Guest Reviews
- James (3/5): Unrestful . - Location was near to where I needed to go. If you wanted to learn how to sleep on bed springs stay there. had to go to office to get soap.
- Patti (10/5): Great motel for a young family and a working man. Family running it are exceptional. - This quaint little motel was perfect for my needs. The lovely family running was exceptional. The scenery was beautiful and the town was adorable. Not a thing
- Williamson (6/5): Good place to crash for the night - The owner or operator was very nice. He was very prompt when we needed something. There is a sign for Coffee and Ice, but they do not provide either. They should provide coffee. Or at least remove the sign.
- Jiang (2/5): - Too dirty, so bad odor, load noise
- Betsy (4/5): Out of the way location for an outdated facility. - The owners were very nice. I accidentally booked for a day before I needed it. Concerned that I hadn't shown, they called. They very generously changed my reservation to the following night. The motel is VERY rundown. The water has an odor, as does the room. Towels were obviously very old and thin. I hope they are able to update everything.
- Kevin (4/5): - I was really hoping that the accommodations would be adequate after checking in- the front desk person was very nice and a good vibe overall. The room definitely needed some tending to. Positives- the bed was comfortable and clean, the room itself was clean. Negatives, the air condition was really loud, even in a low mode, the “clean filter” was flashing and the front panel was hanging off, the mini fridge did not work, one of the wash clothes had a dark stain on it, and worst of all, I spotted a roach in the bathroom. Kind of really gross.
- Richard (2/5): - Stains everywhere. Dozems of dead flies. Noisy ineffectual a/c.
- Virginia (1/5): We did not stay we did not even park - Upon arrival we did not even park…pictures are very discieving… looked as though people were living there very unsettling environment The appearance of the property was concerning… besides the upkeep in general it was very unsettling
- Dino (2/5): - 50 years ago this motel was probably state-of-the-art. Now it’s in a state of disrepair. Stay away from this place unless you have no other choice. It was so dirty that my wife and I both decided to skip showers and make sure we wore our slippers everywhere we walked in that ridiculously dirty and unkept unit. A rating of 1 does not do this place justice. Negative numbers would be more accurate.
- Catherine (7/5): the outside didn’t look kept up so I was concerned, but once I close my door inside my room, the ro - The staff was very accommodating and very polite Next door to the family that owns or runs the motel so it got rather noisy through the connecting door
- Carl (8/5): - Phone in room was not working
- Pamela (8/5): - This is an old motel meant for a place to sleep. It is not fancy or made for social celebrations or business meetings
So it is plain, reasonably comfortable, and a bit more affordable. You need to decide what is important to you.
- Stanley (1/5): never again - no breakfast bed bugs
- Karen (10/5): - Close to shopping, dinning and Casino
- Ken (8/5): Nice Old motel in a nice little community - It was a quiet, old roadside motel. Good for my trip with just a bed for an overnight stop.
- Kristen (7/5): Good - Tv not working
- Tricia (10/5): - The owner was very pleasant
And helpful and it was convenient to where I was visiting
- Charles (6/5): - Clean, average motel room, quiet environment, air conditioning needs some work but overall a pleasant stay
- Colette (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (1/5): Bedbugs! Dirty place. - The Location is good. This place is infested with bedbugs. It also dirty. Looks like they don't change bedsheets between guests. And they don't return money even if you don't stay. Booking.com doesn't help.
- Robert (8/5): Very good - No breakfast. Nice location.
- Aaron (3/5): Poor -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Wayne (7/5): Fairly well accommodations - The cleanliness of the room. The mattress was too hard.
- Hall (2/5): Very poor -
- Daley (1/5): Would never stay there again. - Just the location. The place was not clean and very old and outdated. Everything about the place was bad except the location
- Upendra (1/5): Worst experience in all my lifetime. Bed bugs, stinky and whiteness in the carpet - It’s not really breakfast. Don’t give false hope to anyone Muffins are bad
- John (1/5): Bad -
- Angel (6/5): - I liked the country setting
- Eric (6/5): - While the staff were quite pleasant, the room wasn't clean. The shower curtain had mildew on it and both chairs in the room were filthy. Bad enough I literally turned them upside down to remind myself not to sit on them. The only good thing was no sign of bugs.
