• María (7/5): Demasiado caro para lo que ofrece - La ubicación muy bonita, la decoración del hotel y las instalaciones también. Además muy limpio. El desayuno muy bueno. El servicio no me pareció especialmente atento para costar 500€ la noche, tuve un par de olvidos y no hicieron mucho por ayudarme. No había ascensor por lo que he tenido que subir y bajar mis maletas a cuestas. La habitación un poco pequeña. No me pareció bien que no haya servicio de mesa en el bar, con el precio que tiene.
• 572alexisj (10/5): Clara made our afternoon unforgettable - We had an amazing time at a lovely afternoon tea with myself, my daughter, and my mum. The staff were all lovely and friendly, and the restaurant’s atmosphere was beautiful. We absolutely loved the setting and the vibe. We hadn’t been since the 2023 refurb, so it felt fresh and new to us. But the absolute highlight of our visit was the incredible Clara. She was so friendly, warm, and personable, she truly made our afternoon. She chatted with my mum so kindly and was so complimentary. She really made it for us!

• Gumbley (7/5): Beware: most spa facilities are only for club members! - The decor is gorgeous across the hotel and in the bedrooms. The food in the Ombre resaurant was really great and the bar made great cocktails. The hotel breakfast the next day was decent, not amazing. My criticisms are that the hotel was quite poor at responding to the request for an early check-in - this wasn't possible but they also didn't let us know. The major disappointment was that most of the spa facilities are not available for general hotel guests. The only facilties are the gym (which is small but well equipped), pool, sauna and steamroom. The other facilties (outdoor spa, outdoor pool, relaxation room, salt room, aromatherapy room and sensory shower, were only available to guests paying for a premium package. This wasn't obvious to me when I booked, more hidden in small print, and so I was disappointed not to be able to use the facilities as I had specifically booked because there was such a great range!

• Sienna (6/5): Lovely location and property, disappointed with the customer service and staff attendance. - The room was beautiful, the spa environment itself was relaxing and well presented, and the overall setting was exactly what I was hoping for At dinner, when I informed the waiter about a food allergy (which has already been noted before my arrival), he audibly sighed at me. As someone with dietary requirements, this was both embarrassing and disappointing. Food allergies should be handled professionally and without making guests feel like an inconvenience. In addition, I noticed a distinct difference in the way I was spoken to at the spa reception before and after upgrading my spa experience. Prior to upgrading, the interaction felt noticeably colder and less welcoming. Once I chose to upgrade, the tone and manner towards me became significantly friendlier. Whether intentional or not, this gave the impression that guests are treated differently depending on the level of package they purchase, which I found uncomfortable and disappointing Poor attitude of the staff.
• HARRY (6/5): Nice hotel but not worth the price, additional £260 to access main spa for a couple - Breakfast and coffee was good, japanese restaurant was good although expensive It was not made clear at all upon booking that the spa isnt included. All of the paid adverts online show the full spa, when you go you only have access to a much smaller / basic spa which was very loud, not very relaxing. Cost to go to the rest of the spa was £130 per person for 1 day, so £260 when we already spent £400+ on the hotel. There is nothing else in the area, the whole point of going out of the way is for the spa hotel, not having access to the main spa by default makes it a pointless stay. Whilst the bars are nice, the prices are very high, cocktails are £18-20 including service charge, more than most places in London. For the price, you would expect some toiletteries, mini toothpase, moisturiser, anything, but there is nothing provided at all.

• veronikakK9387GK (10/5): Tea dream come true - I went to afternoon tea with my mum, it has always been a dream of her. It was wonderful! Lovely tearoom, tasty food and great tea selection. Our waitress Clara was amazing, super attentive and friendly. She was also so kind and took photos so my mum and me could have some memories.

