Guest Reviews
- Graham (10/5): - Basic accommodation but certainly clean, comfortable and an excellent night’s sleep. Staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. Breakfasts are really good.
And it’s brilliant just to be able to tumble into bed above the bar where you’ve been enjoying live music.
Great value for money (and we are repeat visitors !)
- Atanas (10/5): - Sooo good
- Angela (8/5): - Lovely stay but it felt like there were no windows in thr room as you could here everything going on outside.
- Dawn (10/5): - The rooms are a bit worn but right in the middle of Shrewsbury.
- Sally (6/5): Perfect Location , Good Value but..... - This is a beautiful building, fabulous location in historic Shrewsbury. The rooms are fine, nothing special but not awful - bit tired, carpets were stained and windows filthy but comfy bed, The private bathroom was tiny and had mold on the shower frame and tiles. It's only a 5 minute walk from the NCP car park which is a good value £7.95 for 24 hours if you pay by the app so don't let the lack of parking facilities put you off. We stayed on a Saturday night and the live music from the Bull and neighbouring places was LOUD! Went on till gone midnight but then it was fairly quiet and nice to have no traffic noise. Breakfast looked great but we had the full English and you could taste the ingredients were cheap, sausages went straight to the dog! So, mixed bag but good value overall.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Excellent stay and great staff, would stay there again.
- Sharon (6/5): - Staff friendly,BnB poor condition
- Peter (2/5): - Nowhere to park. Best suggestion from the pub was NCP car park, over 10 minutes walk away. I did not stay. I will try to get a refund.
- Michael (6/5): - Great location and excellent breakfast. Very comfortable bed and quiet after the pub closed. The bathroom lacked ventilation and the tv reception was terrible but overall a good place.
- Gary (8/5): A nice and convenient place to stay. - Its a nice traditional Inn in a lovely old building. Bar is nice with a decent outside area. Staff are friendly and helpful. Only had breakfast once but was very nice. There is music from the bar some evenings but went off at a reasonable time. Cleanliness of bathroom could of been better.
- Colm (2/5): It seems to be only suitable for travelers withhi. - I had to cancel my booking because there was no carpark for my motorcycle.
- GAIL (4/5): - Bedroom was fine, bathroom was tiny & poorly lit. The noise level was unbearable. Advised at check in a band would playing till 11pm but the music went on till about 1am & nearby properties later than that. Felt like I was in party central.
Based on my experience I don’t recommend this property.
- r (10/5): Quaint - Very friendly and helpful staff. Right in the centre if town. Better if you come by train rather than car!
- Ross Ian (2/5): - The property alone is tired, dated and the Bed are very uncomfortable. We book a room with Private toilet, but the toilet is locales outside our room. The Wifi is not possible in the room.
- Sandra (8/5): - Unsure of the age of the building, think it’s Tudor period, and surrounding building.
- Alan (8/5): - The stay was fine.
No issues.
- Naomi (8/5): Good location - Ok
- Maria (6/5): - The rooms were small, clean and adequate. They were cleaned each day. The inn is centrally located and is a historic building in an old mews setting and a lively pub in the evening. The staff were friendly and helpful.
If you want peace and quiet perhaps not the place for you. As mentioned it is centrally located so there is the noise from the fairly busy street and live music from the inn itself though it does end at 11pm on the dot.
Summary: Value for money in a central position.
- PAUL (8/5): - Excellent value for money, ideal central location and friendly staff. On the downside, it’s starting to look a little bit tired in places but I think this reflects in the price.
- Anna (10/5): - Good locaton in centre off town.Price are very reasonable.
- Jacqueline (10/5): - I’ve stayed here previously, always appreciate the warm welcome from staff, explained everything thoroughly….very comfortable room, slept well!
There is live music and there were a lot of people having a great time, finished at a reasonable time so no worries here.
The only thing I would suggest that needs attention is the shower curtain, it created a musty smell in the bathroom.
I’ll hopefully be back next year.
- Peter Mark (6/5): - Too many steep stairs to bedroom. Which was also at the front of property and therefore very noisy when pub was open and when customers leaving at closing time. Also, deliveries very early (around 6am) and very noisy. On the plus side, good staff nice breakfast
- Kate (8/5): Great location - Room was comfortable however the bathroom was opposite the room. This made going to the toilet in the night a little awkward. Didn’t use the shower as the shower head looked rusty.
The breakfast was delicious and piping hot
Cooked to perfection.
- David Huw (10/5): Happy customer - Really nice stay
Very clean room
Very hospitable welcome
Quiet night considering it was in the tiwn centre
And Really good breakfast
- Terry (8/5): Good central pub/Hotel - Nice pub but emptying of bins by council at 5:30 am not appreciated
- Jane (8/5): - Great place to stay right in the centre of Shrewsbury off site parking at the NCP easy to get to and £8 for 24 hours comfy bed great atmosphere
- Karen (10/5): - Great stay at this very clean, comfortable Inn.
