- Verified traveler (8/5): Really nice hotel on a wonderful little island - My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The staff was super friendly at this clean hotel. Food at the restaurant is solid, especially given the limited good options on the island. The hotel is a bit dated, mostly outside of the rooms. I would highly recommend this hotel as the beach is great, close to the airport/port and store (not that the island is big to begin with).

Attention cependant aux horaires très limités le soir; difficile de dîner après 19h45 car le personnel veut « terminer tôt « … Hôtel qui mériterait une rénovation complète. Les prestations ne sont pas à la hauteur des prix pratiqués: trou dans le mur de la chambre; sol abîmé; très forte humidité (sol mouillé le jour de notre arrivée) Le personnel de direction n’a pas le sens du service: nous avons été facturé 7dollards pour un plat du petit déjeuner commandé en décalé de quelques minutes : très maladroit pour une facture de 1200 dollars sur 3 nuits
- Tanya (8/5): - We stayed in Room 1, and the view was absolutely breathtaking—a stunning way to take in the beauty of Isla Contadora. The room was spacious and clean, and the piña coladas were delicious. The hotel clearly had its glory days, and the charm is still there, but it could benefit from some updates. There are cracked walls and windows, a leaky sink pipe, and the banister on the balcony of Room 1 needs immediate repair—it poses a real safety concern. A fresh coat of paint and general maintenance would go a long way in restoring its former splendor. While the food was good, prices are on the high side compared to other great options on the island. For the price of the rooms, a complimentary bottle of water would be a thoughtful touch. That said, the location, views, and overall atmosphere made it worth the stay—with a little TLC, this place could truly shine again.

Não exite uma peça sequer , fora dos quartos , que possua ar condicionado . O calor é muito intenso em todas as areas comuns . Cobram muito e não oferecem conforto proporcional. Os funcionarios são muito gentis. O brackfast é muito limitado. Não aconselho o hotel a idosos ,pois as escadas que levam à praia não oferecem segurança e são mais de 30 degraus para descer e subir. Eu esperava muito mais deste hotel. Caro e devolve pouco.

- Kelly (2/5): - Realmente la propiedad necesita mantenimiento, los baños después de salud de la playa están horribles la persona de recepción dice que le han dado aviso a los dueños y no hacen nada, adicional el baño tiene una cortina con un palo de hierro y este palo no es fijo tengan mucho cuidado ya q me lastimo en la cabeza y se los hice saber obviamente, me ofrecieron algo de comer en la playa pero hasta ahí, yo viaje con mi mamá y lo único q pensaba era gracias q fue a mi y no a ella. El chico del bar la atención fue excelente, súper cordial, las camas están cómodas y los aires funcionan maravilloso el Beach club está muy bien con acceso lindo a la playa. El hotel deben hacerle mantenimiento vidrios rotos, mesas rotas, el menú del restaurante realmente no es bueno, pedí un postre por teléfono con anterioridad para el cumple de mi mamá me dijeron q debí ordenarlo a mi llegada así lo hice y el día del cumple llego y simplemente me dijeron q no había sido posible q me darían 3 galletas de corazón igual no llegaron . Si tienes la posibilidad hospeda-te en otro lugar 4 elementos está súper lindo y si vas tienes q visitar el restaurante casa tortuga su chef es espléndido una joya en la isla. El hotel en mi opinión. Es de 1 estrellas no de 3 y 4 comi lo cobran. Este hotel deben realizarse los mantenimientos antes q pase algo. Si tienes hijos tener mucho cuidado ⛔️ o adultos mayores cómo fue mi caso. Agradezco q el accidente fue conmigo uno con mi mamá.

Ejemplo el desayuno no hay agua, si la requeris te cobran la botella. Los precios de las comidas son muy caras al ser huésped cautivo de una isla con relación a la ciudad de Panamá.
- Valentino (4/5): 2 night stay - For 3 consecutive days restaurant didn’t have what we asked for. Either they need to update the menu or keep in stock what they offer on it. We ordered food at lunch and took 1 hour to be delivered. We had to leave without eating because had plan a boat toor.( we informed them before ordering and they insured us we had enough time) The place needs to be upgraded. We got the terrace suit which was in very bad shape for the price they ask for. Friendly staff but very bad management. Overpriced for the service they offer.

- Katie (10/5): - We particularly liked Mar Y Oro as it is in the center of the island and belongs to one of the most beautiful beaches, Playa Cacique. The Bellavista Suite we booked has the only best sea view room in the hotel and a large circular terrace with classic-style railings. Viewed from the terrace, the vast blue sea, blue sky, silvery beach, and tropical scenery are simply a paradise on earth! The food at Mar Y Oro is considered to be the best on the island. We ate all our meals here, and we witnessed the fishermen bringing the fish caught from the sea to the hotel, so we ordered a garlic Mahi Mahi dish for dinner. Served with coconut milk rice, it is tender and delicious, leaving a lingering fragrance in your mouth. The service staff here are very warm and friendly, and some can speak English, so there is no language problem. The hotel's decoration design style is unique, as if you are in a mysterious movie world, everything is charming and beautiful.

