Guest Reviews
- Brian (8/5): - It’s important to know before you go that Death Valley Junction is essentially a ghost town. There are no stores, gas stations or restaurants in the immediate area. The hotel is a fascinating location and the story of Marta Becket is inspiring for artists. I have to grade the property on a curve: as an historic property it’s amazing. It is not, however, a modern hotel, so don’t expect much in the way of amenities. The building and the plumbing are over 100 years old, there are no phones or televisions in the rooms, and cell phone reception is nonexistent. The hotel does have WiFi, so you won’t be totally disconnected. I ultimately really enjoyed my stay, but it’s important to know what you’re getting yourself into. Also, ours was supposedly the most haunted room in the hotel, but alas we didn’t have any paranormal encounters.
- Claire (4/5): - The building is proud of its history. The staff lovely. Facilities very poor. Shared microwave and toaster in dirty area. Shared dirty fridge. Big ice machine. No washing up facilities. 15 mins wait for hot water...but is plentiful when it comes. Noisy air con. Bring all your own food and dishes as none available. Bed comfy. No tv in room. Wifi worked but slow at times. To be fair its the cheapest place to stay so on that basis I would return. Outside very dusty but is a desert!
- Huang (8/5): - dont expect too much as it is just motel. However, it is not just a motel. It is a motel with long history. I believe the motel preserved its core architecture since then, and you can imagine the pioneers one hundred years ago stay at the same place, looking at the same sky as you.
The staff is great as well.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great place to stay for exploring Death Valley and Ash Meadows. The staff are super friendly and accommodating, and the art and history are amazing.
- Joanna (10/5): - Loved the history! I enjoyed the site vibes and the tour offered to learn more.
- Jose (10/5): - it was a very cute hotel! very clean and great service! thank you!
- Bailey (8/5): Amazing experience - Definitely stayed for the experience. Online pictures looked so cool and seeing it in person made it even better. There were a lot of review about it being run down and not being super updated. Literally the whole point of the experience is the culture of the building. My room and bathroom was very clean, loaded with supplies, the front desk staff was extremely friendly, and check-in/check/out was very smooth. It was only 30 minutes from Death Valley National Park and only an hour and 45 minutes from Las Vegas so it was super convenient! I absolutely loved this place for my solo trip and I will certainly be back again!!
- Raymond (10/5): - Staff is professional, courteous, helpful, and informative about the area. The room very clean but is outdated and with some issues that are going to be expected for such an old hotel. It has its own personality and history which make it a great place to stay. This won’t be the type of place for people looking for all the amenities seen in a modern hotel but was a perfect place for me and my family.
- Sarah (10/5): Historical Death Valley - Lovely property and rich history; the tour gave such wonderful insight and details. Staff was helpful, passionate, and kind.
- Becky (10/5): clean/super basic/no tv,fridge,phone/adequate - The 100+ year old Amargosa Opera House & Hotel is one of a kind. If you're looking for a shower & clean room for a good night's sleep, then this place is great for just that! If you're looking for anything more, it's not a 5 star luxury spa & resort setting, & is not the place for you.
The front desk attendant, Connie, was super sweet & welcoming. She gave us info on the hotel & made sure everything was set for our one night stay. Thank you Connie!
The rooms are definitely older & have been preserved to reflect the original structures & decor as much as possible. Having said that, these things are important to be aware of before booking your stay:
-No TV, phone, fridge or microwave in the room.
-The mattresses are a little hard & not that comfy.
-There is Wi-Fi.
-The plumbing is original so they ask you to go sparingly on the use of tp & to not put anything else down the toilet & nothing down the drains. In addition, guests are asked to let the hot water trickle for about 15 minutes before use to warm up the terra cotta pipes.
These are not at all negative comments, just facts to be aware of ahead of time.
The setting is quiet & peaceful. The room was clean & comfortable. The A/C & Wi-Fi worked well & we had a good night's sleep.