• Q9871XZlauram (10/5): Sopwell House... As Alaways The Best 👌 - Had an amazing spa and stay at Sopwell. We have been here a few times since 2015 and everytime is spot on. It has had a refurb since we were last here in 2024 and seems to get better and better. We had use of the cottonmill spa and 2x 60 minute treatments which both were perfect 👌 Food as always lovely! Have been to a few spas but always end up comparing them to Sopwell. Have to say a big thank you to Cilla on reception for best customer service. Definitely will be returning ☺️
• WrightTravellers (10/5): Best UK spa hotel - A wonderful weekend! We had the spa package with 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast and use of the club spa. So worth paying the extra for the club so access. Staff were all wonderful and couldn’t do enough to help you without being overly formal. The quality of the hotel is exceptional, plenty of restaurant options and lovely bar with fantastic cocktails. Will we back be, absolutely yes. This is now my favourite spa hotels.
• Natasha (4/5): For the price it didn’t meet the expectations of other hotels at the same tier - Beautiful grounds and the hotel is decorated beautifully, staff very friendly and all food and drink tasted delicious! The breakfast buffet area too busy, hot and smelly didn’t enjoy being in the room. There was a wedding at the hotel the night before and not sure if the hotel just couldn’t handle being that busy. Dinner service slow, drinks arrived after our food, although waiter was apologetic as feel they were busy and stretched. Could hear the wedding music within our room when trying to sleep. Then kept getting woken up by slamming of other bedroom doors late into the night and loud chatter in the hallways from wedding guests I’m guessing.
• alexas1970 (10/5): Lovely stay thanks to NATALIE on reception, who helped a frazzled / burnt out me! - HUGE thanks to Natalie on Reception. 🙏🏼 She answered my call Friday at 6pm and helped me find the perfect room ( 106 ) for a 2 night stay. She was very patient, kind and empathetic. If it weren’t for her, I may have booked The Grove - and because of her, i will return. Definitely an asset to the hotel. 😇🫶🏼 Food was great, a couple of times I had to go and look for staff to order a drink but it was busy and sunny, so thats perhaps why. Grounds are spotless, everyone is welcoming. Big shout out to Clara and Nadia in Omboo, worked very hard to make sure everyone enjoyed their dinner experience. Will definitely return - thanks to Natalie foremost, then to Clara and Nadia…. Alexa 💜 ( By the way the best rooms are the ‘chic rooms’ - recommended. 👍🏻)

The photos online make you assume that the cottonmill spa is included within your booking and can be misleading. The property itself is faultless.

I wish the pool was open just a bit later. 10:30 would be great for those who eat earlier in the evening and want a post dinner swim.

• joannelP6590UN (6/5): Afternoon tea was not the experience it should be - Afternoon tea should be about the experience and sadly the experience was not that nice ! Our waiter did not get a lot right , he didn’t bring our champagne as we chose that option . He didn’t bring the sandwiches we asked for and he also didn’t offer another tea. The sandwiches and scones were very nice thanks to the kitchen . However it was not value for money. I did mention it to the girls when I paid but they said sorry but that was all. Poor atmosphere and it was awkward.

• amiry943 (2/5): Premium Prices, Poor Experience – Not Worth It - I had a very disappointing experience at Sopwell House, especially considering the premium price you are expected to pay. From the outset, basic requests were not handled properly. We had specifically requested halal food, which was not adequately catered for, leaving us feeling overlooked and uncomfortable during what should have been a relaxing stay. The room setup was also unacceptable — instead of a proper arrangement, two single beds were pushed together, which is not what you expect from a hotel of this standard. The spa experience was equally poor. The massage was cut short and did not meet expectations in terms of quality. In addition, cleanliness standards were below par, with the toilets not being properly maintained. What was most disappointing, however, was how management handled the situation. Despite raising these issues, the response was dismissive and lacked accountability. A minimal goodwill gesture was offered, which did not reflect the extent of the issues experienced. Overall, this felt far from a luxury experience. You are paying premium prices but receiving a level of service that does not justify it. I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience.
• Sharon (6/5): Not great value for money - The estate is beautiful and the rooms are clean and in good condition. The cotton mill spa was very basic, not as clean and not much space for guests. For a spa hotel I was a bit disappointed that upgrading to the club is essential for a good and relaxing experience. There also wasn’t any availability for booking treatments and I wish I had been made aware that pre booking is the only way to get a treatment. The biggest annoyance however was the fact that there was a big event (wedding?) with very loud music that I could experience in my room and going to bed at 10pm as I had planned, was impossible. The music only stopped at 12:30am. The rooms were also not soundproof at all, I was able to hear my neighbors constantly. When I book a spa hotel stay I expect to be relaxed, not stressed. And would have liked to be made aware of this as I would have definitely cancelled my booking. I honestly wish I had stayed home and taken a bath instead. The food was also not particularly good and made my stomach quite upset.

