Guest Reviews
- Theresa (8/5): -
- Lucy (8/5): It was a great Koke’e birthday! - Beautiful surroundings!
Nice spacious kitchen.
Beds were comfortable . The lighting in cabin was a little harsh.
- Karen (9/5): Cozy step up from camping with all the camping feels - Rustic and private, good starting base for hikes in the park Wood for the stove was very expensive
- Monica (3/5): If you will be out and about all day it's probably fine to just sleep but it really needs an update. - The location was great for access to the park. The food at the Lodge was excellent. The instructions to get there and the communication was good before our stay. The cabin needs some updating. I am not sure what kind of mattresses they are, but they need replacing, and the pillows were very flat. The bathroom shower and sink were both stained. I think the sink had rust, and not sure what stained the shower. I did not use the shower. There was absolutely no wifi, cell service, or internet. There is one payphone by the Lodge. There is no heat included with the price. If you want any heat, you have to buy your own wood to burn in the cabin's fireplace.
- wytske (10/5): -
- Jolanda (4/5): Ganz io - Die Lage Die Ausstattung (vorallem in der Küche) war sehr spärlich. Ohne Liebe und Gemütlichkeit eingerichtet
- Julie (5/5): We enjoyed our stay because we made sure to. Important to purchase firewood in Lihue none provided or available restau - It was in Kokee. We really liked the cozy restaurant and the museum. Facilities never updated, brown bed linens, could hear neighbors, roosters crowing at 3:15am. No information about hikes provided.
- Ewa (9/5): -
- Wendy (8/5): great - Location was great! Loved the wood burning stove. The roosters crowing all night! Luckily I have white noise on my phone Something needs to be done about them roaming free in the woods! Only three matches to start the fire no lighter. Had to borrow lighter from another cabin.
- Karin (9/5): - De locatie was te gek! Superveel sterren te zien! Dat je zelf hout moest kopen voor de houtkachel
- Alexandra (3/5): - There was really nothing to like about this place — I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Honestly, this was one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed. From the moment I got there, everything felt dirty and neglected. The bed sheets were disgusting — full of sand, stains, and who knows what else — and to make it even worse, I found a cockroach crawling in my bed on the very first night. It was honestly shocking and completely unacceptable.
I get the idea of being close to nature and don’t mind having no signal or network, but this went way beyond that. The whole place felt filthy; I couldn’t find a single clean spot anywhere. And the pictures we saw when booking looked nothing like the reality — totally misleading.
- NicoleS84 (1/5): - Nature Its surrounded by nature which is a pro but the accomodation itself could have been used for a 70's horror movie set. Technically nothing there was in good condition. Some Windows broken, fridge was rusted, shower was disgusting. I really do not recommend it. It has nothing in Commonwealth with the cabin in the pictures
- Fernandes (6/5): Place in the middle of nowhere, no wifi, power outage - The place is clean and comfortable, but it’s in the middle of nowhere. It only makes sense to stay here if you’re planning to do the Waimea Canyon and Kalalau Lookout hike; otherwise, it’s far from everything else. The address is actually NOT the one listed on the ad — that address is only for check-in. The real location is way up the mountain, about 35 minutes from town (where everything is). Another big downside is that there’s no Wi-Fi, and since it’s so remote, there’s also no cell service. On one of the days I stayed, the power went out, which made it hard for me to dry my hair and get ready nicely for photos.
- Umanzio (8/5): - Great cabin water pressure and heat. Stocked well. Great hikes. Get shower fiberglass cleaned.
- Tiffany (7/5): Nice stay but the cabin needs a new look - The cabin is located in the middle of nowhere but the location is very peaceful.
The beds are very comfortable.
The staff were super friendly We could not use the sofa as a bed because it was dirty and also not comfortable at all.
The shower looks very dirty.
There is no shelter in the bathroom so anything to put our staff on

- Anonymous (5/5): Passable -
- Jacob (8/5): Very good -
- Pierson (1/5): Bad - I sent photo's to booking
com of the black mold throughout this cabin, it rained that night and their eas a leak in the ceiling in one of the bedrooms. One of the cabinet doors in the kitchen was hanging. It was a black mold toxic environment. One of my friends coughed all night! I suggest the health department to evaluate the conditions. I had stayed at Kokee cabins twice years past enjoying the park and hiking the coast but the cabins back then were not full of mold!