*this property is known for being haunted (which we did not find out about until after we had checked out), & although it may appear spooky at night, we did not witness any unusual activity during our stay
- Daniel (10/5): Uniquely fantastic! - A truly unique and fantastic stay. Limited amenities, but it does have a microwave and fridge for guest use, as well as more history and charm than one can imagine without experiencing it.
- Saverio (10/5): - special place
- Abhijit (6/5): - The property definitely felt like roughing it, like it hadn't been updated in decades. I know they are trying to maintain the character, but really I just wanted a place close to the park to save me driving time.. The after hours check in was a bit stressful ... they only let me know there was no attendant after hours the morning of, but since I was in Death Valley NP, I had no signal and did not see the message. So I arrived and was stressed b/c I didn't think I would be able to get into my room.
I also find it a little odd they don't let you fill up water bottles.
- Edward (6/5): - Whether or not you’ll like this hotel is based on one overriding question : can you tolerate an old, dingy property, and rooms in obvious disrepair, in the name of historical authenticity? I suspect people will either love or hate this place.
I loved it, my wife hated it! There you go…
- Elizabeth (4/5): - The property is really rundown and the water smells funny, but it was close to Death Valley
- Dianne (10/5): - Staff and service was excellent
- Davina (8/5): - Unique historical property
Do not expect 5 stars but if you are interested in a historic stay this is for you
Don’t miss the free tour some mornings
- martin (6/5): Odd, but charming. Wea Anderson fans will love it - Pity there are no marks for charm and singularity. This is just not your normal motel, nor is Amargosa hamlet, which is a photographer's. Staying there was a memorable experience for all sorts of good reasons. Boring and bland it is not.
Bed comfy, aircon works.
Shame windows don't open. Bring your own food, there's nothing around.
Good jumping off for DV and just up the road from Shoshone and its wonderful museum. Watch the stars way out in the desert.
- ryan (10/5): History - Rustic and historic. That’s what you’re booking. This place is in original condition and prides itself on it. There was a place in time where a facility such as this existed but has long disappeared because of technology and amenities. You are booking an experience not an amenity. This place is a destination within itself. Kudos for the owner’s belief that people will party for the experience. Rooms are clean, bed is clean but sparse. Again you’re there for the history. Don’t change a thing. Don’t you draw.
- Isabel (8/5): - Historic building very old and without glamour, staff super friendly and helpful. Place is clean but pipes are old and shower clogged.
- Eugene (6/5): -
The staff was very warm and helpful. Our room was clean, good beds, clean towels and bedding. No TV. Spotty internet, but I think that is due to remote location. Old plumbing (very old.) The desk was manned 8-8, but often unattended. No food there, no coffee available til staff arrives at 8. This is a place with a beloved history that the local fans keep alive. But the property was run down. The hall was especially dank, carpet bad. The tour of the Opera house is supposed to be very worthwhile, according to other guests, but we could not attend. The hotel is 30min from the Death Valley entrance.
- Fernanda (2/5): - Scary
- Lou (10/5): - This is a ghost town hotel in a real ghost town
- Peg (4/5): - No dining nearby. Old, run-down, peeling paint and loose plaster, sewage smell, room pictures were deceiving, shower was just a trickle with inconsistent hot water. Some electrical outlets looked incomplete. The bed was fine.
- Karen (10/5): - This is an historical property trying to stay afloat. If you like an isolated, quiet, off-the-grid experience, this is for you. Tours of the Opera House twice a day were interesting. The dark night sky was a bonus!
- Karen (2/5): - This property was poorly advertised. They advertised dining on site and WiFi. Neither were available or working. The property was disgusting, run down and so dirty that I wouldn’t even shower. The plumbing was so poor they have signs everywhere to be careful. The locks were very flimsy and not safe.
