Guest Reviews
- Alison (1/5): Absolutely disgusting - Absolutely nothing
It was a dive, had bed bugs, the air conditioners did not work in any of the 3 rooms we looked at
We ended up not staying here it was disgusting Same as above
- Jodi (6/5): Convenient & close to airport. Basic room but totally fine. - No pool, but can catch an uber to Hilton and enjoy day by pool with lunch.
- Dawn (9/5): -
- FERNANDEZ (1/5): - Ubicacion Me cobraron más colones que lo que decía la aplicacion
- Guest (1/5): -
- James (7/5): The dog made us feel comfortable - The friendly staff which also included the gorgeous German Shepard dog. He made us feel comfortable as we have a dog at home and we miss him dearly. What a good perro Kinda isolated with no restaurant near by
- james (2/5): Very disappointing. Many good memories from our trip to Costa Rica but this is not one! - This is only a 2 star hotel but it should be 0 star. The room listing says it has a hot tub, and fridge, it had neither. The room is very small (basically just the size of the bed). There was only 1 hard chair to sit on. The washroom sink faucet was broken. The shower faucet does not have uniform spray. The room was not clean and had an unpleasant odour. Road noise from the highway was an issue. There are absolutely no amenities, including no drinking glasses.
- Robert (3/5): Spooky outdated motel - Seemed like a good idea to save money, but the hotel was like a haunted house. The shower did not drain, the AC smelled like mold, and the rooms felt like coffins. We were the only guests, quickly realized why. The front desk person seemed annoyed by our presence, like she had better things she wanted to do. If the price was half what we paid, we would not have complained. Then, we had to pay for the airport shuttle. The one positive is that the big hotels nearby were ripping people off charging $250/night. This place saved us money, was super close to airport. Also had a very cool dog protecting the place.
- Connor (1/5): Terrible experience - Nothing Bugs everywhere in the room the price wasn’t listed correctly so I paid more than expected. Bed was terrible only a small sheet to sleep with.
- Pavel (2/5): Not enjoyable, poor sleep due to noise - Street noise, AC leaking water on the bed, light from the hallways on during the night hours, shower drenched clogged
- Fixsen (5/5): Very basic accommodation - Near the airport and cheap. Open late. Quiet We needed a small hand towel. It was very hard to lock and unlock the door. This is a VERY basic lodging facility. A roof, a bed, a toilet and shower. But it served our needs for a one-night stay.
- Daniel (5/5): Basic stay near LIR airport - Good location near airport. Convenient shuttle and nice people working in office. Room was very small and beds smaller than normal. My feet hung off end of bed. There were ants running around in the bathroom. Only 1 ancient towel was provided in a room set up for 3 people.
- Thomas (5/5): - Smell like mold
No coffee machine
- Ann (3/5): - Convenient airport location No hot water - which would be fine if stated up front. Questionable cleanliness.
- Jorge (7/5): - Ubicación
- Timothy (6/5): Would recommend to anyone looking for a less costly place to stay for the night to catch an early morning flight. - Location to airport Just needs a little more care and maintenance, but has gotten better in the past few years.
- kristine (8/5): I need an invoice - I need an invoice I didn’t get an invoice
- Kevin (2/5): Difficult and overpriced. - Close to the airport. They mix in only thing I liked. Not clean. Not well kept. Basic in all respects. No redeeming qualities other than close to the airport. I reserved it with my credit card. My friend was actually going to pay but when we got there they had already run my card. Not giving my friend the chance to pay.
- Jonathan (4/5): - Limpieza
- Miguel (6/5): No frills motel convenient to airport - Very close to airport, nice staff. I came on new years eve, so many things were closed. There was no where in the area to get food without taking a taxi into town. When i messaged them before, it sounded like there would be food available near by. Also it would be great if there was some shuttle service to the airport.
- Lola (8/5): -
- Chris (8/5): Good place to stay if you have a fly early in the morning. - Close to the airport and the friendly staff willing to help you with getting food and transport. Only one options to get food near by
- Glenn (7/5): - Location No hot water in my shower
- Emily (2/5): - Ants everywhere including all over the bed. Would not recommend.
- Amy (1/5): Did not stay there and was not issued a refund - Walked in the room and left immediately. There were bugs The property was disgustingly
I did not stay there and was still charged !
- Sharon (8/5): One night stay close to airport. - Convenient to airport for early morning flight. Budget hotel, but clean and friendly. I arrived very late and left very early. It was no problem for the staff.
