Guest Reviews
- Sheila (8/5): - We enjoy our stay at this place it was quirky. The bed was comfortable and the sink area was spacious. Wi-Fi was not available neither was food on site and we had to eat at a nearby hotel for breakfast and dinner which we’d included in our stay when booking.
- NitinKumar (10/5): - Amazing location. Somewhat Pricey for the facility but amazing all round
- Rajni (10/5): - If you are going to Sossusvlei/Dead Vlei, this is the perfect location to stay. It's 5km from the gate and worth the price. It's self-catering, but there is a lodge a few km down the road that offers dinner and breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious.
- Justin (10/5): Oasis in the desert - Nice modern place in the desert. Night sky is amazing!
- Roger (8/5): - There are 3 non-camping places to stay in Sossusvlei, Desert Camp, Desert Quiver and the Sossusvlei Lodge. They are all owned by the same company. All meals are taken at the Sossusvlei Lodge 2-3 kms down the road. There is no internet at Desert Quiver. There is a nice swimming pool but one needs to drive to it. The rooms are very nice, however. Since the dunes are one of the true Wonders of the World, who really cares about where they stay? The experience was a 10 though the Desert Quiver gets a 7.5.
- Michael (10/5): - Incredibly beautiful location and really enjoyable stay
- Matthias (8/5): - The chalets are very nice, clean and comfortable. The pool is great to enjoy a hot day. Staff is nice . Breakfast and dinner is available at the mainlodge, 5 km drive away , but easy to handle, food is served in very good quality . Breakfast even as early as 5:15 , which allows a very early start to Sossusvlei, which is desireable.
Please note, at the camp there is no wifi, only at the main lodge wifi is available. The Chalet does not have any utensils or dishes nor anything , this must be rented seperately , which we find troublesome , and we were not informed directly about this by the staff. A side point although , but the toilett in the chalet flushes very poorly . !!!
- marina (10/5): - Great location right outside park entrance. Nice vibe, friendly staff.
- marina (8/5): Beautiful location but... - It's a very nice camp, but they didn't advise us that they don't serve breakfast, nor dinner, in the camp: you have to take your car and drive 3 km. to Sossuvlei Lodge for meals... and they didn't put a fridge and not even a coffee machine in the rooms!
- Rodney (10/5): - Exceptionally clean free standing large cabins. Breakfast and dinner available at sister property 4km up the road. Very good food. Great pool and WiFi at pool / outdoor bar. Reasonably priced so good value!
- Frederic (10/5): - Amazon pool
- Kenneth (10/5): - Awesome location in the desert, near the entrance to Namib-Naukluft national park.
- Samantha (8/5): - The location and atmosphere were great.
- Johannes Adolf (8/5): Desrt Quiver Camp - Nice stay in the desert a few kilometers away from the Sossusvlei national park entrance gate. The accommodation is clean but the external canvas over the small kitchen area is in need of replacement. Also be reminded that breakfast is not served at the quiver camp but rather at the main lodge a few kilometers away.
- Bruce (8/5): Good stay - All was ok just wish the pool was working because i booked that the apartment for the pool which was closed. Was offered to use pools from nearby guest houses
Secondly the fridge was not cold and the freezer compartment was tiny. Being in a desert, a big freezer makes sense. I wanted to put 2 liters of water to user when i go to the dunes but it could fit even a 1 litre bottle
- Alexander (10/5): Preiswertes, sehr gutes Hotel, Essen Top! - 2. Aufenthalt in dem Hotel.
Lage: wenige Minuten vor dem Park Eingang. Die kleinen Häuser mit Abstand dazwischen. Ruhig & netter Ausblick zB beim Grillen.
- Drew (10/5): Great stay! - Loved this place! Very underrated, property was very pretty, staff was amazing, and they had the coldest beer possible. Not much more you can ask for after getting cooked in the sun by the dunes.
- AHM (10/5): Amazing - Amazing. Good reception and nice view.
- Vicky (8/5): - Very nice accommodation and conveniently located to visit Sossusvlei. If you choose not to cook and therefore book dinner, you will have to drive a few minutes to another accommodation, as the restaurant is not on site.
