Guest Reviews
- Frantz (3/5): Beautiful property but needs serious renovation and increase food quality - Beautiful property on the beach. But the rooms need renovation including AC. The property has so much potential The food was terrible. One of my worst food experience.
- Chantal (4/5): - Ne recommanderons pas ! trop de puces
- Orlando (7/5): -
Vuelvo a repetir... NUNCA SE GUIEN POR LAS FOTOS.
- Philippa (10/5): This is by far the best hotel in Barahona! - The hotel is fantastic! The rooms are spacious and beautifully designed giving the impression of a truly unique and private experience despite being in a hotel. The breakfast was great and the menu at the restaurant was comprehensive enough to suit all our needs! Our daughter specially loved and appreciated the little extras she was given with her pasta. The hotel is beach front, and while it is a pebble beach, the reef makes beautiful and safe natural pools to swim in which was perfect for our eight year old! The pool and jacuzzi are lovely additions and the comfortable seating on the terrace meant we could watch the sunrise while enjoying our coffee. Nothing!

- Gomez (9/5): Lovely Place - La ubicación frente al mar fue inolvidable. Y la comida excelente. Se necesitan Más ventiladores en la habitación. Al menos en verano.
- Lsepulvedai (9/5): Superb -
- Alana (10/5): 100000/10 staff - Wow, the staff here are second to none. My partner got sick on this trip with typhoid fever and the staff were so kind. They took us the hospital, arranged specialist food and medical care. I can’t thank them enough for everything they did.
- Candelario (4/5): The staff was good, place it’s old and maintenance was not up to date, room was big but no what they advertised for a fa - I like the views It’s old and out of maintenance
- Marceli (8/5): Very good - Proximity to the sea It is a bit run down, no hot water
- jean (10/5): Cadre magnifique et tranquille - Bon accueil. Chambre spacieuse, bonne literie. Seul point un peu négatif pas de climatisation et ventilateur très bruyant. Vue sur piscine et sur la mer. Cadre magnifique. Calme. Bon petit déjeuner et bon repas (cher)
- David (10/5): - not our first time here ! good bang for the buck 💵, it’s not perfect but it is , enjoy the view and relax 😎
- Ney (6/5): Good stay when visiting tourist areas in the Deep South of DR - Beachfront and pool right in front of my room. Great customer service at the hotel No A/C in a hot room only a cheap fan, some ants in the bed at night and hot water will come and go. Food prices at the restaurant a little expensive for what you get.
- Jessy (2/5): - Aweful! From check in to check out. The staff does everything via texts to who knows who. Forget about resting, room are hot as hell, no running water in room (had to go to another persons room to brush), pool is unusable and the staff has no sense of hospitality. Of all the hotels I have stayed in Barahona this is by FAR the worst; stay away and save your money. Overpriced for no reason.
- Liza (8/5): - Amazing property, beautiful, nice, and clean, only negative was that there is not AC, other than that I love how clean it was.
Another negative, the restaurant has a dish that I ordered for $800 pesos and the lady at the restaurant charged double the price for the tourist, I ended up paying almost $2,000 for the dish and one small beer. Keep an eye on your orders and if possible take a picture of the menu when you order. Or just go eat elsewhere.
Other than that, I absolutely recommend this hotel.
- Santana (4/5): Disappointing - Beach view Not as advertised. Very poor hygiene. Uncomfortable bed. Lots of mosquitoes/bugs. No TV/entertainment.
- Elizaveta (8/5): Adorable place!! 🌸 - Stunning views. Beautiful and clean rooms. Very sweet stuff. Tasty food. I wish they have AC. The rooms have only fans and during the night was stuffy to sleep.
- Uribe (9/5): Superb -
- Ana (2/5): - Quiero cancelar no es lo que ofrece la página
- Shubha (6/5): Pleasant - The location The water was not running in the bathroom, or was really cold. The bedroom wasn’t clean.
- Uribe (7/5): Good - Good the breakfast is to be more nice Good change somtenn
- Laura (3/5): Poor - It was clean and the room was nice 1st night there was water, but it was salty. The next day we woke up without water in the restroom. Also, the room was by a major highway so it has a lot of noise. There was a party in the bar close to the room until 6am
- juan (4/5): - room was dirty, bathroom poor condition, take water of after 10pm and back at 6am, didnot make room, fan didnt work properly and make noise, restorant didnt have the food ofer in the menu, personel poorly trained.