Everything from the immediately calming atmosphere, to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, the gorgeous clean sound-proof rooms, to the delicious food - my friend and I couldn't fault the entire experience. We opted for the Club experience and couldn't recommend it more. We spent what must have been hours in the hydrotherapy pool and surrounding hot tubs and could have stayed forever. We booked in an upper body massage each, and the only slight falter of the stay was that a mix-up had occurred and our bookings did not show up on the system. However, this was immediately rectified with solutions and apologies and it did not impact our experience whatsoever. The massage itself, my first ever, was phenomenal. Expertly carried out by Carolina who made sure I was comfortable and at ease the whole time, and was very kind to talk to. Tension between my shoulder blades I had for ages has since disappeared, overall a very positive experience. We dined at Omboo restaurant, after the staff kindly accepted our request to swap our Brasserie dinner vouchers to this establishment. The vegetarian set menu was among some of the nicest food we've ever had dining out, every single small plate served to us was delicious and we will absolutely be returning. The manager, Francis, was very kind and conversational too, making for a great evening overall. We slept very well and enjoyed access to the spa in the early hours before most were awake, and this was where the peace and quiet of the secluded location was really felt best. Breakfast was delicious too, and we were taken aback by the sheer variety of food on offer. We chose to splash out on this spa break instead of a holiday this year, and I can confidently say you get what you pay for. We've missed it every day since leaving. A faultless experience, and we would love to return in future. Thank you to all who made it a great stay!

So welcoming, gave us a full tour and told us everything we need to know! Clara also served us in the lovely Omboo restaurant, the food and service was amazing. • E5287UUangelab (10/5): Afternoon Tea on Good Friday - Our daughter had booked herself a spa treatment package and she decided to book afternoon tea for me and my husband for my birthday present. It really is in lovely surroundings. The entrance is light, airy and comfortable. The room for afternoon tea has a high ceiling and is beautifully decorated in a tropical floral pattern and also light and airy. The tea offering was absolutely delicious. We had a glass of champagne with ours and it was a recognised brand poured in front of us. The tea was actual tea leaves and piping hot. I needed almond milk which was on offer. The sandwiches were fresh and really tasty and came in a good selection of flavours. The scones and hot cross bun (for Easter) were freshly baked and served with jam and cream. The little cakes were freshly made and not cloying. The chocolate slice not too sweet and not bitter. There was as much tea as we wanted. The waiting staff were attentive and checked if everything was acceptable. There were two young children having tea. One table had good manners and well-behaved the other not so much. There was a side room so it might be an idea to put young children in there rather than disturbing fellow guests who prefer to have peace and quiet to accompany their tea. But all in all, excellent quality and well worth the money.

Yes, as a venue it is a comfortable and visually pleasing location, but what really makes the difference is attention to detail and customer service. In the Orangery is a person who takes this to heart; Venkata Rama Krishna! Listening to customers, and responding in a thoughtful and honest way makes that difference -where you want to go back! (Now, for the chefs in the brasserie to please put the chocolate tarte back on the menu) The spa reception staff- thank you today for your help, patience and charm! These things are really appreciated.

