Guest Reviews
- Theresa (10/5): - Great location to St Mary's Campus.
- Hansen (8/5): -
- Diane (7/5): -
- gemma (6/5): Good thing close to hospital. - Did not have Microscopic TV! No door to toilet area. No more than one person can get ready in the morning!!!!barn door to bathroom was sticking.
- J1639KWbarbaram (8/5): Good place to stay near Mayo Hospital - Very wonderful, helpful staff!
The hotel was quiet and the bed was comfortable
The room was a little stale smelling and the decor did seem old and a bit shabby; however, it was definitely an adequate place to stay for a night while my husband had surgery at Mayo
It was located right across the street from the entrance to Maui, so VERY convenient!!
The price was right!
- Meredith (8/5): -
- debracI78HZ (10/5): Great stay - This was a very clean place to stay. Erica and the other support personnel were kind and helpful!! I will stay here in my future visits to Rochester!!
- Andrea (6/5): -
- Helen (8/5): - Bed was very comfortable Breakfast on 2nd floor and not much there.
- R219GWgaryh (10/5): Welcome to Aspen Inn. - We have stayed in Aspen Inn 5 times now while in Rochester and every stay has been great. Rooms are clean and we'll appointed! Everything you could need is there! Breakfast, laundry, shuttle service !
Prices are very reasonable as well!
- Darel (10/5): - Location was excellent. Close to Mayo. Got a little chilly first night due to boiler being shut off but asked for more cover and got them.
- jonc1757 (6/5): Too hot, rude, no ice - I had surgery at Mayo in Rochester, MN. We stayed at Aspen Hotel since it was across from St Mary's. The room was a consistent 76 degrees. I called the front desk, spoke to a woman and she said there was nothing they could do about it. She was quite rude and I dont get offended easily. They sent a fan up to our room and it barely put out any air. We went to Walmart and bought a fan so we could sleep as we didnt sleep the first night due to the heat in the room. The ice makers were not working in our hotel so we had to go to Aspen Suites next door and get ice from that building. It may seem minor but when you are there to have a procedure, can't fill your ice packs or sleep because it's too hot, thr minor things are a big issue. Disappointed and will not return.
- Guide13265596054 (6/5): Clean room, no WiFi - My room was located on the 4th floor and was clean and comfortable, but I had no Wi-Fi connection. I had Wi-Fi in the lobby but not in my room. I was there again in February and again on the 4th floor and still no Wi-Fi.
Also the front desk people weren’t very friendly. It’s my experience that the first person you come in contact with is the first impression you get. A smile and welcoming would make a big difference in bringing back return customers.

- samnF469PX (10/5): Comfortable place with a friendly staff - We stayed here while a family member was receiving treatment at Mayo. The hotel is conveniently located to multiple Mayo facilities, which was great. They also provide a helpful shuttle service for getting around.
Our room was clean, comfortable, and exactly what we were looking for. There is a nice breakfast and coffee that's provided each day. The staff were helpful and courteous. There's also a number of nice restaurants nearby.
Our stay occurred during a difficult time but we're grateful for their affordable price, convenient location, and helpful staff.
- crystalcY2433VL (8/5): Comfortable - My husband had surgery at Mayo St. Mary’s hospital. All we had to do is walk across the street. Everyone was friendly. Room was clean. Good breakfast. Loved the hot cookies in the evening. Always had coffee and hot water for tea and hot chocolate in lobby.
- Patricia (10/5): Excellent stay - Location convenient to access St Mary’s Hospital , fresh baked cookies. Nothing
- Alicia (5/5): - The price was ok, close to the mayo clinic The smell of the rooms wasn't the great, and the temperature was extremely hot we can barely sleep because of the temperature of the rooms sweating all night, and a lot of noise from the ppl at the roon next to us.
