- 888DF71 (4/5): Less than to be desired - Normally we love this restaurant. We have been numerous times. This time the service was subpar. We asked for water when we ordered our drinks and none were ever brought. Then we were given two menus the regular and the specials. We decided on an appetizer from the special menu and when the server came and we gave her our order, we were told that only one thing on that special menu was still available not what we ordered. We opted for the poutine instead to split since we were getting fries for an appetizer. We both got sandwiches with side salad. With an up charge. After waiting a very long time our entrees came out. I notified the runner that we had ordered an appetizer as well, and the waitress came over and seemed surprised. We opted out of the appetizer at that point because our entrées were already there, I had finished my drink and the waitress came over and grabbed my glass without asking if I wanted another, I needed to ask for that specifically. When she came back with my drink, she took my daughter’s half drink, glass of soda without asking, and before we could stop her, she was gone. The manager came over and offered us a free dessert due to the fact that we never received our entrée, we politely declined, and nothing more was offered. Not to mention, my medium burger was pretty much rare. I normally love coming here to eat, but lately the service has been subpar

- sylviab737 (4/5): Very disappointing for the money we paid - No welcome, very small old room, uncomfortable queen bed, the chair in the room was sagged. You could not open the windows. Noisy in the night. We paid USD 236 for 1 night during the fall peak. It was definitely not worth it. Very cheeky waitress in the restaurant, who forced us to pay 20% tip while she was not working properly. She didn't bring our food and she forgot our order two times ans she told all her co workers that we refused to pay 20% extra while we could hear it. After complaining we got 54 USD complaint discount. We answered that we were not satisfied with this amount, but up till now there was no reaction of the manager towards us. It's a shame.
- Connie (2/5): - We booked here partially for the name -it implies a private quiet setting. Nothing could be further from the truth! Our room felt like it was 5 feet from a VERY busy road - loud traffic roaring by constantly. We booked knowing we would arrive late and would appreciate a restaurant/bar onsite to have a late supper and relax. We got a text at 2 pm on the day of arrival announcing the restaurant was going to be closed that night. Not happy. Then when we arrived (around 6) there was no one around - just a piece of paper stuck on the door with our name saying where to find our room and that the key was in the door! Anyone coming through the facility at any time could have entered that room and .... therefore we had no sense of privacy or cleanliness right from the start. The bed was so crammed in it was tight to the wall/window and no room for even a small bedside table anywhere. We pulled back the curtain and the blinds/curtain/window RIGHT BY THE BED were absolutely filthy! There were spiders everywhere! The sink and tub wouldn't drain properly, so you ended up with inches of water standing as you attempted to shower (YUK!) or brush your teeth (double YUK!). Breakfast was promised at 7:30. We were ready to get out of there, but stopped by for coffee and maybe a muffin - nothing was ready! So we didn't even get that. This place is very over priced and should be avoided at all costs! They promised a refund over 2 weeks ago, but to date we've received nothing!

- Jeffrey (8/5): Simple but sweet - Hyde Away Inn, though rustic and simple, was perfectly enjoyable. Accommodations were spare but comfortable and dinner and breakfast excellent. Staff were friendly, courteous and timely. Really a nice place if you don't need all the bells and whistles. The basics were just fine.

