Guest Reviews
- John (10/5): - Good experience
- Verified traveler (8/5): Shing - Great place
plenty of space
Within walking distance of campus
- Genevieve (10/5): - I will definitely stay here again when visiting the research triangle. Easy walk to Franklin street, lovely older house, and beautiful neighborhood.
- Rob (10/5): - Had a great stay. It was quiet and exactly what we were looking for.
- Jenny (10/5): Conveniently located, clean apartment. - The stay was very pleasant. The apartment is very conveniently located. I flew in without a car and it was very easy to get to the free bus system. Eric was tremendously helpful and communicative. The apartment was clean and stocked. Thank you!
- Elise (6/5): - This is not a bad place to stay, but could use some improvements. Some of the pots, pans, and dishes were not clean. When I reported this to the property owner, he did respond quickly and replaced the pots and pans. The carpet on the stairs and in the bedroom was stained. There was dog and cat hair on the cushions on the dining room chairs. There were numerous directions regarding the blinds, and despite following the directions and being extremely careful, some of the slats still fell down; the owner indicates that there is a fee for damaged blinds, which, due to their very poor condition, is not fair to the client. The bathroom and kitchen (except for the pots, pans, and dishes) were clean. It was nice to be able to fix meals there. The bed was very comfortable. For the price in the area, it was a convenient and reasonably comfortable place to stay.
- Karen (10/5): - We had a really great stay! The images accurately reflect the condition of the apartment. We expected the condo furnishings to be dated and were very pleasantly surprised at how well kept, comfortable, and clean the space was. I slept really well on the mattress, which is rare for me! The location was ideal and was walking distance to our daughter's apartment by UNC. It was really nice to not worry about a car for the weekend. My husband also found some great running trails close by. Eric was very easy to work with and communicated very quickly and clearly with us. We will definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a charming mid seventies condo decorated in late 80s college student. It is roomy and comfortable with a back patio and upper deck. The setting is wooded, and Eric, the host, was very communicative and attentive. The condo is very close to UNC, accessible to bus transportation and has good parking. I don't believe there is a similar property in this location for this price.
For a bit of generational perspective, my 17 year old son thought it was fabulous with lots of character--the best place we stayed on our college tour trip. The cleanliness issues did not bother him until he started cooking in the kitchen. He loved the decor. I would have adored it when I was his age. At 55, I would have liked it to be much cleaner and better lighted. I loved the architecture and location.
The bathroom fixtures were immaculate, but there were cleaning issues with some of the walls and the kitchen. The condo is a bit musty. The host was very responsive to constructive criticism, and I am confident that he will address the cleaning issues. If you have allergies, I recommend contacting the host to see if the property has had a deep cleaning since our stay.
Regarding amenities, the sheets and towels are also vintage. They were clean and perfectly fine for us, but don't expect plush.
My son and I would most definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Location was great. - The host was very nice and extremely attentive with all communication. Listening to the frogs in the pond singing at night was awesome. The actual condo could use some love.
- Sarah F. (10/5): Great location - Located close to Franklin Street. Clean, comfortable. Recommend.
- Mo (10/5): - Eric is the MAN!!! I ran into a difficult personal situation and
- Art (10/5): - We had a lovely 5-night stay at the Chapel Hill InnTown. The condo unit was clean and comfortable for my family of 4 (spouse and 2 adult children). The location is very quiet and convenient, close to the UNC campus and Franklin Street. The balcony off the master bedroom was particularly nice for coffee in the morning! The condo was well-equipped and the in-unit washer and dryer were a definite plus. Mr. Eric Plow was exceptionally helpful and responsive, both in arranging our stay and in checking in with us during our visit.
- Sachin M. (8/5): Quaint condo at the top of a hill - The interior is dated, but the three beds came in handy for a little college reunion. The self check in process is nice and easy, directions to the place are handy. Charging for WiFi is tacky. The place is close to Franklin street, near bars and restaurants
- mmpatter (10/5): - Good location. Good price. Host even helped by picking up the client from a nearby coffee shop.
- Tonya (10/5): - Everything!!! The man renting the place was so nice. Such a wonderful place
- TarHeelFamily (10/5): - Definitely great location - love that it's around corner from LuchaTigre/SallyMack/Flyleaf/Roots. Responsive communications, super clean, pretty quiet for college town apartment complex, great for short/long-term stays. Actually loved 70's vibe decor straight out of a Scorsese film that seemed almost new and really, super clean! (which we do care about). Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It is old, out dated and in need of total inside replacement.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very comfortable with a real “homey” feel. Great location, close to restaurants and shopping.