- Stan (1/5): Hotel was chosen for proximity to airport, glad it was from used from 8pm to 4am only - The air conditioner worked well. Insect infestation , ants in bathroom and crawling on bedroom walls. Tiny insects also in bathroom sink . No cups in room , no ice . Noisy highway 30 meters from room #23. Window did not close properly with gaps between window and jamb. This hotel does not meet the standards of economical hotels as in Canada.
- Paul (7/5): It was safe and it was cheap as it was just an overnight stay - The cost was very much on par with what you got. There were not enough towels in the cabin. The reception on sign in was friendly but the girl on checkout was slow to respond and not friendly. It was clean and safe. Not enough towels
- Valverde Delgado (8/5): - La ubicación Se ve antiguo
- Loni (2/5): - Room we checked into had little ants on the pillows when we first walked in and looked in the room. We asked to move rooms which we did. The next room stunk like sulphur and there were still larger ants in the room throughout the night. The bed was uncomfortable
But it’s close to the airport. Shuttle was 12 $ US even though it’s 5 km
- Janet (4/5): Close airport - shuttle good but extra cost - Close to airport
Shuttle for $16 Beds , pillows and sheets were uncomfortable- very squeaky bed !
Smelled bad
On a busy road with a loud bar close by - noisy !!
- James D (10/5): Everything I was looking for. - My stay was directly related to an airport departure. All went well. Expectations were met. There was no downside to my stay.
- Karolyne (4/5): -
- ricardo (8/5): -
- Roberth (7/5): -
- Marschke (1/5): Terrible. Never again. Always try to support more local, never again at Santa Ana Hotel. - Paid for a triple room. Upon arrival, was given a single. Brought it up and asked for a refund and was told, no. The website states shuttle and typically that means the airport will shuttle. When I asked about this service, she wrote on a piece of paper, looked at me, crossed off $12 per person and said, no that will actually be $15 per person after refusing to refund my money why for a room that I paid for that I did not receive. The internet did not work in our room which we also paid for. It’s really unfortunate because the property is beautiful but the staff are dishonest and given my entire experience I Costa Rica while I was there, really gives them a bad name. I had no other issues and we stayed in five different places spanning different places in the country. I would highly recommend just staying at the other hotels in the vicinity. When all is said and done, shuttle, internet, safety, honesty, it’s about the same cost as this hotel. Sad because continued behavior or such as this will only lead to closure which would be what is deserved. Staff honesty, giving room that was paid for, safety in room with working locks, appropriate advertisement for what is available.
- George (7/5): great stay .. close to airport - close to airport loud hwy near by
- Johanna (5/5): -
- Alan (6/5): -
- Daryl (10/5): Underrated, budget friendly hotel near Liberia airport. - I feel that this is an underrated hotel. I found it to be clean, secure, and the proximity to the car rental places is so convenient. I would definitely stay here again if flying into/ out of Liberia. And very budget friendly! I was everything I needed it to be
- Anthony (2/5): -
- Denis (4/5): - Mattress awful, inadequate linens, not very clean. Air conditioner and tv were fine.
- Ana María (10/5): - Buen parqueo y seguridad
- Annie (6/5): - Ok for a convenient location when you have a super early flight. I did spend time inspecting the bed for little creatures as the sheet
- Mariano (7/5): -
- Danny (8/5): Cómodo - La ubicación y la comodidad El olor de la habitación
- Marcus (2/5): - Had to call/wait for staff to check in, not friendly, not worth the price for quality of room/stay. Don’t recommend
- Robert (10/5): - Small room, but it is just what we wanted for one night.
- Henry Alexander (5/5): A convenient location near the airport with a clean room, but limited amenities and accessibility. - It’s close to the airport, the room was clean, and it has air conditioning. Access is difficult: there’s no pedestrian access/sidewalk to the property and no elevator (stairs only). They advertise a buffet, but it isn’t served on Sundays. There are no nearby restaurants. The bathroom had no shampoo or soap, so bring your own.
- Marcia (4/5): - olor a cigarro y moho en la habiatacion
- Jumper32 (5/5): Short and sweet is the key to accepting this location. - It was close to the airport. It is not a place to go if you are hoping for “an experience”. It’s simply an affordable place close to the airport. It’s not clean, it’s not fancy…don’t even think about booking if you and your wife are together.
- Tynan (4/5): Worth it for a night due to the price and the proximity to the airport. -
- Damien (5/5): Pretty decent 👍🏽 - It was economical and close enough to the airport and car rental places. It was fine. Very dated and old. Fridge unplugged. TV remote given but TV didn’t work. Also I left my phone cord there and would like to get it next time I stay there ;)))))) 😊 THANKS
- Barun (4/5): - Not clean and lot of bugs/ants, not good for kids. The rooms were too bright even at night
- Leopoldo (4/5): This hotel needs a facelift - Not a good experience, worn out matresses, really old towels that were more cream colored than white. At $70 you do not even get a decent soap. The old bed sheets had been used and were soiled with who knows what.