- antonaO4265TC (2/5): Avoid This Place - We stayed in M3 room over the Christmas weekend. At $190/night the place is terribly overpriced for what you get. Hotel is very dated and seems more of a business on the side than anything else. If you are thinking of staying there – DON’T. Just to give you an idea of the state of the hotel: - Door knob from the bathroom door just fall off the first time we touched it. - Thermostat was broken. Room temperature did not align with the settings on it. After a few attempts we realized that setting the dial to 60F gives ~75F indoor temperature. - Hot water was extremely unreliable. I tried showering on two days around 8-9 PM and on both days the water temperature was fluctuating back-and-forth from ice cold to boiling hot without turning the knob. So, I had to tweak the know all the time and jumping out of the water when it was getting too cold or too hot. On the second day I also was “lucky” enough to see the water turn the color of strong coffee while I was starting to shower. That was quite disgusting. I have never seen that before in a hotel. - Sound-proofing was non-existent. Room that we stayed in was attached to the main tavern building and we could hear everything that was happening inside the tavern from our room. Tavern was open until 10 PM (later on some days) and the doors keep banging well past that. Good luck trying to get some sleep. On top of those major items, there were a few minor ones. Pillows on the bed were very thin and uncomfortable. If you are a side-sleeper, your neck would hurt after sleeping on them. Our room has also never been cleaned even though we stayed for two nights. Hotel also offered free breakfast. And the food, unlike the hotel itself, was good. The problem was more on the side of timing. Breakfast starts at 7:30 AM and the fastest we could be done (between ordering, waiting for food, and eating) was 8:10 AM. Lifts open at 8, so the breakfast is definitely not geared towards the skiers. Please avoid this BnB at all costs. You will not be able to get good sleep or shower. At least if you are staying in any rooms directly attached to the main tavern building (which is most of the rooms). It is absolutely not worth the money and you would be better off staying anywhere else.

Even did guests laundry upon request though we used laundromat 5 min down the road. Inn located about 5-10 min outside of town. Room was cozy and clean. Rates were reasonable in comparison to area lodging.
- AmeliaStrav (4/5): Horrible Service - We recently ate at the restaurant and I normally don’t write reviews, especially for local businesses, but we were seated and not approached once for 35 minutes. No wait staff came over or even looked in our direction, not even to bring us waters or say hello/welcome. We even asked the hostess to send someone over, and we had to ask again after 10 minutes because we still hadn’t been approached. When a server finally came over, she did not even mention how long we had been waiting. The food was good but we didn’t even get one of the drinks we ordered and another drink was different than what was described on the menu. The vibe was fun but this did not make up for the lack of hospitality. We were there for over two hours, and not because we wanted to be. Overall I’ve never had to put up with this poor service, and I won’t be returning to Hyde Away Inn Restaurant.

- 801farm (2/5): No thanks - I don't understand why this place has good reviews. We were not welcomed when we arrived. Service in restaurant and bar were terrible. Ordered a salad and it came with no dressing. Our waitress never came back even when I asked her for it. I finally had to go looking for a waitstaff to ask for it again. The couple next to me waited for a sprite for 40 minutes. The guy setting up continental breakfast was rude. The bed creaked like old springs and floor in bathroom crunched because tiles were broken. In my 70 years, never slept in a room as awful as at this "inn" I would never recommend this place. It's for the locals- keep it that way.

