Guest Reviews
- Lea (9/5): Great location to dice rainbow reef - Very nice gardens, bungalows and overall resort. Close to rainbow reef for diving. Friendly and helpful staff and great food. Really a little garden paradise. Showers and rinse tanks at the dock would be nice. Internet is only in vommon areas which makes people be on their phones often in common areas instead of interacting. I think if internet was also i. bungalows it would become a bit more social as everyone can catch-up in their own time.
- Hugh (9/5): Beat our expectations - would definitely come back - While the words "dive resort" should have given us a heads up, we didn't actually book here originally to dive, since it had been decades since we had done so. We had heard that the island was a gem to visit with waterfall hikes, special rare flower and we expected the snorkelling to be good. Everything was much better than expected and we got to dive as well which as a real treat. Location is so close to the reefs and the colours, and fish variety - spectacular. Oh and one more thing, I didn't realise that meals were included so that was another big bonus. Because they do not use air conditioning, the cabins naturally heat up during the day. But for some reason, at dusk, the staff closes all of the blinds, thinking people want privacy, when this act ends up trapping the heat in. The cabins are so well spaced apart and with vegetation and tress surrounding them that the privacy thing was never an issue anyway.
- Philippa (10/5): Relaxing and invigorating! - The location was beautiful. All the staff took great care to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The reefs were stunning with a wide variety of sites to explore. There is nothing to fault.
- Jacky (10/5): Beautiful bures, lush gardens, welcoming staff, great food, and world-class diving - a true paradise - An unforgettable stay with fabulous staff, warm Fijian hospitality, beautiful clean bures in gorgeous gardens, amazing dives with excellent instructors, delicious food, and a truly welcoming atmosphere — highly recommend for divers! The Rainbow reef is truly an underwater wonderland

- Christian (10/5): An amazingly beautiful resort! - The staff was outstanding.
The restaurant always changed the menu and everything has been really good and tasty.
The villa and the garden were very well maintained.
The boat personnel has been very friendly, very safe, and very skilled. Nothing.
- Friedrich (1/5): Damp rooms and defensive management - The Fijian staff were very friendly. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend the Taveuni Dive Resort for the following reasons:
- The rooms (seats, bedding, bathrobes etc. were damp and even when changing the paints they became damp again after half an hour.
- The management showed no understanding and gave no price reduction, even if you had to change the damp room after one night for health reasons (prescribed by the hospital). The only assistance was a transfer to the airport or to another resort.
- Booked room with sea view, reality see photo. - My wife, who had fallen ill during the trip, was called a dumbass by the manager on departure.
- The price-performance ratio is in no way in line with the infrastructure and management compared to other resorts on Taveuni.
- Anastasiia (10/5): All boxes of a good and high quality holiday were ticked off. - Remote location of the resort, beautiful views, friendly staff, delicious food and scuba diving / snorkeling trips make the resort the perfect place for a recharging trip.
- Robert (10/5): - The Bures are private and large, beds very comfortable. The setting and grounds are beautiful, their Staff works EXTREMEMLY HARD EVERYDAY. Everyone smiled all the time and service was perfect everyday ! Food is Chef Quality Liza, the Chef was excellent with her selections everyday. The Bar was perfect and service as well. The diving is the best I have seen in the world for soft coral, the White wall was extremely impressive. All the dives sites are healthy, Lui our divemaster was excellent. Hal who runs the Dive Operation was on point everyday. Can't say enough about the whole staff. My only suggestion is for the Owners to pay their Staff more, they proved to us they definately deserve it !! I've been diving the whole World for 32 years as a Dive Master, Tavenui Dive Resort ranks up there as one of the very best !!
- James (10/5): We came, we snorkelled, explored the island, ate way too much and we were sad to leave - As snorkelers, we weren't sure if we'd fit in at a dive resort, however, our concerns were completely unfounded. Heading out on the dive boat in the mornings and exploring the reef with a guide (while the divers explored other deeper parts of the reef) was exactly the experience we were hoping for. From the moment we checked in, we knew we were somewhere different to any other resort we'd stayed at. First and foremost, the staff are what make Taveuni Dive Resort so special. HIGHLY recommend the meal plan as the food is incredibly tasty and beautifully presented (besides, there's no kitchen in the bures, so cooking your own food is nigh impossible... and why would you want to!?). Speaking of bures, although no air conditioning, the dual fans were sufficient to keep us cool on the hot nights. Windows are all protected with mesh, so no issues with bugs. The shower was great (best in the afternoon when water is hottest). The king (maybe super king) bed was really comfortable. It was quite a novelty for us to have a turndown service! Starlink WiFi Internet is fast, but limited to the restaurant area. Cellphone reception is present, but patchy and slow data rates.
For location, the resort is only a 15min boat ride from the reef. It's a 1.5hr drive to Lavena (one way) over some very rough dirt roads (the sealed sections are a blessing). The dive/snorkel outings are half day activities, so it's possible to do something else in the afternoon. The pool was great afterwards!