- Irisz (6/5): Pleasant - The view was amazing. They cleaned nicely the room. The breakfast was great. We had dinner there as well what was OK. When you took a shower it was only super cold water.
The beach was dirty.
- Michael (7/5): relaxing, confortable rooms, good food choices in restaurant and friendly staff - location with beach front access and wonderful sunset and sunrise views. Friendly staff shower needs replacement in our room. Water pressure was not strong enough and hot water only worked once in a while.
- Alexander (6/5): - El agua
- Alexander (4/5): 5-STAR scenic location and friendly staff but disappointing room - Staff was very friendly and the food was overall "good." The room that we got was terrible. Only one 110 electrical outlet for the fan only. No A/C. Unable to open windows. Did not feel comfortable sleeping with the patio doors open at night. We roasted. Worn out and shower enclosure. Wife got no hot water in the shower, but I finally got some. You might want to stop offering this particular room for now. Some of the other hotel rooms looked much better.
Overall, hotel complex shows it has some deferred maintenance needs. Lots of potential.
- Harold (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (3/5): Poor -
- Harold (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ivanna (9/5): Lovely stay with amazing view - The property is beautiful, staff is very friendly, room is very comfortable and despite no having A/C it was very fresh at night, the mosquito net was very much appreciated! Breakfast is very simple, it was toast and eggs in our case (but I think you can choose toast and something else), as someone who cannot eat bread, had to order some smashed plantains (mangu) with an extra cost.
- Arlenys (10/5): - Marcos was amazing, the area is beautiful.
- Melsantos (7/5): Good -
- Jean (7/5): Good -
- Ronal (10/5): - muy adecuado todo y excelente vista al mar desde las habitaciones.
- Carlota (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful view and amazin sunrise from our room. There's a beautiful pool with cool water that feels great with the heat. The owner Marco is super nice and welcoming. Confortable and well equiped rooms. We'd definetly repeat! Mayebe waitresses could be a little bit nicer.
- Rafael (7/5): Lovely ecolodge hotel with spectacular view - The view is spectacular, and loved the small swimming pool to relax and watch the sea and the sunset. There was access to a small beautiful beach, a bit rough sea for me. The staff is extremely attentive and very nice, ready to accommodate your whims. The food was fresh and delicious, and the chef was quite excellent. Having a mosquito net on the bed is a must (this is important because we visited another joint in Pedernales and it didn't have one, resulting in quite a few mosquito bites!) Not having a chair in the room to sit, though there was plenty on the balcony, off the room. Having just one fan is not enough for two people. I must add, though, that my daughter in another room asked for an additional one, and she got it,
If you are allergic to mosquitoes, the natural repellents, those hailed as organic, don't seem to work. So bring one with DEET, those really do the job. I found it peculiar not to have a courtesy bottle of drinking water. But recall that this is an ecolodge and not your typical hotel.
- Luis (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. The location, the food and the staff .
- Carolina (10/5): Great place to connect with nature and relax - Loved the location, the staff was amazing (specially Marco).
The food was really good and the room nice and clean.
Wifi worked perfectly 👌 Unfortunately the beach had a lot of trash, even tho the hotel cleans it every day humanity screws it again.
- Eva (1/5): Stay anywhere else. My stay was horrible - This place was filthy. No working toilet in the room. The beds were incredibly dirty. Stay at oasis encantando over this place. Rooms were dirty, beds was lined with dirt, shower curtain had black stains all over, no wifi, no working toilet, rooms are incredibly hot and they only provide a cheap fan (at least a ceiling fan would be better)
- Justina (10/5): I will definitely refer this eco lodge to my friends - Excellent service There’s nothing to not like
- Tamara (2/5): - FILTHY, DINGY, DEPRESSING & FLY INFESTED. We did not stay! Would rather throw myself off of a cliff into the Atlantic instead. We pity the kind owner. Such wasted gorgeous views.
