Guest Reviews
- gilles (10/5): Excellente -
- Arvisais (8/5): This was for our 50th wedding anniversary, looking for a nice and quiet place, it was perfect. - Good breakfast, lots of choices.
Good chocolate pieces too.
This was for our 50th wedding anniversary, looking for a nice and quiet place, it fulfill our expectations.
We will come back.
- Sophie Jasmine (9/5): Quiet and relqx - Service a la clientele Pourboire for everything
Small tv
- G (9/5): Beautiful, comfortable clean room with terrific breakfast. - Beautiful clean property. Bed was fantastic, super comfortable and the sheets were great too. Very nice river view. Breakfast was terrific with excellent service. It was nice to have a small fridge in the room, but it was very noisy when the compressor would go on and off during the night.
- Johanne (9/5): Super!! - Accueil incroyable!! Tout était bien!
- Elizabeth (10/5): -
- Tony (8/5): Wonderful location! We will not be back at this Inn! - Very Clean , excellent Location, good breakfast! This was our 2nd visit. Were here last year same dates (anniversary).
No acknowledgement at all considering on our first visit we booked their most expensive room!
Customer service almost inexistent!
Room overpriced, considering available amenities!
- Alison (5/5): Great location. Clean rooms. King comfortable. Check hidden costs/prices; bring own tea bags! - The room was very clean, and a good size (we had an incredibly comfortable King sized bed - this was a treat !!).
We also had easy access to our room, and I liked the common room area (where you could get cold & hot water, teabags, etc & just sit & read. It was in an excellent location - on the lake, within walking distance to some local restaurants and shops, and a short drive from Hovey manor/Le Tap Room.
The breakfast was fine, and service was reasonable but if your hotel stay says "breakfast included" - do ask "if there are any additional costs" that are hidden!! Additional "hidden" & unreasonable costs. Rude host. Noise.
Our king size room for 2 nights included breakfast, for two mornings - totaling $518.
However when we got our bill we had extra charges ( 2 x TH 3.5% - 18.12 ??? no idea what that was, AND 4 pourboire dejeuner $14 ??? no idea what this was either - was it a "forced tip"??), so an extra $32 here !
At check-in we were told to help ourselves to beer, soft drink or tea bags (hot water machine in this room) in the Common room. At checkout we told them we took 1 can of coors beer & 2 teabags (to make ourselves tea) - that cost us another $17.98 - the two "plain" teabags were most expensive I ever had - they alone cost 7.98!!!!
Final bill (NOT including taxes) was $568.09, extra $50.....so x-tra charges for breakfast $32 and outrageous charge for teabags!
With taxes our bill came to $653.16 - they asked if I could pay by debit card (their preference). After they'd entered hotel bill amount, and passed it to me, up popped "tip" suggestions - starting at 18% no less !!! I've never seen that before.
I only (hope) it was because they also serve breakfast & lunch to people off the street; I hope it wasn't requesting add'l money for hotel service !!
At breakfast, there was a counter with extra napkins. These were the thin rectangular napkins you see in diners (paper thin, not fancy!). My husband got some extra napkins for me because I had a runny nose. The cook/owner came and took them from him - saying he had too many. I told him I needed an extra napkin. He left 2 of these flimsy napkins but said gruffly to my husband "to ask in future". His tone and manner most unpleasant !
(If napkins are that precious, why put them out where customers can access them??)
It is an old wooden structure - so you may have noise; one night we had people staying above us and they walked quite "heavily", on heels of their feet.
- Guest (9/5): Idyllic stay in North Hatley - The room was beautiful and very peaceful in every way. The breakfast was superb as well The staff seemed frustrated at times
No fresh towels the second day
- kara (10/5): - Huge delicious breakfast included They charged us for the coffee for the free breakfast!
- Lou (9/5): Lovely little town. The inn is very central and the views of the lake are wonderful. - The breakfast was incredibly delicious! The view of the lake was lovely from our room. Our room was on the third floor. It was lovely but a lot of stairs. Parking can be tricky to find on the street. We were charged for two drinks when checking out that we did not purchase.
