Guest Reviews
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional! Probably the best stay we had in Costa Rica. - The whole experience was great! Such a detailed explanation and welcome from Cecile. The room was lovely and it was so nice to be able to order food in and sit on our terrace after a long day of travelling. The honesty bar is a great feature as well. Breakfast was one of the best we had during our entire stay in Costa Rica. The kids loved the pool, the toucans and the horses. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!
- Cristina (10/5): - El chocolate h estado genial Nada
- Brenda Mary (10/5): Wonderful - Wonderful property. Very comfortable and relaxing. Host is extremely friendly. The grounds are large with walking trails and lots of birds. Breakfast is also very good. Can only recommend 😊 Our stay was too short.
- Valeria (10/5): -
- Katarzyna (10/5): - A truly outstanding hotel in every aspect. We stayed there for just one night, but it will be an unforgettable stay. If you enjoy being surrounded by nature, it’s definitely worth choosing. The owners are extremely kind. A delicious breakfast.
- Kristen (10/5): Absolutely perfect! - A wonderful stay at a relaxing, gorgeous property with everything we needed. Everyone was so helpful and made for a perfect stay! Nothing!
- Bin_P (10/5): - Wyjatkowe miejsce, olbrzymi teren, pięknie zagospodarowany, budynki wtopione w pięknie zagospodarowana przyrodę. Przemili właściciele, pyszny domowy, europejski chleb na sniadanie.
- Caroline (10/5): Best place we stayed on our 4 week road trip around Costa Rica! - Everything was the best quality! Excellent view from the cabana, this was the only place in Costa Rica that we saw wild toucans too. Loved the cabana it was very high quality and the bedt we have stayed in, super comfortable bed and super shower, all was spotless. Loved the home made delights in the afternoon and breakfasts. They make chocolate from their own plantation and home made jams at breakfast etc.
Host was super helpful snd ensured your stay was a happy one. All was perfect
- Jennifer (10/5): Highly recommend to anyone staying in this area. A true gem - Staff was exceptional
Food was fantastic
Grounds are beautiful
Villa was amazing
- Randy (9/5): -
- Megan (9/5): The perfect jungle stay! - The location was great - perfect jumping off point for Rio Celeste tubing and Rincon de La Vieja. We stayed in Tortuga, which had a great little outdoor area for relaxing and bird watching. It was awesome to stay on jungle property and be surrounded by lush flora everywhere.
Our host was wonderful, full of recommendations and ideas. Every day they made a great breakfast - eggs prepared to your liking, bread, fruit, coffee, and even banana pancakes one morning! The gravel road took some patience, but honestly we saw all sorts of cars tackle this road without any issue at all. Don’t let this get in the way of staying here!!
- Harald (10/5): Great location, perfect host - Everything perfect! Modern very comfortable rooms. Beautiful nature. Great breakfast.
- Dave (10/5): Exceeded our expectations. Pura vida in every way 💚 - Mei Tai is a gorgeous property with hiking trails, beautiful jungle, and freshwater ponds. The casitas have everything needed for a perfect stay. We had a delicious patio breakfast each morning overlooking the rolling hills and ponds. Daria and Sydney were so friendly and accommodating. We loved our stay. We loved everything :)
- Amir (10/5): - Freindly staff, little piece of heavn
- Ivan (10/5): Very friendly B&B at the picturesque location close to many local attractions. - The B&B grounds are lovely and well-maintained. Breakfast is hearty. Cecily, the host, is very attentive and friendly. Dinners can be ordered via the hotel website and delivered right to your room.
- Joern (10/5): - Ein traumhaftes Naturerlebnis
- Tracy (10/5): Paradise! - I'm struggling to find the right words to describe how lovely Mei Tai Cacao was. The flora and fauna, breathtaking. Pure relaxation. Syr Daria, Cecile and Vanessa were just delightful. Beautiful inside and out! We couldn't have asked for a better end to our stay in Costa Rica.
- Fergus (10/5): The place was fabulous. - The owners were fantastic.
The property was beautiful.
The casita was comfortable. This not really a complaint but be aware that the pool is part of the owners house and is open to guests only during very specific hours during the day.
- Terence (10/5): Great property, excellent location, delicious chocolates! - Great property standing in extensive grounds and has its own three hiking trails! Excellent location for visiting Rio Celeste. The lovely Belgian owners make their own pralines & hot chocolate which were delicious!
- Manfred (10/5): Beautiful place in an amazing area - The place is great, beautiful, clean and comfortable. Breakfast is incredible and you will be full to start the day. There are many restaurants and supermarkets around. Also you can visit Tenorio Volcano in which you will find Rio Celeste and there are many activities around.