- Harry (10/5): - Comfortable and. Quiet.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked how quiet and peaceful the surrounding were. And the ease of getting to surrounding facilities
- AlanF (10/5): - Like: Apartment rather than a bedroom
Dislike: Needs outside lighting
- Pamela L. (10/5): Convenient - Excellent location and value. Could use some updating, but overall a nice place to stay.
- Ginger K. (10/5): GreAt location, great communication - Owner very responsive and exceeded special request needs. Great location. Easy to book and coordinate stay. Older furnishings but comfortable staying here.
- George (6/5): - Property was well situated for visit to Chapel Hill or to the campus of the University of North Carolina.
- Scott (10/5): - The price is right and the location is perfect. Very near campus and historic districts. Walking distance to Root Cellar which has great food. Don’t expect fashion forward decor at this price. Lots of room for small family or group - two bedrooms and kitchen. Dish television works fine . Ample parking. Very quiet. Shower has plenty of hot water. Bedding for up to four. Would work fine for long-term stay !
- Tomcat (10/5): - Very cosy. Dated but neat decor. Very clean inside.
- Stephen (10/5): Convenient, Roomy, Affordable, Recommended - Secluded yet convenient to all of Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Inn Town may not be stylish or modern, but it is very well-priced and extremely roomy, with full kitchen, living/dining room, laundry and balcony. I definitely recommend Inn Town and intend to stay there again some time.
- Ann (8/5): Good find in Chapel Hill, NC - We were in the area to visit family. This was a good place to find in the Chapel Hill,N.C.and wish more than a hotel room. The place was fairly clean and comfortable. The owner/manager was around all four days we stayed for any questions or issues we may have had. (Didn’t have any.). Have done some Vacation By Owner in the past and this was very much like VBO. I would recommend if looking for something reasonably priced, located in Chapel Hill and more than a hotel room.
- Nirmala A. (8/5): chapel hill - Quiet location, conveniently located. Good service by Eric Plow.
Needs updating
- Juan (8/5): Excellent - It was very nice and clean we had a full kitchen it was great
- Rupali (4/5): Cockroach 😬 - Two large dogs not on leash were outside out unit ! As if this was not enough when we entered this dated property a big fat cockroach greeted us . Need I say more ???
- Dionysus38 (8/5): Great for families - This is essentially an AirBnB, as towels were not provided, and WIFI may come with a fee. I was upgraded to a 2-bedroom, which comes with a full kitchen and living room. It's ideal for families. It's also just walking distance to several excellent restaurants, like Root Cellar.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great price and responsive management. Bldg itself is
old and very timeworn. Complete remodel needed.
New mattresses a must.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very convenient, clean, roomy. Eric was great communicator. Everything as specified and price very fair.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, comfortable place to stay that was in good location for taking in events at UNC. The owner was a very good communicator before, during and after our stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Location was great in that it was close to where I needed to be.
- cathy (10/5): Great town house - It was a great town house! Very convenient to everything! Everything we needed was included.
- Paul (10/5): - Comfortable & homelike -- an excellent independent bookstore & some hood restaurants three minutes' walk away.
- John (10/5): - Affordable, clean, spacious and in a very convenient location. Great, responsive host as well!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Annoying owner/manager, notes and warnings posted everywhere. Extra charges to be paid in cash directly to owner/manager
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice condo style for chapel hill visit. Ok with pets. Close to town. Good communication.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Dirty, bad smell, uncomfortable, not pleasant, I would not recommend it
- Leigh B. (8/5): Perfect location - Perfect location
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The townhouses are old and the appliances are outdated. There was a cockroach crawling across the ceiling too, so that was disappointing.
- sando (4/5): - This place everything is so old. Dirty carpet and smells.
- Pauline (10/5): Great Place to Stay - The condo is well appointed and the two bedrooms spacious. The decor is not modern but very nice. It is very clean and spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The owner is a great communicator. Send him an e mail and he responds quickly. He is very personable and willing to help you if you need it. He actually drove us downtown. We couldn't ask for better and the price per night was excellent.