- Sara (6/5): More neglect than charm - Stayed over after ending our day in Death Valley NP. The staff seem to do the best they possibly can with this aging property. The check in was friendly. The room was as clean as it could be. The place likely had a charming rundown vibe going for it in 1966, but it has reached a further state of decline that replaces the charm with something closer to neglect. The property has a little museum display across the street for something that happened in 2018 for a dancer. There are other plaques from 1988 marking the history. So it clearly was a pet project for some boomer(s). They either need to seriously invest in upgrading some part of the property so that the stucco walls don't cave and the tile in the bathrooms isn't coming up; or they need to say farewell and end it all.
- Brad (10/5): - Awesome place so much history, staff was wonderful, facilities old but clean. The 2023 Hillary floods hit the whole area hard and they are still recovering.
- HyangJa (2/5): - The room itself was clean enough, but there was a terrible smell in the hall way. Also, there was no staff in between 8pm to 8am next morning. Of course there was no morning coffee service until 8 am.
Considering that, the price is way too high.
- Frank (10/5): - Older property but it was well maintained. We really enjoyed our stay. Close to Nevada Border so we were able to get gas much cheaper and The Long Street Casino had a good restaurant. The hotel was not too far from Death Valley National Park. It was perfect for us.
- Norma (6/5): - Advertised internet. Did not work. Just very old and tired. Only hotel available in the area, so they could charge a lot but we got very little. If you’re desperate, the bed was great and the bedding was great.
- Rosemary (6/5): - The opera house is very interesting and nice to see but it needs updating badly. The room we stayed in had peeling paint on the ceiling and the shower had cracked tiles. It is very old and the hot water took forever to get to the shower. Then the faucet was broken so it dripped all night. The owner was very nice, though.
- Steve (6/5): - Cudos for the owners for keeping it going. An historic and peaceful place in the desert.
- Alexander (4/5): - I only booked this place because it was the closest to Death Valley National Park. If you don't need to be close, I recommend Pahrump, NV.
- Steve (6/5): - Historic
- Patricia (8/5): - I loved the whole old look
But they need to paint and deep clean and fix plumbing. The internet, was none!!
The stuff was fantastic
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It’s an amazing building and if you love history and old building you should stay. it’s also very old and sparse with few amenities and fragile plumbing and bad WiFi. The price is reasonable all things considered and regardless you should do the tour.
- Kathy (10/5): - Really cool place
- Dan (6/5): Wonderful Night Manager, but Very Poor Hotel - First I want to say that the wonderful young woman who checked me in was stellar. She was so nice, friendly, and welcoming. I hate giving bad reviews, however, the condition of the hotel is very poor, the water coming from the shower head was barely a trickle, there was a smell of raw sewage in the hallway and in our bathroom that literally made me a bit sick to my stomach, and the condition of walls esp around the base were quite deteriorated as if it had been damaged by flooding. Given the condition of the rooms, poor shower, strong smell of raw sewage I am surprised it passes California State inspections. There was supposed to be coffee but was none. There was no fridge, microwave, cups for water in the rooms as well. The heater/AC unit was in good condition and was fairly quiet. Bed was good and the sheets were clean with good pillows. The good about the hotel is that it is fairly near an interesting Death Valley National Park and is much less expensive than the accommodations in the park.
- Camille S (8/5): Overall good - We booked with Amargosa because of its interesting history and proximity to DVNP. The receptionist was very helpful and kind. Our room was clean and comfortable as well. The plumbing at Amargosa is as old as the building however. So that’s about 100 years. We noticed a pretty strong sewer smell in the hallway but not in our room. Also if we had wanted to shower we’d have had to keep the water running for 15 minutes before it got hot- and especially in the desert that just didn’t feel right. Overall it was a good experience though.
- Andrii (10/5): - Old historical place. Like it.
