Guest Reviews
- Jeremy (6/5): - Staff were lovely, especially the delightful lady at breakfast. Situated right in front of the harbour and an easy walk around the town. We were able to park easily. Unfortunately, our room was not clean, the main light was not working and the shower was also not functioning properly.
- Catherine (10/5): - Wonderful location with pub on the Mousehole harbor.
- Glenn (4/5): - Nice room but incredible noisy until 11pm (Like having DJ decks in the room) Hotel brilliantly located and historic but seems very understaffed. Had to find someone to pour drinks in the bar and was advised the following morning that breakfast was not available because the chef was ill. If we wanted a croissant and a coffee we'd have bought it next door. On check out we were asked to pay again as St Austell have changed their systems and were unable to take payment due to 'GDPR'. (Not really our problem) After we explained that we had already paid Expedia the payment was miraculously located. If we had paid again we would have been the ones wasting our time trying to reclaim the double payment. Staff in fairness were all polite and lovely - just undertrained and understaffed.
- Shadaine (10/5): Perfect Stay and location - The accommodation was amazing and the room was immaculate, the Staff were friendly and helpful. It’s in a very good location right next to the harbour. We woke up to beautiful sunrise , the food at the pub downstairs was also amazing.
- Martina (10/5): - Location
- Anthony (8/5): very lovely small hotel - All good here. it is what it says.
- Sarah (10/5): comfy base to explore Cornwall - Right on the harbor in charming Mousehole, we had a front row seat on Cornish life--people swimming, kids jumping off the harbor wall, and walking on the SW Coastal Path. Cooked breakfast was excellent and hearty, and there were a variety of god restaurants in Mousehole and nearby Newlyn. Our room was quiet and well appointed with a spacious bathroom. The room could get warm so the fan was appreciated. One night we parked in the car park closest (about 200 meters, 5BP for 24 hours) and one night found free parking just outside town on the street. Delightful!
- Catherine (8/5): - Wonderful spot with room overlooking boats in harbor. Above the pub, so can be a bit noisy until pub closes if windows are open. Very friendly staff. Wonderful place.
- Melville (10/5): - Old, quaint and charming. We six- footers must beware of the low ceilings. Good food, nice bar, quiet and comfortable rooms.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Excellent service , food was delicious , staff friendly and helpful and a bonus it was quiz night too , which was good fun!
- Brian (10/5): - Parking was at a pay and display lot within 5 minute walk.
- Susan (8/5): - I was very pleased with the accommodation and politeness of staff. Had an issue with payment because the card I booked with was out of date, so manager had to contact Expedia to clear payment with the new replacement card. I was out of internet contact, so the mix-up was a bit daunting. Entirely my fault though, and staff were very kind.
- Sara (10/5): Cosy hotel - The location was perfect, i was doing tje SWCP and couldnt stay in a better place. The staff were friendly, the room was of a good size with amenities and tea/coffe, the food at the restaurant was also very good.
- Andy (10/5): Spring has arrived - Warm reception and kind attentive staff throughout our stay. Dinner and breakfast both high quality cooking. Room had considerate touches like a coffee pod machine and a nightlight in the en-suite so you didn’t have the fan turn on in the night if you spent a penny. Lovely view out over harbour to sea.
- Martin (10/5): - Excellent room overlooking the harbour.
- John (10/5): - Staff, pub and room was more than we had expected.. 10/10
- Helen (10/5): - Had a lovely nights stay at the Ship Inn, beautiful harbour view from our room which was comfortable and roomy.
- Christian (10/5): - Excellent spot and friendly staff
- marcjanna (10/5): - Fantastic
- Verified traveler (10/5): All great! - Bed so so comfy, great view, nice food, great stay
- Maureen (8/5): - Great time - wonderful location
- Sara (10/5): - The pub was nice and had live music some nights. Breakfast and dinner were amazing! We were out for Lunch. I cant wait to visit again!!
- Rachel (10/5): - The food is excellent! Had the brie tart for Sunday roast and ice cream for dessert. Beer from the brewery was really good too.
- Francesca (8/5): - Tiny town with even tinier roads. We initially missed the car park closest to the inn and had to drive out and around to come back down into town. However once we parked we were directly across the Harbour from the inn. Everyone was friendly. Our room had a great view of the Harbour right out the window. The room was clean and comfortable, however the room was definitely not well sound proofed. I think it was the saloon door to the kitchen that could be heard from our room every time someone went in and out of it.