- Michael (10/5): Excellent Accommodations At A Great Price - The Chapel Hill InnTown provided a comfortable and restful stop on the long drive to Florida. Easy to find, to park, very convenient lockbox procedure. We had a duplex that could sleep five upstairs, bathrooms on both levels, a kitchen, good WIFI, dish TV. Would stay again and recommend to anyone looking for simple, spacious lodging in Chapel Hill. Wish there were more places like this.
- maritza (8/5): Great location - This townhouse setting has everything needed to have a pleasant stay. It could use some upgrading : removal of carpets, deep cleaning and a new TV. There is no phone connection since it is located at the bottom of a big hill but internet can be purchased for $5 a day. The owner is responsible and knows the area well , also helpful. Ammenities are very close by with a fantastic book store, coffee shop and Chinese restaurant.
- Thomas (10/5): ??? - So I immediately liked it as soon as I walked through the door. Didn't take me 5 more minutes to know I wanted to spend the week here. Eric the property manager was extremely nice and helpful, all in all yes this place deserves a perfect score. Am a very happy!
- masynb2017 (10/5): Diamond in the rough - After many years of visiting Chapel Hill, and even going to school there for 4 years when my parents would come visit me, I was shocked that we had never heard of Chapel Hill InnTown. The prices are beyond reasonable compared to other accommodations in the same area. It is close to downtown, which is very difficult to find in Chapel Hill for a decent price. The unit we stayed in was very spacious and well kept. Was even able to bring my puppy which was also a huge plus. We liked it so much we've already booked our next stay.
- TOM (4/5): Too complicated to check in - Too complicated to check into the hotel. It has no service.
- alison a. (10/5): Great place to stay - Fantastic experience with the property and the owner. Ideal location within walking distance from Franklin Street / the university
PLEASE book directly through Chapel Hill Inn Town. Home Away charged an extortionate price for "fees", and they were impossible to communicate with when I asked for an explanation of why their fees (NOT the owner's) cost half the price of the rental.
- GlobalGypsy00 (8/5): Great value! - The apartment had everything necessary for a comfortable stay. It is not fancy, but neither is the price. Most importantly it was clean, quiet, and conveniently located. I'd definitely stay here again.
- jaye312 (10/5): Carolina beats Dook! - Came down for the last game of the year, Carolina v. Dook. Great stay for what we needed. A place for 2 adults and 3 kids to sleep, wasn't there a lot. Very helpful. Forgot to set up wi-fi (NEED to do this), gentleman came over Saturday and hooked us up. Good job.
- mollyw45 (10/5): Convenient, private, and clean space - My boyfriend and I stayed at the Chapel Hill InnTown for 2 nights. It's within walking distance to UNC/downtown Chapel Hill with many food and drink establishments near-by. The rooms were comfy and clean, and it was perfect for our get-away.
- sd10ac (10/5): Quiet, cozy, convenient, and affordable! - Highly recommend InnTown! Very convenient to UNC and quiet, cozy quarters with beautiful landscaping. We will definitely stay again! Felt like a little home away from home. Particularly liked the easy check-in procedure, the comfy furniture, and roomy accommodations. Beats staying in a hotel any day!
- peggyt832 (10/5): Home away from home - We wanted to spend a month in N.C. to watch spring sports at the colleges. The rental unit was ideally situated close to UNC, Duke, and NC State. My husband joined a ymca just up the rd., we walked the beautiful town path across the street, and also found a great municipal golf course about 7 miles away.
It was just us two seventy somethings, but we could not have asked for better accommodations. We were in the two floor unit and although we did not use the second bedroom, it was so nice to have a large master with walk-in-closet,sliders to a deck, and an adjoining bath.Evenings were a bit chilly, so we made use of the real woodburning fireplace
We found the apt. to be very clean, with all the necessities we needed for cooking and doing laundry. So many little extra were included. Eric was always available., and on one occasion when he wasn't, Lauralee and her husband were very supportive.
- jbm202 (8/5): Great Convenient for Chapel Hill Stay - The owner made my "last minute" reservation process easy and then was able to accommodate an extra night. The first floor living area has a well supplied kitchen and it was a "comfortable" venue for spending the evening (dinner, visit) with my son. It is a very convenient but quiet location and a real treat was the easy access to Bolin Creek Nature Trail. I will stay here again and would recommend to a friend. Pictures and descriptions on website are accurate. Great value and excellent owner service. Owner offers other services like airport connections and rental cars that I did not use but could be useful to other travelers.
