• Marilou (10/5): - Even though the room was in the small side it is extremely clean. Like very clean. Some of the towels were a little crusty perhaps needs some softeners. But bedding smelled fresh and clean all the time. We love that it is steps from everything major i.e. Plaza Major; Puerto del Sol; Gran Via; Mercado de San Miguel. Easy access to Metro and Renfe trains. Lots of restaurants all over the place. A Carrefour Express in the Square across from the hotel. Of course lots of American fast foods nearby. Will definitely stay here again. Oh and love the mini glass enclosed balcony in our room.

Consiglio: se dovete pagare in struttura chiedete come fare già al check-in perché poi c’è il rischio che non troviate nessuno all’accoglienza. Per il resto è un ostello discreto, ma molto comodo per raggiungere le vie e le piazze principali del centro a piedi. È ben collegato con i bus e la metro.

• Cristina (2/5): Estafadores - Llegamos el viernes pasado a última hora, éramos dos parejas y habíamos reservado dos habitaciones dobles con baño. Cuando llegamos solo tenían anotada una de las reservas, pero tras darles el identificador de la reserva perdida la localizaron y admitieron que había habido un error. El hostal estaba lleno y únicamente nos pudieron ofrecer una habitación individual SIN BAÑO, indicándonos que nos harían un descuento por los inconvenientes. Como entendí que todos cometemos errores y vi que la persona que nos estaba atendiendo estaba pasando un mal rato, sin ser quizás responsable del error, acepté esta habitación, a pesar de ser la primera vez en mi vida que me quedo en una habitación SIN BAÑO. A parte de no poder ir al baño en toda la noche, ya que no me siento cómoda usando un baño compartido y, mucho menos, saliendo al pasillo de madrugada, la habitación que se nos asignó estaba en la recepción, con lo cual, desde las 7 de la mañana no pudimos dormir debido al timbre que sonó algunas veces, la gente haciendo checkout o consultando sus dudas, ya que se oía absolutamente todo. Finalmente, el descuento que nos hicieron “por los inconvenientes“ fue de 20 euros: no pudimos deshacer maleta la primera noche ni ir al baño en toda la noche y tuvimos que dormir dos personas en un cama de 120 cm. Es decir, nos cobraron 75 euros por una habitación individual sin baño, mientras en su página el precio de una habitación individual con baño es de 60 euros.

For the price I don’t think it can be beaten. Plus the honesty of the staff was appreciated as my Kindle was found down the side of my bed and returned to me when I collected my luggage for which I am very grateful 💕

Værelset var udmærket, selvom det ikke var stort, men madrassen var hård og uden affjedring, ikke specielt komfortabelt efter de første tre nætter. Enten var der meget lydt, eller også havde naboen lydstyrken på tv'et skruet meget højt op den ene aften. Dejligt med lille balkon og udsigt over pladsen. Indtjekning kl. 0.40 foregik uden problemer overhovedet :-)

Dommage il y avait deux lumières HS L’horreur (et l’hôtel n’y est bien sûr pour rien) c’est le tarif prohibitif du parking de la Plaza Mayor ! A éviter absolument d’y laisser la voiture...

• Verified traveler (6/5): No-frills, basic room in great location - The location of this hotel is terrific, right at the hub of central Madrid, a half-block from the Plaza Mayor, a huge square courtyard that seems to be the center of local life, full of restaurants, etc. Otherwise, the hostal, which occupies the third floor of a tall building, is very small, plain, simple, no-frills room, not lovely but not terrible, more like a dorm room that is adequate but not attractive in any way. It does have a lovely view over Plaza Santa Cruz. The bed had only a top sheet, no cover. I only spent one night there, so it was fine, but I would choose somewhere else nearby and pay a bit more if I were staying several days or longer.
• ChrisDarwen (10/5): Great place to stay - Stayed here for 1 week from the 15/05/2019 and thought it was a great place to stay.I usually stay at a different hostal when iam in Madrid but took a chance on this one as the other had a very large price increase on what i had paid on previous visits.I stayed in a single room (number 5 or 305 i think) and it was very comfortable with the addition of a small balcony.I loved the keycard system which allowed to access the building,the hostal and the room rather than pressing a buzzer and waiting for somebody to let you into the building and into the hostal.The location is fantastic although for me i had to walk to the Opera metro station (where my previous lodgings are!!) every evening to get to Las Ventas due to works on the line from Sol to my destination.The hostal i usually use is much higher up the ratings on Trip Advisor but in my opinion the Hostal Cruz Sol was much superior and God willing i hope to stay at this wonderful little place again next year.It looks like i have found a new home in Madrid.Thankyou for a very enjoyable stay.

• Ello51 (8/5): Simple and clean hotel very well located in the heart of Madrid. - We found this hotel to be very quiet and it was in a convenient location steps from the SOL metro. There is a nice cafe right in front where we ate breakfast and had a night cap on occasion. We arrived and departed at off hours and only had brief interactions with the staff members but they were very helpful when we arrived prior to check-in time. They stored our bags and delivered them to our room. They allowed us to access our room around noon which was great after an overnight transatlantic flight. I would definitely stay at this hostal again.