I accidentally booked a double bed, which made it difficult for my wife and I but that’s on me. The room was tiny and the bathroom was very basic. We had to put things under the bed and we were still stepping on our stuff. The staff was friendly and accommodated as best I could.
- Barbara (6/5): Not what we expected - We chose the Hyde Away because it seemed like a small, friendly place that would really cater to their guests. What we found is that they seemed uninterested in providing hospitality to us. The room was clean enough but the condition of the bathroom was in need of improvement. No housekeeping during our stay. Breakfast was included. The staff seemed inconvenienced to prepare eggs and they were overcooked. Dinner was very good but very rushed. Our meals came before we finished our appetizer. Disappointing experience.
- Vlapinta1 (2/5): Caution when booking an event - Sorry for this long review, but I want to be accurate. My son was getting married in Vermont. We wanted to have a meet and greet, to get the wedding weekend started. We approached Jean and booked the HydeAway over 1 year in advance because they were the only venue that would not charge us for the space, and they would stay open to the public. I felt it was Perfect for both parties ( win/win) We informed Jean at our first meeting that we could have over 100 guests, and she assured us it would not be a problem After the first meeting communication with Jean was very poor, and very frustrating. Sometimes it would take her a month to answer a simple question. I have all the emails I sent her and her responses did not go to my spam folder as she inferred. The emails were just not answered. 1 week before our event I finally lost my patience and unfortunately my frustration was taken out on someone when I tried to call and speak to Jean. I apologized over and over to this young woman, who I kept telling her it was not her fault, and told her how frustrated I was. I finally spoke to Jean after sending more emails and making more phone calls. We expected over 100 guests that night. I confirmed with Jean our arrival time of 8 PM a few days before. She responded back “We are all set. See you Friday” Many of my out of town guests were traveling over 7 hours, and I was concerned they would arrive to Vermont tired and hungry. I wanted to make sure the food was out for them. I arrived at 7:45 and nothing was set up, nor was there any food out. I ordered a taco bar, 20 dz wings, along with cookies and brownies for 75 guests. This was about $1000 worth of food. I started searching for Jean inside and out. I finally found her and introduced myself. She informed me they would start to put out the food slowly. It was now after 8 PM. She put out a tray of cookies. Cookies!!! Really? My guests are hungry!! Finally she started putting out the taco bar. Wings came out a dz or two at a time. I expected a tray of 20 dz wings, or at least 10 dz to start. I couldn’t even tell if we even got the 20 dz wings we ordered! I had so many guests inform me how rude some of the bar tenders and some of the staff were. One of my guests asked a female bartender what kind of bourbon they offered. She pointed to the bottles (or a sign) My guest could not read from so far away, and informed the bar tender this, but she just walked away without even serving her. 2 other guests were reprimanded for standing in the wrong place by the bar. Guests were told rudely they could not sit in certain places. Staff should be taught to communicate kindly. I understand the restaurant is open serving dinner as per our agreement. Many of my guests were having dinner before as well. Some of the staff was kind and helpful. Thank you! We had many interactions with several other inns, restaurants and businesses in Waitsfield such as Mad Taco, Lareau Farms, Tucker Hill Inn, White Horse Inn and Sugarbush during the weekend, and did not have any issues except with this place. Many of the other local guests having dinner while we were at Hyde Away were very sweet, and offered their Congratulations, and we did have some very nice interactions with some of the other guests at the bar and the restaurant. We were a large group ( over 100) but we were not rowdy or disrespectful in any way. Unfortunately because of my bad experience I cannot recommend this establishment.
- coleary88 (6/5): You Get What You Pay For - Our room was clean with comfortable seating and bed. However, there was an annoying bass music sound that repeated it self almost sounding like bass guitar practice. It played from 2:30 pmuntil 3:30 pm while we were relaxing before leaving for a wedding at 3:45 and then noticed it again at 6:45 AM the next morning. I thought maybe it was a radio playing in the kitchen while they were prepping but we were on the opposite end of the inn from the kitchen and bar. Also. My son Son-in-law and grandchildren stayed in the room closest to the road and my SIL said he couldn’t sleep because he could feel the cars going by and was afraid one might crash into his room. The bunk beds are made for small children and the top bunk doesn’t have a bed rail. My 13 year old grand son was afraid to sleep on the top bunk so he moved up and slept in the trundle in our room. One other thing. There was a sign in the room asking us not to shower between 4 and 6:00 or we may get low pressure and no hot water, and another sign that said not to use the bathtub or jets because it causes a leak in the room below. The area has lots to do recreationally. we found a great place to jump off rocks in the river right down the street. There are many other inns in this locations that other people raved about from the wedding, but they were twice the price. This is one….you get what you pay for. Sorry to not be able to write a favorable review :(
- daniel (10/5): - The Hyde Away was a perfect getaway for our Sugarbush ski weekend. The Innkeepers (Jean, Ana and Paul ) truly care about the facilities and service. Food is outstanding, crafts beers galore at the pub and Karen the pub manager runs a tight ship . The accommodations were extremely comfortable, and clean . Last but certainly not least the breakfast is as good as it gets ! Looking forward to going back ! DGDietz

- Susan (10/5): - Had specifically gone to Waitsfield to hike and bike. Hyde Away Inn was clean, simple and convenient. The hotel was extremely accommodating to a special request I had and the staff was really helpful and good. It was a great Fall getaway.

Picking the Hyde Away from right here on trip advisor was best part of our entire trip. From the beautuful, cozy room to the incredible food & overly friendly staff you can count on being taken good care of while here. The restaurant was reservation only, limited#'s due to covid and was full the 2 nights we were there. We enjoyed all of the food, especially the the shrimp linguini & meatloaf. We felt very safe and appreciated all the extra they did to be able to stay open as not many restaurants in the area are, open that is. Before we left we enjoyed a great little hike right out the back of the property and sat next to the soothing sounds of the brook right on the property as well. The electricity set-up was a little scary, with a lot of extensions and many items plugged into the same socket. The building was very old, however, that was part of the charm. The restaurant was very good, and the staff very helpful.