- Alison (10/5): Highly recommended. Wonderful stay in a fantastic unspoilt part of Costa Rica. - Location. Quiet. Access to nature. Friendly hosts. Great breakfast. Nothing
- Paul (10/5): Simply Stunning - It's so hard to put into words how wonderful Mei Tai Cacao Lodge is and It encapsulates what Costa Rica is about. The way it has been designed, managed and the thought that has gone into it is a credit to the family who own and operate it. Syr Daria and Cécile are just delightful and their enthusiasm, love of the local area, its flora and fauna just enhanced our stay. A lovely breakfast with homemade bread & locally made jams which were delicious. We loved the facility to order takeaway evening meals from the local restaurants and have them delivered to the lodge at a time of your choosing. These are plated up and served at tables in their own restaurant area. This not only supports the local community but gives a very wide menu choice and saves the 3.5km trip into the village.
The birdlife around the lodge was neverending & we were fortunate to see 8 Toucans together in one tree and minutes later 3 different Toucans together. We should have stayed more than 3 nights!!
- Robert (10/5): - We absolutely loved the place. Family run and super friendly. Beautiful property with lots of wildlife.
Our first time in country and will definitely stay here again!!
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - This place is so relaxing and clean. The breakfast was fantastic. I'm very happy we spent some time here. Nothing bad to say. Would definitely recommend.
- Benoit (10/5): - We had an excellent stay in this B&B. The location is amazing in the middle of the nature, very quiet.
The breakfast is great and the recommendation for local tour are very helpful.
In addition it is possible to order diner from the city that will be served in their dining room.
It was extremely convenient.
- Christopher (10/5): A perfect experience - The spacious cabin is set in beautiful grounds. Multi-lingual Syr- Daria was the perfect hostess; warm, welcoming and a great cook. Her Thai curry was fabulous. She also helped us by posting on my glasses when I left them behind - this was a much appreciated kindness.
- Margot (8/5): Very good -
- Travis (10/5): - Gorgeous finca with individual bungalows for each group. The family that runs this gem, built it from the ground up and everything is just divine. It was a fabulous stay
- Aryeh (10/5): - Absolutely everything! Mei Tai is an incredible gem in Costa Rica that should be visited by all tourists who are caring and thoughtful enough to recognize what Costa Rica is all about. Cecile and her family go out of their way to make your experience incredibly comfortable and relaxing. She takes the time from the moment you drive onto the property to personalize your stay. The piece of advice we have is listen to absolutely everything that she says. Bijauga is relatively untouched by tourists compared to some of the major attractions in Costa Rica and we hope it stays that way. Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay with you! PS – try the orange bananas. They will rock your world.
- Thomas (10/5): A little paradise -
- Barbara (10/5): - Sehr nette Gastgeber, wunderbare Umgebung und hübsche Unterkunft
- Isaak (10/5): A perfect and memorable place to stay - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The property boasts a picturesque, park-like ambiance with abundant native plants and a symphony of birds. Nestled in a tranquil, secluded location surrounded by nature, it’s an ideal retreat. The hosts are warm, personable, and always eager to provide recommendations for local activities and dining. They’re also knowledgeable about the area’s flora, fauna, and Costa Rican way of life.
The breakfast spread is delightful, featuring locally made jams and freshly baked bread. Don’t miss the chance to sample their homemade chocolate crafted from cacao beans grown right on the property! The cabin itself is comfortable and equipped with modern conveniences, including ample hot water, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi.
One of the highlights was spending time on the patio, where we could listen to and observe a variety of birds, including vibrant toucans. The property offers scenic trails and even a swimming pool, making it easy to enjoy a full day without venturing beyond its boundaries All was good! Minor complaints: No microwave and wish the road to the property was paved!
- Richard (10/5): - Very comfortable cabins in a wonderful nature setting. Will definitely come back. Great location to explore the area from.
- Jared (10/5): Amazing location, excellent accommodations and breakfast, kind hosts - Amazing setting. Kind hosts. Beautiful nature. Nice rooms. Great breakfast. I loved it, but for those who are not used to the sounds of nature, the surrounding jungle and grounds are alive with the noises of creatures all night long.
- Amy (10/5): Magical paradise tucked away in Costa Rica! - This is a magical place and made our entire stay in Costa Rica. The owners are delightful and full of knowledge of the area, the property is beautiful and just sitting outside and soaking it in will take years off your life and the breakfasts are delicious! I loved waking up each morning to all the birds and feeling the peaceful energy. There are hikes available on the property and you feel like you are the only ones around. I’m grateful to have found this gem and can’t wait to go back!
- Jeremiah (10/5): - Hello Eric and Celeste! Lauren and I loved ever moment of our stay with you. Thank you, truly.
- Achim (10/5): Beautiful farm - We had a lovely stay here. The Garden is so beautiful and there are even walking paths and trails. We loved watching all the birds, especially the hummingbirds. We will definitely be back.
