Guest Reviews
- Lenaura (4/5): - Other reviewers have mentioned room number 5, which is where I stayed. It’s in the attic.
The room was very clean but hot to the point of being unbearable.
There was a very inadequate portable air conditioner. With temperatures in the high 20s it’s really important to invest in good appliances and the air conditioner did nothing to lower the room temperature.
The fridge was empty, no water supplied until a member of staff came up to sort a minor problem with the shower and a bottle of water and ice was brought up when he realised how hot the room was.
The shower attachment was loose so the water sprayed out and the taps in the sink were loose.
Not a great experience overall.
- Chris (8/5): - Nice stay very very warm in the rooms. If it’s a quiet room you are after this isn’t the place when you are on the beer garden side. A nice problem to have in summer!
- Jeffrey (10/5): - I would really recommend this pub for your stay in Oxford.
The room I had was decent and the food i ate both in the evening (it has a predominant seafood menu with specials) and breakfast was excellent.
The staff were friendly and accommodating, even when they were busy.
- mary (2/5): - Extremely disappointed with our stay due to excessive noise, had to phone dosn after midnight asking it to stop, not a good idea of staff holding a party whilst you have paying guests staying.
Particularly chose separate rooms so as to get a good night sleep which we certainty didn't get.
- Timon (6/5): What a shame - Lovely room... and rating would have been much higher - but there was no hot water at 11pm - no one to contact...and no reply to my email mentioning this.
- Philip (10/5): - This property is an old building , and it was perfect. The staff were very friendly. The food was excellent. It was situated perfectly for what we needed.
- Janet (8/5): - Staff are very friendly and helpful; Location is perfect for visiting Blenheim Palace; Restaurant serves good food and wine.
Parking is an issue here.
- Gareth (6/5): Cramped room. Lovely restaurant. - Room was in the eaves of the roof. Extremely steep steps with poor headroom. The room & bathroom also was very small with poor headroom. The restaurant was lovely with great food. If there was a nicer more spacious room I would stay again, but not in the room I was in.
- NEIL (10/5): Loved the pub and woodstock xx - Uber fanatics pub and rooms , a real buzz about the place , happy smiling staff and people
- steve (10/5): - Good Central bolthole
- steve (10/5): - Fire and food in house
- Judith (8/5): - The Woodstock arms is a warm and welcoming pub. The room was cramped with al
Most no space at all to unpack a smallł case. But we managed. The bed was comfortable. Shower not great. The room could do with a paint job and the shower took a long time to get warm. Tea making facilities were good. Breakfast is fine if you’re a meat and eggs eater. There is almost nothing on the menu for those who might like cereal, yogurt, fruit. Staff
Were friendly and helpful. Altogether a happy stay in a very nice small town.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Lovely pub close to everything and great service
- Craig (10/5): Woodstock for Blenheim - Very convenient hotel for visiting Blenheim Palace. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel room was clean and pleasant. Woodstock is a cute village.
- Robert (6/5): - Room very small
- Lee (10/5): Cute place to stay in Woodstock. - Great stay, fab breakfast. Room was tiny but adequate. The room key was huge which was annoying but other than that a great stay
- Rajiv (8/5): - 👏
- Gareth (8/5): - .
- caroline (10/5): - very quaint.
- Julian (8/5): - Good food could have had A/C however the fan was a god send because it was so hot at night the staff were very friendly and so were the people in Woodstock I would stop there again
- Bernadette (6/5): - For the price wasn’t worth it the room I had was so small like match box and the view was of the pub garden noise smell from the kitchen, but the staff were lovely .
- Adrian (10/5): - Great location and fabulous service. Breakfast was excellent … room was excellent value for the price.
- clive (10/5): - We had a great stay in a lovely room, the service was excellent from all the staff and the breakfast was delicious, we would certainly recommend.
- Angela (10/5): Lovely pub - Lovely pub- great breakfast- friendly staff
- Martin (6/5): - Had to miss breakfast which was not available until 9am,which seemed late?
And on leaving was unable to get out through the pub because it was locked!!!! And had to find our way out through a back alley.
- Simon (4/5): - Despite a warm and polite welcome and a pleasant/compact room for a single person, the Woodstock Arms is not suitable for the business traveller. Breakfast isn't available until 9 and there are no alternatives offered, there are coat hooks but no hangars for shirts and suits etc, I had to clean the coffee cups and the teaspoon which appeared to have dried food on it. No TV remote control in the room but a second visit to ask at the bar yielded a replacement. There was considerable noise from the bar until around 1115 pm which is understandable but once again, not suitable for someone who has to get up early for work.
- Marc (10/5): Birthday treat - Lovely break away for the wife's birthday, Cosy room with very comfy bed and the usual small en-suite facilities.
The staff were great, so friendly and helpful and the food was great. Woodstock is a lovely village with several nice pub`s.
The only minor complaint would be the sneaky 12.5% service chanrge added to our food and drinks bill, although that could be just that I missed it on a menu, still with a pricey menu an added charge seemed a bit much.