- Ericka (10/5): I Love it. it exceeded my expectation. - Casa del mar Loged, exceeded my expectations. The staff From Marcos the manager to the girls and chefs, they felt like a big happy family. They were so accommodating and happy to be there working. The place is magical. For example, the views and beach the room are so Mediterranean style. the room don't have ac, but it has a fan. The bathroom has hot water. The food the chefs made were great. The security guard were really nice too. The maintenance workers were so nice too they even washed my car. I would definitive come back, and I do recommend casa del mar Loged. I didn't like there were not common area with filter drinking water. I would suggest small fridge in the room too.
- Marlenne (4/5): Abandoned hotel... - The view is amazing, the food was good and the staff was friendly. The whole place looks abandoned. There was no decor in any of the spaces. Everything was full of dust, mold including dead cockroaches in the bathroom, and the smell of humidity... the pool and jacuzzi weren't clean. Also, do not expect to have: bottled water, bath soap, coffee maker, or pool towels. None of these were provided. You only get a room with the bed, towels, and a fan. The lack of general care for the place was just sad as the property has a lot of potential. However, for what it is, it's highly overpriced
- Cristin (10/5): - This was a beautiful hotel, very nice and quiet. Very helpful staff. We had a very relaxing time. The food at the restaurant was great. I loved the vibes, the view of beach, the pool area. We don't speak much Spanish but the owner/manager spoke english, was very nice and helpful, and was always hanging around. He gave us some tips on some activities in the area. We ended up going to a natural pool down the road, Balneario Villa Miriam. It was beautiful.
- Dominga (10/5): - Vista espectacular, trato amable y servicial, buena piscina
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - they was amazing was excellent
- Lucia (9/5): Superb -
- Melissa (10/5): You don’t want to leave and they’ll make you feel at home. - Very relaxing and pleasant. The entire staff from the security guard to the chef are very welcoming. The hotel administrator, Marcos, was exceptional in his service and treatment towards my husband and I. The security guard Manuel referred us to Wilton for our tour guide; best recommendation for our entire trip. They treated us as if we were one of the family. Will definitely return to the hotel. Room service comes with an additional cost.
- Yassin (8/5): Very good -
- Karolina (10/5): Best place to relax - Everything was fantastic, food at hotels restaurant always fresh, staff amazing, feels like home. Hotel manager Marco was always here if we needed something, from food recommendations to suggestions on evening plans.
- Diana (7/5): Good -
- Rosita (7/5): Good - Good and peaceful location but the hotel owner need to invest in keeping a good maintenance in the bathrooms, showers and toilets, those things definitely need to be repaired-updated besides the lightning in the room. I’d recommend adding AC to all rooms, fans are not enough to deal
with hot temperatures. The bathrooms, showers, room lightning and bedding, sheets and towels are worn and looking old.
- Jean (3/5): left 15 minutes after checked in. - nice location and well positioned no AC in the room when it is about 95 degrees outside. No TV in the room
- Madelaine (4/5): Hitel needs an upgrade. Friendly staff - the view was amazing the hotel is run down. the security closes the only gate in/out of the hotel at 12:30am. if you decide to checkout the town you would be locked out
- Jasmin (8/5): nice hotel - location price
- Anderson (9/5): Superb -
- Grullon (8/5): Very good - beautiful view and amazing people!!!! that they didn’t have Air-condition :/
- Victor (8/5): Very good -
- jean charles (10/5): - Un lugar de descanso exclusivo a orillas del mar
- Pablo (6/5): - No A/C no TV don’t have a generator for black outs
- Briana (10/5): - Staff friendly and helpful. They got us a waterfall tour scheduled. Bar has great drinks. Fresh juice. Food is not great, but the views pools and common areas are wonderful. It is definitely island lodge living. No a/c but the fan and windows/sliding door open it was comfortable for us. If you’re a resort traveler you might not be comfortable here. Someone who appreciates easy living, beautiful scenery and island life this is the place. Bathroom could use a little cleaning/detailing but keep in mind this not a typical hotel, it’s a retreat lodge style.
- Christopher (10/5): - Beautiful eco friendly hotel, with a beautiful view, I love this hotel I will definitely come back.
- Rosa Linda (8/5): - Recomendable buen ambiente
- neibi melo (2/5): - Do not visit this hotel!! AWFUL SERVICE & OVERPRICED FOR BAD FOOD AND BAD ROOMS!!!!!!!
