Guest Reviews
- Cyndi (2/5): - A nightmare
- Becky (8/5): - Place looks amazing until you look closer then you notice that upkeep is a little lacking and cleanliness is to - hair in tub, caulking pulling away around unit door and tub, etc. Comfort was great and desk staff was awesome.
They no longer provide breakfast so not really a B&B.
- Tina (10/5): - My grandson loved it
- Harold L (10/5): - A great historical place for anyone wanting to stay at the Dunleith House Inn. It was what we were needing for a quite relaxing weekend. The host at the check in building was super informative and very welcoming. Overall it was a good place for our experience. That being said, the place has potential being a great place if it was kept up better and things need to be repaired along with things it desperately needs like an ice machine, a map of the place when people check in, and a continental breakfast that can turn it into a superior bed and breakfast place. Just an opinion of two people that has stayed in many places in the United States.
- Ashley (8/5): - It was ok but a little loud during the day.
- Christopher (10/5): - Historical restoration of house and grounds makes for a unique experience
- William (10/5): - Most comfortable bedding I’ve ever slept in.
- Michael (10/5): Beautiful Stay - Our stay at The Dunleith was incredible. The home is absolutely lovely as are all of the staff. The food and hospitality at The Castle, located on the property, are first class.
- Ashlie (10/5): - Beautiful property!
- James (6/5): - Dunleath as a whole is grand and beautiful; however, the grounds and facilities are not maintained appropriately. Big broken tree limbs on the ground in parking areas, Ice machine signs, yet no ice machine available other than from the nearby restaurant. The pool looked nice; however, the hot tub was the same cool temperature as the pool. Our room was clean and nice, with comfortable beds. However, the jets in the air bathtub did not work, the coffee machine was broken, and the air conditioner froze up repeatedly throughout the night, and was unable to maintain the room at 72 degrees. Office personnel brought me batteries to replace the depleted ones in the thermostat, while I was trying to troubleshoot the issue with the air conditioner. Hotel management did reimburse us for a portion of the charges for our stay. Dunleath has a lot of potential, but cannot meet future demands unless maintenance of the aging facilities is kept up with.
- Guy (10/5): - Great customer service @ front desk! They’re spot on to bring somethg to your room or right there if you cannot figure out how to turn on the TV. Who does that anymore?? The Castle restaurant had some of the best food I’ve eaten next to my son-in-law’s cooking! I’ll drive 2 hrs just for that steak, spinach salad & mile high banana cream pie! Loved it all…you must try it out! You won’t be disappointed!!!
- Jay (6/5): Not the same Dunlieth since Covid - Not the same Dunlieth. No longer serves breakfast, not even an apple. This is not a bed a breakfast. You should look elsewhere in Natchez for a true bed and breakfast. Property is very dark with minimal lighting. The Castle and the bar is just not the same anymore. This used to be a happening place.
- Jessica (8/5): - This property was great! It doesn’t appear to be kept up…the outside of house is very dirty. Inside was clean! Facility needs more lighting on the outside. Was very hard to see where going at night…had to use flashlight. I was very disappointed when I learned the day of our stay that breakfast wouldn’t be offered. Expedia website stated that breakfast was included.
- John (10/5): - Wonderful!!
- Chris (6/5): - The restaurant and pub were great. The grounds and house need tons of maintenance due to overgrowth around the pool and rotting and buckling wood on the exterior of the main house.
- Lisa (10/5): - Stayed in the 3rd floor overlooking the courtyard! Room very comfortable, had a refrigerator but no microwave. The dinner at The Castle was excellent! Loved the atmosphere as well as the food! Walk around the property as the sun went down & saw a lot of firefly. The staff was very friendly!
- Amie Finley (10/5): - Beautiful house, restaurant and grounds!
- Cbond**@yahoo.com (10/5): - Like stepping back in time! Lovely property. The castle was the best restaurant and right on site. The whole town was a charming adventure.
- Pamela (6/5): - We arrived at 8 pm to find our room unprepared for guests. It hadn’t been cleaned. It took a while to get someone there to clean it, which was an inconvenience, as we were tired from a long day of travel.
Staff very friendly. Food at restaurant was excellent.
We heard a lot of noises during the night, which made it difficult to rest well.