- Sabine (10/5): - Wunderschöne Lodge im Nirgendwo
- Sabine (10/5): - Tolle Unterkunft im Zentrum
- Luisa (10/5): - Perfect location, 5 min away from Namib Knaukluft Park gate to Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei. We really enjoyed the pool after a long day of sightseeing. Wifi at the bar. Beautiful!
- Dr Conrad (8/5): - Very nice
- Ignatius (10/5): - This place is a gem. We stayed for 3 nights and it was amazing. Highlights include the views, the pool and the friendly staff. The lodge is located right outside the entrance gate to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. We booked Breakfast and Dinner included and the food was amazing. I highly recommend this lodge.
- Hannah (10/5): Desert Quiver - Great space, clean, quiet. Wonderful desert view, wild animals roaming. Not too far from Sossusvlei entrance. We enjoyed our relaxing stay here after all the camping we did over the week. Reasonably price at last minute. Would recommend to other travellers.
- Maria Francesca (10/5): Ottimo! - Ottima location, camera spaziosa e pulita.
Zona bar/piscina molto scenografici.
Wifi presente solo in zona piscina.
- Denys (8/5): - Beautiful views and five minutes to the park entrance. All basic needs are covered, clean and simple.
- Robert (8/5): Lovely place with very little connectivity - Lovely place very close to the park. We preferred the little huts of the Etosha place (same company), but it had beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The only issue that we had was that the wifi was very weak and only worked at the bar/pool. The second day it didn't work at all. There are no cell towers so our SIM cards did not work here. There is an option to go to the gas station outside of the park and the wifi there (same company so no need for password) is quite good.
- Barnardus (8/5): - Views very good. Swimming pool good. Beer to expensive.
- Brian (8/5): - Had a good stay at the Desert Quiver. The rooms are basic, (but acceptable), the area surrounding the property is picturesque with the occasional Oryx wandering pass and check-in/checkout was smooth and efficient.
This property is very close to the the park entrance for climbing Dune 45 or walking to Deadvlei.
There is no restaurant at the property so we took the short drive to their sister lodge just up the road. The buffet was good but very expensive for Namibia, (meals and drinks cost around $50 per person), so make sure you arrive hungry and eat everything.
Overall, this lodge is very much as advertised and well priced. Our only small issues were the bar strictly closed at 9.30 each night, the outside cooking/preparation area needs some investment, (tough to be harsh here after two years of covid, so not a big deal) and the outdoor furniture at our room entrance was very uncomfortable, otherwise its a fine choice if you're in the area.
- Ralph (8/5): - A very Special place in the desert!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice and clean - Really nice and clean. Beautiful clear sky at night.
We had to drive for the meals to the sister hotel that has a nice choice of game meats.
- James (10/5): - An amazingly beautiful place with wonderful rooms
- Cindy (10/5): Gem in the Desert - Absolutely loved our stay at this gem in the middle of the desert. Ideally located at the gate to the park of Sossusvlei. Literally 5 minutes drive which is great if you want to split your visit to the park. It was incredibly hot during our stay so we did DeadVlei and the dunes in the morning, skipped the heat of the day at the desert quiver and went back to the canyon in the late afternoon.
They have an amazing pool which is just what you need in the heat. However, there are very limited deck chairs and umbrellas. We weren’t affected as it was not busy during our stay but I think if they are full, the pool area would be way too small and over crowded.
The rooms are lovely and the beds comfortable. Only complaint it is two single beds pushed together and as a couple its not great having the gap between us. The room is way too large for the aircon to be fully effective, and it can get rather warm in there.
The views from your patio are just amazing, and the stars at night are incredible!! The outside kitchen is great but the fridge is very small, so don’t bring too much goods that need to be chilled. They have great braai facilities and really recommend you make use of their meat and salads which you order in the morning and is delivered to your room early evening for you to braai. Great variety, Very affordable and the meat was excellent!!!
