not be what you get! - We booked a queen room. Upon arrival we were told that all they had available were 2 doubles. We left and stayed somewhere else. Only book this place if you don’t care what type of bed you get.
- Jerold (7/5): Not Bad For The Price - It was clean, quiet and the price was good The ac had some issues getting it to cool as the digital display was kinda messed up. The toilet paper is bad. Bring your own. The pillows where thin. Bring your own.
- Jerry (8/5): - Great stay. No water glasses in the room
- Michael (10/5): - Cute little motel. It felt like stepping back in time, but with modern amenities. It was so quiet in our room. Did not hear a peek all night. And we were right beside the office. The door has an actual key, with an old style keychain. The owner was friendly and made sure everything was good for our stay. If you are wanting all the luxury of a modern motel/hotel, this is not it. But if you want something cute and cozy, and a welcoming stay. Keep this one in mind.
- Troy (9/5): Great stay. Friendly staff. - Price Internet was slow.
- Jeffrey (8/5): - This is an old motel that is showing its age. With that said, it was very clean and worth the price paid.
- Amanda (9/5): Superb -
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- Janice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): - This is a family owned property and every family member we met went above & beyond to make sure our stay was fabulous!!
- Pal (9/5): Superb -