- Edward (7/5): We loved getting up, cooking a good breakfast, and hike all day! The cabins are definitely cozy. - Perfect location for just getting up and hiking on the park! The two people in charge of cleaning and caretaking were both really lovely people. We really enjoyed every interaction we had with them. No hot water for a day and a half. However, they did fix the water heater promptly. There was no offer of compensation for the inconvenience. The interaction by text did not seem very empathetic, but that is difficult to convey over texting.
- Betty (9/5): Superb -
- Vallejos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yasmin (8/5): Love it, simple, rustic, nature and enjoyed the wood fired stove - The location is excellent for exploring the Koke state park. The cabins are rustic/simple but if you love nature and are happy with simple this is really a great choice. Personally I loved it! One thing to keep in mind is it is over an hours drive to other parts of the island so factor that into your thinking Cabins are very simple....a little bit of a facelift would make it a 10/10 experience
- Silva (10/5): Exceptional - The quietness and also the fact we are in nature and grew up here and come full circle with my own family and share that experience and family values with the new generation coming up. That it was a little dusty.
- Corey (8/5): Very good -
- Steph (10/5): Peaceful - Remote
- Camille (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stanners (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (8/5): A wonder alternative to beaches/swimming pools. Take a hike with views of the Na Pali coastline. - The cabins are rustic but just what we wanted. You can walk from your cabin to hiking trails in the state park. If I could change one thing it would be the lever windows as they are difficult to open and close.
- Laverne (8/5): Enjoyed the stay! - Had our own(leftovers) Cleaner..complete stove
- James (10/5): Nice rustic stay in a unique cabin location in the mountains of Kauai - The remoteness, rustic quality to the place, even the chickens and roosters that would nest in the jungle and start to come down around 4:30am were a nice island touch :).
The cabin had exceptional water pressure in the shower and the location has the best place to begin your hiking adventures along the Nepali coast trails. If you are looking to commune with nature and are not the “lame” resort crowd (you are a wanderer/adventurer at heart), you will love this experience. Other people’s poor reviews about this wonderful location; Some people have reviewed this property harshly/ poorly but this must be because they expected a 5 star resort experience in Hawaii, while this is a rustic state park where you will experience being in nature. Just because you are in Hawaii doesn’t automatically entitle you to expect a 5 star resort when you fail to read the description (which was extremely accurate in this case.)
- Summer (10/5): We love this property and are lucky to live on this island where we can visit heaven from time to time. - Rustic and cozy. Surrounded by beautiful greenery and so very peaceful. Little to no internet, which is a good thing. Nothing. There were some annoying occupants in the duplex next to us but they quieted down after the first night.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vanessa (9/5): Superb -
- Margot (7/5): Good - Bedding
2 towels
Location Broken kitchen tools
Thin wall in the duplex
- Fabian (7/5): Good -
- Sven (8/5): Was very sceptical due to the bad reviews but the stay was great. - It’s a cabin in a remote area and not a 5 star hotel. Can’t confirm the complaints of the other people. Showers were outdated but clean and phenomenal water pressure. There were a lot of blankets and the kitchen was fully stocked (no oil). No mobile coverage, 30min way to reception desk and fire wood are clearly communicated at every stage of the booking process. Be aware that there are a lot of wild chickens that will make noises all night long.
- Smici (8/5): One of a kind. No luxury, but beatifful sceneri outside the door. - Out in the jungle, far from the civilisation. The place was very clean, but very old nad desperat need for a renovation in the same time. Little cool, that we did not expect. Be prepared with warm, long clothing You need to pay for the firewood. you can only get here by car. Bring lots of warm clothes. its cold all day long.
- Gisele (9/5): A jewel of a wooden cabin in need of refreshing - Lovely cabin in the middle of nature,so very quiet and cosy, with a lot of space.we loved to have a fire in the living room and all the friendly roosters.it has old time charm and even if the kitchen and bathroom were really out of age,we enjoyed our stay Kitchen and bathroom badly need to be modernized but we did not really mind
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Crystal (8/5): Great rustic-but-not-tooooo-rustic stay! - I recommend staying at the cabins if 1) you want a bit of an adventure, 2) you want to be closer to the Waimea Canyon & Kalalau Valley lookouts, and 3) you don't mind being a bit rustic. After I had already spent 6 nights in Poipu, I spent 3 nights at these cabins to try something different. The cabins were way cleaner than I thought they would be, and I didn't have any issues at all with bugs. Be forewarned that there is no cell/internet service available at the cabins, they are heated by a wood buring stove (you can buy wood/newspaper/firestarters/matches from the office for about $22), and being in one of the duplexes means there will be another party in the other part of the cabin with very little soundproofing -- but I had a great time even with all that. I knew I could drive down the mountain about a mile and get cell/internet service if needed (or the Koke'e Lodge has wi-fi when it's open too), I figured out how to start a fire which was fun, and the people on the other side of the duplex stopped talking at 10:00 PM (when quiet hours began). So you can enjoy a very comfortable, clean, quiet, yet rustic time at these cabins if you'd like! FYI that the Koke'e Lodge is actually really awesome (it was like a hip coffee shop with great food), and I loved being close to the Kalalau Valley lookout to be able to see it first thing in the AM before the clouds rolled in. I was confused during research, so just FYI that it's free to go up and down this road -- you only pay if you want to stop at 1-4 of the 4 official state park lookouts -- you'll pay $10/car and $5/person in the car (so $15 for one person) and that allows you to stop at all of the lookouts for the rest of the day.