- Simon (6/5): - Good location , friendly staff . Rooms pleasant enough to look at but bathroom across corridor and windows dont shut properly as broken locks . Communal areas scruffy . But it was cheap.
- Kevin (10/5): - Nice central location in the heart of the town. Nice room and friendly staff. Would recommend to others.
- Alan (8/5): Great Location - Helpful staff, wonderful location, large, comfortable bed in a spacious room.
A constant buzzing might be addressed outside the room, and some natural light.
- Jaroslava (6/5): - The Bull Inn was in a great location and the room was nice. You need to be aware that there is loud live music on Saturday evening, which makes the room very noise.
- Julie (6/5): - Staff were great, friendly and very pleasant, room was nicely decorated just a bit tired. Bathroom smelt of mould, shower curtain was mouldly and the shower wasnt great the head kept falling down. Overall nice place just a bit tired.
- Stuart (2/5): Not the most relaxing stay. - Not the best of stays, if I'm being honest. Open mike night on downstairs right below my room, decided to go down and have a few drinks as couldn't hear the telly. Went to bed at 11pm when music finished then got woken up by police banging on my bedroom door saying that there had been an incident outside the hotel involving an assault on bar staff and one of them had identified me as one of those involved. I tried to explain that this wasn't really possible as I'd been in bed since 11.20 but apparently I couldn't have been because I was outside fighting at 12.20. Phoned hotel next day and got apology, still waiting for my apology from the female police woman who insisted that she'd seen the CCTV footage and it was definitely me. Are they really allowed to lie in order to trick someone into confessing, I'm sure they're not. Anyway all in all not the best of stays and in conclusion I'd say don't stay here unless you have a cast iron alibi.
- R (8/5): Good stay. - Beautiful room but had a seperate private bathroom. Website stated free wifi, blow dryer but there was neither. Friendly staff.
- David (8/5): - Great central location with friendly staff, comfy bed but the en-suite needs some attention, towel rail is rusty and not working so it was very cold in the bathroom and the extractor fan was not working so the walls were wet with condensation after shower also the shower drain seemed to be a bit blocked.
- Geoffrey (8/5): - The pub is verry central to all areas of the town
- Michael (8/5): - Great central location easy walking distance into city center
- Glynn (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay very busy ate at night food was good. Breakfast excellent and superb quality ingredients
- Thamary (8/5): - I did not like the fact that there was no parking, and I had to go round looking for places to park which I had to pay as well. Free parking in some areas starts at 6pm, checking in was 2pm. Carrying bags from parking areas to the booked place was difficult, its uphill and it was raining, so it was a bit of a challenge for me.
There was a lot of noise from the pub which come straight to the bedrooms, to an extent that I could hardly hear my TV. There was life music in the Pub, so I could not sleep until 11pm, when the pub was closed. I was very disappointed with that.
- jonathan (10/5): - Very friendly staff comfortable bed , right on the middle of the historic parr of Shrewsbury
- Paul (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable room and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend
- Sarah (10/5): - Lovely comfy bed, lovely staff and very tasty breakfast
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location but a bit tired. - The good bits:
Great location
Friendly Staff
Heating worked
Beds fairly comfortable but basic
Breakfast ok but basic
Stored our bags until our train was due
The Bad Bits:
Woken at 5am by street noise.
No sound insulation
Windows banged and rattled all night
Only one hanger in the wardrobe
No glasses in the room
No bathroom in the room, bathroom is like a cupboard size and across the hallway so beware if needing a pee in the night
Doors are heavy and noisy so not ideal if you do need to pee during the night as will wake other guests
Pillows uncomfortable
No wifi in the room
Could feel air coming through the closed sash window
Access up some very scruffy looking staircases
Off street access very scruffy inside
No lift and some rooms up 4 flights of stairs, no offer of help with bags
- Jean (10/5): - Original old building.
- Gary (4/5): Some good points and not so good - im sorry to say this but it was a disappointing stay. Firstly partly my fault for not reading properly but the car park was a 15 min walk away and my bathroom was across the hallway. The Bed was extremely comfortable but the room was dirty and the dust behind the Tv lookslike its never been cleaned.
The decor was lovely but because the hotel is so old the sash windows dont shut and the draft was bad and the noise from the street was very loud.
The highlight was the lady sorted me out some bacon sandwichs and a coffee at about 8am because breakfast didnt start till 8.30 . a bit late for professionals needing to get to work.
when i arrived back from work i was looking forward to some nice hotel pub grub only to find no food after 4.30
- Christopher (10/5): - .
