Guest Reviews
- Jonathon (10/5): Beautiful home stay with very friendly and helpful host. Amazing location, easy to get to beach, town and rice fields - Great service and wonderful location
- Suzanne Sonia (7/5): -
- kane (10/5): Beautiful family and beautiful accomadation. Really friendly and welcomed us with open arms. Went above and beyond to he - Property was very comfortable, very cheap and a great room size with great facilities.
- Michael (6/5): - The owners were very friendly and cooked you breakfast. The location is very hard for Grab drivers to get to. Best to walk out to the main road to catch a Grab ride.
- Dagmar (6/5): It was supposed to be a dream peaceful village style experience but it was rather nightmare because of the lack of care - The location is amazing - right in the Tra Que vegetable village, in front of the river, with chickens next door and with beautiful view into the greenery. The Wi-Fi was strong and there was a good table in the room in case you need to work online. The room was reasonably clean and the shower with hot water was great. I almost never write negative reviews but we were attracted by the raving reviews of this villa and it simply isn’t the current reality now in April 2025. This property probably seen great times in the past but not right now.
- When we arrived, they were fixing the swimming pool so it was not possible to use it. When we were leaving, it was still nowhere near to be finished. It was a disappointment because with a child having the pool access was very important. No information about this on Booking.com or in their communication. There could be a discount offered because a crucial part of the facilities was not working.
- The family is very kind and sweet on the first sight. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Considering it is a small house with just 4 rooms and family business you would expect them to be there for their guests. Unfortunately we had to hunt them every time we needed anything. It seems they are juggling other businesses or jobs but the guests shouldn’t feel it. During our stay we felt completely left behind and not taken care of. The man of the house is walking around shirtless all the time in front of children and guests (first time I see this in Vietnam). After experiencing the hospitality in Vietnam for several weeks, this was a disappointment and all other villas that we visited cared much more about their guests and behaved in more professional way.
- Very simple breakfast - everywhere else you get a fruit plate. In the middle of Tra Que vegetable village… no fruit. Plus we were supposed to warm up our own breakfast at the shocking time of 9 am. It was too much for the guests. They asked me to make my own scrambled eggs. :-) What a hospitality. I work in tourism my whole life and this is the first time I experience that I pay for breakfast which I am supposed to make myself. Not being around for their guest in the breakfast time just shows how much the owners care about their property.
- Kate (8/5): Really amazing and comfortable. - My cousin and I stayed here for a week because we needed a break. The moon river Homestay was exactly what we needed, it was the perfect distance between beach and town making it easy to have the best of both worlds, beach days and evening activities. Our hosts, Moon and Tri are some of the nicest people I have met, Moon took us out one day to go see a factory store and showed us some awesome street food. We did have some struggles but our hosts were very quick to respond after we talked to them. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone that is traveling and needs a tranquil place to enjoy the amazing Hoi An!
- Clare (8/5): Very good - Peaceful, but good access to beach and main town by bicycle. Tri and Moon were very nice, and the pool was great! Bed was comfy. Decoration a bit tired, but great value for money.
- Kirsten (10/5): Simple, local accommodation with delicious breakfast - Tri & Moon were lovely hosts and were very helpful and accommodating. Tri's breakfasts were delicious and it was to have several options to choose from, so we had a different local dish every day, along with lovely Vietnamese coffee. The room was basic, but had everything we needed. It was great value for money and we would happily stay again.
- Kitty (9/5): Superb - Moon and Tri are very kind hosts and they make you feel at home right away. The location, in Tra Que Village between the city and the beach, was great and peacefull. Breakfast was delicious.
- Michael (10/5): - The hosts, Tri and Moon, are the most hospitable people I have yet met, in a nation of hospitable people. They have gone above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and welcome. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
- Rachel (10/5): Lovely - We loved our stay. The hosts are lovely people who make you feel like family. Lovely view in a lovely location.