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Sally (6/5): partial slay - It did what it had to do. Was only there for one night. Happy that there was a room left when we needed. The water tasted weird.
- Crystal (7/5): Close enough to downtown Owego (a very nice little town) without being in the middle of it. - The owners live on site and were very pleasant and helpful. They are not serving breakfast due to COVID. Most of the time the internet was not working in my room.
- Wayne (7/5): Excelelnt accomodation for the reasonable cost. - Breakfast did not exist. I knew this before I made my reservations. Thus, I prepared for this. I brought a bag of bagels and some granola bars. Plus somthing to drink. This suited me fine.
The room, while dated, was clean and well kept. The bed was neat and the blankets and sheets were very clean. The staff were very good to talk to and very helpful in answering any question that I had. I'm not very technically inclined and one staff member came to my room to help me on one occasion.
I will gladly stay there again.
The rural setting of the Sunrise Motel is very nice. It has a very substantial lawn. It is very quiet and not much traffic. The walk I took was along the local road with very little traffic and very enjoyable for a country walk, which I do not often get a chance to take. To be honest I can not think of any major issues. Oh yes. I thought of one. The door locks have been well used and on the door of this room, were wearing down.
For over 25 years I often had to travel for my job. I have stayed at much inferior places. My opinion is that this motel has suffered from the Covid 19 pandemic shut down and will recover. This is a good place to stay.
What I did not care for was the comment by a previous guest that the shower was spilling over the side because the curtain did not close properly. This person could easily have moved the nozzle of the shower and pointed it a bit toward the rear of the shower stall. Problem solved. I tried this and it worked. No spilling.
- Patric (1/5): Bad -
- Susan (7/5): Good - Location was out of the way. There was no breakfast.
- Lasser (8/5): Friendly and welcoming hosts. - The welcome of the staff! They also made the cable work for us even though it was quite late at night.
- John (1/5): It was so bad, left after one night of a two night stay. - Nothing That you Booking.com had this listing with ok reviews. I will never use Booking.com again. It was that bad.
- Stefan (3/5): Poor -
- Kamran (10/5): Amazing experience. Beautiful area and wonderful service by reception - Staff service Smoke smell in the room
- Bryan (8/5): Very good -
- Neal (9/5): Superb -
- Joshua (9/5): Brief stay but an excellent experience. - Spacious room and large bed. Friendly staff and check in and out was quick and easy process. The bathroom was a little bit on the smaller side and needed some work, the AC unit was a little banged up but we managed to get it to work.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Paula (1/5): Bad -
- Julie (6/5): - No water pressure and no breakfast
- John (8/5): - The facilities were older but comfortable. The bathroom was small but adequate. Staff was helpful and friendly.
- Rabih (8/5): - the Sunrise was easy to reach, and the check-in and check out where easy and smooth.
the unit was nice, with all the amenities.
- Jason (4/5): - Stained furniture, stained towels, stained shower floor. No cold water, weak water pressure.
- Thomas (6/5): - I have stayed here before, it is showing it's age and there are "permanent" residents besides overnight guests. It is very basic but convenient to my destination.
- Chao (2/5): - Bedding is ok. But, the bathroom is terrible. Dirty shower set, and the shower drain clogged. Standing in the fungus pool to finish the shower. Two feet itched for days.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The place was nice and quiet. The room was clean although the shower could use an upgrade.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - older rundown motel, needs updating but served it's purpose for a place to sleep
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great plase. Looks like you and mother-nature around.
- Michele (10/5): Good value for the price - Good value for the price. Room nice size. Bed comfortable. Heat & hot water shower working. Carpet was a bit beat. Walls were not noise blocking. Blanket had some holes. Had fridge & microwave. No coffee or breakfast that I know of.