We had expected that there would be other restaurants and more to do on the island and we did not have an easy time navigating a snorkel experience. But we had a very relaxing, and restful stay. Bring a water filter as the water on the island is not drinkable and buying all your water is expensive, as are the meals. But the hotel itself was lovely and the beach was absolutely beautiful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is simple and nice. You can't beat the location! Being right on the beach was fabulous. There were plenty of beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas available and staff were eager and happy to set them up for us. Breakfast was included (fruit, eggs/omelet, juice, coffee) at the restaurant onsite. We did lunch one day at the beach bar and dinner one night in the restaurant. The food was average/good and seemed to be typical prices for an island. The staff were friendly and helpful.
- ANDREA (8/5): Great location but hotel needs work - The hotel is in a great place and food is very good, but checkout is very early and it has no decent place to go to the bathroom or take a bath after the beach. So be ready not be able to take a bath after the ocean and get in the ferry all sticky and with beach sand. Rooms need extra care. Ours had a whole in the roof of the bathroom because of excess humidity.

- Deepa (8/5): - Had a great stay in the family suite at Mar y Oro! The staff was friendly and helpful. They arranged for taxis for us when needed, and were always available to answer questions. The views from the hotel, and the beach by it are perfect. The room is basic, but serves its purpose. Food options are the same everyday at the hotel restaurants, and are on the pricier end. Drinks were great. There are other restaurants you can go to on the island. We had one night where a guest was playing really loud music till late into the night, and we could hear every single bit of it - that was really our only complaint.

- Jhoana (10/5): EXCELENTE! Full Recomendado - En general nos gusto mucho el hotel. Al llegar estaba el servicio de traslado esperando en el area del ferry y justo tomo menos de 5 mins en llegar al hotel en si. A pesar que el check in es a las 2pm nos dieron la habitación un poco antes. Nos instalamos en las sillas de playa, habia paraguas, toallas y un bar justo en la playa. Almorzamos en el restaurante, podría mejorar un poco la comida pero dentro de todo muy bien. Las habitaciones llenaron nuestras expectativas ya que eramos 3 personas y contaba con como king (realmente una king) y una cama queen. La deco sencilla pero acogedora. Todo funcionaba muy bien. Importante mencionar que la playa que esta justo frente al hotel es 10/10 estuvimos todo el rato alli, aguas cristalinas y bastante calmadas. Definitivamente planeamos volver.
- ANDREA (6/5): Great room, crapy general areas of the hotel - The hotel is amazing, the chef is extraordinary, rooms are in great condition and very clean, but the checkout time is very early and the general area conditions of the hotel are very crapy. The bathroom is very old, has no light and no place to take a bath after the sea. So if you expect to have a nice time in the sea while you leave the hotel is not an option.

Some of the most positive aspects of this resort were Andres, Erica and Jonathan. They made our stay very enjoyable with their above and beyond service and happy attitudes :). - Peter (10/5): - Fantastic location right on a small sandy beach. Just stunning. Lovely staff and restaurant overlooking the beach and nice food. The Island overall is a little run down and limited as it’s very small but the hotel does a great job. Minor irritations with electric and internet going down but it is a small remote island. Definitely worth 2-3 days for a relaxing break.
- Cathy (6/5): - The Mar Y Oro was once a very nice hotel, but it’s pretty run-down now. The rooms were clean however, so that was a bonus. The complimentary breakfast was good, but the prices on their menu are way too high (we paid $120 US for a lunch for 4 that was mostly bland). You can’t drink the water (which is to be expected), but they didn’t supply any to guests without charging a lot. We rented a golf cart (not from them as they wanted $80/day vs the $50/day that we paid a guy we met upon arrival at the ferry landing), and went to the store for water, drinks, etc. I definitely recommend going to Gerald’s to eat also.

- Maurice (10/5): Alcoved Hidden Resort with Ocean View - Very good beachfront hotel with about 17 rooms available for different types of visitors. Staff made extra efforts to ensure clients were comfortable. Rooms are well kept and were fully cleaned and sanitized daily. Amenities : Good restaurant offering three meals per day, around-the-clock coffee and tea self-service in lobby, beach bar service in daytime. Location was amazing, directly overlooking sand beach with clear waters (Playa Cacique), nice scenic views and not overcrowded during our visit. There are nearby authentic restaurants (Italian, German, Spanish) and b&b’s as well as a small supermarket at a 15-minute walk from hotel. Golf carts can be rented to tour the higher parts of the island on its narrow roads and to visit other beaches. Marine activities and island tours can be organized with hotel. Highly recommend for getaway trip and to recharge batteries.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice location, lacking maintenance & precautions - Hotel location was nice in front of an amazing beach but hotel maintenance is needed in some areas. Found a roach in my room as well and while all hotel staff wear masks for covid - many guests are not and hotel staff does not seem to care/reinforce. No wonder Panama will go back into a lockdown again. Contadora island is mostly a ghost town but hotel restaurant is tasty.