We had afternoon tea which was very yummy and had lots of flavour. We used the spa facilities which is beautifully laid out and very clean. We stayed at the hotel too where we had a stunning room with the most comfiest bed to sleep on. The bathroom was modern and stylish too. We had breakfast this morning in the brassier which had lots of variety. This hotel is one of the prettiest I have visited in a long time where the staff are very helpful and welcoming. We had a particularly good lady who helped us (Val Hitchman) she was very professional, beautifully dressed and was on hand to make our day extra special. Would highly recommend this overnight stay and spa to all of my friends and can’t wait to go back in the near future.

I have had lots of Afternoon teas and I have to say this one was up there as on of the best and could rival any London hotel! Well priced also. The food was fresh, the cake selection to die for and the sandwich’s were a great selection flavour wise. They also catered very well for the two vegan guests in our group. Lovely setting and a lovely selections of tea too. I would definitely recommend.

We were made to feel incredibly at home, special thank you to Hannah 🫶🏻 All the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The room was gorgeous, clean and spacious, to say the least, with plenty of amenities available. We had a massage and access to all of the spa facilities. Can’t thank everyone enough for the service we received, this place is a must visit!
• debrad994 (8/5): Mostly excellent - Just returned from another stay at this lovely spa hotel, which was mostly very good. The hotel has been recently renovated to a very high standard, and both the new menu and decor in the Brasserie were impressive. The staff were excellent as always, and all of them go out of their way to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. The plush rooms have been stylishly designed with an impressive amount of storage space, comfy beds and pillows, great lighting ( unlike many hotels), and huge walk-in showers with Elemis toiletries. We only had two issues - we've been visiting as a group of 4 friends for the past ten years, and always book two interconnecting rooms. Unfortunately, this request had been missed by the booking team this time, and we were assigned rooms on different floors. The reception team did all they could to find us interconnecting rooms, but the best they could do was to find two rooms opposite each other. The other issue was that on our first night in the Brasserie, the atmosphere was not great due to a large group of film production guests making the restaurant feel more like a workspace than an upmarket spa hotel brasserie. They were working together on laptops at a large central table, and it really killed the ambience. It's not a cheap hotel, and we are used to it having a much more upmarket feel in the evenings. Luckily, they stayed away from the Brasserie on our second night, and we shared our thoughts with the Brasserie manager, Amelia, who did a great job at reassuring us that if they did show up, she would make sure they weren't seated near us and would share our comments with the hotel manager. She handled the issue really well and did a great job alongside our waiter, Jacob. Perhaps management should consider a 'no laptops' rule for evening meals, or just put groups in a separate room if they want to work.

The Club at Cottonmill spa facilities are top quality, and the massages we received were absolutely fantastic. We loved having multiple high-end restaurants to choose from, (our meal at Omboo was incredible) and the cocktails in the bar were expertly crafted. From the spa to the dining, to the breakfast delivered to the room. Every detail was spot on.
• Emmagriff30 (8/5): Great but a few minor things… - Booked a 1 night stay as a treat staying in a Mews Suite which included access to The Cottonmill Club Spa. We arrived at around 12 to make full use of the spa. Our room wasn’t ready but we were aware of this. The spa is excellent if you use the cottonmill club. I wouldn’t visit just to use the standard spa as it isn’t worth it in my opinion. Our room was ready just after 2pm but we made the most of the spa. The check in staff were very friendly and showed us to our room, where everything was. There were a few things missing for the high cost of this room which has stopped me giving the full 5 stars. There are complimentary drinks in the fridge, including glass bottles of Coke, beer etc. However there was no bottle opener in the room which seemed odd so we had to phone reception for this. It took about 20 minutes to arrive. Also, none of the USB plugs worked in the room we were staying in which was irritating for charging phones etc. Everything else was great. Lovely breakfast, friendly staff, and great spa if you use the club!

