roberts (10/5): Nice hotel weather very cold wind. - The food was very good we ate most nights at the hotel. The beds were always made and the bathroom was always clean. Some of the staff were very rude and at times made us feel uncomfortable. Especially the bar staff didnt get our order right but there was no apology. Had to ask for our table to be cleared on a number of occasions.

It’s a great building, good size bedrooms, breakfast is wonderful, excellent bar and dinning. It’s has a lift !!! Good location, easy walk into town and love watching the ferries come and go on the island.

philp995 (8/5): Great location - Everything is clean and well kept, all the staff are friendly, helpful and polite. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and good. We had a sea view room which was smaller than expected and a shower into a bath which is always tricky but rooms with walk in showers are available on reservations. Just be aware if there is a coach party booked it can be very loud and busy so pick your timings. Excellent location for all attractions and terminal Overall l would definitely recommend
Robyn (6/5): Nice by the beach and room was clean but bar service let down the atmosphere. - Nice right by the seaside, room was clean and reception staff friendly :) The bar was very slow service and staff weren’t particularly friendly or customer oriented, seemed stressed.- was a shame as we planned to spend the evening in the hotel’s bar/ restaurant but were quickly put off so went somewhere else. Light in the corridors were very bright at night time through the bedroom door, and can hear other residents using bathroom facilities.

neiltansley (6/5): Convenient but could do better - As I stayed at a premier inn recently I compared my visit to the empress with my experience there. Location - better - sea front with views of Douglas Bay ( we booked a sea view room) Rooms - bigger than premier inn but more dated - furniture equivalent to 1980s MFI. Bed as comfy. Communal areas in reception area are modern and finished to a high standard. Bedrooms now need the same attention. Food - lovely food in brasserie and piano bar. Breakfast offering not as good as premier inn. Value - considering we upgraded to a premium room I thought overall value was below average .

wendyjplatt (10/5): Weekend away - Great hotel in a central position. The room was large with a lovely sea view. Cosy feel, warm and decorated to a high standard. Very friendly staff. The breakfast was very good. Lots to choose from. We had a meal at the restaurant. Great food and good service. The corridors have been newly decorated and have plush carpet. The hotel is in a central location half way along the prom so good for the electric railwayand the steam train.

DJJansta (4/5): Disappointing stay due to noise and poor response - We stayed at the The Empress Hotel for two nights while visiting the island for work (a show). There were five of us across three rooms. On the Saturday night, there was a charity event taking place downstairs. We completely understand events happen, but we had an early start the next morning so went to bed reasonably early — only to be met with extremely loud bass and dance music coming straight up into our rooms. We tried to persevere, but by around 10:30pm we called reception. Unfortunately, the response was very disappointing. The receptionist didn’t ask for our room number or offer any real help, simply stating it would continue until midnight. As the evening went on, the noise actually got worse. The bass was so strong it was making the beds vibrate, and you could clearly hear every song being played. Another member of our group, in a separate room, also called reception and was spoken to quite rudely. The music continued past midnight, and the following morning we overheard several other guests making similar complaints. Due to the lack of sleep, especially with work the next day, this really put a downer on our trip. It’s a shame as the location is great, but based on this experience, we wouldn’t return.

Susan (8/5): Lovely sea front location: friendly staff, very good restaurant, good hot & cold breakfast buffet. - Very good well replenished breakfast buffet - hot and cold choices. Lots of space to sit in the piano bar which also offered bar meals. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. Lovely friendly staff, both upstairs and downstairs. The hotel is quite a distance from 'downtown' Douglas, but there are bus stops near the hotel, and the horse tram a short walk away. We stayed for 7 days at the end of April, it was quiet at all the castles and places of interest and most of them were open. Transport links around the island are excellent This is an old seafront hotel, so the building reflects that in the bedrooms, which could be updated, but they had everything as advertised. We asked for a higher room, unfortunately, the small lift was constantly in use during the morning breakfast period, so we had to use the stairs - not a problem for us, but for someone less able there is a lot of stairs to descend from the upper floors

The location is excellent, in walking distance from the ferry terminal and many of the Douglas attractions. We had a spacious room overlooking the bay which was warm and comfortable. The breakfast selection from the buffet was good. The various meals we had in the bar were good. The prices of the hotel room and the meals and drinks were reasonable. The weather wasn’t always great while we were there but we can’t blame the hotel for that! Overall, a most enjoyable stay and we shall return. Thank you.

B4532TQvanessas (8/5): Great Location with Old Room Furniture - Location is excellent and we really enjoyed the Balmoral suite facing the water with beautiful bay windows. The stay was kind and the hotel food was good and easily accessible. Breakfast was great. The only downfall of this hotel is the room furniture. It's very old and dated, drawers don't close. I felt like I stepped back in the 1980's.