- Jammie (2/5): Recommend for couples - The place didn't have a TV as stated as part of the package, they don't have AC and no fridge, the jacuzzi doesn't work, the beach wasn't cleaned up so you can't even go in the beach and this is not kid friendly place more for like adults.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel is in a beautiful place. No A/C in room just fan. Great view from room. A little outdated. Breakfast was good. If you plan to stay one night is good more that I don’t think is ideal.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Víctor, Suhey and Italian staff are great. I can’t say the same to others. Cleanliness are super poor, mosquitos, cockroaches inside the room, the sheets, towels and mosquitos trap around the bed need a new one, floor fans not working properly, we stay 2 nights no one clean our room, the knob doors and sliding doors damage, we need to make noise to try to open and close it. Bedding need change have bumps, no one clean the common areas, beach stairs, need bleach everywhere, every curtain need robe desinfected and clean urgently, trash can, toilet cover broken. We never said anything because it was our first bad experience in RD. In this travel we been in Samana, Santo Domingo, Pedernales and the worst experience in Barahona. At least I need to say the property outside looks very good and Mediterranean style, need someone who can give the proper maintenance daily, someone who want to refurbish inside out, to put every detail in proper order. Looks very abandoned place. The food was good and cook at the moment, not to many options, but is ok. Make a detailing cleaning, paint and is going to look better. Hope the owners take action because is a really pontential property and pretty common areas
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Only recommended for sleep no more than one night because there’s not to many option and at least the common areas, restaurants, bar are beautiful, but need many replacements
- Verified traveler (10/5): Exquisito paisaje - Muy bien solo que el desayuno y la cena con muy pocas variantes de platos. Oferta muy básica.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The external property was beautiful. Restaurant area was beautiful. Lots of mosquitos though (not their fault). The food was not very good except the bruschetta was excellent. However, our room had a lot of bugs and blood stains on the sheets. We switched rooms and there were still lots of bugs blood. We ended up sleeping in our car and were denied a refund.
- Luis (6/5): - Poor maintenance facilities, room not clean properly, food option very limited, no hot water. Wilmi was a great host, the rest of the staff needs proper training.
- Alejandra (6/5): - Everything was crazy and really slow service . Food was no to good . This place is nice but they need better service.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The clerk wasn’t wearing a mask, and he was also the waitress
- Julian (8/5): Good place to stay in Barahona area - We were warmly welcomed. We enjoyed the great scenery and cuisine.
- Jacob (10/5): - Awesome view
- MarilinS (10/5): - Loved it and will return, friendly staff and really felt connected with nature here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - This is my second time here. Very beautiful and clean but the service this time was not great. No lights for an entire night leaving us hot and sweating in the room without being able to sleep. Very disappointing didn’t offer any type of compensation or apology or anything. Was told that they had more clients who were paying and to keep it down( playing music by the pool respectively not loud) I obviously was a paying client also! We will not be returning!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great view, no AC - Great view. Not so great service (Specially considering its the DR). They do not have AC which was not highlighted clearly during reservation.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Actually after seeing the condition of the hotel i decided not to stay. Even after being threat with charging me the full stay on my credit card. The place has construction going on which make it dangerous with the materials sprung around. It has not Air conditioning with temperatures jn the 90s degree farenheit. the person in charge recommended we slept with the doors and windows open to help the little floor fan the offer in the rooms.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Beautiful place BUT for $115 a night you would expect an AC or at least a decent celling fan. They gave us a small fan that barely blew air to the bed. I had to place it on top of a chair to get some air. We requested an additional fan and that one runned out when we plugged it in.
Staff was ok and common areas had some nice views of the ocean.
If you don’t mind having no AC on 32C summer then this place is good but honestly not for that price. You can find a place with AC for $60-$80usd a night.
- Meghan (10/5): Great Place! - Casa Del Mar is great!! The view is amazing. Clean rooms. The restaurant has great food. And the breakfast is delivered to the rooms directly. There are 2 pools that look out over the blue ocean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Stop by at least for lunch if you cannot stay! - I highly recommend Casa del Mar for anybody passing through or visiting Barahona province. At least stop by for lunch/dinner. The food is the best I had on my trip to the DR - much better than Santo Domingo restaurants such as Meson de Bari. The paella is world class. The owner is Italian, and it shows. Quality Dominican ingredients are put to use.