Breakfast was selected the night before (at dinner) and had a good range to choose from. The breakfasts were excellent (as was all the food!). All meals are served at the restaurant. The staff catered for gluten free (banana bread was so good). Coffee, tea and filtered water was complimentary (dairy, soy and almond milk was available). Packed lunches can also be booked the night before to pick up at breakfast if heading out for the day. Lighting in the bures takes a bit to figure out. There's a lot of switches and it's quite dim. But if that's all I have to complain about, it really shows how good this resort is!
- David (10/5): The diving is great ,the food is fantastic, the staff are what makes the place special - Great location for diving rainbow reef
- Jestine (10/5): - If you’re coming for a dive trip to Fiji then this is the place to be! The staff goes above and beyond. The service was excellent. The food was sooooo good, I definitely gained some lbs over the course of 5 days. The diving was on another level. The resort is close to rainbow reef, approx 15min boat ride. You avoid enduring lengthy boat rides when staying on the other side of the island. The dive staff was the best we’ve ever been with. Each dive was practically private. It was just my husband, myself and our guide. That alone made it worth all the $ we spent. We’ve dived in other places where it’s groups of 8-10 people which really takes away from the experience. Everyone was so sweet and lovely. We’re definitely coming back!
- Roel (10/5): - Fantastic stay, wonderful cottages (burres), excellent food, friendly/helpful/accommodating owners/staff, and high quality rental dive gear. We're hoping to return with friends in June.
A couple things to be aware of. TDR specializes in SCUBA diving. Your burre looks out onto the best diving in Fiji, the Rainbow Reef. There isn't a beach to hang out on if you're not a diver (or at minimum a snorkeler). Also, the resort is totally off grid - solar hot water & electricity. As might be expected, no air conditioning. Instead, 2 powerful ceiling fans in your burre. We're from Colorado and were fine the 3d week of August 2024.
- James (10/5): - This is a great quality dive resort in an uncrowded region of Fiji in the Northern Division. Food was excellent, staff were fantastic and the diving was Stunningly beautiful! Thanks Carl & all your team for looking after us at Taveuni dive resort, we'll be back!!
- Mckinnon (9/5): Beautiful friendly resort perfect for divers and adventurers - It is a beautiful resort and the bures are really clean and comfortable. The food is wonderful. For us the highlights were the wonderful staff who were so warm and welcoming and the amazing snorkelling and diving experiences. The dive team are just brilliant, caring and meticulous in their attention to safety while showing us the wonders of the rainbow reef.
- Nick (9/5): Lovely staff and accomodation. - Lovely resort, staff so friendly and welcoming. Diving was good- good staff on the boats and very well looked after.
Food was lovely, room very comfortable and quiet. Good shower and lovely bathroom products supplied. Massage also very good.
A very nice peaceful and friendly place to stay. would happily return. Although told about a 3% surcharge on credit card transactions didn't realise this would apply to the whole cost, not just the extras. Think there should be a note on the booking.com website to say that a 3% surcharge will apply to the quoted price.
- Linda (8/5): Nice people, clean spacious rooms, - Terrific rooms, exceptionally clean, friendly helpful staff. Dive master ratio was excellent. - often only one or two divers to a dive master. Even the canines were friendly. Payment for all the costs of the stay was literally done minutes prior to our scheduled departure to the airport. There was no time to analyze the charges.
Often the food was not tasty.
For me, the boats, which are fine for most people, were inadequate because I have back issues. The platforms are so tiny that forward roll-ins from them are cumbersome.
- Farrel (10/5): - Amazing dive masters, fantastic staff, friendly owners, beautiful gardens, exceptional bures, fantastic food, lovely smiles, laughter and fun.
- Barbara (9/5): Lovely stay in paradise - Lovely diving resort where we have had the best food ever . The local is staff is very nice, friendly and helpful and they are a true asset of this resort . We loved the variety of food , fresh vegetables, fish and mainly artistic creations of cook in terms of flavours and decorations ,5 stars top experience .
Room was cleaned daily . Bed was comfortable and we have had a very good sleep .
There were optional activities such as husking of coconuts or kawa ceremony which were very interesting. We also had a massage which was great .
Ambiance was nice and facilitated connection with other tourists at the resort .
It was possible to organise paid trips to waterfall and pearl farm . Snorkelling in a house-reef was also very nice (black sand and sometimes it’s good to dive below 0.5m for a better visibility ) . Diving was beautiful with a large variety of colourful corals.
We appreciated a complimentary transport from and to the airport .
In summary we loved our holiday here. Anti-slip mat in a bathroom was mouldy and reused between tourists . Floors of the room didn’t seem to be cleaned regularly .
We had to ask for heating for hot water quite often when solar panel wasn’t enough to supply power . The owner didn’t want to show us how to switch on the heater so we had to rely on asking him every time .
Overall there were few minor things , but staff was making a lot of effort to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
- Ysanne (9/5): Words can not even describe the amazing staff at the resort. I chose this resort for the diving, which was simply next - As we went for the diving, the location was so close to where we headed off each day. The set up was beautiful and I liked that there are only 8 Bures so not over tan with people That we had to leave so soon
- Janine (10/5): - If you are trying to decide where to go - just pick this property
The staff and people are amazing and that makes your stay. The diving and snorkeling is incredible. It’s worth the trip to the island
The rooms are good, with fans that keep you cool
enough as it’s cooler overnight in Tavenui,
The owners are very good and run a great business, they really care about the guests and it’s boutique with great service.