Sounded like someone walking very heavily, or dropping heavy objects on the floor above us.
Interesting experience!
- Sherry (10/5): - I have stayed at other historic homes in Natchez and Dunleith is by far the best! Love this place and will return!! Our room was beautiful, modern and extremely clean! The food at the Castle restaurant is the BEST I have ever had. Fabulous anniversary for us!!!
- Ricky (4/5): - The Castle Restaurant was excellent, food, service, and venue. The one staff person who checked me in and out was great. The condition of the property is deteriorating and will continue to go down in value if not maintained. It’s really disappointing that the owners have just put this property on the shelf!
And lastly, a property of this magnitude should at least serve a continental breakfast. It’s very evident that there’s a problem.
- Vickie (10/5): - Absolutely loved our stay here. Felt like a true Southern Belle. Our room was beautiful. We sat on the rocking chairs on the second floor balcony quite a lot and just enjoyed the luxurious atmosphere. It was very peaceful and quiet. The staff was very friendly. Enjoyed the house tour.
- Virgil (10/5): - Love the history surrounding the property
- Stephanie (8/5): - The staff was very friendly and rectified room/bathroom conditions. The grounds are lovely. The Pub on the grounds was excellent, their staff awesome. The front desk was amazing!
- Savanna (10/5): - Truly a step back in time! Stayed in the main house and it was absolutely stunning. Not the most comfortable bed, but it was authentic. Clean updated bathroom with great shower. Can easily spend a whole evening exploring and no need the leave the property. Will absolutely be back!
- Kevin (10/5): - Beautiful property and very friendly staff. The food at the pub was excellent. Try the pork belly and Caesar salad.
- Daniel (10/5): - Friendly staff. Beautiful property with an excellent restaurant. The room was beautiful and big. This is the first place we have stayed that was extremely quiet. Highly recommend!!
- CINDI (10/5): - A favorite in Natchez
- Verified traveler (10/5): Spring Break 2025 - Although a short stay being one night, the accommodations were very comfortable. The beautiful grounds are an example of the antebellum south and provide a relaxing oasis. The room was extremely quaint and well maintained. Would enjoy staying longer next time.
- LEE (6/5): Make sure to ask for a room in the house! - We were a little disappointed in our room location. We had been here a week before this visit for a music festival, and the house looked amazing, so we booked a room for our return trip.
We got a "basement" room! Not in the historic house!
It is NOT a Bed & Breakfast, just a Bed. It used to be a B&B, but in the last few years it was sold, and is now a "Historic Inn". Some other folks on the historic tour of the house said they got to stay in an upper floor room, but we were in what was obviously a "cellar" (maybe we didn't pay enough for a real room?!). During the tour, they even said that the lower level was used to hide horses from enemy soldiers during the Civil War. Yuck!
As for the room itself, during the winter, it has a working gas fireplace, but it was shut off for the summer. The shower and water pressure was decent, the bed was comfortable. The heat/AC was adequate to keep the temperature comfortable, despite the rain and chill of being in the basement. The room and shower were well cleaned.
Parking was minimal, with our car parked about 200 feet away over gravel road (difficult for wheeled suitcases to traverse).
Oh, did I mention that the only amenities was Kurig coffee. The restaurant required reservations, and of course we had none. Good thing we had snacks with us!
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate this about a 6.5. Nowhere near as nice as I had expected, especially for the price.
- Taylor (8/5): - The property was extremely beautiful and the service was all around fantastic, I just would like there to be a few repairs. Also, please tell guest to be mindful that due to the property being well over 100 years old, that the walls are thin and that sound travels. I know it is not the fault of the hotel for noisy guests, but if it is 10pm and you're on the shared courtyard balcony arguing with your soon to be ex-wife, please walk further away from the main building and take your phone off speaker; nobody wants to hear about your divorce process when we're trying to sleep.
- Joyce (10/5): - It was a beautiful place to stay. The room was clean and the staff was pleasant and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Dunleith and learning about its history was an added bonus. We will definitely stay there again when in Natchez.
