Guest Reviews
- tamir621 (6/5): Ask for a room towards the back! - Lovely property in a good location, breakfast was good, staff were kind. The landscaping is fantastic. It's very clean
We were in cabana no 1, and it was so loud that we could not sleep. Hitcwatee is hit ir miss. Highway noise, people screaming at all hours, and horns, motorcycles.
- 538annikan (10/5): I will definitely come back here - We had a great stay at Escape Caribeño. It was the last stop on our 3-Week Tour through Costa Rica and I think it was the best Hotel we stayed at. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was really good. It is near to many Restaurants and Shops and also has a Laundromat right next to it. Hotel staff was always super friendly and helpful. It was visible to me how frequently they swept the tiles outside and made sure there were no leftover leaves or anything on it. One thing I personally really appreciate was how many plants and different trees etc. were planted on the grounds. It’s beautiful to look at and good for Wildlife. We saw 2 sloths in the trees near the Hotel Reception which was my personal highlight. I really look forward to coming back here. I can only recommend this place.
- NLR (8/5): Good choice in a lovely town - Visited as part of a group . A lovely hotel well situated and with a brilliant swimming pool in a fabulous garden. The rooms are okay, fairly basic but comfortable but the shower needs a new nozzle and the towels were so thin. And disappointed there wasn’t even a kettle in the room
- B4862YNmaryanns (10/5): A beautiful spot for anyone -paradise - Our family stayed here for 4 days (my husband, our 2 yr old and 6yr old and my mom in her 80's). It was like living a dream being here. The staff are so kind and helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and we were grateful for the air-conditioning,tv and refrigerator. These are the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on in Costa Rica. The gardens are so beautiful and amazing and we saw so many birds and animals all at the hotel (agouti, sloth and baby, iguana, little lizards everywhere). We loved all our meals at the restaurant. The pool is lovely and we spent some part of every day in it and there's a private beach access too. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone it's lovely. I have been here 3 different times in the past but this is the best hotel I have stayed at yet. Pura vida
- deborahsE4892MU (10/5): A Delightful Caribbean Hideaway - Escape Carribeno
Escape Caribeno is a delightfulsurprise, full of lush gardens, a lovely swimming pool, and spacious rooms. It’s mere steps away from the beach and ten minutes walking distance from the lively town of Puerto Viejo. We loved our stay there. The reception team was marvelous and answered all our questions.
- Steve154913 (10/5): Fantastic - Really nice place with comfortable large rooms, beautifully manicured grounds, excellent pool and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities on the grounds. We had a sloth with baby living just outside our unit and an Agoudi that enjoyed making the morning rounds. The staff were very friendly and the entire experience first rate.
- Minna (10/5): - Escape Caribeño is such a beautiful place! We saw sloths, a monkey and frogs on their property. Breakfast was tasty and the staff super helpful. Room was clean and the shower worked well. Would definitely stay again!
- Simon (10/5): - This is a quaint hotel with friendly front desk and restaurant staff. It is walking distance from the center of town where there are lots of restaurants and entertainment. One of the features of the hotel is the entrance to the beach; small; semi private section.
- Jonathan (10/5): WOW - Me and my wife stayed for a couple nights this week and wow what an amazing experience. From check in to renting bikes from the front desk, the hotel restaurant, and getting advice and information from the front desk, everything was absolutely amazing. They were extremely accommodating and helpful, it being my first time in the country, I could not have asked for anything more. Also the beach view room was stunning. We also saw monkeys and sloths from our hammock on our front porch. Whenever I’m able to come back I could not even consider staying anywhere else!
- mariajH4369LG (2/5): UNPROFESSIONAL-CREEPY, LACK OF ANY COMFORT- DO NOT STAY!!! - Please DO NOT GO to this hotel! -1. LACK of any modern comfort 2. UNPROFESSIONAL and CREEPY MANAGMENT. From the outside it is very charming, but when you walk in it looks like an unrefurbished cabin from the 1950's. There are 50's style Jalousie mini angled windows that don't seal and allows all the main street noises in, including bugs, and also 5 am bird noises, so sensitive sleepers beware! No Hospitality tray/coffee machine. And what he called a "othopedic" mattress that moves easily across the wooden frame when simply bumped, so my hips that sank to the bottom wooden frame. MOST IMPORTANTLY CREEPY!!! I felt his intentions were sincere in trying to "help" me but he ENTERED MY ROOM when I WASN'T THERE, took a picture of my personal items on the table and sent it to me?? (EMOJI SHOCKED!!) (Went for a walk and left my car keys)I was like RUNNING OUT OF THIS PLACE and then refused to refund my other days saying I had to go through my booker- which of course, they wouldn't do, but he could of EASILY refunded me and refused upon a nice letter. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A SINGLE GIRL---DO NOOOOOTTTT GO HERE!!!
- Gilbert (10/5): - I needed a room last minute and they were very accommodating. Staff was great and breakfast was perfect. I will return
- Oscar (10/5): Excelente.