Other than that, it was a great stay. Food was good, we enjoyed the breakfast options and the surrounding areas was very cute. We would stay again, but maybe bring our ear plugs ;)
- Neil (2/5): - The room was not the “upscale” room as presented and illustrated on the website. The room had old stained carpets, walls and cupboards. The manager helped deal with the situation by giving us a bottle of wine, but the room was so filthy we couldn’t stay there and asked for a refund. It was explained that this room had not yet been refurbished. This experience was in stark contrast to the wonderful sister St Austell Brewery pub we stayed in at Sennen Cove a few days earlier, where the room was as illustrated on the websites. Sadly we just cancelled the end of our precious holiday and came home. Noah was superb in trying to help manage a very difficult situation.
- Thomas (10/5): Perfect - Absolutely wonderful stay!
- Carey (8/5): - Harbour view from bedroom was gorgeous. Good value for money with delicious breakfast and great coffee.
- Margaret (8/5): - Breakfast excellent and cooked to order.
Parking across harbour an issue. Coins only.
- Sharon (8/5): - Staff, bedroom and location spot on. Team were warm and welcoming and room and en-suite clean and spacious, we had a harbour view and was lovely to wake up and see the sea! The bar was great and full of locals and fab to have a live band too! The only negative for us was the dining area needed a refurb
- bruce (10/5): - This is the third time we've stayed here and, as always, a truly terrific holiday! Everyone is super-friendly (and super-efficient)! The Ship Inn is cosy and quirky and has almost as many (well-behaved and on leads) dogs as customers in the bar! Beer and cider top-notch and the food is great. Thanks, everyone!! Mousehole is a beautiful place and we never bother to bring the car as there's a bus to Penzance about every 20 mins and from there the world's your oyster! You really should go to The Ship Inn and Mousehole!
- James (10/5): - Beautifully preserved, wonderfully updated. Mousehole quaint and comfortable. Staff quiet accommodating when we needed to make changes. Food brilliant.
- Bridget (10/5): - the coffee is awful everything else = perfect!
View from my room fantastic
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely overnight visit - The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were given a beautiful room, overlooking the harbour - it was very clean, comfortable and well-appointed. We had arrived in Mousehole at lunch time, so had what we thought would be a snack lunch at the Ship Inn - the food was delicious and plentiful, to the extent that we couldn't face a full evening meal later on and just had some starters!
It needs to be said, however, that several items on the menu were not available and, when we arrived for breakfast the next morning, we were told that the chef hadn't turned up and so we had cereal and toast. This was slightly disappointing but not a major issue for us and the manager did reduce our bill to compensate us, which we were happy with. To put this in perspective, we were visiting at the end of January and were, I believe, the only overnight guests. I realise that it may not be cost-effective to provide a full menu and, from other places we visited, it is apparent that staffing is a general problem - made far worse by the fact that many workers can't afford to live in the places where they work because of inflated prices due to holiday lets and second homes. Anyway, enough politics.
The hotel doesn't have a car park but there is public parking nearby, which was £5 for 24 hours.
Stepping outside in the morning to a beautiful clear day and watching the sun rise directly in front of us was worth the bill just on its own.
- Peter Charl (10/5): - I really enjoyed the place was there years ago and enjoyed it again
- Valliann (10/5): - My wife and I loved staying here. The best people. Bar, breakfast and dinner. We can’t wait to come back.
- Rebecca (10/5): The ONLY place to stay in this part of Cornwall! - The ONLY place to stay in this part of Cornwall! On the waterfront, literally, sunset and sunrise from your bed - both incredible in mid October. Wonderful, warm, fun and kind staff. Superb pub quiz. Delicious breakfast and supper. Super dog friendly. Heavenly comfy bed.
- Judy (10/5): - Comfortable room and staff was very helpful. It would have been nice if there was a place to sit the suitcase on tho.
- Ira (8/5): - all just good
- Mary (8/5): Great Location - Room clean. Staff friendly. Breakfast ok but various options on menu were not available for our entire 5 night stay!
- Catherine (8/5): - Amazing location. Super room BUT the shower flooded and we had to clean up to prevent a disaster! Flustered member of staff made us wait to check in but otherwise faultless. Really enjoyed quiz night.