- harleyboy88 (8/5): Quiet apartment and good value for money - I stayed there around end Oct 2014 while visiting my son at UNC. The entire booking process and communications with the owner was very smooth; Eric responded very prompted to questions raised. The hotel is located a good 15- 20 minutes walk to UNC but the walk was very pleasant at this time of the year. The furnishings (in Unit 1 where I stayed) were rustic but it served my needs. I like the large space of the kitchen, the landing and the bedroom. Apartment is fully equipped with washing machine and dryer which is great for an extended stay. The Farmer's Market and a huge book store is just 5 mins walk away, not to be missed folks. All in, good value for money.
- Jim785 (10/5): Chapel Hill InnTown - - Quiet residential setting, apparently low-key and safe.
- Trees and greenery, no massive parking lots as is often the case with motels.
- Away from street traffic. Quiet neighbors (many seem to be associated with UNC). No local commercial traffic or noisy garbage pickup at 5 AM.
- At same time, restaurants and retail within walking distance.
- Short, easy walk from parking area to unit. If you're staying a while, you may have lots of luggage to unload.
- Spacious units. Easy for one guest to work in living room while others sleep in bedrooms. Two bathrooms in our unit.
- Full-sized complete kitchen and washer/dryer.
- Ability to adjust temperature of individual rooms' HVAC separately. Ability to get fresh air from open windows, which is actually feasible since neighborhood is quiet and safe.
- Thoughtful housekeeping. No heavy artificial fragrances from highly perfumed cleaning products as often used in hotels. Guest with asthma had no problem.
- On bus line, which runs pretty late and appears safe and well used.
- Easy, quick access to very pleasant, conscientious owner if needed. Not like motels with powerless night clerks (“Sorry there’s a dead cow in your room. I’ll leave a note for the manager and maybe he can do something about it tomorrow.”).
- Flexibility in arrival/departure times
- 710maxz (10/5): Most relaxing and easy-going stays ever - Eric was the best host ever! The level of hospitality was astounding. We had an amazing stay: it was super cozy, relaxing and very comfortable. The apartment is exactly as the photos show. It's at a really convenient location, it is a minute away from restaurants and a block away from a beautiful forest trail. Eric was also very helpful and flexible, and was incredibly kind to work with our specific needs (we traveled with our 3 mo. old baby). We're coming back, undoubtedly. I totally recommend Chapel Hill Inn Town.
- Europe69 (4/5): Not for us but may be okay for someone else. - We really wanted to like this place but it did not work out.
Pros: quiet area, good WiFi; big washing machine and dryer; nice deck to sit on and enjoy the trees, pretty location, parking available. Easy drive to downtown Chapel Hill and UNC. The surfaces in kitchen and bathroom were clean. Bed was fine. Manager was helpful and provided all of the necessary instructions such as driving to the townhouse, finding the key, etc...
Cons: old townhouse with stained rugs, stained upholstery, needs a new coat of paint on the walls. We felt pretty uncomfortable with the general grubbiness of the building and left one day early, forfeiting more than $112 (not fun).
Whether or not you like this place depends on you and your comfort level with old (not antique) furniture, rugs, etc… that are not in good condition. We paid $337 for three nights (this was with the cash discount) and wish we had gone to a hotel instead. If you have many people, need to cook, and don’t mind the issues described – you will probably be fine here. The photos will give you a good idea of what it looks like.
- kkrmac (10/5): Best Location - Chapel Hill Inn Town is our favorite place to stay when we visit our daughter in Chapel Hill. The location is perfect. Walk to Franklin St. and there is a path to Foster's Market and Flyleaf Books. It is not a luxury apartment but it is clean, comfy and has a well equipped kitchen including washer and dryer. Being able to cook, do laundry and walk saves us money. Eric Plow is friendly, welcoming and helpful.
- cyrusr2014 (10/5): Great, convenient and clean - My family -- three kids of various ages -- along with wife -- stayed here over thanksgiving weekend while visiting my bro and his family, who work at UNC. Because he lives near UNC we could literally walk both to UNC campus (we saw a play and a women's soccer game), and his home to burn off some of those thanskgiving pies.