- Cheri (2/5): Just don’t - The location itself is very old. It’s over 100 years old. Normally this is my kind of thing. I don’t mind peeling paint. I don’t mind it being rough around the edges. I love the solution. I love the idea of this place. Unfortunately, it was subpar on almost all levels. And that saying a lot, I love an historical stay, which is why I chose this place to begin with. But the smell that permeated the whole place, the halls, the rooms, the linen, the pillows. The furniture was a brawl sewage. Do not stay here till corrections have been made.
The only reason we stayed is it is in the middle of nowhere. We got there about 9 o’clock and there is a little around for options.
- Dayna (10/5): - Great!
- Don (6/5): - Rustic hotel, about a hundred years old. The
- Steven (10/5): - Was like living in the old mining era.
- Maira (10/5): Already ready for my next stay here! - Rooms were clean and well-maintained. The hotel itself is charming and the staff was very kind. Take the tour if you can and learn more about Marta Beckett and the history of the hotel! The surrounding desert was nice to walk in as the sun rose. Some of the rooms were hand painted by Beckett and I got lucky enough to be in one!
- Amber (10/5): - Super cool history & tour of the property. Staff was friendly & knowledgeable. Water in the shower was extremely cold but the property is very old, so no biggie. Totally worth it. Would stay here again!
- John (6/5): - Quite a historical property but really needs some TLC
- Zhengdong (6/5): - It worked well.
- patricia (6/5): - Pros for property about 25 min into death valley furnace creek. Wonderful warm duvet in February. Loved the art work and history. Great staff. Cons: unsafe electrical outlet in room 24. Room heat/airconditioner which was next to double bed ran constantly to keep room comfortable. Lack of onsite restaurant and casino 7 miles had terrible food. Sewage smell.
- Verified traveler (4/5): An interesting museum, NOT recommended as a hotel. - Not sure how the authorities let this property operate. It is literally crumbling to dust (as was the intent in the Trust of the historic owner). Plumbing is ancient (instructions to run the hot water for 15 minutes if you actually want hot water), carpet may be original, stucco is crumbling inside and out, no staff on premises after 8 pm.
The bed WAS clean; the shower, due to crumbling tile---not so much.
The positives are the historic interest, the "Opera" House and the artistic talent of the eccentric owner Marta Becket (who painted all of the murals on the property).
The closest restaurant or food market is 7 miles away.
All this should qualify the property as a museum, not a hotel.
If my wife was with me, I'd be divorced.
- Angela (10/5): - I absolutely loved my 2 night stay here for the Death Valley half-marathon. It was such a curious and cute little hotel, so charming and full of character. Check in went flawlessly, and I appreciated that the heating in the rooms was cranked up because it was winter! The hotel was very quiet and calm and the bed was very comfortable. The only possible issue was that the wifi barely worked, but I didn't mind, because I was trying to unplug in nature anyway. Highly recommend anyone looking for an affordable stay near Death Valley national park to check this place out. I will be back in the future!
- Bowen (10/5): - Staff was kind to send me a message when I didn’t show up for check in. They were very accommodating!
- Steve (2/5): - The intent of my trip was to take a tour of the opera house so so stayed at the hotel. At check in I was assured the tour would take place at 9am in morning. At 9am I went to the front desk and the staff stated the tour was canceled as it was too cold. After a 7 hour car drive to Death Valley I feel Expedia mis represented what I needed to make a rational buying decision. The mold and terrible conditions would have been tolerable if the opera tour was available. I have been a loyal customer to Expedia and a discount or voucher for next trip would be nice
- Diana (10/5): - Outside was in bad condition but inside was good
- Brendan (10/5): - A very nice, interesting place, the Opera House was quite welcoming and offered a unique, tranquil experience. I plan on returning the next time I visit the area.
- Allen (6/5): Ghostly Amaragos Opera House - Room itself is spartan and worn. King bed comfy. But, the whole opera house thing is very interesting. Charming murals and artifacts in common area. No sign out front so it looks closed. Must look for hotel entrance well back from the road. Nearest restaurant 7 miles north. Food okay there. There are claims that the hotel is haunted. Not our experience.