- Allison (7/5): -
- Timothy (8/5): -
- Shannon (8/5): - It was basic breakfast The sheets felt old not crisp
- marybA7240ND (10/5): Thank you for an excellent stay at Aspen Suites Hotel - Rochester, MN - Absolutely impressed with Aspen Suites Hotel. The employees were friendly, helpful with hotel reservations and extras, helpful with information about parking and St. Mary's Hospital. Huge, clean rooms/suites, very quiet. Very comfortable beds and pillows. The only issue was the difficulty controlling the thermostat.
- Marla (8/5): - Location. Breakfast
- heidio187 (8/5): Our stay - It suited what we needed as my husband had a heart attack and we needed a place close to hospital. The two complaints were: we went for breakfast right before opened. There was no milk. Normally wouldn't be an issue except there is only cereol and toast type options and. A few sweets so milk is kind of important in order to enjoy the breakfast. The second was that the one door doesn't get unlocked until 930 yet has no posting stating such but worker seemed to think should have known that. Hotel was clean and workers for most part were kind. Was quiet so we were able to rest when we were able while husband was resting.

- Karen (8/5): -
- Heather (9/5): - The staff were very nice and friendly. It was a nice, clean, and acomfortable room. I would stay there again.
- Enrique (5/5): -
- Maes-bilse (10/5): -
- Weiss (7/5): Ok but too bright - It was very close to St Mary's Hospital (right across the street). The room I had was on the second floor, a king deluxe handicap room. The window faced the interior hallway which was brightly lit all night long. The blackout curtains in the room did not prevent the hallway light from streaming in from all sides of the window. I could not fall asleep because the room was too bright. I did mention this to the attendant and he offered to switch my room. I declined because I was only staying one more night and didn't feel like packing up my stuff and moving rooms. I offered suggestions on how they could solve this issue. Hotels in Europe have motion sensors in their hallways so the hallways are dark at night and only turn on when motion is detected. Not sure why American hotels have not moved in this direction. I also suggested adding shades to the windows that cover better. The attendant said he would mention my suggestions to the manager. If I stay here again I will be sure that my room is not on the second floor. I am also going to pack a sleep mask in the future just in case.
- Kross8763 (10/5): -
- Donna (10/5): - Friendly staff. Nice rooms. Several good restaurants nearby. Convenient access to the hospital.
- Zarrah Mae (4/5): - Better bfast selection? Also room lights (main lighg center of the room) needs to be changed its very dangerous. Change all lights to be honest and upgrade electronics
- Marilyn (9/5): -
- ionm584 (10/5): Great - Great experience thanks appreciate your Business and support.
Great customer service providers.
Great place. Great
- Daniel (9/5): Staff was efficient and pleasant. - It was a well stocked, buffet style, complimentary breakfast. It was served in a pleasant, comfortable setting. The serving and table areas were clean and well kept.
- Jayne (6/5): - Rooms were dirty vents, spiders on ceiling. Bath mat that did not stay down. No water pressure in shower. Limited breakfast.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Mayo Clinic is across the street.
- Jill (10/5): - Breakfast alsp provided
- Cahoe (7/5): - Location and price Cheap breakfast choices
Unfriendly male night clerk
- Dave (8/5): - Clean room | Staff was helpful and friendly
- Linda (10/5): - The room was clean and had everything we needed. Staff was very nice and helpful.
- Julie (6/5): Good value - Clean. Fairly comfortable bed. I had a problem with the faucet in the shower, but it was resolved quickly. I really hate that they only had styrofoam cups, bowls and plates available for breakfast.
- Lois (10/5): - It is right across from the hospital.
- Kelly (10/5): Walkable to Mayo Clinic - This hotel was a great choice for me since I was able to walk to the Mayo Clinic. The construction by the clinic makes it almost impossible to park. I lost my car fob and the front desk clerk found it for me and called to tell me. He went above and beyond.
- Samuel (8/5): - Street construction causing parking issues.