- Shuv (4/5): Give it a miss - Nice looking place inside, very dark and smelly walk way leading to the stairs to the rooms. Room was Just ok at a push. Stained carpets, no shower door with mould, shower gel dispensers empty. Tea and coffee poor selection and no milk. Breakfast served from 9am in the week. Not great.
- Paul (4/5): Not for business - Awful for a business trip. My room was right above the bar and it was so noisy. Was tempted to book as it offered a free breakfast only to find (on arrival) it was only available from 9am. What is the point?! Lesson learned.
- bradley (10/5): - Fantastic stay and couldn’t recommend it more. All staff were friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The food was seriously good and the pub cosy. Perfect for an evening next to an open fire.
- DEWI (6/5): - Staff were excellent , but one shower door was missing and a big partch of bedroom carpet was soaking wet.
- Maggie (10/5): - It’s quaint, lovely and so near Blenheim Palace.
Would definitely stay again
- Christina (10/5): - We stayed for just one night to visit Blenheim Palace which is an easy walk from the hotel. Comfortable room with good linen and bed etc. Staff really friendly and efficient. Food available was well prepared and tasty and there was plenty of choice. Breakfast was fresh and well presented. Would stay again
- Andrew (8/5): - The room was adequate for one nights stay, not enough space for clothes & suitcase.Linen & towels excelent.
- Joanne (10/5): - Very charming place to stay
Food and staff excellent
Would highly recommend
- Chan (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly but professional staff, good service and excellent breakfast.
- Allison (10/5): - Lovely little village, food excellent and very helpful staff.
- Paul (8/5): - The service and food were excellent, the Staff very welcoming and the bar had a lovely friendly atmosphere.
Unfortunately the room was disappointing. Too many minor issues adversely impacted our stay. There was no bed remaking, replenishment of tea making items or crockery on 2nd day. En-suite needs attention.
- david (10/5): Lovely - Lovely pub and rooms
Duty manager Dave was helpful and polite would recommend
- Lynn (6/5): - Lovely place and near blenheim palace which we were visiting. A bit expensive on food and drinks, but nice food . Only thing the last bill was £7.18 dearer for some reason.
- jaqueline (10/5): Great stay - A excellent stay . There was great food on offer . Very attentive staff in a lovely old pub.
- Wendy (4/5): - We were unfortunately given room 5 which was a room in the eaves.
It was a hot day and the combination of heat and ceiling height made the room feel very claustrophobic and uncomfortable.
Basic, uncomfortable and cramped!
- Hume (8/5): Woodstock Arms - New landlord just moved in but so friendly, even the public in the bar were friendly!
Very pretty village
- Lucia (8/5): - I really enjoyed my stay at the Woodstock Arms! The room was comfortable, stylish and quiet and the food, both at dinner and breakfast, was excellent! The service throughout was great - friendly, helpful and welcoming! There were a few organisational issues, caused by recent management changes, but they did nothing to spoil a really lovely visit!
- Julie (10/5): Great quirky hotel - Lovely hotel, lovely friendly welcome and excellent food. Great location and nice courtyard in the back. The room was lovely and clean albeit a little hot (being right at the top with just a small window). Very powerful shower and comfortable bed. Would definitely stay again. Not a bad price for this area.
- Michael (6/5): - Bar closed at 10
- Philip (4/5): - Expensive night- small room and no breakfast
- Carl (10/5): - Lovely pub nice rooms
- Julie (8/5): - The room was nice and adequately priced. The Inn is quaint. The service was under-whelming. The staff have no concept of customer service or hospitality. The restaurant food is ordinary and bland and the service made it the more blatant.
- Mary (8/5): Two night stay - A good central location. A lovely old Inn with clean and comfortable room. Parking is limited but helpful staff directed us to a local car park. The staff in the bar and restaurant were friendly and very helpful. The quality of food served was good.
- David (8/5): Lovely room, parking a nightmare - Lovely clean, comfy room. Staff very pleasant.
Parking was a bit of a nightmare- there is 3 hour on street parking right outside the pub which we eventually managed to get into. However we were staying overnight so we’re a bit worried about getting a fine but the staff advised that wardens don’t normally check (and to be fair, we were ok overnight). All parking in Woodstock is 1 or 3 hour, apart from a small 12 hour car park which we tried but couldn’t find a space. The town gets crowded on event days…..
- Peter (10/5): - Great location, iconic historic pub and fantastic staff.
- J (6/5): Almost great but not quite - The pub itself is lovely, really old and quaint but the rooms are not up to standard for the price paid. Our room in the eaves was extremely tiny and the layout not well thought out. With just a little extra careful storage additions the room would have been much more comfortable. There was no room cleaning and our tea/coffee not topped up or cups washed. The TV only had 4 obscure channels. There was no hairdryer and only 2 very feeble hangers on an very low rail and the blind was broken. A mirror above the sink and a light over the mirror would have made all the difference. The bed however, was really comfy and the room beautifully quiet at ngiht once the pub was closed. The breakfast was excellent and standard of food good but it was a shame this was not included as it did make for a very expensive stay especially considering the quality of the room. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and it is a shame that we came away feeling a little disatsfied as it would take very little to bring the standards up. The rooms are decorated nicely and fittings of good quality but just a little more thought and care is needed.