- marcus (10/5): - This is a truly unique property that is a historical part of the region. The hotel is 100 years old and is very basic and simple, but it's a fun trip back in time with great staff and really cool architecture. It's a great experience. I later read that I stayed in one of the most haunted rooms but I slept like a baby both nights. Also, great place to explore death valley from
- DONNA (10/5): - The staff at the hotel were friendly and very accommodating. The Opera House tour is a must!!
- Trish (6/5): - Historic building, over 100 yrs old. Because of this, it is overpowering with musty smells. Pretty bad unfortunately. It was dingy. No tv's which i get, but no other entertainment either. 100.00 a night for a king. Bed was comfy, but bedding was slightly musty in our room. Unfortunately, not worth the money charged.
- Lukas (10/5): - Beautiful 100 year old building with a lot of charme and details. The plumbing is old too, so you have to wait some minutes, till you get hot water. The staff is great and you can book tour through the Amargosa opera house (9am and 6pm).
- SEAN (2/5): - Literally the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Had I know I would have driven the 7 miles further to the LongStreet. Hallway smelled like sulfur (rotten eggs), sand and hair under the covers on the sheets, water smelled sour. Almost slept in my car.
- Vijay (2/5): Avoid - This is a really terrible property. Granted it's an old building in remote area but I have stayed in hotels third world countries in remote areas with better facilities. Rooms are dilapidated. Towels are threadbare. There's a terrible odor in the lobby and rooms. We couldn't get out of here fast enough.
- LE (10/5): - Step into the charm of a 100-year-old vintage hotel, renowned for its rich history and timeless allure. This iconic establishment is a must-visit for any traveler seeking to experience a piece of living history. While the rooms maintain their classic, aged aesthetic, they are meticulously kept, ensuring a clean and authentic stay.
- Natalie (6/5): - not for the faint hearted - this is not a luxury stay but a truly unique one! make sure to pay for the tour of the opera house when you're there :)
- yongdong (4/5): - too old. Need renovation.
- Cynthia (6/5): - Better. choice near civilization after a trip in Death Valley
- Cheng (2/5): - There is no hot water in evening, the show does not work, the air conditioning unit is so noisy the worst experience ever
- Kate (8/5): - I love that the Opera House exists, and only wish I could win the lottery and donate millions to bring it to its original condition.
My only complaint is for the other guests being noisy and easy to hear through the old plaster walls. I Wish guests realized how much voices carry in their rooms. I will continue to stay here - I love its charm!
- LadyeA (10/5): Best views of the sky at anytime - I specifically stayed at this hotel to see the best sunrise, sunset and stars. It didn’t disappoint. Yes it is an older hotel, but dang, it has character. It was very cold in the evening and I didn’t want to wait on hot water for the shower. No tv in the room, was a large tv in old restaurant area. Very nice going in there for morning coffee and hot tea. Also could stay in there and check emails and phone calls. Love being able to park at the door and unload. Arrived early and went 7 miles up to the Casino for supper and seeingThe Bovine.
- Jessica (2/5): - Strong moldy smell everywhere. Couldn’t stay the night. Dilapidated. It’s old but conditions are unacceptable even for an old property. 15 minutes to get hot water for shower. Staff was nice and they refunded our money.
- Math (8/5): - While the building has seen better days and the accommodations are minimal, this place is the most unique stay I've ever had and is bursting with exciting history, which the helpful staff will share on and off the tour.
I'd highly recommend staying here to help keep this place alive, but just be prepared for things to be a little rough around the edges.
- Ladye (10/5): - Wanting to see stars? This is the place you want to be. Eating is 7 miles up the road. Great tea and coffee ready 7 a.m. It's an old motel with lots of character.