- Henrique (5/5): Passable -
- Noah (6/5): - Was a decent room for a night. Nothing is really around the hotel and I would recommend just staying in Liberia if traveling the following day. My girlfriend I and didn’t even get breakfast as it was only open from 7-8:30 which we didn’t know.
- Spencer (10/5): - Friendly staff, perfect for what we needed.
- kyle (10/5): - This was my second time staying at Hotel Santa Ana, while waiting for my departure flight to Canada out of the Guanacaste airport, the next morning. There’s not 1 negative thing I can say about this place. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The rooms are clean and everything is in good working order. The wall mounted TV is definitely a nice touch. I feel safe here. There is a lot of secure parking available, if you have a vehicle. It’s only a 6 minute drive to the airport. I love their available shuttle service to the airport for $12, it’s very convenient. There is several places to eat I found all within a 5-10 minute walk of the hotel, as well as a convenience store (Sun Market Convenience store) that is a 10 minute walk away. I like the affordability. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. I will definitely be back! 🙂
- William (5/5): The room was adequate for staying one night before an early morning flight from the Liberia airport. - The room was clean and reception was friendly. Check-in was easy. The room needed minor repairs - sink faucet, towel rack, cracks in sink, etc.
Got locked in the bathroom for a bit.
Nowhere to eat within walking distance.
- Marc-andré (1/5): Bad -
- Matechuk (5/5): Passable - That it was close to the airport The dog that kept us awake. He wanted to play but it was scary for our 4 year old having a large German Sheppard nipping at him everytime we were outside of our room. The beds were comfortable but we had trouble getting any sleep. Aside from the lizards, frogs and ants in our room, the highway nearby was so loud. Couple this with a dog that randomly barks at all hours of the night makes for little sleep. They advertise shuttle service to the airport but this isn't a free service. I felt a little misinformed by this. They also only gave us one towel per room. That's one towel to dry hands, wash faces and shower with. When there are 3 people to a room, this is a bit of a stretch!
- Sandy (3/5): Poor - There was no breakfast. The pillows or I should say no pillows.
- Gerrianne (6/5): - Lots of big red ants going to and from the bathroom/ entering & leaving via gap at room wall floor,
Bed was also not very comfortable /very basic and I woke up with a stiff back. A very basic hotel but all else was clean except that I had to keep killing big red ants and worried they’d get to me bed but I don’t think they did.
- Brent (2/5): disappointing - check in was fine
location was close to the airport and easy access as it is right on the main road to the airport
large room with decent bed airport shuttle was booked an unavailable at the time required for us to get to the airport on time. (did not use)
the room had a lot of ants and an actual nest of ants and their eggs in the shower that had to be cleaned before using the shower. (cleaned by us as it was late at night once discovered)
gecko skeleton found near the door
as the room was right on the front of the building, road noise wads an issue
there was a small room within the room that had a locked door and the lights were on inside of that room leaving lot of light when trying to sleep
- Ingrid (6/5): Things to be aware of. - The location was okay. No one spoke english. The air conditioner in the room is not work well. The water to take a bath was very cold. The toilet kept making noise
- Sharon (8/5): - Close to airport. Despite that it was quiet. Good price. They can provide transport to airport on request. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There is eating close by, but quite limited. Good inexpensive choice if you have an early morning flight.
- Robert (8/5): - The beds were uncomfortable
Rooms and showers were old.
- Gregory (4/5): Noisy Hotel - The hotel has wooden doors that don't dampen the sounds of other guests and road noise. Rude people talking loudly outside or in their rooms after 11 PM and still at 1 and 2 AM. Lots of road noise as well.
- Kathy (6/5): - It was conveniently close to the airport but I would not stay here again. It was SO noisy- the walls and windows were thin and you could hear other guests as well as traffic and plane noise like it was in your room. There were only pillow shams on the very old soiled pillows and a thin sheet over the soiled mattress. They also charge for everything including ice.
- LUCY (6/5): - There were no other places to stay as there were local festivities happening so I took this place fully knowing what I was getting into after reading other reviews.
I was in room 24 which is next to highway and the window could not be fully closed so road noise was high. I put earplugs on but still it was loud. I had the AC on which was actually working quietly and efficiently. There was also hot water unlike what some other reviews said, but since weather was hot, there was no need to use it. instead of geckos which I have seen in other places, there were some frogs on the shower walls, which I did not mind since they were kind of cute.