- Melissa (4/5): Disappointing/Pictures Not Accurate - When I booked our room I didn’t realize there was an Aspen Select and an Aspen Suites and both are shown in the hotel main picture on this site. The hotel was not clean, the furniture and overall hotel is worn and starting to run down. The continental
Breakfast was a few donuts some bread and some muffins, no hot food at all. When we arrived there was no one at the front desk for over 15 minutes for check in, the parking lot is pretty small and a tight fit. Front desk staff was not attentive or unfriendly. The chain lock in the room was broken off. The location was good as we walked across the street to St, Mary’s- Mayo Clinic and that was the only thing good about this hotel. I will shuttle to a different location than ever choose to stay here again.
- Cindy (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful. Very clean.
- Lavista (10/5): -
- Dianna (10/5): Amazing warm and friendly stay - Our family was at Rochester for two weeks for my kiddos heart surgery. As you can imagine, it was a stressful time. The staff at Aspen select and Aspen suites were incredibly helpful and friendly. Their smiles and warm personalities made us stay wonderful. I will definitely be staying there again on our follow up visits. They made it at home away from home. The rooms were always clean, tidy, and comfortable. The convenience of being right across from the hospital was so helpful! And it had plenty of restaurants within five minutes of walking. We so appreciate you all.
- Dennis (10/5): Excellent - It my be a little picky but the sink had a small crack in it that did not affect the use of the sink but could in the future. But, without a doubt It was a very good stay. The room felt inviting and clean! This was the cleanest hotel I have stayed in that I can remember. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely will be my go to when staying in Rochester.
- Merlin (10/5): - No windows on this stay. Convenient location. Next door to a great restaurant.
- Renee (2/5): - One room had a sofa held together with duct tape. Water was brown coming out of faucet. Mold on ceiling of showers in all three rooms.
- Minh (8/5): - This property is close to my destination and I like that. Parking is very tight and dark, it makes a person feels uncomfortable.
- Mark (8/5): - Construction
- Nora (6/5): Mostly ok, but there was that one thing... - My stay was mostly ok. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is older and it does show, but it is maintained pretty well. The thing with this hotel is that something always goes wrong in a way that ruins the experience. Last time, the front desk person was very abrasive and unwilling to help. This time, the water the room was turned off at around 8:30 am and was still off like 10 minutes later when I left. I had no idea that would happen. I mean, why would you expect something like that? The housekeeping staff that I asked about it was just like, yeah the water was turned off, like it is a routine thing. I happened to be up early and mostly on my way out, but on an average day, there is every chance I would have been in the shower at that time. Instead I had just used the bathroom and couldn't wash my hands, which was maybe even worse. And really wanted to brush my teeth after breakfast but that wasn't an option. So if you stay here, definitely ask about the water situation when you check in!
- Jazmine (10/5): - Everything was great
- Glenda (10/5): - great receptionist !
- Allison (10/5): -
- Jamielynn2611 (2/5): Don’t waste your money - Unfortunately, my experience at Aspen Select was disappointing. The property feels like an old outdoor motel that has simply been enclosed. The carpets are heavily worn and give off a musty smell, and I noticed mold on sections of the walls. The overall cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, with the rooms and common areas looking dated and not well maintained. While the location is convenient for Mayo visitors, the hotel itself does not live up to expectations. For the price, there are much cleaner and more comfortable options nearby.
- Tanya (8/5): - Very affordable
The property seems a bit run down and breakfast was not great.
The staff was really nice and helpful.
The rooms were well maintained.
- Robert (6/5): - The bed was uncomfortable.
- Teresa (4/5): - Property is very dated.
- Steven (10/5): - ..
- Denise (10/5): - Beds were very comfortable. Loved the terrace.