Overall, highly recommend!! I would only suggest they have comfier seating arrangements on the patio.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Ulrich (10/5): Perfect base camp for Sossusvlei - Just outside Sessriem, this is the perfect place for excursions to Sossuvlei. The huts are spacious and comfortable, and even have air conditioning (which is not always the case in this price range) The price/value ratio is excellent!
- Amir (10/5): - Stunning accommodation!! Great facilities and dinning options ( can order bbq in advance and the restaurant at the Sossusvlei Lodge is amazing!)
- manami (8/5): nice stay - nice. clean.
- Andrew (8/5): solid jump off location with sub-standard service - Convenient location. Plenty of amenities. The WiFi is poor and only available near the bar/pool. Some of the staff are completely incompetent.
Personeel is eerder afwezig. Airco in kamer is onvoldoende, bijzonder onaangename nachten.
- V.S. (10/5): - Tolle Lage mitten in der Wüste. Sehr sauber. Küche könnte besser ausgestattet sein, kein Besteck, keine Gläser, etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Tanta pace tanta tranquillità in un paesaggio mozzafiato
- Kristen (10/5): - AMAZING! Definitely our favorite place we stayed during our adventures in Namibia. 10/10, perfect distance to Sossusvlei & loved that you could order food to braai
- Nicholas (8/5): Ideal hotel to visit Sossusvlei - Great place and lovely setting. The sky at night is so bright.
Only gripe was internet which was non existent.
Meals taken at Sossusvlei Lodfe which were lovely. Lots of game meat for those that like it cooked as you want it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was impressed with the modern spacious lodge. We had been out in the desert driving all the way from Windhoek. The shower water pressure was so needed after this day. Great bed and linen. Lodge free from light pollution for midnight sky / star scouting.
- Timothy (10/5): - Great place as a self-catering chalet for a trip to Sossusvlei
- Verified traveler (10/5): A delightful well designed rustic "cabin - A great location
Excellent facilities and catering
Pleasant Welcoming and capable staff
- Patrick (10/5): Amazing place - The hotel was fabulous in all respects. Hotels.com could assist in helping a client to understand that the area is remote and that restaurants (reasonably priced) are nonexistent and shopping is extremely limited. It is a breathtaking facility, scenery and pool et al. You can’t beat this place - just ensue you arrive with food and petrol!!
- uhs (6/5): Beautiful with flaws - Beautiful spacious chalets in a phantastic landscape. But we did not have water from afternoon to the next morning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Interesting Experience - The charm of this hotel is that it is sufficiently isolated, but still in touching distance of the nearest town. Travelling 4km for breakfast and dinner is a new experience given the corrugated dirt road, although it was begin ploughed when we left. Although I have to say the staff and the quality of the food was fantastic at the lodge. The main disappointment was that the pool maintainace regime was not being followed as the pool was filthy with algae possibly due to stagnation. Several guest had to complain before prompt action was taken. Although the pool was technically cleaned on the 2nd day, ie PH balanced it was still filled with algae and green and lacked the transparent water that anyone would reasonably expect. If the hotel can maintain a higher quality cleaning process then I would recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really nice place to stay in the desert near sossusvlei
- Daniel (8/5): - We loved our stay at the Deaert Camp. It’s very close to the gates of the National Park, unlike most other Lodges! The facilities are new and clean. Bar & Pool offer a lovely sundowner experience.
- Brian (10/5): Wonderful Chalet in the Desert - The Chalet was very spacious, beautiful layout, design and well appointed on all counts. The camp facilities were excellent, a nice pool and bar area overlooking the desert plains with mountains in the distance and the red Namib sand dunes. The camp is part of the Sossusvlei Lodge complex which is located about 5 Kms away.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is my absolute favorite place for sossusvlei accommodation. Check-in was effortless and staff really helpful. Rooms and beds offer comfort and privacy...
- Declan (10/5): A great place to stay when visiting Sossusvlei. - We had a very enjoyable stay at the Desert Quiver Camp, Location was excellent, room was modern clean and comfortable, excellent, staff were friendly and helpful. Guided excursion with John and Lucas to Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and the Sesriem Canyon was informative and very enjoyable. The night sky is breath taking. Overall a great experience.