Conveniently located near Sugarbush, Mt. Ellen and other lodging.

- JayJNorthFork (10/5): Very good dinner experience on busy night - Busy Saturday presidents weekend dinner for 7 of family & friends. After a miscue on the reservation time(which they called us to verify earlier in the day, but had wrote us down in the book 45min earlier than they confirmed with us.). The kind receptionist said she would still work us in, and she did within 20 minutes. The bartenders were really great, and attentive, and the drinks & selection very good. Appetizers very good. Buffalo wings very good, just the right amount of heat. Tuna tar tar was awesome! Heaping pile of nachos. Mains were good with prime rib being the hit at the table..., but my only beef is that my $38 Rib eye...was a big let down, very fatty, and tough. No time for desert. Will not let the poor quality Rib Eye stop me from giving 5 stars as this was overall a very good dinner experience!
- RobertD133 (6/5): rustic vermont inn - This is the my first stay in a Vermont Inn. I'm sure most rooms are different as are most Inns. My room was small with historic wood flooring and wood paneling. Bed and a nightstand, lamp and fan, no TV.. Pretty basic. Situated over the bar so there was music playing til the wee hours underneath. The Inn had a comfortable living room with TV and games for the kids. Restaurant and bar do quite a good business at nights. Breakfast was included. Cooked to order eggs, pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage, juice and coffee. French toast was pretty good. Pancakes pretty average. Check in and out was easy.
- Nadia (8/5): Long weekend at the Hyde Away - We've stayed at the Hyde Away over the years while skiing at Mad River Glen. I have fond memories of what used to be "The Snuggery" during my college days at UVM. We had not stayed since the inn changed ownership a few years ago. We rented the separate house, which is spacious, updated and very comfortable. Only drawback if you have more than the four people we had staying in it would be that there is only one bathroom. Lots of snow while we were there, and my husband had to shovel as their plow had plowed us in. Breakfast is not included in the house, and in my opinion, is not worth the $10/person that they charge. Morning server is not very friendly. Ate dinner in the dining room one evening, and it was mixed. Not as consistently great as it has been in the past. Overall, still one of our favorite places to stay, but some areas could use improvement (food, service.)
- panielsen (10/5): Maple Chicken, Oh Yeah! - This was the best dinner of my Vermont stay! John, our server, suggested this dish for me and oh, my God, it was incredible! Hubby enjoyed the meatloaf. But prior to this, do order the fabulous award-winning Sushi-grade tuna appetizer - nice presentation and so very delicious, nice for two! This place was a little out of the way but we're so glad we made the effort after reading reviews and checking out the menu. A real country Vermont feel here, a menu with a chef who really delivers, excellent service and very friendly people, a truly welcoming vib! We highly recommend! (Thanks again John for the "Maple Chicken" preparation tips! You will be remembered back home in WI when I attempt to make it!)
- cherryfan (10/5): Taco Tuesday - 2nd Visit in 3 days whilst staying locally. John gave us a great welcome and was very helpful talking us round the taco menu and suggesting beers to accompany our food. Altogether a great evening and very popular judging by how busy it was.
- sarahwemmer (10/5): Amazing place ! - We were in the area for one night, found this restaurant on yelp and it did not disappoint ! Upon walking in the ambiance was very nice, cozy and relaxing. We were sat within minutes and taken care of by a lovely waitress named Jennifer. Our meal came very quickly, nice and hot, and was absolutely delicious ! We also highly recommend leaving room for dessert because we tried every item and they were phenomenal !
- virginiagamer (10/5): Hiker friendly! - This Inn is extremely hiker friendly for a number of reasons. First, they have a hiker box. Second, they offer drop-off at the trailhead. Third, if you need to go into town, they have bicycles that you can borrow to go into town. Fourth, they have an attached restaurant that serves both breakfast and dinner, so you don't have to go into town if you don't want to. Fifth and finally, they offer mail services. In addition to all these great hiker amenities, the Hyde Away Inn also has friendly staff and nice rooms. If you're hiking The Long Trail, the Hyde Away Inn is a great place to stay in Waitsfield!
- Darci (8/5): Fine but would check out other places next time - Our stay overall was fine. The better aspects of the Hyde Away Inn are the attached restaurant and it’s proximity to the local small town. The decor is older but everything was clean and in fine condition. The woman I worked with for booking wasn’t overly friendly and seemed put out a little. It’s possible that they were short staffed and so she might have just been dealing with that. They weren’t able to do breakfast in the morning because of being short staffed so she gave us vouchers for a place 1 mike up the road to have breakfast. That place was Mad Barn Inn and the owner and staff there was extremely friendly. If we were in that area again, we would stay at the Mad Barn Inn. It was just a better feeling B&B experience over there, with gorgeous grounds, nice decor, and super friendly staff (and a dog onsite:-)). The restaurant at Hyde Away was quaint and we would recommend it. We would stay at the Inn again if needed but would prefer to check out other lodging options if we were in that area.