- Lori (4/5): - It's a beautiful place overall, check in was at 4pm, went ok, not much info given, hauled my luggage by myself up several flights of stairs, no one to help. got to the room, only to notice the top blanket was damp, stained and had a dead bug on it. I tried to call the front desk but the phone was not working. walked back down to the front desk only to find it locked and the one lady gone by 5pm. Walked around the property and saw some people who told me that there was a pub hidden in the back that was opened, so I went there to eat. The food and service was excellent at the pub. Wanted to swim later but the pool was not ready apparently. Went back to my room for a shower, the shower was not completely clean, had to rinse it before I got in. ugh gross. There was a woman ghost in my room, I actually saw her for a split second, one light bulb flickered, I got chills and was scared a little, but I left the lights on to sleep and the tv loud so I couldnt hear anything else. The second night, still no blanket. I thought about checking out, but by the time I got back from my conference the front office was closed. I left the lights and tv on again. At about 2 or 3am the power went out. I layed in bed, frozen scared to death. I prayed for the sun to come up. As soon as it did, I got out of bed and called the front desk, but, of course, no one answered. I got dressed and left out of that place as soon as possible. I can't believe there is not at least one staff member on property.
- Larry (4/5): - How sad that one of the premier antebellum homes in our country is being treated this way - and their guests as well. The receptionist was the most rude and unhelpful person I’ve encountered in over 65 years of world travel. Hope it sells and gets renewed to its former greatness. While staying in Natchez suggest staying at Monmouth 5 star.
- Gerald (8/5): - Beautiful antebellum mansion and the grounds are beautiful
- Philip (4/5): - The Castle pub food and service were excellent. The Mansion House looked beautiful from outside, but our room was not clean, the TV was small with a faulty remote, the safe didn't work and the bed was old and uncomfortable. Reception staff were helpful but there was no housekeeping unless requested and everything shut at 9pm.
- Steven (8/5): - Dunleith is an interesting, nice antebellum mansion. Unfortunately the restaurant and bar were closed the two nights we stayed there and it is a mile or so from downtown.
- Maria (6/5): - Rooms need some updating. Very nice staff
- Cynthia (10/5): - Very courteous staff. Comfortable bed, nice linens, clean room, clean bathroom. Photographs do not do this property justice. You just have to stay to experience all its grandeur. Everything as advertised and more. Would certainly stay again.
- louis (10/5): - A gorgeous and well kept property.
- Cecil (8/5): - Interesting place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice b&b…
- Charlotte (10/5): - Beautiful place! Great food!
- Herve (6/5): - No blankets, when the weather was freezing, no breakfast, reception in the morning did not knew the place, just the reception.
Beautiful place with outstanding architecture
- Bethany (8/5): - We have always wanted to stay at Dunleith, and we booked a room in the mansion for our anniversary. The Castle and Pub were great (as always); however, the check-in process was less than desirable (unprofessional), and the main house common areas were not clean. The floors had not been vacuumed in some time. Our room and bathroom were clean though. Also, there was no breakfast option on the property - that was on us, we should have checked. The property is absolutey beautiful. I hope more attention will be paid to cleanliness in the future.
- mark (8/5): Pretty historic property, friendly bar on site. - The whirlpool didn’t work, you had to take a shower in a high walled tub with no grab bar, but the water pressure was terrific. The toilet was missing a bolt so,it was woggly to sit on. The bedroom light fixtures were also wiggly to use. The bed was comfortable with great pillows. New it was very pretty, but presently needs a bit of maintenance. The bar was great with a great bartender, Rick. The restaurant offers tasty fare.
- Jennie (10/5): - Beautiful property. Wonderful restaurant on the property.
- Angela (10/5): - We enjoyed the beauty of this historic property and look forward to staying here each time we visit Natchez.
- Gale (8/5): - I loved the room we stayed in and the view from front of property!
The lights on the trees to the restaurant were magical!!!
I felt there were areas where there was trash in bushes and on the grounds that needed to be picked up.
Our bathroom had not had a good sweeping and mopping. That’s very important to do. Sweeping the whole room and mopping shows that you care about your customers.
The floors inside the house needed vacuumed, stairs needed vacuuming. It made it look unkept.
I felt the room price was very good.
- Steven (8/5): - The check in process with night staff left a lot to be desired.