- Ayano (4/5): - Excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic location and great service - Really helpful and friendly staff. The room was good and certainly had excellent harbour views. It was a bit damp around the ceiling - but then you are on the coast. Excellent tea & coffee choice in the room. Only improvement would be being able to lock the window partly open. As it was a sash window on the ground floor, that could be easily opened from outside, it meant that I didn't leave it open at night (which was a bit stuffy - and may explain the damp). That aside, I would definitely recommend it for a short stay. Very good breakfast, too.
- Steve (8/5): - Great location, good food and nice staff. Just very noisy due to the thin walls
- James (10/5): - Wonderful old pub in the heart of Fowey. Great energy in the bar.
- david (10/5): - great room with a lovely direct view of the harbour and sea, friendly staff, great breakfast and good value for money - downside - remember the neighbouring roads are small and tight for cars and parking is not easy
- Peter (6/5): - In need of refurbishment. Very stained carpet. Rotting windows, paintwork shabby, sticky floors
- RIA (10/5): Perfect stay - Had a lovely stay at the ship inn. Room was spotless and overlooking the harbour, staff were friendly and helpful. There was also a lot of choice for breakfast and would highly recommend to anyone staying.
- Gary (10/5): - We were so impressed with the care and attention that we received, from all members of staff, that we have told all our friends and family that they have to visit The Ship . Our stay was better than any 5* hotel that we have stayed in all over the world. We will most definitely return in the near future. Regards Gary.
- andrew (10/5): - We walked from Land's End to reach the Ship Inn and were very grateful for the polite and speedy reception when we arrived. The evening meal was robust and breakfast extensive. Would go back!
- Gordon (10/5): - Y
- Norman (6/5): Marred by Kitchen Equipment failure - Staff excellent but a breakdown of Kitchen equipment limited Breakfast and Dinner menu. This happened after our first evening meal (which was excellent) and did impact our enjoyment of the stay thereafter. The Inn is very old and some of the woodwork is showing signs of rotting away!
- Sally (10/5): - Staff was absolutely wonderful!!
- Paula (10/5): - Amazing views from our room. Very comfortable bed. Enjoyed a fabulous dinner in the restaurant. Staff attentive and welcoming.
- Robert (10/5): - Great room in a great location.
Above the pub but quiet and had a very pleasant stay.
Breakfast options simple but all very good. Better coffee would be the only ask..
Need change for the small car park in the harbour £3. As no card accepted or phone etc..
- JEREMY (8/5): - Great room lovely views nice relaxed check in /out process would certainly stay again
- Noah (6/5): Great breakfast - room was very small, and stairs up narrow. Breakfast was very rich and excellent service.
- Catherine (10/5): - Lovely big room, comfortable bed. Staff were all accommodating and lovely. Excellent breakfast. Will be returning
- KIRTAN (6/5): - The property was in a great location magnificent harbour views to drive was tricky & hard to find parking the property lack in service to check in was late not to long no food was available in the evening due to lack of staff shortage the whole village seems to be like this with all limited staff shortage, will think twice about coming again
- Neil (10/5): Fab view, room & service - Fabulous view from our lovely room
Off site parking was ok , at this time of year
Very friendly service& modern spacious rooms
- Christopher (10/5): - Was a bit disappointed that there was no onsite parking. Wasn't sure what to make of the bar at first but 3 bottles of Pinot grigio later thought it was the best ever. The room was wonderful and the shower great. Had an evening meal which consists of mussels for starters followed by sole which I whole heartedly recommend. The view was wonderful especially with the famous Mousehole lights on. The service was top notch and I would definitely recommend it
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had fantastic stay lovely place very helpful staff great breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a stunning room and the staff were outstanding. We will definitely return.
- Neil (10/5): - Really nice Inn. Lovely view of the harbour. Staff really looked after us throughout our stay. Food and drink fantastic. The beef and ale pie was especially good. Can't rate it highly enough.
- Rikki (10/5): Happy - lovely place to stay would go back good food
- Thomas (8/5): Great location - Sure good location with the best view to the harbour. Friendly and service minded staff.
- Marcus (10/5): Fab two night stay - We stayed here for a couple of days and had a great time. The only downside is parking - there are two small car parks nearby but these fill up quickly so it's a case of go out for a day trip and get back after 6 or just walk as getting back in the afternoon means a struggle to park. Everything else about our stay was positive - the staff were fabulous, good wifi, and a good location right next to the harbour. The room was quiet and the pub dealt with covid requirements in a safe but unobtrusive way. Food in the evenings was very good - well presented, good portion sizes and good value. Breakfast was also excellent with very efficient and lovely staff.