- Anthony (10/5): - Great place, clean and nice rooms
- 471PeterK (8/5): Top stay in Puerto Viiejo despite trafic noise - The Hotel has two parts. The reception and rows of bungalows are on the right side of the road when coming from Puerto Viejo center. The road is VERY noisy and hence my recommendation is to ask for a bungalow beyond the reception and close to the pool. We stayed in a "sea view bungalow" on the opposite side of the road. You do not sea, but hear the sea as the bungalows are separated from the sea by a 50m stretch of mature trees and bushes. Large clean rooms, veranda with hammock with view on the garden, lawns and trees. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and monkeys (howler and spider) provide entertainment. One great advantage here is the footpath 10m from the sea that gets you into town (10min), the excellent bakery (5min) or to the cockles beach (20 min). So much nicer than walking beside the heavy traffic on the road. The downside of the "sea view bungalow" is the road and its traffic noise just 20m away.
- Michael (10/5): - Had a great stay at Hotel Escape Caribeno. Was a quick trip to Panama and only stayed one night but will go back for sure. Beautiful property.
- Simon (8/5): - The grounds are immaculate and the staff aimed to please. The location is great for walking to the middle of town or a short tuk tuk drive for about $3 dollars. Breakfast although not included in the price was worth the additional fee and was Delicious.
- Wes (8/5): - Good option for a family to stay in town in Puerto Viejo. Right out front there’s a great walking trail through the jungle to Playa Cocles. We saw sloths almost every time we took a walk.
- 628m_nicam (8/5): Comfort and nice area - Checked in as part of your group for a two night stay. Good space, tv, ac, safe and decent bathroom. Pool , bar and restaurant on premises.
Staff is friendly. Rooms are clean.
Location is good. Approximately seven minute walk. There are a lot of stores, cafes and restaurants.
- Jimmi (10/5): Beautiful - My coworker and I stayed at this hotel for the weekend and we really liked it. The garden is beautiful and there are a lot of different small animals.
Armadillos, crabs, hummingbirds, Watusa and colourfull frogs.
A small walk to the "center" of Viejo.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - One night stay only
- Colleen (8/5): Nice hotel - Receptionist was very kind and helpful, good location, nice well maintained property, AC and hot water was never a problem, overall was satisfied with our stay. Cons was that the taxi that the hotel called was a pirate taxi and there was a lizard or some kind of animal in our room that would make chirping noises throughout the night waking us up.
- Claudia (4/5): - Not what I expected
- Jacqueline (10/5): - The garden are beautifully well kept. The rooms are spacious and you listen the ocean from some of them. Love it 😍
- Robert (10/5): - This property was excellent. It was just at the end of the strip of restaurants and shops. Quiet, but quick walk to anything in PuertoViejo. The place was clean and had great access to beach. The only problem was the keys provided did not work the gates consistently. Occasionally we had to try a couple gates before finding one the keys worked in. Otherwise this was just what we were looking for.
- Robert (10/5): - Great to have direct access to beach and the restaurants, shops, and other beaches were just a few minutes walk. The keys and locks on the gates were not consistently operational. Security and comfort in the room was excellent.
- DoBeAdventure (10/5): Delightful stay - A quaint place with lovely walkways and a well maintained, refreshing pool. A short walk to the downtown area. The hotel has units on the other side of the street also, which is oceanfront. The cabins are clean, staff was friendly. Masks are worn by all staff, whi h was our experience in all our CR
- Didier (6/5): - Small bedroom and full bed for 2 and no hot water at all during our stay even after you let them know.
- Tamara (10/5): - This hotel was excellent and the staff were wonderful and very helpful. Juan Jose helped me book two tours that were fantastic.
- C2511IAleahm (6/5): Beautiful Grounds, Basic Rooms - This Hotel has the most STUNNING gardens and grounds! Each “bungalow” has a patio with a hammock to better enjoy the lush, tropical greenery.
There is a gorgeous pool area and a restaurant with truly delicious food!
The rooms themselves are very basic, the bed was quite hard and there was no hot water the first night we stayed. It came back temporarily the next morning but it still wasn’t fantastic.
- Jennifer (10/5): - The location, food, and service was incredible. My only dislike would be that the grounds get very slippery when wet. The main host at the reception area, Senor Juan Jose was excellent in making sure we were comfortable and responding to any needs we had. This is where you want to be for quiet time after long fun days.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Would recommend. How ever there is issue with advertising linked to online booking about breakfast included . Clear that issue when you arrive. But breakfast was very good.
- Manuela (8/5): One night - Very clean and lovely place however impossible to sleep due to the noise of the water system/ noise of animals
- Heylittleprincess10 (10/5): Super nice - The hotel, garden and pool are super nice and super clean. The breakfast is also really good. My room wasn’t so clean at first but after I told them they cleaned it again and everything was perfectly fine. The owner of the hotel is super helpful and very welcoming. You should defined stay here! Also the Location is amazing you are very close to the center and also very close to the beach but still have privacy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely place within walking distance of Puerto Viejo, Restaurants, Beaches, Shopping etc. The Cottage house was very clean and the grounds are very well manicured. The property has a very nice pool in the back with a fine restaurant. Parking.