The apartment -- a two-story townhouse style -- was clean, comfortable and affordable. Really enjoyed the washer, dryer, stove, tv and beds. My seven-year old daughter was thrilled to sleep in a bunk-bed for first time.
- 338megang (8/5): Rustic, central, affordable - Chapel Hill for me has always been an intellectual oasis in a rural countryside. A beautiful university a bit in the middle of nowhere. Sure, it's changed a lot since I was growing up here in the 80s-90s but that is the foundation. These condos are like everything I equate with my childhood. Not glamourous, not luxurious, not fancy. Just a quiet almost mountain-like escape with the whole world waiting outside. The decor and linens are dated, and the outside is constantly trying to come inside on your feet (leaves, pine needles). But it's a place to call home away from home. Centrally located - less than $5 cab ride or a free bus from Franklin Street and the rest of the university. Fully stocked with appliances, dishes, linens. There were even left-behind coffee, salt and pepper - communal feel. We have family in town, but can't stay with them, so we just want a casual, affordable place to crash during our visit. If you aren't looking for a luxurious getaway and just need a place to stay and want to be in town, this place is perfect. It's like staying at grandma's house while she's away.
- cwpw (6/5): Reminded us of rustic state campground cabin - My family paid for three nights in November but stayed just one night and forfeited the money we paid for the other two nights. The apt seemed clean but the furniture, bed linen, towels and carpet were very worn. Bath towels were small and very thin. The bed comforter was old and faded. Stairs were steep. Heater had problems. Two of us had significant allergy issues in the apartment. We think future customers would appreciate the extra space and convenient washer/dryer, etc., if they are comfortable with the rustic conditions. We never met the owner but he was cordial in his emails and phone calls. We regret that it didn't work well for us.
- annf183 (8/5): Clean, Comfortable and Convenient - Stayed here for three weeks whilst I visited the University of North Carolina for research. I found the apartment very cosy. It was clean and had a range of amenities including a washer sand a dryer, in addition to the standard stove, refrigerator and microwave oven. Its location was very convenient for me as it was close to two bus stops that presented me with a variety of buses that would take me to UNC Hospitals and back. Unlike hotels where long distance phone calls may be pricey, at Chapel Hill InnTown it was very cheap. I would definitely stay again.
- sp980 (8/5): Much better than a motel - My wife and I stayed for 11 days in a furnished two-bedroom apartment in Chapel Hill InnTown. The apartment had a large living area downstairs, two bedrooms upstairs, a patio, and a small upstairs deck. All appliances (including coffee maker, dishwasher, and washer/dryer) worked well. The apartment was off the street, surrounded by trees, and thus was relatively quiet for such a central location. The place was much more spacious and livable than a motel room and was no more expensive. I would call the accommodations quite comfortable, but not high-end. We had one small issue that was quickly addressed by the owner. I can’t say enough about how quickly and considerately he fixed the problem. I will definitely be staying here the next time I am in town for an extended stay.
- 300JodyM (10/5): Great value for Chapel Hill stay - This is a great value for a family. With teenagers, we don't like to cram into a little motel room anymore, so instead of having to pay for two motel rooms, we rented one condo. It had plenty of space for everyone and it was nice to have the living room to hang out in. It was convenient for us, and very quiet. It's true, as another reviewer mentioned, that the furnishings weren't brand new, but that wasn't an issue for us at all. In fact, we all found the beds very comfortable and got a great night of sleep. And I'm someone who often finds hotel beds uncomfortable, so this was a big deal to me. The bathrooms were clean and completely adequate for us. I definitely plan to stay here again.
- EmeraldE_13 (10/5): Great little place in Chapel Hill NC - I stayed at the inn town condo, and I couldn't have been happier.THe location is great. I like being able to walk to places, and staying here,I could walk to anyplace in Downtown Chapel Hill. You could drive to anyplace downtown in less than 5 minutes if the weather was bad,or you preferred not to walk, but then you will need to find a place to park.
The unit was very clean and comfortable. It is nice having someplace where friends can visit with you while you are in town. Hotels are too cramped. I also enjoyed having the kitchen,so I didn't have to eat out all the time. I was very surprised by how close a couple of eating places were. You can literally walk around the corner, and get something to eat.
This is a great alternative to a hotel, and much more convenient if you want to be in town.