- Debbie (4/5): - We were very disappointed in the service there. Not once did they come to the room to refreshen up or bring new towels or take garbage out. We had to buy garbage bags and go get clean towels.
- Robert (8/5): Ok for a short stay - This is an older motel, they keep it clean . There is a frig. in the room and they have internet. The bathroom is newer and very clean. I will stay there again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The air conditioning and TV did not work. The bed was uncomfortable and the smoke alarm beeped all night. I won't be back.
- Gabriele (4/5): Won't stay again - Room: Shower tile seperating from the wall. Beds: Mattress very old and worn out. Sheets had holes
and were so worn out they wouldn't stay on the bed. One set had stains that make me wonder if
they were washed after the last visitor. And no coffee, 2 mile drive to get some.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Old and in disrepair. Not well maintained.
Clean but an eyesore.
- Soumadip (8/5): No frills basic motel - It is a small motel in owego. We stopped here in the night. The reception was good. The room was basic and had microwave and refrigerator. The room was a bit dated and we don't have any complaints for a night stay.
- Sharron (8/5): - The owner went out of her way to help. Missed not having coffee and tea facilities in the room.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Terrible service, staff was indifferent. Terrible, awful, obtuse.
- Richard (8/5): - The Motel is 60s vintage but upgraded with small refrigerator and microwave. It is on the west outskirts of Owego in a quiet rural setting. There is coffee and tea and orange juice in the morning. Also paistries but no fruit or anything else in the morning. The owner was very nice. AC worked OK on a very hot weekend when we were there. Room was clean. Would stay here again.
- Paul (10/5): - Manager friendly and helpful. Pretty town. Perfect location for travelling about twelve miles to play at Bluegrass festival at Newark Valley.
- Steven (6/5): Only if you need a room desperately - Heat was not good and shower was not hot
- Anthony (4/5): Out of towner - I had a 2 day reservation and got a bad feeling about the place upon check in. She asked for my credit card and charged me UP FRONT FOR THE TWO DAYS. I had a bad feeling from that very moment. Room was totally basic, minimalist style. Water pressure for the shower was the equivalent of someone urinating. And the bed? The mattress was hard and HORRIBLE. Pillows? Felt like towels folded up in a pillowcase.
- Sandra (8/5): Wonderful Day - Hotel in a nice quiet area. Plenty of parking. Close to town with much to see like the stores and walking along the Susquehanna River. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. I would come back again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Pleasant stay for the price. Would stay again. Excellent staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very nice - Excellent for the price
Excellent television network
- George (8/5): Very nice Location - This was a ideal location for us when we went to Concert at Tioga Downs Casino on August 19,2017 only 7 miles away we enjoyed our stay owner was very nice & helpful.
- Sunrise Motel (6/5): Old fashion Mom and Pop motel - Convient to Toda Downs. Could use some new towels and firmer beds but ok for price and purpose.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Old, in disrepair, dirty - Nasty dirty. Mold in bathroom. Vomit stains on bed. Door and walls in terrible disrepair .
- J (2/5): I would not stay again - The woman we spoke with and greeted us was pleasant, that is where the complements end. Based on the room we had, the motel is dated, and in need of much repair .First it was suppose to be non-smoking, not sure it was it. the room was musty and had a hint of cigarette smoke. The room was very warm, I tried the air conditioner, but turn it off immediately, very musty, very old unit which needs cleaning or replacing. Pulled back bedspread on one of the beds to discover some red stains, (blood?), Various red stains splattered on the the walls around that bed. Wall outlet without protective plate. Lamp missing a bulb, bathroom shower in need of major cleaning. Floor board heater, disgusting! Refrigerator/microwave unplugged with no visible wall plug for either. Dresser has seen better days. Phone is disgusting. Chair near the dresser has pieces that are loose or broken. Bottom of the exterior door rusting. Bathroom window has a cracked. We arrive around midnight and had we not been traveling with another couple, we would have gone elsewhere or headed home. I did not sleep, bed uncomfortable, pillows wafer thin and room extremely warm.