- Amy (8/5): - Great hotel in Shrewsbury. Close to all bars and restaurants. Just be aware there is live music most weekends so fairly noisy - didnt bother us as we were out for the evening.
- Jayne (10/5): Great stay - Super friendly staff, helpful and accomodating. Rooms comfortable.
- Chris (10/5): quiet and comfy - Business trip, comfy bed, shower needs attention but overall comfortabe
- Tony (10/5): - Sorry nice chap that met me at reception. Unfortunately for got his name. Really helpful. Great room.
Great staff. Would definitely stay again. Thank you.
- Carol (4/5): - The stairs leading up to the bedroom and the bedroom and linen smelt musty I would not stay there again.
- Trevor (8/5): - Very loud music downstairs on Friday and Saturday night.
- David (8/5): - Look after my bags after chek out until i was leaving the town.
- David (8/5): - Had a wonderful stay and a pleasant nights sleep clean towels easy to use shower
- Andy (6/5): - Everything about our stay was great until the Fire alarm went off at about 6:05 this morning everyone who was staying there made there way outside. There was No staff present my wife rang Three emergency numbers no one answered. Finally Laura rang back and said to my wife she would get a taxi to the pub. The alarm did stop but I found the whole incident poor to be honest and let our stay down.
- Ynyr (10/5): - Friendly staff and a Great breakfast!
- M (8/5): - Good qualityfor the price and staff were very accomodating. Ideally i would have liked some form of extractor in the bathroom but generally good.
- Janet (8/5): - Good breakfast room basic but ok for one night it was clean and tidy.
- William (8/5): - Smack bang centre of town. Didn’t realise that private bathroom was outside the room,so awkward in the night to visit toilet having to use different keys
- Keith (8/5): - Pub is in the city centre.
- Wendy (10/5): Couple Stay - Stayed here for two nights and it was clean and just what we needed for our stay. Breakfast was very good too
- Rose (2/5): - We weren't told till we arrived at the pub that there was a live band playing on Friday night But there was another live band on Saturday night so we didn't have any sleep on our stay and on Sunday night they had the jukebox going loud we've never stayed at a place where we had to cross the landing to go to the bathroom there were no double glazing and no Black out blinds so if you are looking for a quiet place to stay I wouldn't recommend this place
- Brian (8/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very central, and a comfortable, clean room. As they say, they do have live bands on Friday and Saturday night.
- Irene Paddock (10/5): - The location is such that parking is difficult. It is located in a pedestrian zone and we missed this ... We had to walk uphill with our cases which was extremely difficult. pARKING arrangements should be made more clear.
- JANE (6/5): Not worth money - Noisy, lots of stairs.bathroom had strange smell and a very uncomfortable mattress
- Sarah (6/5): - The Staff were lovely and it's a lovely central location. The pub was nice and they had a great band playing live music which i enjoyed. If you're not into loud music this place is not for you. I could hear every word loudly in my room. (Single room 4 poster) my friends in the hotel next door could be them as well!
It was a well presented room with us own shower room and toilet with good presentation. However there are no windows to the outside for fresh air just to a weird void that they've decorated with fake plants that looks into the hallway where other guests are walking and can see into the room so you have to close the curtains
The air con machine in the room was broken and there was a rubbish tower fan in there which didn't really do anything apart from make noise.
The room with us lack of window was also unsafe. If there was a fire outside the room you'd have to climb through the void window which seemed to be in a asking and didn't stay open and break another window just to get to the hallway.
I woke up with a horrible headache and felt awful (not a hangover as i don't drink) because of how stuffy the room was. The air vent in the room wouldn't even open either. Please sort this out because it's really unpleasant and can't be safe having no ventilation in the room expecially with covid.
- Angela (6/5): - Unfortunately ,whilst we expecred noise staying above a pub, we didn't expect deliveries at 1.30 am, or allow for the noise of the cobbles from 6am.
Bed too was rather uncomfortable, only a single sheet on the mattress, no protector, and a heavy quilt. All in all a very poor nights sleep.
We had booked breakfast, but there was only a cooked option, no cereal/ fruit etc.
- Richard (10/5): - The place was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly
- Paul (10/5): - Couldn’t fault anything and in a convenient area with all amenities close by
- Susan (10/5): - Central location friendly and clean. Parking is not available but its not to far away from town centre
- Simon (10/5): Excellent - The bull inn at Shrewsbury is a great place to stay staff are very helpful and friendly would recommend to anyone
- G (8/5): Short stay in Shrewsbury - Great location to explore Shrewsbury from and lively at the weekend, the room we had was quite nice ,the carpets though throughout are a little tired. Breakfast was good.
- Richard (10/5): - Great stay/ great staff/ great location/ beautiful town 5 star stay.
