Guest Reviews
- Maureen (10/5): - Warm welcome by a very friendly and helpful person on reception. Room was clean and had everything required for an overnight stay. The hotel is within walking distance to a large shopping area and several different types of restaurants It’s also just a few minutes drive to Le Shuttle terminal
- Nigel (10/5): Great one night stay - A no frills hotel that is ideal for an overnight stay. Clean , comfortable and quiet. Good location in Calais for restaurants and shopping. A microwave and coffee machine available in reception
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overpriced room - The room wasn’t in very good condition. It needs a lot of work. The price is too high for what you get but when you want 1 room for three people, you don’t have many options.
- Bianca (4/5): Okay for one night - It was easy to check in and everything worked well. The general cleanliness was okay, I think it looked worse because the room was very run down. The room looks onto the open hallway and unfortunately a group of people spend the evening smoking outside and it drifted into the room even with the windows closed…which made the room very hot and smelly! The breakfast was ok. The person there in the morning was very friendly. It was all bearable for one night but I don’t think I would go back.
- David (8/5): My trip - Modest room but adequate
- Jan (10/5): - Due to our vehicle breaking down we needed a place to stay while the vehicle was fixed. From the moment we arrived the staff couldn't have been more helpful, helping us source a garage, making us feel comfortable and welcome the whole time. We found that local buses are free, so we still had opportunities to explore the area, though we loved the walking too. We would highly recommend this hotel.
- Jon (10/5): - Nice staff, quiet area.
- Constantia (4/5): - Check in was challenging as we were not given the right code upon booking, it was also very automated no staff at all around so anyone above a certain age will have a difficult time trying to check in. Rooms are very small but clean. I would think twice before booking again.
- Chris (10/5): - Cheap
- Richard (2/5): - Turned up and automatic check in code wouldn't work. It was 3am in the morning. No one to ring so couldn't get into hotel.
Very unimpressed
- Simon (10/5): - Ideal location for using Le Shuttle. Good value, comfortable room.
- Daniel (10/5): - Great A+++
- Amanda (10/5): - Excellent facilities and location to local restaurants. Very friendly staff.
- Birgitt (10/5): Last minute reservation - Last minute stay . But it was easy to book , friendly staff, nice clean room , no problem that I had 2 small dogs , the price for them to stay was very reasonable, the breakfast in the morning was very good , everything fresh and plenty, great selection of food
The only thing that was a bit cumbersome , the hotel had no lift up to the rooms , and as someone with walking problems, it was a bit of an inconvenience.
- Jonathan (8/5): - Felt really safe...Police attendance (guests) was an added bonus, as was having Car parked close to room. As we have had potential trouble in area before with refugees trying to get in our vehicle.
Felt doubly safe with secure compound.
- DAVID (6/5): Good for what you want it to be, check in poor - No check in code sent and arrived late so couldn't check in on machine. All family stood outside in cold trying to get a code. Had to call up to get sorted in the end
- Henrietta (6/5): Nice hotel - The bathroom had been up- dated, which was nice. There was plenty of hot water for showers. Receptionist,he was fantastic!. The only downside was the bed. The mattress was ok,however the the base was a nightmare, every time you moved it creaked. It really does need sorted as a good night sleep is important when traveling. Hopefully, when we book in April this would be sorted (008). Definitely well worth the money for everything apart from sleep
Thanks
Thanks again
- Simon (10/5): - Great stay before getting train.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Handy stop over with welcoming staff
- Stuart (2/5): - Poor poor poor
- Rupert (8/5): Basic but functional - Hotel was basic but as expected - the bed wasn’t particularly comfortable. The service and greeting from the staff was excellent. Free secure parking. All good for the price as a quick stopover in Calais.
- Omar (8/5): A night at B&B hotel. - Everything was fine, it’s just the smell in the room as if windows have not been opened for a while.
