The only note I would make is that we were informed by a cafe that you shouldn't drink the water accoriding to notices frim the council. We were not informed by the motel and there were no signs in the room or by the taps. The manager said they had a sign on the counter which was noy pointed out and that they drank the water? I would suggest you dont drink the water if youre staying there

Verified traveler (6/5): 3 Star at best - Receptionist/owner was kind enough to let us check in quite early which we appreciated very much! She was helpful in pointing out a nice walk and mentioned a few good places to eat. Our room was ok. Nothing fancy but we took advantage of dining in since the kitchenette was well equipped. There was no a/c so we left windows open for a breeze. Problem was bugs entered during the night. Also, we could not regulate hot or cold water. It was either scalding or freezing. Operator error on our part? Good enough for a quick overnight to split up the only way to get from Christchurch to Picton due to road closure.

A really nice size room which had doors out onto a balcony It was very clean tidy and had everything we needed for an overnight stay. On the corner of the Main Street and close to 2 supermarkets. I would definitely recommend.

Stephen (10/5): Night's rest and a bit of NZ history. - Reefton is an interesting town. But this hotel was priced about 15% higher than most comparable places that we stayed during 40 days in NZ. Neither the location nor the facility justify the additional cost.

Would have liked to stay longer to be able to sit on the balcony and relax. Felt like we were back in time but in a really nice way. Very relaxing away from the fast life in the big cities.

The manager was great she waited for us (late check in). We were supposed to leave early the next morning but stayed until we had to check out at 10am that is how comfortable the place was...
Sarah (10/5): Brilliant and Welcoming! - It was raining when we got there and thunder storm all night so didn't really get to see the town. Managed to go for a quick wander in the rain and I'd definitely come back here. Historical town with abandoned buildings in the surrounding area and in a beautiful location. The lady at the motel was wonderful. She was so hospitable and just lovely and welcoming. The room was way more than expected I thought just a bed and bathroom but it's the whole package. Lounge, kitchen and bathroom. My daughter even got her own bedroom. I'd come back here again!

Bruce (10/5): Comfortable, clean motel in an historic setting - I enjoyed a one night stay at the Lantern Court Motel. On arrival I was upgraded to a larger suite because the small studio I'd booked was having its carpets cleaned. The friendly manageress was most helpful offering advice on local places of interest. I enjoyed the spaciousness of the larger studio and if visiting again would consider paying extra for the same. The riverside walk with various points of historic interest was a good way to unwind after a long drive. One of the local cafe/restaurants makes great take out pizzas which I sampled. I was able to take advantage of the well stocked local store which was open until 7pm.

Wish we had allowed more time to be in & around Reefton, ran out of time to do lots more sight seeing, darn it....

Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Room, but not quite finished. - Great location in the centre of Reefton with a very friendly and helpful manager. We upgraded from our booking due to the significant difference between the room we booked and the better room. The room was good but the motel on the whole was not in great condition as it was being worked on - the entrance was blocked by scaffolding, workmen were loud and seemed to start before 8am, the cold tap in the bathroom needed tightening and a painter knocked on the door at 9.15 to see if he could touch up some paint. So while the room was on the way to being very comfortable, it was still being finished. We also killed a largish Whitetail Spider, which may have come in with a previous tenant or may have been a local, but in any case, treating the room for insects might be a good idea. We had trouble with the wifi, which may have been related to earlier lightening strikes, and the manager was very helpful in sorting out a work-around. After we checked out, we took a nice walk (suggested by the manager) on a loop past the old power station and through town. It was a nice stay and once the work is complete, I'm sure it will be very comfortable.
Ewen (8/5): Haven in Reefton - One night stand after a long day's travel ! Upgraded to a 2 b/room unit. (eliminated the indescribable noise from sleeping brother !!) Very comfortable. A return visit and will stay again.