• rbegum22 (6/5): Average - I recently stayed at Sopwell House for one night to celebrate a birthday. I initially booked a Plush Room for £319, paid an additional £15 for a birthday cake and also added breakfast to the booking. On arrival, we were told we had been given a Chic Room instead. This was presented as an upgrade, but when we got to the room it felt very small and quite underwhelming. It honestly made me question the difference between the room categories, as it did not feel like an upgrade at all. The hotel itself is really nice. The grounds are lovely and the overall atmosphere feels relaxing and well maintained. However, to pay over £300 for one night, especially when check in is at 3pm and check out is at 11am the next day, does not give you a huge amount of time to fully enjoy the facilities. Another disappointment was the spa access. Despite paying over £300 for one night, we only had access to the Cotton Mill spa facilities. To use the Club Spa, we were told it would cost an additional £120 per person, which I found quite shocking given the overall price of the stay. The spa facilities that were included were fairly basic, just a standard swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna, and did not feel particularly special or luxurious. From what we saw and heard, the Club Spa is probably the best part of the hotel and looks like the highlight of the experience. However, it being an additional charge on top of an already expensive stay was disappointing. I do think there should be more affordable options for overnight guests who want to enjoy that part of the hotel. Breakfast was included and was decent enough, with the usual options such as scrambled eggs and standard hot breakfast items. It was not bad, but it was nothing particularly memorable. Unfortunately, the birthday cake in the room also missed the mark. Although I had clearly requested “Happy Birthday” on the note, it arrived saying “Congratulations,” which was disappointing given it was meant to be a special celebration. Overall, we did have a nice stay and it is a really nice hotel. However, for the price paid, it simply did not feel worth it. I expected a more luxurious experience, better value for money and more attention to detail, especially for a birthday occasion.

From the moment we stepped through the entrance door until the moment left, we were made to feel so welcome by the many friendly and courteous staff. • 81ambreenj (10/5): The perfect burn out reset - Myself and my sister managed to co-ordinate our annual leave from the NHS together, Carla was exceptional and went above and beyond to ensure we can enjoy our planned annual leave at the spa. She was extremely pleasant and took her time to arrange a package at the club spa that fitted our leave! We are so grateful Carla did this for us as we thoroughly enjoyed our experience! It was well needed from the burn out, one day at the club spa has reset us both! The facilities are excellent and hygiene is immaculate, the big plus for me was the spa was not overcrowded as they are careful how many numbers to allow on any given day. This maximised the experience as we got to use the spaces freely and didn’t have to wait. There are too may favourite spaces in the spa to name one, but we thoroughly enjoyed the indoor / outdoor hydro pool. Thanks again to Carla for making this experience happen for us x

• Jenna (8/5): Gorgeous stay - We visited for our anniversary and the staff were all exceptional, so many of them went out of their way to wish us happy anniversary and they had put some lovely little touches in our room. We arrived at midday as we'd seen we could use the spa facilities from then, before checking in time at 3pm. Luckily our room was already ready so we got to settle in, wander around the grounds and explore before heading to the spa. We had lunch at the Conservatory which was nice and simple and dinner at Omboo which was great, a really lovely atmosphere and deliciously flavoured food. We also had some cocktails at the Octagon bar which was cosy and relaxed. We stayed in a chic room in the main house which was a nice size, very comfortable and quiet with views over the grounds. There was a good selection at breakfast, the scrambled eggs were incredible! Although I'd advise getting there before 9am as it got a lot busier after this time. We stayed on a Saturday and didn't have access to The Club at Cottommill which was fine by us. Cottonmill though did get busy after 3pm and there was no seating around the pool area available after this time. Also there were limited vegetarian options available for lunch and dinner at the restaurants, which is why we chose to eat at Omboo which had more selection. The Brasserie only has 2 mains options, one being a burger and the other seemed pretty unusual so something to consider if you don't eat meat or fish.