- Renate (1/5): false advertising - it's terrible - the lady at the front desk was very helpful to let us call a taxi to get out of this hell whole. The owner was unfriendly. The hotel (if you can call it a hotel) was ugly, felt dirty. the room looked like a prison cell. Instead of a double bed there were only 2 twin beds.
False advertising by saying it is only 2km to the airport ... it is at least 5km through heavy traffic early in the morning.
We could not stay there and booked a different hotel. We were so shocked, we even forgot to take pictures to proof it.
Don't go there!!!
- Christopher (10/5): Don’t stay here - Dirty. Ants, frogs and bugs. Uncomfortable beds. No smart tv. Rooms right by highway are very noisy. We left after 30 minutes
- Anthony (2/5): For 1 night it was ok but no longer. - N/a Too basic.
Toilet leaking.
Didn't provide a glass for drinking.
- Madeleine (4/5): If not for the dog issues the value for the price would have made this place an acceptable stay - Close to the airport They had a huge german shepherd, loose on the property, that kept jumping on me every time I left the room. Even after multiple complaints it was not until he broke my skin and made me bleed that they decided to restrict him. I realized the dog was young but this is no excuse.
- Reginald (2/5): I will not stay there again. - The location was close to the airport. The shuttle driver was ready at 5:15 am to take us to airport. There is no restaurant. Quit advertising that there is. There is a big dog in lobby that jumped up on my wife scratching her. The door on the room had gaps around it and in the centre by the panels that you could see out. The bed was survivable but not really comfortable. The noise from highway is really loud but you can drown out half of it with the TV. I wouldn’t stay there again unless you cannot afford any other place. The staff speak a little English and tried to assist us best they could.
- Sharon (8/5): - The staff was very accommodating and personable.I wanted a budget place closer to airport than Liberia and this place fit my needs. Small rooms. Quiet and clean.
- Katarzyna (8/5): Very good - Ok hotel close to airport but just for 1 night
- Wednesday (1/5): wanted to switch to another day. Wouldn’t answer email or phone. - close to airport no communication. called, emailed direct, emailed through Bookings.com, whatapped message……
- Douglas (1/5): Bad -
- Katerin (8/5): Very good -
- James (7/5): It was convenient. - Close ride to the airport. Shuttle service available, but not included in room price. A lot of traffic noise (road and air traffic)
- Jason (2/5): Restless - Proximity to airport Our room was on the 2nd level above the office. The road noise from the highway was brutal and constant. No sleep that night as it was like traffic was driving through the room.
- Fabian (5/5): close to the airport, wifi wasn't working for most if my stay. staff was okay. shuttle to airport was expensive (15$ -
- Darryl (8/5): Basic safe immaculate quiet facilities - The staff and access to the airport
- Andrew (10/5): Good nights sleep - Close to airport, reasonable price for Costa Rica
- David (1/5): Bad - Location was good however for the 1 or 2 km ride to the airport, felt the charge for the shuttle was unwarranted and should have been provided free as do many hotels. The room was old and dated. The door handle was almost ready to come off. The person on the front desk was unfriendly and when we asked for a glass for the room (there wasn't any glasses in the room) she could only come up with a dirty plastic cup. No facecloth, no bath mat and only two bath towels, no hand towels. This was and is a 1 star hotel at best.
- Glenn (10/5): Great place to stay before flight home - Quiet and clean No pool...lol
- Margaret (6/5): Not impressed - They advertise a shuttle to the airport... less than a five minutre ride but charged $15USD .... a ripoff. Had to ask for towels... got two but no handtowels
- Mike (4/5): If this is your last resort for a place to stay - Close to airport The bed was terrible uncomfortable cheap spring mattress , loud music started playing at 1 am till 3 am ,
- Earl (6/5): - Bathroom shower had a frog and lizard in it.
- zbigniew (8/5): - Conveniently located close to the airport. Close to the main road. Quiet at night. Comfortable, basic room.
- Lori (2/5): Very poor - Nothing Room musty toilet didn’t work
- Daniel (8/5): - Room was very clean. The hotel is very close to airport and was a bed and bathroom type setup with air conditioner and Television which is perfect if your looking for a nights rest without all the extras. I needed a place for one night to catch a flight the next day so the price was very good plus they had a bus to take me to the airport.
- Braga (4/5): Not very confortable, stay somewhere else if you can - Close to airport, good value Expansive breakfast for what you get, shower is plugged the water won’t go down the drain, washroom ceiling is falling down, room smells like sewage, bad is too hard