- alysonc685 (10/5): Great dinner for a large group - We were in town - a group of 12 - for a family wedding a couple of days early and went to Hyde Away for dinner. Everything about it made for an awesome experience. We were seated in a slightly secluded room and got GREAT service from John. He was super attentive in making sure everyone had drinks and dishes and everything they needed. Lots of variety in food and everything came out quickly, correct and was delicious! A really fun and very easy place to celebrate with a group!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): At the Hyde Away - Hyde Away, named for the original owners, is a hybrid accommodation experience. Hotel rates w/ a hostel vibe. My room was dorm style, sharing a bathroom w/ room across the hall. This worked fine for my purposes as the other room was vacant during my stay. Not sure I'd choose this during peak season. This being said, it's cozy, staff are friendly and breakfast is included. My room was over the bar, which didn't bother as I was out from wake to sleep, though if one is not a night owl or is a light sleeper, well don't take rooms over bars. No complaints w/ the Hyde Away. While my first choice is to stay w/ friends while in vt, I would stay here again.
- ROC3760 (8/5): Great food, great location, rooms ok - Outstanding food! Great location near sugarbush and mad river glen. Owners and staff were great, very friendly and supportive. Bar and pool table area was a plus. Our fireplace room was clean, bed was comfortable. But overall we found our room to be outdated and overpriced for what it was compared to other options in the area. Website pictures do them major justice. If they put a little investment into updating the rooms, (or dropped room rates to reflect condition) this place would be a spot on. We paid the premium for the fireplace room thinking it had a real fireplace as it appeared on the website. Actually it was a cheap gas insert with a weak flame, not worth the premium rate for the novelty. Parking lots on both sides are mud, need new stone or paving. Building is so close to the road that it creates a blind curve that is tough to get out of without getting creamed by oncoming traffic. Don't listen to where they tell you to park, pick the side that will give you the best visibility for your exit direction. Overall as a rustic Vermont Inn, it's not bad, but not great for what they are charging. We would have rated average, but the fantastic food got them our Very Good rating. I'm not sure if we'll stay here again, but we will definitely be back for apres and dinner!

It provides an affordable sleeping set-up, with excellent food & I even got to enjoy some local music in the pub as a bonus after a great day on the slopes! The breakfast that came with the package was local, tasty & the perfect way to power up before enjoying an amazing day of fresh powder at Mad River Glen!

- Anatoliy (10/5): Family trip for a long weekend - Beautiful rustic inn in peaceful Vermont mountains. Well preserved and very charming. Lots of room for a family (we stayed in a biggest suit). The lounge area is a great place to relax after busy day of hiking or skiing. Super friendly service. The only small complain is for some road noise in the bedrooms. The building is very close to route 17 and few passing cars could be heard well in the otherwise very quiet rooms. I think it is the only suit with windows facing the road. Again, very small issue. Simply nothing else even to mention. Overall very pleasant stay. Thank you!

He was able to do his laundry on site and they even had extra clothing for him to wear while he was washing his. They have two rooms that allow dogs for. A $20 fee.