I rarely post negative reviews, but after giving Sopwell House over a week to respond to my concerns, I feel it’s necessary to warn others before booking. Sadly, my experience was so disappointing that I can no longer remain silent. Despite following the hotel’s recommended complaint process, I’ve received no response or meaningful resolution—so here’s my full account. 1. Unacknowledged Complaint After raising a formal complaint during my stay, I was assured by the spa manager that it would be looked into. I also spoke to reception, who reiterated the same promise of addressing the issue. Over a week later, I still haven't received any acknowledgment or follow-up, which shows a complete disregard for guest feedback. 2. Unprofessional Spa Experience My husband and I booked the same treatment for our spa visit on 8 August 2025. While my therapist was thoughtful and asked about my comfort levels, my husband's therapist didn’t engage with him at all. After just 4 minutes, my husband had to leave due to discomfort. To make matters worse, I overheard a conversation between the therapist and a staff member (Danielle) discussing my husband inappropriately in the hallway. These comments were unprofessional, disrespectful, and entirely inappropriate in front of guests. 3. Misleading Promotional Offers I received an email promoting a “Treatment of the Month” with a complimentary self-care gift worth £87. When I expressed interest, I was told there were no therapists available for this treatment. Why send out such a promotion without ensuring availability? It felt like a marketing gimmick with no substance behind it. 4. No Recognition of Special Occasion Our stay was for our anniversary, but no gestures were made to acknowledge this. No small touches like complimentary upgrades or even a simple gesture to make the occasion feel special. This was incredibly disappointing, especially for a so-called “premium” hotel. 5.

It was magical - especially being in and outside hot tub in the thick of winter! The spa facilities are amongst the best i've been to. All the staff were exceptional - i'd like to give a special mention to Quentin in Omboo who helped us chose the perfect celebratory meal. Very well done to the General Manager for running such a friendly and luxury destination

Very friendly and helpful. We were escorted to the Brasserie where we were greeted really well. We were early so could choose our table. All the staff were superb, attentive and professional. The 'experience' menu was small but well chosen so we were very happy with our selection. The Marie Rose sauce on the prawn cocktail was excellent and prawns were large. The rump steak was cooked perfectly and really was as tender as a fillet. Overall this was a really good experience and made better by our waiter, Jack. Young and enthusiastic, he made our evening.
• Salima (9/5): Sopwell christmas stay - Food was lovely...staff helpful...prices to stay have gone up though which is a shame as i am a regular visitor to sopwell with my daughter as a christmas treat but feel it is too pricey now to stay..... The price increase and not having a bath in our room....we had coffee pods in the room but no coffee machine to use them...our tv wasnt working...had to call reception to get a maintenance man to fix it but then the same thing happened the next morning which was annoying.

• chiefy134 (10/5): New Years Eve 2 night stay. - After much research four of us (2 couples) made one of the best decisions we could have made, booking a 2 nights Mews Suite break inclusive of the NYE celebration in the St Albans Suite. It ticked all our boxes - no minimum table size, a live dance band and fireworks at midnight. We'd stayed in the mews before, and yes it's not cheap, but comparable to multiple other properties I researched, and for what we got, we thought it was value for money. Some of the quietest rooms we've ever slept in, extremely well appointed in every way, plus of course the all important access to the Club part of the Spa (still one of the best spa areas around). The NYE function itself was in our opinion outstanding. Not a word I use lightly, but we couldn't fault a thing - free flowing champagne reception with excellent canapés followed by a high quality 4 course dinner, accompanied by very good wines. The band and lady singer in particular were superb (maybe a few more soul type songs next year please), the dance floor packed, and the midnight fireworks a perfect way to end the evening. Service was faultless and its clear the function team at Sopwell know what they are doing. New Year's Day spent in The Club spa was just perfect. We all agreed, we would look to return next year for more of the same. Thank you everyone at Sopwell House.