- Kamila (10/5): Cozy homestay with stunning views - The hospitality of the hosts (Tri & Moon) was amazing. Loved the views from the room & the adjacent balcony. The location was perfect - both old town and beach were easily accessible by bike.
Felt super comfortable staying there, even decided to prolong my stay -
- Babak (10/5): - Great place with very good price, close to city and a nice beach, bike and motor bike available for rent and helpful and lovely hosts.
- Douglas (10/5): Really good place to stay - Love the people and the area pool was great Food was not good
- Adrienn (10/5): Be in nature and still in the middle is the best - It is a 5stars Homestay in a lovely mostly quiet, green and very authentic area in Hoi An. I recommend it to everyone who prefers the sounds of birds over the sounds of motorbikes. It is very easy to get to a bank, market, shops in town or to the beach by simple bicycles provided for reasonable price. I loved my river view and enjoyed the swimming pool, that was warm and good enough size for a little swimming. I loved Tra Que Village with is wide green gardens, where the Homestay is located. Moon and Tri made me feel taken care of very well. I would come back here! As mentioned it is a 5 stars homestay but not a 5 stars hotel, as the price also indicates. Come with expectations accordingly and you are going to be very happy with your choice. One thing you might want to bear in mind that the internet connection is not always totally reliable. But there is a fancy co-working space nearby in case you have critical tasks at those few times when there is no strong connection.
- Maarten (9/5): Superb - Nice clean room with you're one bathroom. Warm water, Airco. The owner and his wife where verry friendly. After checking out I still could use the swimmingpool. They even brought me to the bus pickup location.
- Markéta (8/5): Very good - Location is amazing - located on the island, next to the garden fields, close to the centre and close to the beach.
Owners were nice, allowed us early check in and free room upgrade. View from the room super nice, pool was okay and breakfast tasty. No hot water in the morning.
- Timothy (9/5): It was calm and lovely - Breakfast was great, there is a menu for you to choose from. The place was nicely hidden within a far , so the view and atmosphere was great!
- Carolin (10/5): Exceptional - Tri and his stuff are very friendly and supportive. We really like the location of the homestay just outside of Hoi An in the vegetable village. So if you prefer nature and more quiet, it its a great homestay. You need to rent a scooter to get into the City of Hoi An (You can rent it at the homestay). It's just a 7-minute drive to the Center of Hoi An.
We enjoyed our stay and would come back again (as we already did, it was our second time, staying at the moonriver homestay) everything was great.
- Patrick (10/5): - The staff were so friendly and. Helpfu. I lost my debit card before staying there and they helped to get started again. The food was delicious. Try there cooking class as well. The rooms were clean with a great view of the river. The pool was a great place to relax in the heat as well. I highly recommend this place
- Iuliia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nadia (10/5): Best place to escape from the city and have a relaxing time surrounded by gorgeous scenery. - This homestay is on the island which means it is away from the hussle and bussle of the city centre. It is perfect to relax and even get in touch with nature if you want to. The owners, Tri and Moon are phenomenal. They are kind, caring and willing to inlcude you in all of their activities (if you wish to do so). It is a 5 - 10 minute drive to the old town on a scooter and the same distance from the beach. They have a beautiful pool on the property, which meant we did not even need to go to the beach to swim. I would recommend this place to everyone. It was wonderful.
- Wiesner (8/5): Very good -
- Camille (10/5): Fantastic little gem in the vegetable village - Don’t hesitate to book this property! Hosts are so friendly and helpful. A stunning location with views across the river and fields. Clean and spacious room. Great shower. Lovely breakfast. lots of activities in the area. Nothing.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Tri & Moon were wonderful host they looked after me beyond expectation nothing was to much for them to make my stay great. Every was good except for the weather this they could not change.