- Jonathan (10/5): - The pub is in an interesting area. The staff were welcoming and efficient. My bedroom was comfortable and bathroom spotless.
- Carol (4/5): Nosey and dirty - The carpet needed hoovering under the bed and around the sides, con webs on the lamp, faulty lighting in the bedroom and the cleaner took my shoe bag from our room
- Paul (8/5): Great location - Shrewsbury is a great place for a short break, full of historic and architectural interest and numerous good places to eat. The Bill Inn is in a great location - just step out of the door and your in the middle of a well-preserved Tudor street. But no insight parking is a pain - nearest overnight parking is at NCP, a five/ten minute walk away, although the car can be brought up to the door to drop off luggage etc. And steep, awkward stairs to accommodation, so beware. Staff - superb: friendly, relaxed, helpful, nothing too much trouble, which makes up for a lot.
- Rob (10/5): - Nice en-suite room, big comfy bed, very nice breakfast in the morning.
The person who checked me in was fast, helpful and friendly, zero hassle at all. Only thing to remember is there is no parking at this hotel but there are options nearby. Overall excellent and I would recommend.
- Mr (10/5): Ideal - Great location and service
- Peter (10/5): - Really nice staff, great stay.
- Dave (10/5): - A welcoming place, nice clean room and a great breakfast.
- Jane (6/5): - Very noisey outside. Entrance to the accomadation dirty and un kept. Paint tins in corridor not good. Room was clean
- CLAIRE (6/5): - The hotel had had a bit of a make over I think, some redecorating. The room was clean and adequate.
- Paul (6/5): - Noisy Saturday night, with lots of people enjoying the fine weather until very late, no effort made to keep noise down, even after midnight.
Room was no more than adequate, staff were generally helpful, but the pub below was very busy at times, which made communication difficult.
Other people who stayed were happy, but I would not recommend if you like your sleep.
- Alfred (10/5): - Was Very Nice!
- Jamie (10/5): - A lovely old style inn with rooms for the night. Room was lovely, bed very comfy and the area was quiet. Breakfast in the morning was top notch.
- Mark (8/5): - Nice easy check-in, room good size nice bathroom, only down was the mattress didnt get any sleep due to the springs sticking in my back all nighg.
- Julie (6/5): Good value & good location - We've stayed there a few times before. When we arrived we were told we'd booked a twin room with no on suite; that was not the case. They did amend this with no problem. Staff were friendly & helpful.
- Andrew (10/5): - Character property in central location. Check in staff very helpful.
- Juliet (4/5): Terrible hotel - Terrible stay live bands on till 12.00 very noisy rooms we’re dirty shower was full of hairs there was no wi-fi no hair dryer or dressing gowns but the live band was very load wouldn’t stay there again
- paul (6/5): Night away - Had to stop the night in Shrewsbury, price was reasonable, so I thought until I got into the room. Was checked in by a member of staff, very polite and pleasant shown me to my room, booked private bathroom so expected ensuit, but yes I had a private bathroom but across the landing, the windows are old style sash windows and I e was broken, you couldn't lock it so the top window wouldn't stay up causing it to let I noise, and when people leaving eating/drinking establishments it gets rather noisy when trying to get to keep, luckily I had my eye mask as the curtains are that thin they let all the light from across the roads eating establishment spot lights on top of the building, the room needs either black out blinds or thicker curtains with a pelmet to stop light coming out the top, but overall the place was clean and comfy
- Linda (10/5): Great stay - Great stay , great location friendly staff
Clean smart rooms an good food
We will be back
- anthony (10/5): - Another good night in Shrewsbury, pity open mic night wasn't on, that's always good.
- Steve (10/5): - This was the second time I had stayed here & I would definitely return. The staff are extremely friendly & helpful & the room had everything I could need. Excellent.
- Annette (10/5): Great 2 night stay - Great place to stay and good location for all the pubs and shops in the town.
Staff were welcoming and very friendly.
Our room was lovely and cosy
- Jane (10/5): - Very pleasant room, all excellent!
- Lynne (10/5): Freinds out - The management and staff could not do enough for us they were lovely.
Great food also
Breakfast was top class and plenty full
- Jacky (10/5): - Excellent stay - staff were lovely
- Ian (8/5): Bull inn Shrewsbury - Bull inn is clean busy at night no parking here use the various paid parking. Most buildings here are Tudor. Great time had for Xmas weekend. If eating out Book evening meals. Shrewsbury lovely place.
- Mike (4/5): - Great location but "private bathroom" was across the landing and heating was off during a sub-zero night- until about 4am and then only for a couple of hours.
- Kerry (8/5): - Property has nice warm feel friendly staff very good meals at night and breakfast was just right