- Patricia (6/5): - The service in the restaurant is great, and the food is great there. It's the reason we decided to book here on this trip. But there was no one to welcome guests at check-in for the bnb; instead, room keys were left outside in envelopes with guests' names. No breakfast at this bnb. Had to call this morning to find out what to do with keys at check-out. Room was beautiful and quiet but not much for hospitality (except in restaurant). There are plenty of other places to stay in Natchez that include a home tour, so we will stay at one of these other places next trip and just return for dinner at the restaurant.
- Marty (10/5): - This was a great place to stay! Beautiful property and very well maintained! The front desk staff was awesome and gave us some great suggestions on where to eat. Highly recommend!
- Jonathan (10/5): - Jonathan, the Manager at the property, went above and beyond for my wife’s birthday stay. When an error happened because of the system between them and Expedia, he made it right!
When we return to Natchez, we will definitely stay here again!
- Stephane (6/5): - I seem to have a basement room! There was no telephone in room for service. Accessibility to room wasn’t good! Parking was awkward. Wouldn’t choose this location again!
- Melony (10/5): - Love this place!
- Rebecca (10/5): - The bed was comfortable, the ac worked REALLT GOOD, there was a stand fan in the room already. The hot water was HOT HOT HOT, wonderful deep tub, fridge and coffee in the room. If you like the historic look this is the place. It was beautiful and very comfortable.
- Kerri (6/5): - Just wasnt the best experience for what we paid.
- Susan (8/5): - Beautiful setting and comfortable room. The restaurant is wonderful.
- John (10/5): - Beautiful property, lovely bedrooms and added bonus of restaurant and bar on site. Highly recommend
- Anita (10/5): - Our stay was wonderful. The views were amazing, the room was huge and yet very cozy, the bathtub was incredible and the bed was the cherry on top! We slept very well on the awesome mattress inside a four poster bed that was beautiful. The only thing I could have wished for was “a dumb waiter,” to carry my luggage to the 3rd floor. Don’t over pack! But, the jet bath tub definitely made up for any discomfort getting to my room.
- June (10/5): Trip - We enjoyed it. Place was beautiful. Had a restaurant, the Castle, we eat there for breakfast. The food was good. Went for the Natchez Balloon Festival.
- Andre (2/5): - Old
- Gregory (4/5): - Our room was very dark with no natural light. The one window that was there opened onto a passageway wall so provided no light.
Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable.
Bathroom very small with black mould on the sealant. Only one roll of toilet paper with no spare roll anywhere.
Room air conditioning noisy.
Room was not serviced .
Only the pub was available for food, not the restaurant, though food could be chosen from either menu.
- anthony (10/5): - Great stay and LD made our arrival absolutely perfect!!
- Raleigh (6/5): - The property was one of the best in Natchez. At one time. The main house was amazing, unfortunately we got a basement unit next to the main house when maybe they openly had five or six units rented on total property. Was safe and a nice place to visit.
- louis (10/5): - A gorgeous and well maintained property. Close to everything
- Randy and April (4/5): - The property is beautiful and it was a quaint experience to stay several nights in an antebellum mansion with period decor. However, the only interaction we had was the person behind the counter who checked us in. There was to-go food containers and trash bags in the upstairs hallway. By our second day, it smelled. The trash was left over from a wedding the WEEKEND before (7 days before our checkin)! Our room was not serviced with towels while we were there. There wasn’t water available, except from the tap. No breakfast options, except the restaurant on site. When we checked out, the poor guy didn’t even ask how the stay had been….. Dunleith could add a few little things to make this a sold out destination. 😔
- Allison (6/5): - Beautiful historic property with cost equitable to local hotel rooms. Very poor lighting in parking area at night, no visible staff on property except check in area, no replenishment of towels/room cleaning for entire 3-day stay, property open-absolutely not secure as mansion door unlocked at all times, and 2nd floor common space extremely dirty/messy from a wedding held one week prior to our arrival!
- Emerson (2/5): - I had a reservation through expedia and when we got there the hotel didn't have our reservation. I don't know if it was the hotel or Expedia. But neither of the two fixed my problem. I was 3 hrs away from home and after 2 hrs of dealing with them, I ended up driving back home at midnight because Natchez did not have an available room anywhere at midnight.
The place looked nice on the outside and the restaurant seemed busy at 9pm.