- Anonymous (10/5): I highly recommend Moon River Homestay to anyone looking for a comfortable room with the the most amazing hosts! Extreme - I love the location, the cleanliness, the pool, the value for money, comfortable room and most importantly the hosts (Tri & Moon) are beautiful people! I loved everything!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and caring staff. You will feel at home here.
- Hunter (10/5): - Great homestay - hosts are very nice, drove me to places I wanted to go and cooked me breakfast in the morning. Highly recommend.
- Juha (10/5): Charming place with the friendliest hosts! - We had a very pleasant 16 -night stay in Moon River Homestay & Villa! Moon & Tri are excellent, friendly and helpful hosts. They want to provide you some extra experiences whenever possible, like showing you the local breakfast places or sharing lunch with you. They can assist you with any travel needs or advice you might have. The room was great, comfortable bed & clean and modern. Location is nice and quiet in Tra Que -vegetable village, conveniently between An Bang beach and the Hoi An town. Bicycles are provided for free and motorbikes for rent. You will need them to move around. The owners dog "Nee" is adorable too. Good selection for breakfast choices available, fast wifi. Recommended if you enjoy relaxed homey feeling and peaceful surroundings! Friendliest hosts ever! Pretty sure we will go there again! Thank you Tri & Moon :)
- Stuart (10/5): simply, the best - Moon River was fantastic! They are so friendly and accomodating. They go out of their way to make you feel at home, to invite you out for breakfast and coffee, and give you rides into town. This is by far the best experience I've ever had at a guest house.
- Nathan (10/5): Awesome experience - Large modern room, great air com. Beautiful view of the river and 3 minutes bicycle ride to the beach. Hosts Moon and Tri are extremely friendly and took me to breakfast everyday as part of the room charge and were happy to drive me anywhere. Amazing friendly service.
- Zoella (10/5): A truly awesome home stay - you won't regret it! - Our stay with Tri and Moon proved one of the leading highlights of our three week trip to Vietnam and contributed much to our enjoyment of Hoi An. Both were extremely welcoming and friendly throughout, offering helpful advice on what to see and where to go as well as answering our many questions. For a small fee they even shuttled us to and from their home during our evenings out, a real help as Hoi An after dark is definitely not to be missed.
We were initially checked into a room at the front of the house and while luxuriously comfy and clean (the beds in particular are unbelievably soft, as you'll find out!), our hosts very generously offered to move us to a room at the back of the property with views over the garden and river beyond. Overall, the house embodies a peaceful and serene feeling of intimacy that you just don't get with a hotel.
Finally, I can't wrap this up without mention of Tri and Moon's offer to take us out early in the morning to enjoy an authentic Vietnamese breakfast in their company. This was an absolutely brilliant experience and one of the many little touches that made our stay such a pleasant one. If we are ever in Hoi An again - and we'd love to return - we know where we'll be staying!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Moon River Delight - Best place I have stayed on my thus far 8 week trip. The host family is extremely accommodating. Room is very clean and quiet. Very close to beach. A little further to the town center but the bike provided makes the trip doable.
- Chun Lang (10/5): Great Hosts, Great Place - Tri and Moon (the two hosts) became very good friends throughout our stay. They showed us to their favourite restaurants and breakfast places. Truly wonderful to stay with them.
The location is great, just 10-12 minutes by bicycle to the old town and 8 minutes to An Bang Beach. The Vegetable village was tranquil, beautiful. The rooms were comfortable to stay in.
- Mohammad A. (8/5): Rural quiet and friendly people - both of the property operator are very friendly accomodating, near beach but rural area
- Harry (10/5): Great place to spend peaceful holidays - If you don't expect five-star-service, I can objectively recommend this place to you. It was one of my best choices ever. If I visit Hoi An again, this homestay villa deserved to be my top-notch residence. Hosts were very kind, diligently maintained their facilities, and if you have any special request, they would find reasonable solution. And, last but not least, even though the location of the moon river villa is a little bit apart from the old town of Hoi An (about 10~15 minutes by bicycle), but because of that you can see normal farming lives of local people and enjoy peaceful times.