- John (8/5): - Evening menu was limited but adequate
- Linda (10/5): - Cute, and cleaned. The staff is very nice and friendly
- Rebecca (6/5): - Convenient basic hotel if you are catching a late ferry to Calais or leaving Calais early in the morning. Small room with basic amenities and a reasonably comfortable bed.
- Caroline (8/5): - Clean, comfy and convenient, not far from Calais le shuttle terminal. Easy self-check in’ after hours.
- Henrietta (8/5): Cheap and cheery - Sound proof rooms, the bed was creaky, however slept well. There are lots of shops within walking distance. Bathroom needs renovated, even just replacing the sealant would help with the appearance.
- Michael (2/5): Be sure you know what you’re booking!!!! - Basically we didn’t. Before Covid we stayed at Ibis Sous La Manche by the Chunnel. Ibis has gone. We thought we were booking the same hotel. No.
We arrived at this hotel. No staff. Followed instructions at a keypad. Got a room number. Entered the door. Small room with chairs on tables, shutters down at counters.
How to get to the room? So opened more doors to outside and found we had to climb up concrete steps to our room. Carrying suitcases etc!!!!!!!!!!
Room was very very basic. No staff anywhere. We were in isolation. NO NO NO
Carried cases back to car. Drove to B&B Hotel Calais Terminal Cité de l’Europe3* our old Ibis.
Booked a room with friendly staff in attendance, lift, dining facilities. Lovely.
Why use the name Sous La Manche? Confusing.
- Tracy (10/5): - Clean and quiet great for our overnight stop
- marle (8/5): - No hairdryer
- Gary (6/5): Small room - Room was small and a little cramped. Been in better B&B hotels
- Jose (8/5): Good value for money - welcoming receptionist, very friendly and helpful. Room was a decent size, comfortable bed. Could do with a lift though stairs were somewhat manageable. Nearby restaurants give a 10% discount for hotel guests.
- Ibraheem (6/5): - The entire building and rooms need thorough cleaning.
Receptionist are very nice and helpful
- Mandy (8/5): - Good value for one night sleep
- Jamie (2/5): - No one would let person in property unless he had a card, he couldnt book in, i messaged hotel multiple times, call multiple times to let them know he was delayed. Had to then book another hotel for him to stay, appalling experience
- Omar (10/5): - Easy access and convenient for travellers on the Shuttle. Huge retail park around.
Staff at reception very nice.
- Khalid (4/5): - My daughter slipped down the stairs(in the room), causing her arm to bruise and her skin peeling (she still feels pain). I my self slipped on 2 steps but was fine. The stairs are not safe at all
- philippe (10/5): - Excellent value for money and very helpful and friendly staff!
- James (8/5): - Room was a lot smaller than expected as the photos are very deceptive, however, the mezzanine for smaller sleepers was a great additional to the room. Layout of the hotel was a little confusing and the signage for rooms was limited. Breakfast was good, although a little cramped due to limited space. Parking was the biggest problem as there are nowhere near enough parking spaces for the amount of rooms.
- Helen Sian (8/5): - Reception/manager very helpful and friendly at breakfast time.
Automatic check-in was hassle-free.
- John (10/5): Great stay - Difficult to get code initially but the room was exactly what we needed apart from the air conditioning not working
- Brian (10/5): Good stop over hotel - Good stop over on way to Spain, close to motorway.
Easy access using code at check in late in evening.
No lift and 4 flights of stairs to second floor. Room was clean but bed was very firm, bathroom reasonable size with excellent shower. Good air con system but a bit noisy.
Breakfast was amazing witb loads of choice and good coffee. Member of staff very helpful.
- Mary (10/5): - Nice clean room.
Breakfast was good and very well organised. Staff at breakfast and in reception were excellent.
Very close to the tunnel.
A good choice of restaurants within walking distance.