- Mike (6/5): Older Motel - This is an older motel located just west of the downtown area. Family run. had no issue with noise, etc. Had good nights sleep all of my three night stay. The property could use some updating, but for the price it was about what I expected. The towels were clean and there was plenty of hot water for showers.
- Heather A (10/5): A charming stop for nostalgia buffs - This is a charming old style motel with a lovely vintage feel. The owner was so personable and helpful and we were even greeted at our door by the motel cat. Reminded me of traveling with my family as a kid. We arrived at night so it was a lovely surprise to see what a gorgeous town we had come to.
- PatriciaH2055 (8/5): Very nice - Very nice, clean room. Looks just like the pictures. Nice and quiet. Chairs to sit on outside. Went to Tioga Downs on July 1, 2017 to see 38 Special. Concert was canceled so went back to hotel to relax. Only 7 miles from Tioga Downs. I would go there again. Enjoyed my stay.
- Melani (8/5): Reasonable price - This is a no-frills motel, but the location was right near town and the rate was very reasonable for what you get. The bed was comfortable and there was a mini fridge and microwave in the room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice, decent hotel - Stay was comfortable and satisfactory. Very clean and quiet location. Room can use a little updating. But overall my stay was good.
- O3358MMcarolp (2/5): Find another place - The room had obvious mold that was covered over by a toxic smelling spray. It was pretty awful. The floor was damp and the bathroom had hair and dirt on the floor and in the tub. The toilet moved when you sat on it as all the caulking was broken out. Pretty horrid. Pay a little more and stay somewhere else. This place is AWFUL!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room was really old. Bed was uncomfortable. Lady was nice.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There were no updates to the hotel. No bathtub, only a shower.
- Michelle (8/5): Convenient - We enjoyed our stay. The price was decent and the owner was very nice. She was right there if we needed anything. We will stay there again when we go back to town.
- syedrezaulk (10/5): good motel - Its a clean motel. We are on the way to nj from Toronto. Found this on gps. Clean with good wifi and no outside noise. I like this motel. Microwave freeze heater available. Also a pop machine outside. Most of all clean toilet..
- Scherie (6/5): - It was ok could of been better
- Hilary (6/5): A nice place to stay - Sunrise Motel is an older motel, a mom-and-pop operation, a type we like to stay in. Yes, it's dated, but had all the amenities and was very clean. The owners live on the premises and were very nice. The location was about 2 miles out of the town of Owego and, although on a main route into town, was very quiet.
- Hil47 (6/5): A nice place to stay - This is an older motel, a mom-and-pop operation, just the kind of motel we like to stay in. Yes, it's dated but is very clean and has all the amenities...good wifi, a microwave, and refrigerator...in each room. It's just 2 miles out of the little town of Owego. Although it's on a main route into town, it's very quiet. The owners were very personable and helpful. One improvement could be to the breakfast, which was only packaged goods.
- 312patricial (6/5): good mom and pop - This is a mom and pop motel, older style, but suitable. Microwave and small frig and good desk to work or eat at. NO HD TV, but lots of channels; Breakfast continental food available but must take to room as no space in lobby to eat., coffee, juice and bananas were available the weekend I was there. Price was right for me; owner very helpful to me and friendly. Very quiet road so sleep was good. Yes, bathroom was small, but what do you need to do in the bathroom that requires lots of space?!. Water was hot and good stream from shower. Drapes could be updated and perhaps will be in time.
Second time I stayed here and I would stay again if in that area. If you want Holiday Inn -type accommodations, this is not for you, but if you want to support local, clean and friendly places, this is suitable.
- Sharon (10/5): Inexpensive hotel with helpful friendly staff - We checked in very late - 1 am - and the manager was quite helpful and welcoming. Easy to get to and park. It's an old motel, could use some updating, but very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was donuts, packaged danish, orange juice, and coffee. This was fine for the price. The manager brought us all some fresh bananas, too, which we were glad for!