Phil (7/5): - Friendliness of staff, breakfast was great and the opulence of the hotel was great Bedroom was small and unfortunately having booked three nights, we could only be there for two as the ferry was cancelled from Liverpool, but were still charged for three. Whether this was a hotel issue or Booking.com, I don't know. But I feel it's very unfair
ROD (7/5): over all a good polite hotel , just needs some minor details to make it nice and welcoming - most of the hotel was good , hall ways looks a little tired , didnt have coffe available at the bar /reception which would have been nice after a walk only available downstairs till 10.0 bar didnt open till past 11 , so just that gap , also the bar area or front area was a lovely veiw to sit there and drink coffe Smell in the bathroom which was a little musky , we put down to the shower curtain , put you off going in there so maybe these could be looked to be changed or cleaned more regular

bbcrystal (10/5): Lovely hotel in a good location. Welcoming staff and good food. - The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food in the bar and restaurant was excellent and service was quick even though there was a big coach party there when we stayed. The breakfast was excellent.
jean (10/5): Quirky, old-fashioned ( in a great way) hotel - It’s a lovely old period place, don’t expect even floors and perfect corners, it’s showing signs of its long history but we loved it Nothing. This island is unique and beautiful and in a little bit of a charming time warp. If you’re looking for the Sheraton it’s not that but it’s quirky and spotless with fantastic staff.

clairehY9636RQ (8/5): Empress Hotel Douglas - The hotel is in a lovely location very close to the ferry and central in Douglas. The Hotel when we got there the staff were very friendly at reception any time we went to them. Breakfast was a buffet. The only issue I had was that the sausages were cheap and not too good. The selection was great and more than adequate. The room was small and we were a bit annoyed as our friends got a sea view and paid less than we did. The plus side for me was the service that you received everyday was a lovely clean room and sheets and towels. Everything was kept spotless. The pillows were absolutely dreadful and effected our comfort greatly. The cleaning lady tried her best to find us a better pillow but they were all the same. A good pillow is crucial for better sleep. I was impressed with our stay and I would recommend this hotel, even though there was a few bits were were unhappy with.
wirepuller (10/5): Empressive! - There's an unpretentious, old-world charm (facilitated in part by the art-deco style in the public spaces) about the place. I liked it a lot.
Caledfryn16 (8/5): The Empress. - On a positive note the staff were excellent. I would like to thank the waitress who served us both evenings and for drink during the morning. She went above and beyond to help. The bar was closed when we asked for a pot of tea at 11am but she said she would go and make it for us, she was extremely helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. All other staff were also very helpful and friendly. On the negative, there were 4 of us staying, one 92 year old who required a walk in Shower , this room was very nice. 2 other adults and a. 4 month old baby in a family room. Family room had a double, single and cot, very small room. Corridors narrow and could only just get the pushchair through. After the first night we left the pushchair in reception. My mother was one part of the hotel, the lift was very small, couldn’t get two adults and the pushchair in it. The family room was another side of the hotel and the lift this side was even smaller and this was used for disabled access which you had to navigate through the breakfast room which was below reception. Not sure a wheelchair and companion would fit in the lift, we only managed 1 adult with the pram. Public spaces were pleasant and clean. Hotel didn’t really suit our needs.
Llinos (6/5): Excellent staff, nice restaurant but not suited to families - The staff were superb! Couldn’t do enough to help. They were incredibly friendly and always went the extra mile for help us. The property itself is quite nice but it didn’t suit our needs. Corridors are narrow and the lifts are minute which makes moving about with a pushchair very difficult (we were travelling with a young baby). The family room was also very very small. It consisted of a double bed, single and a cot. There was barely room to move. The sea view rooms where a relative was staying were much more spacious. Also, the hairdryer in our room was one of those old fashioned ones you’d get in the bathroom and it barely blew air out.

jvic (9/5): excelent hotel, very clean and good location - The hotel is in a very beautiful building, the rooms are spacious enough (I had a single room), very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. The restaurant has a large variety of food and drinks and a very nice view towards the beach. Location is ideal - on the other side of the street from the beach, with a bus station (Central Promenade) less than 5 minutes away. The shopping area is about 5-10 minutes walking away. Nothing to mention here.

evewN8264NF (10/5): Valentine's Treat overnight stay - My husband and I booked this hotel for an overnight stay with entry to their Robbie Williams tribute event for a Valentines treat with two other couples. We requested a sea view room which had a great view of the water and Douglas Bay. The room was big, comfortable and clean. The tribute event included a carvery and a disco. The event was really well organised. The food was great and the hotel catered for the two vegetarians in our group. The staff were really attentive, very pleasant and polite. We would definitely recommend this hotel particularly for their organised event evenings.

The food was good, the Robbie Williams tribute act was excellent, the room was great with one small problem with the sink which was fixed within minutes. An excellent value for money night out for two locals.

martyfarty69 (6/5): Meh - Stayed at the Empress Isle of Man recently for a few days and here are my observations. I booked a single room while I was in town visiting family. When you first walk in the outside looks pretty nice, but once you get inside and start checking out the property you can tell it's old and needs some updates. Check in was fine, heading up to my room the walls / carpet and overall decor remind me of 1980's British Seaside hotel...not 2026. Room was tiny, some things I found with the room. TV Was OK...a little small and remote had to be pointed at it at just the right place for it to work. Heat - The room was cold and even with the heat turned all the way up it still was cold, in particular the Bathroom was freezing most of the time. Bathroom. Shower / Tub was pretty basic...I also don't understand why they couldn't put a towel rail near the shower itself instead of the other side of the room so you either have to get out the shower and get the room soaking wet on the way to get your towel, or you have to put the towel on the floor to retrieve it. How much can a Towel Rail on the wall near the shower cost ?? Google calls his a 4-Star Hotel..this is 2 Star at best. Probably woudn't stay here again.