- Ryan (10/5): - Really great opportunity to stay in a historic building and to learn about a beautiful life. As they state plainly on their website, staying here is a rustic experience--there are exposed pipes, no TV (although there is wifi), and parts of the hotel have a funny smell. But it is a 100+ year old building that has endured many punishing desert summers and cold winters. It is not the Ritz-Carlton--don't come here if that's what you're after. However, my fiancee and I felt enriched learning the story of Marta Beckett and having a tour of the old opera house. Her life is inspiring, as described in the 2000 movie "Amargosa". We intend to return and we would recommend the hotel to anyone adventurous enough to sacrifice a little on amenities in order to have a truly unique experience.
- Darleen (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay here, but we came for the experience, not the amenities. If you're looking for modern posh, this isn’t the place for you. If you are wanting a unique experience and the opportunity to spend the night in a historical location, then this is your bag!
The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. We paid the small fee for the evening tour and it was wonderful! There are no TVs in the rooms and everything about the place is really, really old which was all part of the experience. We would definitely stay here again!
- Enrique (10/5): - very nice and quiet
- Kent (2/5): - Tia should not be open. It discredits Expedia’s mission ramschackled in disrepair water problems no hot water no food or nearby restaurants maid service housekeeping terrible. Spent over$100 a night booked for 2 nights left after one. Would not refund 2nd night.
- KWANG (4/5): - I could not to go there because internet did not through
- Zane (8/5): - Unique place. Fun history. Could use a facelift especially sewer/plumbing to remove that smell to go outside verse inside.
- Steven (2/5): - We checked out the room and found that there appeared to Be mold in the shower the whole place smells musty there was paint pealing everywhere and am sure that do to the age of the place it had to be lead paint which is a hazard. We did not stay for fear of health concerns
- Adriana (2/5): - I have never slept in a dirtier place than this! And the smell is just horrible! Cracked tiles in the bathroom and the toilet wasn't even working! Very ,very bad experience! Not sure how Expedia and other travel agencies work with it because the place is falling apart. Needs some deep cleaning and a fresh paint!

- David (6/5): - Great concept. Just not quite there yet. Room was clean but had issues. Would do again to support the property- hope remodel continues. Would be a great place to stay if it can be brought up to the basic standards you expect in a 2 or 3 star hotel
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Luck on Service
- angela (6/5): Historical but may be better as a replica - We stayed here about 15 years ago when Marta was alive and performing. It was a unique and quirky experience we still talk about. However, Marta has passed, and as a hotel, the Amargosa has had some problems including flood damage. The plumbing, as noted on many signs, is 100+ years old, but the fixtures are also old. Our shower could only give hot or cold water - not warm, because it was a split tap and no shower wand. I ended up not being able to wash my hair and ran a partial bath instead. But it was time-consuming and rather unpleasant. The bed was very comfortable and they had a new A/C unit which did a great job. The staff was friendly and the common areas had amenities like microwave and toaster so that we were able to have a late supper. Overall, I suspect it will take a lot more money to repair and keep the Amargosa going than to create a replica. If you're young and want a fun story to tell about your adventures, stay here. But if you need more safety and comfort features, this may not be your best option.
- Alia (10/5): - I understand the pull of the place that Marta felt, it was absolutely enchanting and I can't wait to stay again!
- Belinda (8/5): Friendly but smelly. - We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and given keys and directions to our room. The good bits were that there was a direct door outside that could only be opened from the room but this was useful for getting luggage in and out. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The facilities in the main area of the building were great with a fridge/freezer, a microwave, lovely cold or hot water for drinking and there were also books to read or dvd's to watch if you so wished. The bad bit was that there was a warning about the plumbing being old but our noses picked this up immediately in not only our bathroom but in the corridor too. It was such a shame as the location was perfect for exploring Death Valley without the huge prices of Furnace Creek. If the plumbing odours could be fixed then I would definitely recommend this quirky place to stay.