Todo fue tal cual la descripción inicial a partir de la cual me decidí a reservar allí. Por último: la ubicación ....perfecta! A 2 pasos de la plaza mayor....no se puede pedir más. Inconvenientes: se escuchan tuberías de otras habitaciones y aunque tiene un pequeño refrigerador es imposible darle uso ya que para que la electricidad se active hay que insertar la llave.
• Marianne6616 (8/5): Great location in the heart of the city - I booked two rooms for my family for the last night of our trip to Spain. I chose Hostal Cruz Sol because I wanted something close to both Plaza Mayor and Mercado San Miguel - two of my favorite places in the city. When we arrived we were a bit worried because it was Oct 12 - Dia de la Hispanidad - and the city was swarming with people enjoying the holiday. Would we be able to sleep through the night with all this partying? Turns out we were just fine - the windows blocked out most of the noise. Our rooms were small but efficient and just what we needed - I think the shower offered more hot water and water pressure than any other place we stayed (and this is on the third floor of the building!). We had no problem hailing a taxi to the airport the next morning - they drive right by the hostel at all hours.

Perfect for tourists who are only in the room to sleep and don't need luxury. Rooms are not big but it is very clean and you have your own small bathroom.
• Feodor_Dostoevsky (10/5): Very very central - After our Camino, my daughter and I stayed here for 4 days. I have stayed here before in earlier years. Its main attraction is that it is so central, near Puerta de Sol and Plaza Mayor. We could walk everywhere from here: The Prado; Reina Sofia, Palacio Real; other museums. We did not need to use the metro except to get back and forth to the airport. We did a walking tour starting in Puerta del Sol, and went to a Flamenco performance close-by. The hostal is on the third floor of the building, but there is an elevator if one wishes. I would stay here again, but do not expect and services or friendly chit-chat with the reception. This is strictly a place to park your things, explore a wonderful city and have a good night's sleep. The rooms are clean and spacious; the beds are good and firm; the street noise dies down fairly early; it is a great place but is not charming or particularly friendly. The prices are very reasonable for the location (40€/single room/night). I would definitely stay there again.

• tonyb783 (8/5): City Centre Hostel - I missed my flight and knocked on the door after 2300 and was given a room for the night. Its more like a small hotel rather than a hostel. I got a large bed with towels ,toliet and showers, and a side room overlooking a small passage. Cruz Sol is less than 20 seconds from Plaza Mayor and 2 minutes from Sol. There is a small plaza at the front with 2 restaurants. You have Sol and Opera Metro within walking distance. This will be my first choice when visiting Madrid
• Cbo12345 (6/5): Mixed Reviews - Pros: -Sunny room with great view -Excellent Location (very central, 1 minute walk from Plaza Mayor and 5 minutes from Puerta del Sol) -Clean Cons: -Noisy -Room was bright at night -Safe costs 1Euro I requested a room on the main plaza and we got a lovely room with lots of sunshine and two windows - one looking on the plaza and the other on the side street. The room was pleasant, clean, and comfortable. The only reason I wouldn't necessarily recommend this hostel to other people is because I found it difficult to sleep at night. I wouldn't recommend it to light sleepers - the room was noisy (we could hear other guests in the hallway because the walls were thin. Also, the reception was just outside of our door so we could hear the doorbell ringing several times through the night) and bright (there were no blackout curtains and they lit up their sign at night, so lots of light came in through the windows while we were trying to sleep). If you are NOT a light sleeper, this is a nice place (excellent central location!!) to stay at a good value. My last comment is that I think it was kind of tacky that they charged 1 Euro for use of the safe in the room!

Especially shopping mall around SOL. Staff speak english well and willing to help. I stay for 2 nights for holiday, my room without breakfast. Worst for the price. I definitely recommend.
• 745bobr (10/5): Great Stay - This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this facility. It is clean and comes with fast Wi-Fi, cold AC, cable TV and is wonderfully located. We stayed in 2009 and 2010 and stayed a few nights this trip. And the price is incredible. My family loves it.

• ihtak43 (10/5): Very nice! - I had a room overlooking the Plaza de Santa Cruz. The room had two balconies and a bathroom. I paid around €40 for a single. The WIFI was not amazing and someone in the nearby room had their TV on quite loudly one evening. But the aircon worked well and the room was cleaned daily. Very friendly staff some of whom spoke English. I would definitely stay there again.

About a 5 minute walk from the metro, shopping plazas and restaurants! Includes wifi and personal bathrooms inside room as well. Located on the third floor - stairs and elevator accesible. Very safe as well. Location is in the center of everything and noise was not an issue! I would rate this a 4.5 out of 5!

I paid 30 euros for a room with a view over a square with my own toilet and shower. The summer price is 35 euros. There are also economy rooms for more than one The room is cleaned daily with towels provided.There is also a TV.
