To begin with, Grand Mercure Agra is a very aesthetically designed modern 4/5 star-hotel. It's interiors and rooms give you a feel of Marriott hotels. But what was very seriously disappointing was the kind of food that was served in the restaurant. Clearly the cooking oil which definitely was of the cheapest quality palmolein oil. To make it worse, this oil was reused to such an extent that we could smell and taste it clearly in all the items which were served in the buffet and even a la carte dishes. Even roadside street food vendors don't reuse the oil. They may use the cheapest version of palmolein oil, but they also never used the burnt cooking oil. My wife and myself developed serious stomach disorders. On our way back, we both had to halt our vehicle several times as we had to puke. We had clearly mentioned this to Santoshji at the restaurant and even the chef ( I forget his name). A hotel of this stature should not be doing such dangerous and cheap acts in the name of cost-cutting. We could sue the hotel for this. And someday, someone definitely will. The other desperate and shabby cost-cutting could be seen in the dishes served in the buffet. Don't we understand what you tried to do by adding dead, dried out brocolli from the previous days salad to the the Upma? Dried stale brocolli in upma?!? You think this was smart and intercontinental-ish? The sambar was watery and its taste was an insult to sambar. It seemed as if it was cooked to either be served to a foreigner or a patient. The coconut chutney and tomato chutney was over even before most guests had eaten their breakfast. Clearly, all the food right from the papads and starters to the main dishes seemed to be leftovers from banquets which had happened two-three days before. I can just go on and on about every dish. As if this was not enough, the water in the bathroom was so toxic that it gave us burning eyes and skin...

• Denis (8/5): Not reaching 5 stars. Reaching Taj Makhal requires a car. However good choice for short term stay. - Location is good, food taste and quality was good. 1) Long time for check-in. Apparently rooms are not getting ready by 14. 2) Check-in officer didn't offer to go for lunch while we were waiting for check-in until he was asked about it. Meanwhile the lunchtime was almost over. Check-in starts at 14, lunch finishes at 15. 3) At the restaurant during the dinner I was offered a drink and wasn't informed it comes with a cost. That was an unpleasant catch from the hotel manager. Better offer a drinks menu. 4) My room was initially booked for 1 person, adding the 2 guest was easy but the price was charged negotiably. Still uncertain if I paid more or less. 5) Cooking station for eggs at the breakfast - I was continuously ingnored by both cooks. Local people were served with an obvious priority. 6) Ordering something to the room (like bottle of water) - waiting for too long, forget to bring, had to ask twice. 7) Lotion cream at the washroom had an unpleasant smell. Obviously not refreshed for quite a while.

• Ash katwa (5/5): Was an ok stay - I traveled here with my wife, mother and my two daughters. Our original booking was with Double Tree by Hilton Agra but due to swimming maintenance going on we changed our booking to Grand Mercure. This hotel lacks a 5 star service. Check in took slightly long but was smooth. Rooms seemed a little dated. Dining area is small so the selection of foods is limited. They have a small section in the center for desserts which is usually empty. I asked one of the chefs why this was and he asked me what id like and by my surprise he served me an amazing chocolate cake that wasn't in the desserts area. The staff continuously approach you which is annoying - its like they are trying so hard. On a few occasions our orders were forgotten. The swimming pool on the roof top is very small, however the seating area is spacious over looking the Taj Mahal at an distance where you are able to buy various food items and alcoholic and soft drinks. Its a standard hotel, unfortunately i wouldn't come back here - i would most probably try the Trident near by.

El rooftop con piscina y vistas al Taj Mahal muy agradable. El servicio de restauración muy atento y la calidad de la comida muy buena. Ubicación perfecta para explorar la ciudad moviéndote en Uber. La variedad de las comidas en cuanto a opciones occidentales podría mejorar, y aunque se agradece que el personal fuera súper amable y atento, en mi opinión, tanta atención puede resultar incómodo.