- Monméjean (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Efrat (10/5): Highly recommended - Magical farm run by a sweet couple. Amazing homemade breakfast. Cecile was very friendly and gave us a lot of tips on what to do in the area. Beautiful room and balcony. Nothing it was all perfect.
- Tal (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place, amazing hospitality and fantastic breakfast
- Nir (9/5): Superb - What a perfect piece of heaven. We enjoyed the cabin, the beautiful surroundings, the birds, and the forest ambiance. It was great relaxing in the pool and jacuzzi, and the breakfast was good.
Cecil is a wonderful host with lots of good advice who really cares for her guests. There were some problems with electricity, Wifi, and water, but we understand that sometimes that happens in Costa Rica. So all good.
- Josephine (10/5): Highly recommended - The setup with the room in the beautiful and large garden makes it so private! We loved the outside porch. Cécile is such a warm and welcoming personality. She gave us great tips for exploring the surroundings.
- Sven (10/5): 3 nights in Paradies - everything. It starts with the awesome hospitality of Cecile and Eric. Everyone is so nice and kind. Then there is the rich, very special and always fresh breakfast each morning which gets you started for a fun packed day. You have so many opportunities to do in the area, like Tenorio with Rio Celeste or a night jungle tour and many more. But you can also just stay on the finca grounds and explore. There we have seen tons of different birds (including 3 types of toucans) as well as white faced monkeys. The cabins have a really high standard and nothing was missing. Cecile provided us with the best tips were we could have a great dinner. Our whole family never wanted to leave - It was our last stop on our trip but we couldn’t have chosen a better place. -
- Justine (10/5): peaceful nature setting - We loved the peaceful setting in the middle of nature. Comfy beds and Eric and Cecile provided lots of tips and recommendations for places to visit and eat. Thank you for a lovely stay.
- Cea61 (10/5): A very special place - Finca Mei Tai is a little piece of heaven! Tucked up a lane only a couple of minutes drive from a small village with shops, bank restaurant and close to Rio Celeste and parks. It is beautifully maintained, full of wonderful trees, plants and wildlife. We enjoyed walks through the property, visits to the waterfall, hiking and the fascinating Tree Chocolate tour. Breakfast on the terrace admiring the backdrop, watching and listening to the birds and monkeys was a great start to the day. We loved it so much we stayed an extra day and would have stayed longer if time allowed! If you want peace, tranquility and a base to explore this beautiful untouched area it's top! Celeste and Eric care for their guests as much as they do their beautiful property and made us feel so welcome. They gave us helpful advice and suggestions for trips out each day. The cabinas are super well equipped and cleaned daily. You have all your own facilities to cook or you can order in via their brilliant website that supports the local restaurateurs. Also if you are interested in the native, tropical fauna Eric has a comprehensive, interactive, guide to the species you will find on the property. The extensive planting that they have undertaken and the development of the property as a wildlife and natural habitat is inspiring. This is a very special place to stay. Our highlight of our trip! Merci Celeste and Eric. Absolutely nothing!
- Julie (10/5): Excellent accommodation - Location is stunning. Set in beautiful grounds with lots of wildlife. Accommodation is great, with lovely outdoor seating area. Breakfast is the best we have had. Fresh fruit salad, eggs and home baked bread. A different Costa Rican coffee each morning and locally made jams all explained by an excellent host. We were given excellent advice on places to visit and help in booking. Highly recommended Mattress could do with replacing, a bit uncomfortable.
- Giangi (10/5): Exceptional - We had most likely the nicest bungalow, can’t imagine there is a better one 😉. Used the outdoor kitchen one night and ate on the terrace, surrounded by the park & woods. Hummingbirds 5 meters away & tucans in the trees, amazing.
Nice breakfast at the main house with really good homemade bread. Did a nice 30 min. hike on the property trail starting from the bungalow. Just FYI, If one needs /wants to eat out, its a 30 min. walk to town
- Rhonda (10/5): Amazing. The owners Eric and Cecil are wonderful. - The property is absolutely beautiful.
It is ins great location.
- Busch (10/5): incredible - Wonderful hosts, beautiful home and gardens. The space they have created for guests to enjoy the tasty breakfast provided includes magnificent views! Regardless of whether you are looking up into the secondary forest hills (planted by our hosts) to create safe passage for some of the creatures we share our planet with, or watching some of these amazing creatures engage with the ponds full of tilapia OR if you are marveling at the craftsmanship and palpable reverence of the tree(s) evidenced in the many wonderful stairs, benches, bannisters, light fixtures, ceilings...WOW and that is all without getting the the Chocolate! The data rich documentation of each batch may contribute to it being some of the best chocolate you may ever have, all delivered on a beautiful wooden pedestal or wrapped in a paper cone - it is a Belgium/Costa Rica fusion. The Tree Chocolate farm tour (recommended by our host) was the highlight of our entire trip.