- Rachel (2/5): - There was nothing I liked. It smelt of a sewer, broken and missing tiles on bathroom foor so a hazard when using the bathroom. Dreadful place
- Nabeela (2/5): - The very poor condition of the property, the smell like feces, and the gutter open, no proper drainage system
- 47vimalb (2/5): Nightmare of Death Valley - This was one of the worst places we ever stayed in. The carpets stank, the room was not cleaned properly, could see dust everywhere. The woman receptionist was horrible to me when I poured cold water into my water bottles, she told me off as said that you only use cups. But they also say to run the water for 15 mins to get hot water. Sounds contradictory. We only wanted to fill out water bottles to hydrate ourselves for the day. How do you expect us to get water when there’s no shop nearby.
The 100 year old excuse for the state of the hotel and the pipes does not make sense, older buildings are better maintained.
Never recommend this place and that receptionist needs to be sacked for her behaviour
- emj475 (2/5): Waste Of Time - Waste Of A Day Of Precious Holiday. - This was beyond disappointing. We made a trip to Death Valley for the sole purpose of staying at this place to do th3”e tour. However, despite my friend emailing 3 days before arrival and the fact that it states tours available the lobby they replied the morning of our arrival to say tours ate cancelled until further notice e because of the heat. We asked first thing in the morning if we could peak our heads in to the opera house but was told but a pretty grumpy employee that it was impossible. She said it was due to the heat then stated it was because of staff shortages and that she needed to be on reception despite the fact she had in fact been gone for half an hour leaving the place unattended. We’re really angry about this whole thing because we essentially wasted a day. The place is in disrepair and because of flooding smells pretty awful.
Go stay in Betty 40minutes away for a better time,
- Cheong (4/5): - The hotel provides only the basics: clean linen, comfortable beds and functioning hot-cold water supply. It charges a price that is about 50% higher than similar grade motels. The building and its environment give people a derelict impression. At first sight I was very unhappy about my choice and the info provided by Hotels.com However after knowing a little bit about the place I come to realize that we are in fact residing in a real ghost town (not just visits to touristic ghost towns). Moreover by staying there we contribute to the conservation work of the 100-year old building which otherwse would get no funding. With this thought in mind, we thought that the 50% more that we paid are good value for money. Afterall visitors to the tough Death Valley should be ready to endure some inconvenience.
- Craig (8/5): - For a quick night to stay as a spot to kick off your trip into Death Valley, good value for money.
- mark (6/5): - People who stay should know this is an old creeky hotel with little features. No in-room coffee, no TV, no fridge, etc. Musty and dusty. Wall A/C is noisy. There is WiFi thank gawd. Bare bones place just outside of Death Valley. Pet friendly.
- Steve (6/5): - A little run down, and a little creepy at night that’s what made it kind of fun and different. Room was comfortable, and it worked for the need
- Robert (8/5): - This is a great old property with a great staff. History buffs will love it. Just a little more TLC would make it perfect.
- John (10/5): - Loved the staff and welcoming energy!
- Hannah (10/5): - Our stay here was such an adventure. If you love history and the desert, make sure you stay a night here! Yes, the building is super old and not the most updated, but the rooms, beds, and towels were clean and comfortable. We were literally the only people in the entire hotel that night (which was a little spooky but so fun) & we loved wandering around the halls, checking out the murals and artefacts all throughout the building. If you’re looking for somewhere unique to stay on your way into/out of Death Valley this place is perfect! It’s in a bit of a ghost town, so keep that in mind. It was the perfect resting place for the night for us though! Absolutely loved staying here and the staff was so kind. I just wish we would’ve had more time to do the tour and check out the actual opera house!
- Colin (8/5): - This is my 5th time visiting and staying here. It's a run down hotel in the middle of nowhere, but it always feels so peaceful and calm. I just love it. I took the tour again for the 5th time and this one was the best ever! The woman giving the tour had recently moved from Vegas and ended up giving the best tour I've ever had there. It was a wonderful experience and I slept very, very well. I will definitely return when I can.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The building's hallway smells and has various stains and bugs. It feels truly in the middle of nowhere.