- Kevin (8/5): - Close to Mayo Clinic
- Richard (6/5): Breakfast lacking - The "Breakfast" if you coud call it that wasn't wonderful
Toast and cold cereal, Yougert
- Bonam (2/5): Close to where needed to go, eat at Canadian Honker, all good food..........Hotel...Fair to less - Close to Hospital. Parking. Canadian Honker Staff was some of the rudest people we have encountered. Met 4 different staff. Asked for 2 beds, just a NO, didn't look just NO. Room sofa bed, was torn/ripped all across the from seated area. But we had to use because needed that as a place to sit/sleep. Before checkout card was deactivated before we left she said that is not our issue, luckily I was still in room. But just having surgery getting up out of bed was a huge problem for me each time, they left to get supper. When we checked out they said they must have the key......we had on , they said then we need to GET the other. I let mine in the room. GET IT ...well can't cause I can't get in. just RUDE !!!
- Chakriya (8/5): -
- Tara (10/5): - It was in a great location. Staff was wondering and accomodating.
- Lois (8/5): Convenient to the medical sevices - Nice hotel right across from the historic section of the Mayo Clinic
The window looking into the hall is odd and lets the bright lights of the hall light in even with blackout curtains. Very comfortable and quiet room
- Johnson (8/5): - Didn’t eat breakfast had a appointment at the hospital
- Rebecca (6/5): Not a great hotel. - Front desk staff were not very friendly, not rude or anything, just not friendly. Cleaning gentleman was very nice! Continental breakfast was terrible: waxy donuts and no water available..had to leave the hotel space to get water. Room was too warm but it was clean. The towels were clean but stained.
- David (4/5): - The only positive is that the front desk clerk was warm and welcoming. The room had a dank smell, no windows to the outside, and too warm because the thermostat does not control the AC.
- Kristina (6/5): - The staff were so nice. I was visiting for a cancer surgery.
- Jason (8/5): - This hotel was an interesting find. The room was nice and had the basic amenities, but since it didn't have an outside window, it had big windows to the hallway, which allowed sunlight to come through from the hallway windows. Breakfast was OK but didn't have the waffle options that many places have. Parking is tight. If you have a large vehicle, you better be a good driver.
- Charnell (10/5): - My friend and I stayed here when I was having surgery. Obviously the hospital is across the street which made it convenient and an obvious choice. Staff were friendly and helpful. My only complaint regarding the room is that it was very muggy which made the bedding feel damp and we could really smell the laundry detergent because of it, which was not a deal breaker by any means. While I was in the hospital for surgery, my friend strolled around the area. He said that there was a lot of nice places to eat and shop within walking distance. The parking situation wasn't that great. Both lots are small and the parking spaces are super tight, but again, other than driving me to the front entrance of the hospital when I had surgery (it was raining pretty hard), my car was just parked. I would book it again if I needed to place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice, comfortable stay - The staff were all welcoming and helpful. The rooms and beds were comfortable and quiet. The hotel could be updated, but everything was tidy.
Just a few small things could be improved: adding a water fountain or filtered water access. The water dispenser was empty. The free breakfast had good shelf stable and fridge stable items, but the donuts were not the freshest. Could skip those items that lose freshness quickly.
- Kelly (10/5): - Parking was tight. Other than that Great stay.
- Amber (2/5): - I wouldn’t stay here. It’s dated, dark and no water bottles. There is not much in this part of town and if you need a refresh during a medical stay, this isn’t the place.
- C3161UOpatriciaw (6/5): If you need cool air, don't book. AC SUCKS.NO ROOM TEMPERATURE CONTROL - AC not in individual rooms. On a vent run by hotel. You CANNOT control temperature like they say you can. Thing on wall is a glorified thermometer to tell you room temperature. Room was.warm and humid. Never dropped down past 75 the whole 2 days we were there. With health problems I was so uncomfortable and sweat all night. Never will book there again. Lesson learned.
- Carissa (8/5): - The hotel was quiet and the room was clean with all standard amenities. The bed was comfortable and the rooms were affordable. The only drawback is very limited space to pull into the hotel drop off and almost no parking available.