- michael (10/5): - great budget hotel, ideal for the tunnel or ferries
- Agnieszka (4/5): No Aircon! Customer service is great though - We have booked this hotel for our family overnight stay before heading for ferry as it was advertised that it has an AirCon. Well it's wrongly advertised as the heater/coollers fitted in the hotel rooms are not aircon, they are very old fan heaters/coolers which have radiator inside, and pull air from outside. So if it's hot outside like in the same b&b hotels we have booked in Laval (France) where was 38 degrees outside and 28 at night there was no cool air for the fan cooler to bring and cool the room down. That night in Laval was a hell on earth, as room was extremely hot, unbearable to sleep in. So please bare this in mind when booking b&b hotels.
If it's cool as it was on our return journey in Calais , the room was cool, but the fans in those heaters are very old, and not blowing very well.
Beds are very hard/firm - so if you are a person who likes firm beds that will be perfect for you.
Shower was good, however there were signs of mould/damp on the ceiling, and shower tray cleaned but you could tell it was very old as it had marks which could not be removed anymore, which looked like it wasn't cleaned very well.
Apart of that this b&b hotel is run by a very nice and friendly couple. If there is a problem man comes and fixes it straight away. Extra towels are available on request, internet is good, customer service is great.
If you book through hotels.com you don't get the reference number required for self check in, so please bear this in mind.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bed little bit noisy and the same with air con, just one night sleep.
- Matthew (10/5): - Ideal for what we were after very close to the Channel Tunnel plus local amenities.
- Derek (10/5): - In a good position close to restaurants and just a few minutes away from the tunnel
- Craig (2/5): - Wasn’t able to check in
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value - Really handy for the tunnel and a perfect stop after a long drive. Excellent value. Clean and very well laid out. Very comfortable.
- Michelle (2/5): - Filthy room, no customer services. We left without staying. Never stay here, it’s disgusting
- James (10/5): - Turned up after last check in due to delay on ferry and self service check in was easy to navigate and accomplish, went down for breakfast and the young man greeted us very friendly and due to my very poor French speaking skills catered to us by speaking English. 1st time being out of the country and will not hesitate to book staying here again
- Paul (10/5): - Close to the shuttle basic but clean and convient
- Christine (8/5): - Convenient for the tunnel. Small room but sufficient
- Angela (8/5): - We had a quadruple room for 2 adults and 2 teens (16&14). This was just an overnight stay so we could continue out journey to Normandy early the next morning. The room is small, but having the upstairs section for the boys was perfect. Three bathroom was very small and compact and I wouldn’t have wanted to stay any longer than one night. We arrived about 9pm and gaining access was very easy - to get into the car park, you check in via the terminals outside reception, and get the room code and car park gate code. Overall ok, and would use again for an overnight stay. The Auchan down the road is amazing!
- Paul (4/5): - Property was outdated and dirty, and did not resemble how it looked in the pictures at all. Carpet was older than my kids, beds were almost as if they had been made by a handyman out of solid wood and just overall a terrible experience. Didn't feel safe and would not stay here again!
- Paul (6/5): - .
- Jesus (8/5): Practical and excellent value proposition - Great value for money. A little different to the usual hotel experience while travelling but very practical. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The facilities a bit aged or just not maintained intensively however this did not detract from the comfort and quality of stay. We were surprised to find there are several EV chargers (10+), although not all operational but still several to spare.
- A e (8/5): - Reasonable price, reception service is good with useful information. Staff friendly
- Christine (8/5): Decent enough budget stay - Budget hotel. Rather grim on the outside but fine inside.
No reception when we arrived so used the machine to check in and pay. However, it then referred us to reception to get our code for the room. Pointless excercise. Luckily it was during the day and not the night.
Room basic and bed was comfortable. Sadly no hairdryer but I suppose that comes with budget.
Clean in the main but the details could have some attention I.e the sink plug had slime underneath.
Breakfast was basic but perfectly adequate with decent coffee.
The guy on reception/breakfast was pleasant and efficient.