The diving is very well organised and my 14 yr old son did a discovery dive and loved it. We snorkelled most days and saw amazing things.
Just book it!! And make sure you stay for 5 days or more
- Navid (10/5): - Great staff, lovely dive sites, delicious food, just a great place! Be mindful that a can of coke is 5 dollars and mixed fruit drink are doubly that- it adds up! I would go back!
- Cynthia (10/5): - Taveuni Dive Resort offers beautiful roomy bures (bunglows) surrounded by gorgeous grounds and ocean views. The meal service is bountiful and delicious and the onsite diving service offers several daily dive plus snorkel excursions out to Rainbow Reef. They are also happy to assist in setting up tours around the Island including Bouma National Park and waterfalls. Each and every staff member from dining to diving provides exceptional service.
- jeffrey (10/5): Perfection in Paradise - We went for the world class scuba diving. We were not disappointed. The reefs are pristine and the life is abundant. The resort is ran by an American couple. It is In perfect condition and is ran like clockwork, very organized. From the time we got off the plane, all we had to do was relax!
- Annie (9/5): We have a good time here! - We wanted a isolated place blocked away all of buzzy from noisy world, and enjoy a relaxed vacation. This is a ideal choice. We usually go snorkelling in the morning which you can see the most beautiful corals and myriad fish. In the afternoon, we hanged around pool, laid on the chair, read and listened music. The food are delicious. The staff and owner’ couple are nice and took good care of us.
- Joseph (10/5): Paradise Found!
Go - Beautifully landscaped grounds. Top notch service. Gorgeous location close to the reef No complaints
- Emma (10/5): wonderful and memorable holiday. - resort room is clean and tidy, food is nice. Everyone is helpful and dive masters are professional. No air conditioner. 😅
- Thompson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janet (8/5): Very good -
- Kathleen (6/5): Pleasant -
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional - Spent 6 nights here. Absolutely beautiful room and resort with incredible staff from housekeeping, F&B, driver, boat crew, diving and snorkelling guides, maintenance and entertainment. All go out of their way to ensure your holiday is wonderful. Food very good. I went out on snorkelling trip 4 times whilst my friend dove. Absolutely spectacular. We also did a couple of excursions outside of the resort.
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful resort accommodation and great place to stay in Taveuni. Food was fantastic. Great to snorkel the Rainbow reef. Enjoyed every minute! Limited transport options. Resort should provide more information about the public bus
- Victor (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): - This place is the bomb. Rooms beautiful- diving stunning. Dive guides the most relaxed skilled crew - the food great. The walks nearby peaceful - the ocean clean. I love this place.
- Brett (6/5): Pleasant -
- Craig (10/5): - Had an amazing time at Taveuni Dive Resort. Such a peaceful place. The staff were all so friendly, made you feel like part of the family. Hal and the dive team are next level. Cannot recommend this resort and dive experience enough, just amazing.
- Gabi (10/5): - Absolutely loved staying at the Taveuni Dive Resort. Professional and friendly staff, excellent food, lovely setting. Would definitely come again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Big beautiful clean rooms in an amazing setting! The service was equally amazing.
- Jeff (10/5): - Absolutely everything one could want in a luxury dive resort. Exceptional service, wonderful cuisine, friendly staff, outstanding dive conditions, short walk or ride to the marina, and best of all the crew handles all your gear so you don’t have to worry about anything and can focus on enjoying your stay. The Rainbow Reef is a world class destination and among the best for blooming soft coral and tropical fish variety. Highly, highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great diving base - This resort is targeted at divers and offers a calm, peaceful and lush base for a great diving trip. Staff in general were very friendly and helpful. The manager went out of his way to check in occasionally to see if all was ok and if we needed anything.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff is not only friendly but happy as well. Very nice rooms. Warm water for showering is the only problem.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Boutique Gem! - Comfortable, clean, spacious rooms. Friendly and attentive proprietors & staff. Great food. Close to excellent diving.
- CT (10/5): - I loved the everything about this place!! Cocktails are a bit expensive though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great food, friendly staff, loved the accommodations, diving staff was great!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect stay and bit of luxury for dive holidays - The resort is perfect. It’s bit pricey though foodwise and diving but it’s worth it.
The bures are clean, spacious and comfy beds. The food is yummy abd it’s easy going with the pre-order. The cater for vegetarians and you’re not just getting the sides or anything boring. Jyst give yourselves time for breakfast (1hr before the dive), if there are multiple guests. Staff is super friendly and it’s a great hospitality.
The diving is awesome and the team is professional. Reef is intact and you see lots of small fish and corals. 2 tank dive in the morning and if there are 2 people you can do another dive in the afternoon.
We hired once the boat in the afternoon fir snorkeling and going to a beach on Vanua Levu. The boat hite is far too expensive with FJD 600.