Check in and out was perfect. Highly recommend staying here while puerto Viejo.
- taliajac (10/5): WOW!!!! - This hotel is pure Blessing! So much peace and harmony. The crew is incredible and very kind, the land is very very taken care of and it just feels like a total PARADISE!
We Enjoyed Every part of it!
Experienced it also as a business holiday, also woth a friend and also as a romantic vacation with my beloved. Highly recommended!
We've been searching for a long time the perfect place around the area and didn't find something with so much Value for this price!
Thank you all so much!
Will be back (:
- ninad978 (8/5): A great choice! - A great choice. As others have noted you just can’t beat the location of this place..a very easy walk to town/ several restaurants but out of the center of town. The room we had was cute, comfortable and spacious, and everything was in good working order. Large covered porch with a hammock was great. (All units have this.) This hotel occupies two sides of the main road in town. Units on the ocean side are more private with bigger porches...worth the extra money if you can afford it. They really don’t have an ocean view because the jungle has been left in its natural state which we thought was great. You can hear the waves at night which is lovely. Many birds right on the property. Service was fine and they did a small load of laundry for us for $5. The breakfast (not included) was okay but we preferred the wonderful bakery just a two minute walk up the street.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We arrived late around 10 pm. Had reserved a room for 3 adults. Office was closed and no one around. Security guard showed up about 15 min later and led us to a room with only one double bed. No good. Reluctantly he showed us the only other room available that had 2 double beds. Room was filthy. TV was only a 20" monitor. We checked in and began noticing a strong urine smell coming from the bathroom which grew much worse when we took a shower. The smell became overpowering and we began gagging with nausea. It took 20 mins to find the security guard. We asked if they could send someone to clean but he said no. We couldn't stay in the unit and had to get out. We were told to return in the morning for a refund. On returning in the morning they refused to issue a refund. DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE, THE ROOMS ARE DISGUSTING, THE STAFF IS RUDE AND THEY ARE DISHONEST.
- visitor (2/5): - Its amenities and room service were inconvenient to me.
- Donald (8/5): Mas x menos - Very pretty grounds. Reasonably well maintained and secure. Air conditioning and TV worked great. No hand towels, blankets or extra pillows provided. No housekeeping on Sunday. Mattress was hard as a rock.
- Jose (6/5): - Cabins are very basic, this is actually good conserving the usual places where you can stay in the area, room had AC, beds ok, I would stay more than two night. You have to manually open the gate for the car every time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful grounds. Clean well kept 'Beach' access dangerous
- Scott (10/5): Great location - Very nice and clean room. Right on the beach and right at the edge of town.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room was smaller than expected. Although clean a bit rough around the edges. Rag for a shower floor mat. No tea/coffee making facilities. Overall feeling of being closed in even when sitting on porch.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place for the beach and restaurants nearby. Very clean and comfortable rooms.
- stephen (10/5): loved the individual cottage feel. - This is such a great little property. Each room is it's own little bungalow, place was near enough to town to walk but quite at night. I did not care for the town at all but that has nothing to do with the hotel. The receptionist was friendly the morning coffee was good and the room a/c worked great.
- Fiona (8/5): Great place! - I stayed here with my husband and mother-in-law for two nights and it was great. The location is perfect and very helpful service. I will be back!
- Tom (10/5): solid choice - great hotel, location...balcony with hammock was fantastic
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was quiet. Lots of birds. Friendly staff. Do not ask for more words. You asked for my comment take it as is.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful gardens, clean rooms, friendly staff. I would stay there again if there was cable TV, but the TV was just a flatscreen terminal with no signal. I wasn't there long enough to ask about it, so I don't know if this is standard or if there was something wrong with the connection.
Hammock aficionados should be aware that the hammocks pictured are cloth, not woven mesh.
- MICHAEL (10/5): Paradise - Great location. Beautifully designed and manicured grounds. A/C worked great. Wi-Fi was also great.
Perfect place to stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good enough for a couple, not necessarily kids - Close to town walkable with good restaurants near by, but will have to hitch a ride to a good beach.
Overall would recommend the Pacific side for families.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The little cabanas are really cute. Great location. Should have a free breakfast and did not like the ant issue outside our door but when we told the front desk they were quick to rectify the problem
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This property is in a great location, walking distance from everything you need.
- Claire (10/5): Great place - It is a lovely hotel in a very good location the cabins were quiet, had a good shower and a hammock. For me the only downside was the dogs at reception, they didn’t bite but were a little scary!
- Laneh (8/5): Definitely Recommend Hotel Escape Caribeño! - Out of the way, but close to everything. Simple and clean.