The setting for Casa del Mar is truly beautiful, but be aware that swimming will be difficult given the strong currents and rocky shore. I was initially unaware of this and disappointed, but I still enjoyed the pools and actually relaxing from what was otherwise a physically exhausting trip through the country.
A warning if you have back problems: the mattresses and pillows are of low quality - or at least were in my room. This did not present a problem for me, but it might for others.
The setting is truly stunning and staff is great. One of them even washed my car without my asking. They keep this place very clean. I highly recommend this place to unwind, or to take break your trip up from Santo Domingo to Bahia de las Aguilas. The surrounding area is almost shockingly poor if you come from one of the more well-off parts of the world. I did not have any problems, but it might be a shock for some. I mostly stayed within the hotel given that I had already had an active trip in other parts of the country. I will definitely visit this place again when I pass through the area. It is a much better deal than Casa Bonita.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is very nice and quite, the staff wonderful people v
- karen (8/5): - Great location right on the ocean. View spectacular. Restaurant very good. Bed was too hard for my liking.
- Roberto (10/5): - The eco-friendly hotel complex was very confortable, beautiful swimming pools, the restaurant and bar offer great variety of drinks and foods. The location of the hotel allowed me to visit many on the attractions that Barahona can offer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent - If you are loonking for a pleasant place to stay while in Barahona, this is the place to stay. My family and I, Love it!! very echo friendly. The staff were great! William and the rest of the staff made it very welcoming, yhey wery helpfull and courteous at all time. I would recommend this place..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I had a great time it was peacfull and clean , great personal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Overlooking the Caribbean - Nice, if small, rooms but large verandas overlooking the garden and Caribbean. Nice pools but the beach is a bit problematic (more gravel than sand). Well landscaped, good food and very nice staff. A good get-away-from-it-all place.
- Karla (10/5): Amazing place - This is paradise, away from the city, calm, serene, and a perfect place to connect with nature with ocean waves sound and view. Staff were so pleasant, specially Luis. Breakfast was decent and fresh. Wish they had more natural juices option. was very helpfull and nice too. Pool view to kill! Love love this place, wish i have gotten a villa with the front pool. We stayed 2 nights. Beautiful island. Must visit Bahía de las aguilas. Oh, loved Capitan!
- Niurka (8/5): Good - Beautiful ocean view , great location 15 minutes from one of the beautiful beach San Rafael, 39 minutes from paraíso beach. Food expense and not good.the hotel was great nice good customer services
- Rucht (10/5): Very nice place/ amazing view - My fiancé and I spent 2 nights there during spring break and we have an amazing time. We go there late a night and they actually made us a very nice dinner.
Regardless the most important thing is that when we wake up next morning, the view from our room was so amazing! Beautiful, breathtaking. So much that we wanted to extend our stay. Casa Del Mar is definitely one of the most beautiful hotels in the area and the price is just right!!
- JAMES (10/5): Excellent Getaway, Great Staff and Location - Overall, great place to stay. Excellent property right on the beach. Very clean, quiet, very nice tropical, decor. Beautiful view from the infinity pool. Very good location with respect to tour pick-up and drop-off, and just 15 minutes away from the city by car. A very friendly, professional and attentive staff. The menu doesn't have many vegetarian options, however the chef worked with us and was exceptional in improvising in preparing our meals. The beach is not very "swim-able", in that the waves are strong and the shore is rocky. However, there are some spots where you can wade in. If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be to have a small refrigerator in the room, so if you wanted to grab something locally or if you have some special dietary preferences/needs, you could store the items in the fridge. There were issues with Wi-Fi while during our stay, so it wasn't available.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Encounter with Nature!!! - Very Small hotel but nice. No AIr Conditioner just fan which was a little bit uncomfortable since its very hot in Dominican Republic.
The sunset is amazing very nice view..
The hotel has alot of nice views.
- Maria (2/5): Casa Del Mar Nightmare - We never stayed, after traveling on a bus for 3hrs and a taxi for one hour to get to Casa Del Mar they never found my reservation even after showing them my reservation email. I believe they gave our room to someone who came first. Now we had to take another taxi and go from Hotel to Hotel looking for a room, what a headache.
