Christopher (10/5): A diamand gem on the Isle of Wight. - The check-in was easy, everything ready for us, plenty of car parking, super room with garden/sea view, comfortable bed, excellent food coupled with friendly and efficient staff members. We will go back again. Nothing.

Sharan (8/5): Great place to stay, few tweaks desirable - Charming, old world ambience. Tasty breakfast - had one vegan option Attentive, courteous staff at reception, restaurant and housekeeping. The shower-head was not delivering hot water and they promptly attended to and fixed this. Clean and tidy. Hotels should really be inclusive for vegans - can stock plant-based biscuits in the room which can be consumed by everyone, instead of just butter/dairy-based biscuits. Breakfast could have a few more vegan options. We were only able to pick one option from the list of 6-7. The bed was probably too soft for my liking, especially as I have some back issues, but that's a personal preference.

Great value we booked the early special saver rate. Got a great discount on the ferry. Historic and interesting. Beautiful gardens and they were just in the process of upgrading the outdoor seating and pool area. Classy hotel excellent dinner we ate twice on a 3 night stay as it's so good. I heard under new ownership. Only minor comment would be mattress (room 56) needs replacing but I am sure this will be under a refurb programme soon. We stayed the same time (easter) last year and would not hesitate to book again. We also bought dogs this time the IOW is very dog friendly. Staff were excellent and very attentive there was a doggie gift set in the room a nice touch. Mattress in 56

The roast on Sunday was better than anywhere and the beef was exceptional. Regarding breakfast, the Full English was poor but other options were nice. Pity there was no fat-free yogurt .

Kerry (4/5): May have been good back in the day, now needs an overhaul! - The location of the hotel was fabulous. The night porter was lovely, the most attentive member of staff. Pretty much everything else. The room was dated. The stairs and hallways were dated. The taps in the room were not great you had to keep turning and turning to get water. Carpets desperately need replacing, when you have duct tape holding carpet together it isn't a good look. It was loose on the stairs so you had to be careful not to slip. The staff were lacklustre at best. Never anyone at the bar, and kept waiting. First day for breakfast, empty breakfast room but because we checked in with a dog automatically put in conservatory even though the dog wasn't with us. We did manage to get seated in the empty restaurant but couldn't have a table by the window because those were 'taken/reserved'. We were the only ones in the restaurant bar one couple who appeared mid way through so not sure why we couldn't have one of the many empty window tables?! The breakfast itself was a let down. A full English that arrived one sausage, one bacon, half a tomato, a mushroom and the two smallest poached eggs I've ever seen. They forgot my sourdough toast I'd asked for instead of fried bread but did get me a rack of mixed roast instead. My partner had the guacamole and feta on sourdough with poached egg, and it was lucky he asked for sausages to go with it as it was a very stingy portion. The music at breakfast was the same four songs on repeat. We opted to not do breakfast the second day even though it was included. All, in all, this hotel needs a complete makeover and refurb of the contents and the staff.

The hotel is stunning & the staff exceptional in their friendliness, helpfulness & professionalism. I was fortunate to get a parking space for the duration of my stay but I was surprised at how small the car park is considering the size of the hotel.

Good alternative options too for main breakfast and as much as wanted can also be chosen from the continental options. Overall, many good options for breakfast. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The environment was good overall in the hotel. Friendly welcome by the receptionist. The waiter spilt red wine on me, and the table cloth when serving the glass to my husband , he didnt offer a napkin to clear it up, he said he would offer me a discount on my next glass for spilling on me , which felt very disingenous at the time. I didnt have another drink but to see a £1.00 wet discount on my bill this morning added insult to injury. Also the waitress didnt know what was in the special dessert and had to go back to the kitchen to find out, there was only one special dessert of the day, would expect her to know. The cold water tap in the sink in our room had hot water in it unless it was run for about 4 minutes.

Some was obtained but not in evidence until we asked each morning. The location and grounds were very impressive. See above. The hotel had an old fashioned air and some of the plumbing just functioned.

Owing to my illness I suffer occasionally with walking (especially up hills and stairs, but not so much down!) and I was fortunate enough to have a parking bay close to reception, which was wonderful. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and polite. The food was excellent, we had cod bites with tartare in the bar and in the restaurant the celeriac amuse bouche was delivious. My seabass was perfect as was my husband's pork loin, we will definitely stay again. Unfortunately we were running late so didn't have breakfast....next time . There wasn't anything not to like.