- Johanna (8/5): Lovely chalets in unusual setting. - Difficult to eat at night. Only restaurant was very exensive as you had to pay or buffet, which was far too much for us.
- Debbie (10/5): The perfect get-away destination! - Surrounded by nothing but desert - I have never stayed anywhere quite like this! I booked the dinner bed and breakfast package, and we ate our meals at the nearby Sossusvlei Lodge (part of the same group), only a 5 minute drive away - excellent food. Accommodation at Desert Quiver is relatively new and of a high-standard; the only comment I would make is that the toilet/showering facilities have a rather odd layout - it was strange there was no door to the toilet, so no privacy! Personally I'd prefer to stay here than at the larger Sossusvlei Lodge, and better value for money. Quiet, but relaxing, and nice pool/bar area. Very close to the entrance to the National Park and drive to the sand dunes.
- Verified traveler (8/5): We will definitely be back! Very good value! - A jackal came by our room and it was an awesome experience! Love the layout of the room... Simple, spacious, clean and interior design was tasteful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): 41°C
- first the swimming pool then the air conditioned in the desert was perfect to rest after a day travelling
5mn from the gate
Beautiful accommodation. The bed was great.
- Melvin (10/5): Lovely secluded desert stay - Amazing stopover in the desert. Chalets modern and well furnished. Had prearranged and paid for evening meal and breakfast at nearby Sossusvlei Lodge, which was very good. Have BBQ and utensil packs available if you want to self cater. Went to see dunes after breakfast, no queues, easy 60km drive to parking area where you can then get a shuttle further as soft sand. Nice pool and bar area at Quiver, where wifi available. Watch out for roaming animals !
- Cam (10/5): Ideal self-catering option near Sesriem gate - My family and I stayed at Desert Quiver Camp in July 2016. The rooms were beautifully designed and perfectly set up to self cater during our visit to the dunes and Sesriem canyon. What you see on the website is truly what you get and I cannot imagine a more perfectly set up and located place in the region. The staff were welcoming and friendly and provided great assistance throughout our stay, and otherwise leave you alone to enjoy your time there. We found the price to be very reasonable and have no hesitation in recommending Desert Quiver Camp to anyone planning their visit to the region.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Romantic stay! - We enjoyed our stay at Desert Quiver camp. Clean modern chalets, very spacious and comfortable room. Fantastic service, awesome opportunity to do braiia with good selection of meat from the camp under desert sky!
Shall recommend to stay there to all our friends!
- Brent (10/5): Desert Camp near the sand dunes - Check in process was very easy. We had the last unit which was nice. The whole camp was quiet and relaxing even for the short time that we were there. They had a nice pool facility, but we did not use it. The lady at reception was very friendly. A nice bar with very reasonably priced drinks. Wi-Fi not available in the room (would prefer that), but it was accessible at the bar. Overall, we had a good experience and would go back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): More like camping than camping - Stayed 1 night en route to see dunes at Sossusvlei
- Linda (8/5): Amazing views over the desert. - Quirky chalet with desert views, clean and comfortable with excellent rain shower. Just a few minutes drive from Sesriem Canyon.
Staff friendly and helpful, they gave us Chalet No 1 which we really appreciated as it was the only one with air conditioning (the other chalets just have ceiling fans.) Nice pool under a stunning rock formation. We brought our own meat to barbecue and for a very reasonable price they provided salads, bread, fruit etc. To gild the lily, a bat-eared fox came right up to the accommodation every night, got some wonderful photos.
Would definitely recommend.
- Jill (8/5): - Very comfortable accommodation in magnificent setting. Excellent facilities for self catering.
- Matthew (10/5): Great time in the desert - We had a great time during our two nights at the Desert Quiver Camp. The tents were clean, modern, and a perfect example of "glamping."
- Verified traveler (10/5): Desert Oasis - Splendid setting with a view out over the desert and dunes from the cool self-catering cabins and the swimming pool. Services are from Sossusvlei lodge, and they can provide everything you need for a braai.