The manager on call did not bothered to speak with me. He let the front desk clerk deal with me and told him to tell me that I need to contact the third party and deal with them. Which was Expedia, and so my odyssey went on. Neither Expedia or the hotel manager solved my problem. They ruined my anniversary night. I've used Expedia many times. But I'm not sure if I'll be using them long after this.
- Suzanne (10/5): - Lovely historic house. Friendly, helpful staff.
- Maxilynn (6/5): - This reservation was a bday gift from my husband and me to his cousin. The first issue came when she arrived for check in and the two bedroom loft we reserved was not available and they tried putting them (cousin and friend) in a single room with one bed. They ended up with a two room connected space which in the end worked out but it was a hassle to get checked in. My other issue is that Expedia advertises Dunleith as a bed and breakfast. Breakfast was NOT included. The whole check-in debacle and the mixup with the no breakfast at a “bed and breakfast” was a bit disappointing, but I think she enjoyed the trip overall.
- Janna (10/5): - Dunleith is a beautiful property, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Robin (10/5): Dunleith deserves 5 Stars - My stay at Dunleith was incredible. The grounds were beautiful and the room was immaculate with all the little extras like coffee, luxurious towels, a jetted tub, and super cool air conditioning. The complimentary breakfast was worth the price of the room! The staff made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. I will definitely stay again.
- Stephen (10/5): - Wonderful historic site. Our room was fantastic and the property is stunning.
- Penne (8/5): - I so wanted to love this place. The pictures on their website were so beautiful. It wasn’t at all what I expected. The room was very dark and pretty much outdated. I get it’s an old place but so many things could be better. The shower was a nightmare. The faucet handles were loose. The parking was terrible, had to walk in mud. Breakfast was provided but very limited and food was cold. Really disappointed. Too many other B & B’s to stay. Will not stay here again. Sorry!
- Kevin (8/5): - Interesting staying in such a vintage property. We were on the third floor so quite a little hike from parking to the room. But it was still pretty neat. Restaurant and pub was closed as we were there on July 4th. Didn’t know until we arrived. Overall still a decent place. The gentleman the the check in counter was very cordial and informative.
- John M (8/5): - The home is stunning… from a distance, but the maintenance of the grounds was disappointing. The water in the fountain was green… the grass was too high… the attention to detail you’d expect simply wasn’t there. I can empathize… help has been hard to find & competition in the market likely fierce.
The Castle Restaurant on site is outstanding as was the Pub below.
- Robert (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at the Dunleith Inn. The house and grounds are spectacular, as are the staff. Special thanks to LD at reception, Todd at the pub, and Brittany at breakfast. Whenever we're in Natchez, or even somewhat close, we always steer towards Dunleith. And, the food at the Castle (located on the grounds a few steps from our lodging), is spectacular -- along with the spirits and atmosphere. Thanks to everyone for another wonderful stay.
- Lyn and John (8/5): Lovely setting, room needed an inspection! - Dunleith is a beautiful setting. The pub and restaurant mean you can eat on site and you can swim too. We chose a low level room. It was nicely appointed. We sat outside on the chairs and enjoyed the afternoon. However, you could hear the people next door and above clearly, there were a lack of PowerPoints that worked, light bulbs were blown and the shower curtain was very mouldy. It was a bit grimy. We felt the room itself needed someone to inspect it. The website also states bathrobes… we asked where they were. The answer oh! We don’t do them anymore and haven’t since Covid. We’ll update your website. Food was nice. Beer… need a menu in the pub
- Julie (10/5): - Beautiful property in a lovely area, all the staff where extremely helpful and very friendly .. would definitely recommend
- Christopher (10/5): - Amazing historic property in excellent condition. Restored rooms with modern amenities. Awesome breakfast !
- Paul (10/5): - Historical
- Shawn (10/5): King for a day - Our stay was wonderful from start to finish the historic pub swimming pool temperature every single thing about this place was very special. We have the best time.
- Carrie (6/5): - understaffed. dated.
- Gregg (4/5): - Rude staff when checking in. Didn’t get the room we paid for. Bed & breakfast-breakfast was Jimmy Dean Sausage/cheese biscuit or ham & egg biscuit you cooked yourself in microwave. Housekeeping failed to anything to service our room. Very pretty property but we won’t stay there again or recommend it to anyone. Big disappointment for what you paid for. Do research before booking. I recommend small privately owned homes for true B&B experience.