- Clare (10/5): - Delightful
- Fabien (10/5): Highly recommend for night over before the tunnel - Had a great stay at B and B Hotel with smooth check-in and great welcome by Charles at reception. Room comfy and quiet. Good breakfast. Will definitely come back.
- Amy (10/5): Amazing hotel but website let us down! - Such a beautiful room and location is perfect, only issue we had was the website we booked through!
- Simon (6/5): Old dirty small family room - Very old dirty basic hotel
Very small rooms not sure how the photos were taken to make the rooms look bigger
- Michelle (6/5): Don't stay if arriving late evening - The hotel itself is fine, the room is well set up for a family. Liked the upstairs space. It was clean and functional close to both the tunnel and ferry. However, it isn't in the nicest of areas and unfortunately our sat nav sent us the back way round the commercial centre were we witnessed a very unpleasant scene between some men. This was at 11pm. This distressed our daughter. This isn't the hotels fault just be aware if staying with children. The car park is in a security fence but the gate is broken car alarms were going off so we didn't feel comfortable with all the holiday stuff in the car. We didn't have a great sleep as a consequence.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Pas recommandable pour famille - Chambre familiale minuscule, sombre, mal aérée. Douche infestée de moisissure.
Mauvaise insonorisation.
Petit déjeuner pas a la hauteur des photos sur internet, plus de pain frais a 7h déjà...
Personnel en revanche très aimable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great for quick snooze before heading south
Hotels.com need to provide a booking reference so you can check in without calling their helpline (who were very useful…)
- Graham (8/5): - This was a cheap and cheerful one night stop over after travelling from the North of England to catch the Shuttle to commencde a European holiday. This was close to the terminal and clean and comfy bed. It wasnt the Ritz but the staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Victoria Jane (8/5): - Very close to the tunnel, easy 24 hour check in, although we had to key in our entry number a few times to get access our room!
Motel-style accommodation, with the family room having twin beds on a mezzanine above the en-suite. This meant it was hot at night and the air con didn't work properly. But it was fine for one night and very convenient for travelling through the Eurotunnel.
- Matthew (8/5): Good, but no hot water - No one on reception to help, but someone did help me use the self check-in. No hot water for a shower in the morning
- MS KJ (10/5): Excellent stay - We had an excellent overnight stay. It is what I would call a motel which was a lovely surprise. We were able to park right outside our room. The room was lovely and clean. Bit of mould on grouting at the bottom of the shower but that's due to no ventilation in the bathroom. Otherwise bathroom was also lovely and clean. The mattress was very comfortable. Great night's sleep. Staff very friendly and professional. Excellent breakfast. Will definitely stay again if in the area
- Naomi (6/5): Like paying to stay in jail - a bit harsh maybe. - We stayed for one night (fortunately not more) after a late arrival into Calais from the Eurotunnel. On arrival we didn’t have a booking code, so after trying everything including the Hotels.com booking reference we had to call for help as there was no manned reception. That solved it of course.
It was like paying to stay in jail. Actually that’s a bit dramatic but that was the comment when we arrived. The bed was uncomfortable and noisy but the room was clean. Very little space and very different from the photos when booking. The shower was really good. It certainly wasn’t good value at over £85 for the night.
- Pat (10/5): Marvellous value, friendly and clean. - Lovely welcome on Sunday evening from polite and friendly gentleman. Cosy room. Spotless. Nice to have English channels to watch. Great improvement on the B&B in Rouen ( st etiennne du rouvray) where the reception was rather cold and stiff. Excellent service at breakfast from yet another friendly young man. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. I have already recommended it to friends
- Jonathan (4/5): Used to be good, but the racket!!! - Check in was problematic. We had booked 2 rooms, paying for both. Automated machine claimed only one was paid, so ended up paying again. Room was ckean & tidy. Aur con / heater was yet again non functional, meaning window had to be keft open... ...meaning the noise from the big air pump cutting in and out interrupted sleep, as did the racket from the CRS gendarmes coming and going all night between shifts on Eurotunnel duty.