It was incredibly rejuvenating to spend time surrounded by so many humans who demonstrate a responsible, thoughtful, regenerative way of co-existing with our natural world. At the Tree Chocolate farm, our tour guide (trained by the farmer, his mentor) provided a fantastically fun and informative tour through a 45 year old permaculture farm where we drank and ate chocolate and coconuts and enjoyed the tire swing in the pouring rain. I wish I had bought so many more bags of the Tree Chocolate's dark roast coffee, it transcends coffee and reaches the chocolate realm with a super smooth aftertaste of deep dark chocolate - OMG
- John (10/5): Exceptional - It’s located on a wonderful property with ponds and tropical lushness. The owners were wonderful. Great breakfast. I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to stay there. You should probably add an extra day or two. It’s that nice. You can have dinner delivered, which we did every night. It was nice to stay put and enjoy the property without driving in the dark to find a restaurant. Delivery was good food and prompt and reasonable. It’s down a long dirt road, but it is no big problem. You need a car to get there.
- Shelley (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and magical! Amazing flowers and birds. Lovely pond. And we made use of the pool and hot tub too A little tucked away down a road outside of town. But it was worth it for a beautiful surroundings. Too far to walk into town, but really it was only like 6-7 minute drive in to town for dinners. So it was fine.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Don't miss staying here! - An amazing place to stay. The hosts are absolutely wonderful! Giving tips on where to go. The surroundings are stunning and the cabin we stayed in was everything we wanted! No complaints here!
- Rebecca (10/5): We would definitely recommend this location to any of our friends and are likely to stay there again - Beautiful grounds and lots of birds, welcoming and friendly owners, comfortable and spacious room, great breakfast. Nothing.
- Anat (10/5): excellent! but don’t tell too many people 😉 - wet authentic with European facilities nothing
- Gca_73 (10/5): Great stay in a lovely B&B - The house we rented was really nice, very comfortable and well equipped.
The breakfast was every morning simply superb.
The garden is wonderful. From our terrace, we saw many hummingbirds and a also toucan flying to its nest just next to the house.
The hosts have lots of suggestions on things to do. In case of any issues/problems, they really help, this could not have been any better. When we stayed in July, we had a lot of wind and rain during 2 days. As the house has is an outdoor kitchen, this section became rather wet. Also the quality of the 5th matrass did not match the quality of the others (which were really good).
- KG (10/5): - When traveling through Costa Rica, everyone should take the opportunity to stay at a finca (farm). Finca Mei Tai is perfect - grounds and views are beautiful! With just 3 rooms, you feel like an honored guest of Eric & Cecile’s. The location is close to Bijagua so you have great access to the restaurants and Rio Celeste. In addition, we had the cottage with the private outdoor lounge area with stereo. It is a great touch which my teenage daughters loved!
The breakfast was an absolute delight. Fruit, eggs, fresh bread, local jams, cold cuts, juice, hot chocolate, coffee, tea even kid’s cereal if your kids are craving it.
So happy that we stayed here.
- Federico (8/5): Beautiful area - Great place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The B&B was located on a scenic and spacious property. The owners were extremely nice, catering and took time to give the history of the property and the region. Finally the guest room was large, clean and had everyone you could desire for a comfortable stay. I will recommend this property to friends and family who plan on staying in the area and we will be back ourselves as well.
- Joseph (10/5): - My girlfriend and I sincerely enjoyed our 1 night stay at Finca Mei Tai. Eric and Cecile were the most genuinely friendly hosts we have met in Costa Rica have a very interesting life story (and that is saying something!). Their finca is on a beautiful piece of land set in the mountains, which we were encouraged to enjoy on a short hike through the cacao plantations after a delicious complimentary breakfast made by Eric and Cecile themselves. The room was uniquely decorated, spotless, and very comfortable. The location is perfect for access to the Tenorio Volcano/Rio Celeste hike, and also great if your looking for a longer stay of the beaten path!
- Cathy (10/5): - We stayed here 3 nights during our vacation to Costa Rica. It was very nice with a comfortable room and great breakfast. The owners took a personal interest in us to help us find activities we would enjoy while we were spending some of our vacation time in their beautiful part of Costa Rica.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - one of a kind experience in the hills of Bijagua. Great concept, and a neat trail built by the owners to see the surrounding areas. 10/10
- Guy and Cindy (10/5): Best in Costa Rica - Quiet and peaceful property, set right against the mountains, We saw several toucans on the property and on the road to the property. Close to Bijagua, yet far enough to feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, only a mile or so off of highway 6, the main road. Owners are wonderful and friendly, serve a very good breakfast and very informative of the area. There is no AC, but the breeze made it very comfortable, room had good screened windows and was immaculately clean. Bijagua was our favorite town in Costa Rica and will return as soon as we can.