- David (4/5): - Beautiful surroundings. Room was only adequate. Room was in adjoining building, not in main house. House tours were not included in room rate.
Breakfast was a disappointment, very little selection.
Shower curtain was dirty and there were loose and broken tiles at bath tub.
For the cost of accomodation this was not what we expected.
I would not recommend this facility.
- Marianne (2/5): - When we checked in, we were not given the room we booked through Expedia. We had booked a queen room in the main house, but were given a loft room in the back of the house. The desk staff said there was nothing that could be done because we booked through Expedia. Totally disappointed because we went way out of our way to travel and experience the antebellum mansion. We left the next day early and the breakfast did not start until 8 pm so we did not even get to partake in that. So disappointing. We could have done a tour and stayed in a Hampton Inn. Really disappointed in the lack of response from the hotel.
Grounds are beautiful and restraurant was great for dinner.
- Kathy (10/5): - Beautiful property. The Staff were amazing. Will stay again.
- Patsy (10/5): Beautiful Historical Property - Loved the property and our accommodations. Staff extremely friendly, professional, and most helpful.
I would stay here again.
- Glenn (10/5): - Loved our little getaway of sorts - will be back soon
- Christopher (6/5): Clean, well located and good bar - A lovely place to stay in Natchez - especially with the Castle bar and restaurant. An easy walk in to town and all Natchez has to offer. The breakfast was very limited, we actually walked back out and went to town instead. We also had room 103 - if you get it, decline the room. It has no natural light or view.
- clayton (8/5): - Loved the grounds and the pub bar and restaurant.
Didn’t like the slow response when our toilet broke and no one came to fix it, so finally we had to ask for a plunger and fix it ourselves. Then the beautiful claw foot tub I was so looking forward to taking a bubble bath in only worked on hot water and it was scalding hot. The other complaint is no housekeeping service while we were out all day.
- Cynthia (8/5): - The Dunleith Inn was very familiar to me as I grew up coming to my Grandmothers house just down the street every summer.
It is furnished with high quality finishes but needs more light in the rooms and more staff direction for the property at check-in re: access to all areas and any events scheduled during the stay.
- Glenn (10/5): - Very nice old estate; unique rooms, lovely grounds.
- Karen (2/5): - We made our reservations through Expedia for this property to experience the Natchez pilgrimage. It was a mistake. Check in was at 3 on March 17th, the room was not ready and by 6:00 with our second visit to the front desk they Sent a maid to finish the room and the maid was not happy about her work. There were no face towels in the room but the room was acceptable. The grounds were a total wreak, there had been wedding the day before. There was trash everywhere, beer bottles, liquor bottles, and all kinds of trash. Minimal effort was given to the cleanup but much of it was still there when we checked out on the 19th. The breakfast that was advertised was awful. It was basically packaged waffles and sausage biscuits in a package for the microwave. On top of that the coffee machine was broken in the breakfast area. This morning we went down at 8:30 am and there was no one at the front desk to handle checkout. It took 30 minutes to find someone. Overall I believe we would have had better service at a motel 6. Understaffed, bad attitude, worse service!!! Not worth the price we paid to stay…
- John (10/5): - We had a wonderful anniversary weekend getaway at Dunleith Historic Inn. The staff is friendly and will work to meet your every ask. Don’t miss the onsite restaurant, Castle, great food, great atmosphere. Dunleith is a great launching point for exploring, touring and learning about Natchez.
- Janet Looney (2/5): - My stay was very bad. Check in: They made a 72 year old woman carry 6 bags up an uncovered stair in the pouring rain to Third floor room. The room had not been serviced so they told me to carry it all back down to my car, move to another building and up another set of stairs. Rain still pouring. New room smelled of pesticide refrigerator didn’t work no ice no bottled water. I was alone in this remote building. Toilet ran all night. The bed was comfortable to be fair. Only bright spot was the man at the bar who gave me two glasses of water and a baggie of ice to carry back so that I could brush my teeth. My son’s wedding was at Dunleith 20 years ago. It is very sad to see how it has deteriorated.
- Whitney (10/5): - Amazing plantation home.
- john (8/5): - Charming and comfortable! Coffee maker in room and in breakfast
Room didn’t work. Light bulb in room