- Mike (6/5): Local Motel - This is a family run motel that, I would guess, was built in the 50's before all the chains. It could use some updating in the rooms but they are fairly clean and the linens and towels were just fine. For the price it was just fine. The owners are very nice!
- Mark R. (4/5): One step above my tent. - Misleading customer reviews. Run down, uncomfortable mattress, no upkeep of shower, doors, windows. Tiny TV, no glasses or cups, no coffee machine, had to request towels. Lawn n landscape abandoned. After apathetic check in, invisible staff. We were the only patrons, denied free upgrade.
- Adam (8/5): Economical, roadside inn - Lovely little vintage hotel for those who may be nostalgic for a 1960s experience. The manager was very nice. For a hotel from this era, it was in good condition. It's an economy offering and perfect for a short stay. The nearby historic town of Owego is beautiful with the relaxed spirit of old New England.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good for an overnight, definitely wouldn't stay any longer than one night. Old motel, musty smelling, uncomfortable bed, very small bathroom.
- anneU2831HZ (6/5): Worked for me! - Was in town overnight for a funeral and just wanted a clean quiet place to park myself for the night. This is one of those older roadside motels - no frills but extremely clean. The bathroom was absolutely spotless. Bed was comfortable, pillows very firm, microwave, tv and two seater table. The couple that own it were pleasant and hospitable. I would definitely stay here again.
- leonj167 (6/5): Older Motel - inexpensive lodging. - Spent one night. Small room with a smaller bathroom. If claustrophobic don't take a shower! Barely enough room to turn around between the shower and wall. Room was basic. Clean carpet and comfortable & clean bed. No road noise. If looking for an inexpensive place to stay for a night while traveling it would work. No restaurants or facilities close by. All on the other side of town,. AAA sign in the front yard, but said they were no longer affiliated with AAA.
Staff was friendly. Older 60's vintage motel. Park at your front door. Single floor, Not handicap accessible. Advertised a continental breakfast... didn't see any where or anything to eat. Drove to McDonald's.
- johnkW1513MW (2/5): There are no words !!!!!!! - I hope my room was not the best they had. Was booked for two nights, doing a show in Owego. Stayed one night and left the key in the door, had it been summer I would have slept in the car. Has not been painted since they opened. Needed flip flops to walk around and shower with. Toilet didn't work right, slept in another set of clothes. Wouldn't put three week old food in fridge. Showed pictures to friends and response was , where the hell are you !!!!!. Could use this place in a horror movie. If my sponsor doesn't get her money back, I would call the health dept. Stay out of room # 119. Moved to Hamilton Hotels......Just like a castle.........John
- mrwuCamdenMe (2/5): scary shower - it was cheap..but shower curtain should have been thrown out a year ago..shower floor was scary..I wore flips..water pressure non existant,,beds were saggy but slept ok.one nite was quite enough..I left quick..and they had the nerve to charge another $10 plus tax for my teenager..come on...I am not picky.it takes a lot to get me to write a bad review...
- 440jeffr (6/5): What you pay for - The room is small, bathroom smaller. As a traveling salesman you stay where you need to be and try not to overspend. Place was older but clean, bed was fine and everything worked. Internet was very strong and consistent. Price was fair for what you got. The people behind the counter were quite nice.
- 887BarbH (10/5): Excellent - Our room was cleaned daily, I had lost my ring somewhere in the bed while sleeping. I was in a hurry so didn't have time to do more searching. Well that night I came back into room and there was a note and my ring. We grew up in owego and Sunrise is owego's history. We enjoyed our stay and will do it again
- seenewyorkstate (2/5): Dirty in bad shape. Took photos - I cleaned motel rooms when I saw this room I knew do a check. Filth under beds never cleaned inside dresser food particles smells of urine in bathroom . I went to Family Dollar bought sheets blankets pillows I won't use theirs.