- James (8/5): Hikes to Napali coast and canyon waterfalls whiles staying at a lodge with cocktails! - Location to hikes and lodge with food and cocktails was super convenient. Due to the design of the windows there wasn’t great ventilation. Everything was a little damp due to the humidity namely the towels.
- Walter (10/5): Exceptional - We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the cabin. We will definitely do it again.
- Kelly (10/5): Koke’e magic! I love these hidden gems, rustic cabins filled with love in the BEST location you for - The fireplace was my favorite feature! Bring wood & cozy clothes. Star watching was incredible!
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Shelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (7/5): Good -
- Jason (7/5): Good -
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Another wonderful stay at the cabins in Koke'e. <3 nothing, everything was perfect.
- Chelsea (9/5): Great spot for something different. Rustic cabins with full kitchen. - Hot HOT water, comfy bed, close to trails, full kitchen/fridge. Soap/shampoos provided smelt really good. Enjoyed looking through old books and games provided in cabin. Not the property’s fault, but lots of kids.
- Alicia (8/5): Very good - I love staying in the cabins! One of my favorite places No hot water-unable to get the hot water heater to turn on
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rajmund (8/5): Great place in the middle of the Koke'e State Park. - location, location, location, no internet, no tv, no phone reception, roosters crowing from 2am to 8 pm nothing
- Alla (6/5): Pleasant -
- Viviana (4/5): Disappointing - location cleanness
- April (8/5): Very good -
- Andrek. (7/5): Great for visiting Kokee state park without a lot of comfort. - Perfect for a night to visit kokee state park. Nice location for nature lovers. A lot of bugs. Moist atmosphere at that altitude (hard to use the fireplace etc.)
- Leslie (8/5): Relaxing, enjoyed the mountain air, skies, cold at night, a refreshing change. - Breakfast was good at the lodge. We enjoyed the atmosphere, beautiful night skies, peaceful, calm serene environment of the mountains, with the cold air at night. Very enjoyable and relaxing stay. Pull out sofas, kitchen could be stocked better. Working stove and oven in all units.
- Chris (8/5): Fun experience - There are very few properties that are so close to Waimea Canyon. It is remote and beautiful. Staff were super-friendly and helpful. They called me in advance of stay to give me information and were very responsive. Because of our schedule we never met face-to-face but they made sure we had what we needed. The cabin had beds, a workable kitchen, and an adequate bathroom. Facility was reasonably clean but very dated. As such, it won't be for everyone, but for us it was a perfectly suitable place to put our heads in the evening. Loved the experience of being off the beaten path and staying in Kokee State Park with amenities above and beyond an actual camping experience. So appreciative of the attentiveness and excellent customer service provided by the staff we interacted with prior to and during our stay.
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (10/5): Unplugged and cozy - My wife and I met a couple old friends to do some hiking. We truly enjoyed the cabin experience with such wonderful location to incredible hiking trails. (also loved all the chickens) :)
- Umanzio (9/5): Duplexes are nothing fancy but are a great place to be to see nature for a lower price. - Lunch at Lodge was good. Rose and Carol are great at office in Waimea. Lookouts are very cool and hiking trails in the area are special. The cabin we had, Halla, is a good duplex for a group that all gets along as it is one big room, but it would be wonderful if it had a toaster instead of a rice cooker. I want to return soon! I wish the west kauai lodging company ran a shuttle service that could run people up and down the 15 mile hwy 550 to the cabins from Waimea so hikers did not have to always rent a car when they just want to hike and be up there for a few days. Nobody wants to pay high car rental fees when they are really not going to use the car much. Shuttle service/reasonable price to shuttle people---good job for someone. Just an idea--deliver pizza too!
- Dave (10/5): It was a very nice visit..and the view to and from was beautiful! - Well, it can't be helped but too many roosters crowing lol!