- JM (8/5): Room 8 is tiny - When I booked this I saw photos of rooms and thought yes that's certainly 4 star standard. The room we got was tiny. Couldn't even fit a wardrobe so clothes had to hand on hooks on the wall. To be fair I wasnt promised a Harbour view but room 8 is NOT 4 star standard. Its far too small and the TV is the smallest I think I've ever seen... Think iPad. The lady who checked us in and served us breakfast was really nice and works incredibly hard. Breakfast was nice but if we ever come again I will make sure that we get a different room.
- Tess (10/5): - Lovely staff. Beautiful room with magnificent view. A great place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Idyllic venue - Beautiful settling, welcoming staff, well appointed room.
- Nigel (10/5): Loved it - Excellent hotel with a stunning room overlooking the harbour.
Evening meal was excellent with great service.
Breakfast was cooked to order and very nice
Would highly recommend
- Hazel (10/5): Excellent room with a view - Very tastefully decorated large room with a view of the harbour, even from the large bathroom. We had an evening meal in the bar lovely food and excellent service. Very sad to leave ☹️
- G (10/5): - Lovely newly refurbished rooms, big shower and amazing view. It’s in a great location too! The staff is very friendly and available
- Trevor (10/5): - great staff. hotel old but very comfortable and clean
- Brian (8/5): Small inn overlooking the harbour and great staff - Lovely small inn overlooking the harbour. Unfortunately our room didn’t but it was a last minute booking and we got the last available room. The pub is a quaint old English feel with locals and holidaymakers alike.
We also ate at the restaurant in the evening. Service was very good and attentive if fact throughout our stay the staff were excellent.
The only downside really was that the room was incredibly warm even with the heating off and the window open.
Our room was very small but pleasant and clean enough.
Well worth a visit in my opinion.
- Keith (10/5): Top class Inn with beautiful location - Very clean & comfortable room, excellent shower, good wiFi , big TV , great nights sleep on relaxing bed . Fantastic view of the harbour. Staff friendly , service excellent , food good quality . Local people very friendly. Highly recommended. All in all top class.
Parking is a short distance from the pub £3 overnight so have coins.
- Waraluk (8/5): - Amazing room & view, friendly staff, very good food
- Katherine (10/5): - The staff was welcoming and friendly and the experience was wonderful. Would stay there again anytime! The location is perfect to enjoy the views, and the pub and restaurant atmosphere was warm and welcoming
- johnny (10/5): Lovely setting. Really relaxed location - Really relaxed. Perfect location and lovely view. Lovely food and really good atmosphere.
- cj (10/5): A great escape - It felt very snug sitting watching the rain lashing the harbour outside. The staff were really friendly, the food was good and the room warm and comfortable. You can hear noise from the bar downstairs but then you are staying at an inn!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice harbour side pub & hotel - Have stayed here before and decided on that visit to come back again.
Perfect for a few days to get away from the city and chill out
- Annie (8/5): Fantastic harbour views - Lovely hotel bright cosy rooms Parking can be a problem.
- David (8/5): Good food but in need of some minor maintenance - Stayed for 1 night prior to catching a flight from lands end. Bed was comfortable and food was nice. Rooms were in need of some general maintenance and tidying up, 2nd room had no valance on the bed and there was orange juice which had been spilt and not cleaned up properly. The location was good, but anyone thinking no of travelling to Mousehole beware of the very narrow busy streets, nearly every local car has scratches, bumps and scrapes on them!
- G&D (10/5): Superb - This hotel is in a lovely location with fantastic views of the harbour in Mousehole.
The staff are great very helpful and friendly, we had a small problem on the first night of our two night stay and thanks to Barry for being do proactive in resolving the issues we presented to him.
If you want a very nice B&B in this area I would definitely recommend the ship inn.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Unique hotel with good view. - Tiny room, with no opening windows. Temperature was 32 degrees.
- Verified traveler (10/5): The Ship Inn, Mousehole - Although our room in the cottage next door was small it was spotless and very well appointed. We had room 5 at the front with a view over the harbour. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service most efficient. The food in the Fo'c'sle restaurant was first rate - all locally sourced........ The traffic passing is a problem but the bus to Penzance is frequent and one can leave the car parked for £3 for 24 hours.