- Robert (2/5): - Although looking picturesque on the web site the property is in poor condition and the rooms far from deluxe.
TV not working and bathroom sub standard.
No servicing on room for second night and double charged on VISA requiring time to sort.
Staff socially inept - on complaining , result was laughter and a shrug of the sholulders AVOID
- Lauria A (6/5): - The bar at the hotel is very good. There was a small problem with a shower in that it flooded the bar so we weren't able to shower. The bar staff was superb.
- D (4/5): Not worth the money. Better value elsewhere. - Room 1 was quite cramped. TV was not working, and dust/ cobwebs present. Bar food was excellent. Cooked breakfast was good but there was no fruit juice or cereal offered or included with the £14 price. I was asked to pay extra for a tea and indifferent (instant) coffee but declined.
- Russell (8/5): Nice but a few things need attention - Nice room but just starting to show signs of ware. Clothes hook loose on the bathroom door, sink would not empty because the plug was broken and bed side lamps was loose.
- Paul (8/5): - Perfect location central in the town & reasonable cost. Attractive Cotswolds pub which could draw in more customers with open fires and comfy chairs and sofas which are sorely lacking in Woodstock and such a missed opportunity. The pub food could have been better and a little bit of bathroom maintenance would have improved the standard of the room. Our stay was fine but a little attention to a few details would take the Woodstock Arms to another level!
- Charles (10/5): Good karma - Pub with old worl charm, warm and inviting. Veryy friendly and helpful staff. Excellent meals. Looking forward too coming back.
- Ann (8/5): - Very nice place wirh loads of character all the staff very friendly & helpful one downside was the cost of drinks in the bar very expensive.
- DAVID (10/5): - Grateful to staff for late check in👍
- Chris (10/5): Great Woodstock Arms - Had a realy fantastic weekend here.
Friendly staff, great food and lovly rooms.
Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - When I arrived late in the evening, the staff were all accomodating, friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and really comfortable. The pub downstaors was a great place to grab a drink and breakfast was included and delicious. Perfect location in woodstock. Would highly recommend!
- Matthew (8/5): Woodstock Arms - Stay didn't get off to a good start as room hadn't been cleaned when I checked in (after 5pm). Luckily I was heading straight out so it didn't really impact me. Duty manager was welcoming and suitably apologetic. Room was quite small and at the top of a narrow staircase, but this is the historic centre of Woodstock so no real surprise. If accessibility is important you will need to check with the property. The bed was comfortable though. The best part of the stay was the great breakfast. I had the full English but there was a good choice, and the service was also very good. Overall, I would definitely stay again.
- Laura (6/5): Room too small, hot and noisy. - We had 2 nights booked here during a very hot week. We advised the staff that we were unable to stay in the attic room allocated to us as it was unbearably hot. We were offered another room on the floor below. The staff were very helpful and the heat was out of their control and difficult to manage in an old building. The room we stayed in was still stifling even with the windows open and the fan on. The room was tiny with just enough room for a small double bed and one bedside table. The beer garden was directly behind the room making the room very noisy until 11pm. The staff were friendly and helpful and we had 2 very nice breakfasts.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice, clean staff very friendly, hotel room Itself very small.
- Chan (10/5): Gemstone of Woodstock. - Very comfortable, clean, friendly staff and great service.
- Gareth (8/5): - Restaurant excellent. Service and friendliness very good. Room quality ok. Maid very happy to help.
- CHRISTOPHER (10/5): Safe and happy in Woodstock - team are taking Covid very seriously....absolutely NO drinks after 10.00 pm even to residents. I respect their actions. Room was small but VERY clean but a bit warm. Bed very comfortable. Staff very friendly especially the Manageress. Breakfast super.
- John (10/5): wowed at the Woodie! - A fabulous place to stay and the room was so comfortable. Cracking breakfast and the staff are so friendly.
- David (6/5): Average - Check in was very poor and as was service in the restaurant at Breakfast so avoided it for dinner.
Distinct lack of staff on a busy weekend when Blenheim Palace was lit up for Christmas.
If you want good service and food go to the Indian a few metres away.
- Steve (8/5): Comfortable stay - Very enjoyable stay with comfortable room and nice food.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Liked the location. Good breakfast. Room dirty and in poor condition.
- Patricia (10/5): - Cosy room, big enough for one night. Excellent food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely pub, good food and very nice food. Woodstock is a extremely picturesque on the doorstep of Blenheim Palace
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Proper great pub stay. Nice room(we had a delux), great food(tho not cheap), great beer and fire burning away. B& B prices great value.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location, breakfast not bad but fried eggs cooked in too hot fat. Room 5 is in the eaves which made it very cramped
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location in Woodstock was great. Breakfast was lovely. Good staff. Especially Demi