- Michael (10/5): - Very friendly and efficient staff. Almost missed breakfast as we slept in after a long journey - staff very accommodating. Breakfast still hot and good value.
Alerted us to reduction at Buffalo Grill (saved us 5 Euros)
- James (4/5): Not what we expect from B&B hotels - Found the room very poor bed was constantly making noise every movement you made one pillow if you could call it that the room was depressing not on par with other B&B hotels I have used staff were friendly and efficient won’t use this again
- Stephanie (10/5): Convenient - Comfy bed, reasonably priced, clean, quiet, shower was good, convenient stop off before heading to England on ferry the following day
- Ron (10/5): - Great for an overnight stop. Comfy bed and hot shower.
- Stephen (10/5): - It was basic accommodation but clean and comfortable and the man on reception was very friendly and helpful.
- Colin (10/5): - Simple and effective accommodation. Like the separate single beds for kids up on mezzanine. Bacon and scrambled eggs was nice after weeks of continental breakfasts. Out of hours check in worked fine, received e-mail details day before check in.
- Donna (10/5): - Great if you just want a stop over before or after the eurotunnel crossing. Easy check in if your late arrivals.
- Katie (4/5): - Hi, the toilet seat was broken as was the shower head. Very basic room, very compact. Bed comfortable. A kettle would have been good.
- Catherine (10/5): - Friendly staff on reception. Convenient parking just outside of room, made travelling with 3 dogs a bit easier.
- Frances (10/5): - Great stop off hotel, ideal before a long drive home
- Therese (10/5): Budget, but comfortable hotel - Efficient, friendly check-in; clean room with large, comfortable bed.
- Lesley (6/5): - Serves a purpose for a stopover before the eurotunnel - less than 10min drive away! Breakfast totally adequate although small selection. Rooms with mezzanine level fun for the kids and great use of space. Outside walkways for the rooms feels a little exposed and our room door wouldn't lock so relying on the security only of a need for an access code to enter, not ideal but we arrived very late so didn't have the energy to ask to change rooms. Rooms / floor tired but bedding clean and comfy. Overall for a quick pit stop I would recommend and use again.
- caron (8/5): Does what it says on the tin. - Clean warm and safe. Just a stopover on our way down to Italy. For the price no complaints.
- Hilary (8/5): - Requested to move to their centre hotel
Following this request, another message came welcoming us to our original hotel.
After reporting to the original hotel we were sent to the centre hotel.
Very helpful young lady in reception.
- Jessica (8/5): - Good location for overnight stay before catching train back to UK. Kids enjoyed their little mezzanine sleeping area.
- Maria (6/5): - The service was perfect Cleaner and al the stuf was amenziing apart from cold room wax horrible
- Selina (10/5): - Just needed a bed to sleep. Easy to locate, free parking in front of the hotel. Easy check in. Clean room with big bed.
- R (8/5): Good stay - Staff friendly, very helpful & pleasant.
- patrick (8/5): - Unfortunately the heater did not work..fortunately it wasn’t very cold that evening..everything else perfect.xx
- philip (10/5): - very helpful staff, spoke very good english, better than my french.
good location with shops and restaurants near
very good for a stop over when traveling
- David (8/5): - Ok for a budget stay or overnight stop over.
- William (10/5): - Helpful staff &newly decorated room. Very Good
- Catherine (6/5): You get what you pay for. - The hotel was cheap and clean. Thexwalls were thin and the heating didn't work. Apart from that, fine.
- steve (6/5): - Functional room.
Clean.
Reception lovely.
However by far the worst bed i have ever (not) slept in.
- Sian (10/5): - Great value for money . The breakfast was also brilliant
- Jacqueline (10/5): - Very good hotel, easy to find . Pleasant and helpful staff . Will definitely use again .