- Regina (10/5): Patient at Mayo Clinic - Clean rooms and courteous staff.
- Deborah (6/5): - People talking in the corridor at 1am in the morning until 2am. very noisy.
- Candace (8/5): Convenient to Mayo Clinic - Nice parking and just across the street from the St Mary's Hospital, part of the Mayo Health System. Great restaurant next door.
Breakfast at hotel was basic wothout low carb food items.
- Lance (10/5): - Close to st marys
- THOMAS (8/5): - Lots of construction around property! Hard to walk much less drive. Can’t blame hotel for that. Place was different, rooms had glass walls that faced hallways. With curtain drawn no problem. Good restaurant right next door.
With low price we paid pretty satisfied.
- Marina (10/5): - Great location. Huge room. Very comfortable.
- Daniel (8/5): - Nice place and convenient to hospital
- Kimberly (8/5): - Clean, staff were nice very helpful.
- Jesus (6/5): - I didn’t have a good experience,Everything looked old
- Hicham (10/5): - Highly recommended
- Shanasy (6/5): - Room was very nice, BUT there were no windows to the outside - for that reason we would not stay again. The only windows were to the outside hall, so if you want any privacy, you'd have to keep the drapes closed at all times - which makes it very dreary. It was very convenient walking to the hospital though - but not worth having no windows.
- Jeffrey (4/5): - Well my grandparents stayed her when it was the Fiksdal Hotel and was established in 1965. The hotel was extensively renovated and remodeled in 2015. The hotel looks close to the same with bad newly decorated rooms. The staff is really shady looking with their friends hanging out in lobby sometimes. The only plus was cookies and coffee in very worn lobby. Bathrooms were clean but already falling apart. I paid extra money for city view. Don’t waste your money. You get what you paid for. I have pictures of not collecting garbage, 4 lights in bathroom out of the 4 lights one bulb out and others different colors, grout falling out of loose corner shelf in shower, poor water flow in shower, very dark room, had to lift lid of toilet to replace handle because kept sliding out and for some reason they used a drywall screw in toilet tank. And cops called because of fighting in hall and yelling at 12:05am.
- Gary (4/5): - Hotel old, not clean, air conditioning in room very NOISY, no windows in room so felt like a cave. And photos of room were taken when hotel was new
- Jeffrey R. (2/5): - It was disgusting! Dark, damp, crowded and disgusting! Humidity was horrid. We checked in, went to our room and checked OUT! My wife got bites on her feet! I REFUSE to pay for that place!
- Christine (10/5): - Staff is excellent, location is convenient, rooms are comfortable and clean.
- Susan (8/5): - Close to the Hospital.
Room did not have a window looking outside, window looked out into the hallway with another window in the hallway to outside.
- jjs713 (4/5): You get what you paid for - Ok we moved into the Aspen Select hotel for a week because the pictures on their site looked good. The hotel was called Fiksdal Hotel built 1965. Well the hotel had not changed since then and not for the good. We stayed here because it was right across from the Frances tower part of Mayo Clinic that my father was emergency medical evacuation from Marquette to here for a rare case. They say the rooms were newly renovated in 2015, but it’s 2025 now and the rooms are ruff. We have rented two rooms. Safety chains are broke, our city view which I paid more for was on tiny window in corner and not city view. Light in bathroom had three different light bulbs and one not working. They don’t always empty garbage and never changed sheets in a week. One time I only needed two towels, coffee, cups, new floor mat, and garbage bump. I got two towels that was it. Every time I flush the toilet I had to take top off and rest the system because it kept slipping off. Corner shelve in shower loose and old grout falling in tub. Shower water mostly dribbles out. It’s a very dreary room. Buyer be aware.
After I told front desk of what was not done in rooms from cleaning, all they said is she can’t speak English.
- Paul (8/5): - Very clean and quiet