The staff were all friendly and helpful and the quality of provision overall was excellent. The location is excellent, everyone was very kind to my travelling companion who is physically frail - even to the extent of arranging a parking spot in the grounds of the hotel rather than at one of the two other parking areas. There was nothing I "didn't like", though the plumbing in my room seemed a little under-powered: the shower was not powerful and the cold water tap did not provide water that could be described as "cold" - tepid at best.

Adrian (7/5): Lovely hotel and grounds, great staff…let down a bit by the room. - A beautiful historic hotel, with great staff, lovely front of house and gardens. Cocktails by the pool is a must. Breakfast was great with good selection. The room and en-suite was a bit dated/tired. We booked the Classic room which was the most basic, but for the price a few small extras would be nice (robes, mini fridge for milk, safe) The bedside lighting was chandelier design, and very bright - some simple mods would have made this so much better, but everything else was lovely.
Brian (8/5): Very nice but not perfect. - Beautiful hotel in a really lovely location on the Isle of Wight . Our bedroom location was at the end of the building and on the ground floor and people were walking past a lot , but for the opaque glass could see in our room and bathroom .

Elizabeth (8/5): - Not much water pressure from the taps or shower and the bedroom window was very dirty on the outside but overall the service and facilities were very good. Gardens a pleasure to sit in, really cared for.

Ramin (8/5): A very nice hotel in a beautiful, relaxing location - The breakfast was excellent, friendly staff. A nice hotel in a beautiful, scenic location. Very nice views from the hotel. The room was comfortable. Good VFM for what I paid. The hotel carpet and rooms need to be renovated. While I understand the hotel is designed to have a "traditional" vibe, there are some aspects that are just worn out and need to be replaced. It would also be nice if there was a safe in the room.

Adrian (4/5): Disappointing - Evening meal was alright, but breakfast very disappointing. On arrival we were advised that we had an upgraded room but we had specifically chosen he type of room we wanted. The replacement was much more dated and somewhat drab.

The Breakfast & Sunday Lunch were excellent. The room was a little tired & didn’t meet our expectations. The room facilities didn’t match the hotels overall star rating & the bathroom condition was poor.

Zsuzsanna (9/5): Short stay in a beautiful hotel - The staff was very friendly, especially the young receptionist lady. I had to wait about 15 minutes for the breakfast.
Mark (2/5): Bad value for money - Breakfast is good. The hotel is in urgent need of a renovation. Rooms at the back of the hotel are noisy, especially when the garbage and delivery lorries come very early (before 6AM) and drive right past the windows of the rooms. The carpet has stains and is worn in places. The swimming pool, garden and terraces are outdated. Given the extreme prices it is bad value for money.

Verified traveler (6/5): Disappointed - Sorry but a bit disappointed as we were hoping for a bit more luxury.☹️ the hotel may be 4star but our room (saver double) was 2star....not even as nice as a premier inn. No charging points, Window directly on to public pavement...grey carpet, worn grey painted furniture, grey curtains...all very grey. Parking was difficult.

June (4/5): Food smells and hot room - Food was good Our bedroom was over the kitchens and outhouses. Constant drone of kitchen extractor fans and food smells in our room.we asked to be moved but could not. I do not believe that the hotel was full. Would not have booked this hotel if we had known
Richard (9/5): Top Marks - Great customer focused service - food was excellent and very well presented - room very well appointed and the pool was very inviting ! Very well kept gardens and everyone very helpful and friendly . Very little , only thing is Classic FM isnt available on the TV , fortunately Radio 3 was !
Smith (7/5): A quiet weekend in Ventnor - The room was spacious and very comfortable Pool area and bar very good Breakfast was food, service excellent, you can opt to eat in conservatory or outside. The hotel looked very dated and all the communal areas need updating. Rather dark and dingy. Geranium restaurant seems dark and quiet, we felt like we went back in time; We preferred to eat outside in conservatory. Communication when asking for information could have been improved, we were not told of rockfall that happened in March blocking way to main high street where restaurants are. Despite being given a map of Ventnor and asking for directions to restaurants!!

Gentleman playing a grand piano during dinner The outside pool & gardens & Seating area under the awning are all as lovely as they were 20 years ago when I last visited Excellent check in & reception staff Not a dislike but would benefit from brightening & updating in the corridors & restaurant. I would love to have had breakfast on the terrace - They is no vibe in the restaurant: has very nice but serious staff who seem worried & bound by rules

Gary (8/5): We enjoyed out stay. - Very clean and well kept. Room servicing was good. Lovely to be able to have drinks outside. Staff were pleasant No air conditioning in the room and weather was very warm. A fridge in the room would have been helpful.