- Naomi (8/5): Comfortable homestay with wonderful hosts - Clean, comfortable room in quiet and beautiful surrounds. The hosts, Moon and Tri, were fantastic and offered insights into the Vietnamese culture and lifestyle. I was privileged to share a traditional Vietnamese meal with them at one of their favourite restaurants. They also have a super cute dog. Free use of bicycles for commuting and transfers are easily organised through the hosts. They organised for a scooter with driver to take me to My Son, and transfers between the accommodation and train station/airport.
The location is in the village surrounded by farms which means it is quiet and, in my opinion, beautiful scenery. An Bang beach is about 1km away and the town is about 2.5km away (short trips on the bicycle). The weather is hot so these trips might make you a hot, sweaty mess. Taxis or scooter transfers can be organised for a small fee.
The bed was comfortable, the bedroom and bathroom were clean and included a fridge, TV, desk with chair and wardrobe. Basic toiletries are provided as in a hotel (toothbrush, comb, etc.) and the air conditioner worked well. There are both Western and Vietnamese breakfast options - try the Cao Lau it's delicious!
All in all, it provided all the comforts of a hotel with a more personal touch through the interaction with the Vietnamese hosts. Best suited for those seeking a more traditional insight to Vietnamese life and a quiet place to stay. Those more inclined to party all night in town might be better off staying elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): 5 Star Hotels could learn about customer service - both the places we stayed in Vietnam could teach 5 star hotels across the world about customer service. Nothing was too much trouble and all given with a genuine smile and desire to help. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
Our charming and friendly hosts offered us free dinner on our night of arrival and again on our night of departure. With local tips and always thinking of our best interests we were more than delighted with our stay and would be happy to recommend this B&B to all travellers who want a little piece of Vietnam away from the "Madding Crowd".
The hand-made farewell card was the extra touch that makes me smile every time I look at it on the window sill in my study.
- Hung (10/5): BEST Homestay & Villa in Hoi An - Sweetest couple ever!!! We stayed in Hoi An for 4 days and it was the best experienced we ever had, thanks to the warm welcome and friendliness of Mr. Tri and Ms. Nguyet, our hosts.
The location of the homestay is really peaceful, quiet and beautiful with the view of the river, the fresh smell of the Tra Que vegetables, the paddy field with water buffaloes, cows make it a perfect scenery. The amenities, furniture and the decoration inside are also really nice and clean. Also not to mentioned Ny, a lovely and cute doggy that really enjoyable to play with.
We are so lucky to have such an wonderful hosts, as they take time showing us around the city, traveling to Tam Ky by motorbike, enjoying the local street food and helps us to find the best tour for scuba diving in town. Along with that are their friendliness, super awesome characteristic of them as they have done for us so many favors during this trip that it's more than a host: they are truly a friend and make us like a family to them.
Those things make this homestay STAND OUT the most and for us the BEST homestay in Hoi An.
I will come back again and strongly recommend the Moon River Homestay & Villa for anyone who would be in Hoi An.
Thank you so much again anh Tri, chi Nguyet for everything you have done for us during this best trip!
- Verified traveler (8/5): A nice stay - In general, the hostel is nice for relaxation. The bathroom and wifi service are good. The staff there were very nice and helpful. However, it is not very convenient to get to some tourist spot from the hostel.
- Patricia (10/5): Excellent homestay - Mr. and Mrs. Tri will welcome you into their home and treat you like VIP. The villa is about 10 mins drive away from the main city, but our hosts were kind enough to drive us into town whenever we wanted to go, and let us know that we could go to their office in town to get picked up. They also have bicycles for guests to use. They took us out to try local food and we experienced local activities with them. We had a wonderful trip in Hoi An because of them. The villa is situated in a farm near the river so it is quiet and peaceful. We loved staying at the Moon River Villa!