- David (10/5): Nice beachfront with great food. - Nice small beachfront hotel. Wait staff was very accommodating. Laid back so things take time. We felt the kitchen put out high quality meals that we enjoyed very much. Great base for other activities as well such as fishing, snorkeling and diving.

- Darryl (8/5): Nice Boutique Hotel. Great staff! - Staff was amazing. Location on the island was fantastic. We went to all of the beaches on the island and this one was probably the best. Snorkeling was possible right from the hotel on the beach. Best place was to the left, around the rocks/coral. Hotel looked to be older and likely had some rough years, but they seem to be making repairs and improvements with the new owners. The doors to the rooms have large gaps around them, so a lot of insects get in the room. Some foam strips and a door sweep would make a much better experience. We've lived in Panama for 3 years, so we expect there to be bugs, but this could be prevented easily. Water pressure was really low and the water turns off sometime around midnight and isn't back on until around 6am, so if you are a night bathroom user, you only get one flush. Overall, it's a great hotel. Much better than the bad reviews we read indicated. Would go back in a heartbeat. Everything on the island is more expensive because it needs to be brought in by boat or plane, but it's not excessively so. Panama City is expensive itself now, so it is relative to that.

The hotel is majorly overpriced for what you get, food is mediocre, staff with a few exceptions are loafing or serving their own families. Room lacks luggage racks, nightstand, shower pressure a trickle and water smells. No shower to wash your body or even feet by the beach except an old wash tub. Boat timing has everyone with three hours not in room both coming and going. You can technically use the beach but nowhere to change except a one seat bathroom and no way to shower. Overall the hotel is not maintained and The Island itself has lots of completely abandoned properties. The beach is clean and pleasant but not enough of a draw to come here. Go to another island in another country. This hotel is absolutely not worth it. No one seems to be supervising or maintaining any quality control.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Exceptional Customer Service - This is an island hotel that has seen better days. Really nice wood carved chairs and benches in lobby area. Probably is one of the nicer hotels on the island. Beautiful beach, has umbrellas and chairs for guests. Good restaurant, soft sheets and towels, great beach towels. Bed was comfortable. Excellent staff! I caught a cold and manager was very accommodating...let me sleep late and rearranged ferry return a day early, no penalties.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I noticed other comments about the condition of the resort. It is past its prime but I think many facilities on Contadora Island are past their prime. MarYOro is as good as it gets on the island. Great beach, room was great, staff is remarkable, food and drinks are good. The staff office set it up to have a local fisherman take us out snorkeling and bird watching. Great day and only $40 plus tip!

- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms were fine with the A/C going when we got there early, but the safe was not attached to the wall, so not really usable, and no coffee pot. The restaurant is open for specific hours (as are all of the restaurants on the island) so if you are hungry between meals, you are out of luck. The location is a bit far from the 'town' and the recommended way to get around was renting a golf cart (another $120 per day, cash up front). I would stay there again, but with better preparation for the time on the island.
- Dylan (8/5): Best Hotel On This Very Small Island - I was more pleased with the room then expected. The view is incredible and there was plenty of space. The only thing I was not happy with was the bottom of the shower. It was used for jets to clean your feet in the past but now it’s old black and rusty. Overall, for a 3.5 star hotel in Contadora I was fairly impressed. Food is great as well. Definitely the best hotel in Contadora. Be sure to rent a golf cart. Definitely a must to ride around the islands, look at views, visit beaches and eat. Taxis are a set $5 fee PER way. Rent a cart :)

- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had an exceptional stay. This hotel is situated on the beach and has all necesary staff to spend perfect time there. Also it has a very good restaurant on side, lobster plate is very recommended. October is a low season, so the whole beach was only for us and for a couple of people more. The water of sea was warm so we could enjoy it all day. The hotel is stylish and the rooms very confortables. We had an upgrade on the room to suite and this room had a great view, it was very spacious and nice at all.

- Nadav (6/5): Great staff but 2 star hotel for 5 star prices. - Starting with the good: the hotel staff is great! Super friendly and accommodating. The beach that the hotel is on is beautiful and the hotel food is very good. Now for the not so good... the rooms and hotel itself are pretty rundown. For what you pay it’s not worth it, 2 stars for 5 star prices. A very BIG disappointment is that there are no balconies on the rooms! The only room that has one are the suits. If you are on the first or second floor you have big glass sliding doors facing the ocean but instead of a balcony to sit on there is a walk way. So everyone walking to the restaurant or beach is literally walking right by your bed. You cannot keep your curtians open, everyone can see right in your room or even worse if you like having a breeze in your room anyone can just walk in your room! It’s terrible and an absolute deal breaker. wouldn’t stay there again.