- Dairne (10/5): - We stayed 3 nights in October. The staff was very nice and it was a comfortable stay. I would definitely stay here again! So conveniently located.
- Chris (8/5): - It’s a great location above the chocolate shop and cafe. Breakfast each morning was pleasant. They had gf options which we appreciated.
- Gilmara (5/5): -
- Robert (10/5): - Good people, very personable and accommodating and the location was perfect. I was a one day/night excursion into that part of Quebec and the overall experience was memorable
- Michael (10/5): - Great breakfast included.
- Hilarie (6/5): Not worth the price. Unfriendly. Unwelcoming. - Great location in North Hatley which is a beautiful village. Breakfast was pretty good. Staff were pretty unfriendly until day 2 & then only the Dad (family owned & run) was nice. Day 1 we were told a bunch of rules of what not to do on arrival. No smiles. Asked for a map of the Eastern Townships or tips on what to do/see and nothing was available. Nothing!
We felt very pressured to tip/pay more… asked on the pay machine to give 18-25% on the total bill?!?!pay by debit not credit card, leave a tip for the maid in the room despite being told no cleaning offered on a 2 night stay.
Towels were thin. Toilet paper thin. Bed way too hard. Room so small 2 of us were bashing knees into the queen bed which took up 75% of the room.
Priced like a spa hotel but no spa treatment at all. Just tiny motel soap bars.
- Marilyn (10/5): - Lovely inn. Great location
- Bernadette (5/5): Very brusque management - good location but not a lot of choices in tiny town Staff were very brusque and unfriendly. Demanded to be paid in cash or debit card, refused visa.
coffeemaker old fashioned, used loose coffee grounds and leaked, fridge very noisy and had to be unplugged so we could sleep without noise
- William (10/5): - All was good. We had a great time. We olan to go back again next year.
- Isabel (10/5): Wonderful place with wonderful staff! - Generous breakfast, lots of options to choose from.
Very kind and attentive staff.
Clean facilities.
Will definitely go again. Nothing to complain about except you should know they don't have parking so it's only street parking available. Might be an issue during high season. EV charging station right across the street.
- Patrick (10/5): - Pleasant weekend getaway.
- Mary (10/5): - Loved checking in at a chocolate shop! Delicious and fast breakfast. Scrupulously clean room and bath. Very comfortable. Merci!
- Nancy (8/5): Great location, very friendly staff! We shall return! - Excellent location, very friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing….and I already miss my daily dark chocolate mocha!!! We will certainly return.
We travelled by motorcycle, parked right in front in public parking with no worries at all. Great pub just across the street for drinks and excellent dinner.
- Jacob (10/5): -
- Judith (7/5): - Breakfast excellent- coffee could have been stronger
It was very quiet in the auberge
Staff were friendly We had to take off our shoes in our room
No small fridge in the room
No ice machine
- Caroline (8/5): Bien aimé - Excellent Pas de stationnement
- micheline (9/5): Excellent - Le confort Rien en particulier
- Kathi (9/5): -
- robert (8/5): Sa c est bien passe - Bon Rien
- Richard (9/5): -
- charlene (10/5): -
- Alain (10/5): -
- Fallahi (10/5): A spotless, comfortable, and welcoming stay with amazing food and friendly staff. - We had a wonderful stay at this Auberge. Everything was impeccably clean, and the staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and always smiling. The breakfast was delicious, and we also enjoyed lunch here—the chili was excellent. The drinks, especially the hot chocolate, were amazing. And the Chocolates were out of this world.
The location is great, and we stayed in an extension of the property that was newly renovated, spotless, and very comfortable. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we highly recommend this Auberge. One thing to note is that at checkout, payment was only accepted by cash or debit card. This was not mentioned on Booking.com. It wasn’t an issue for us, but it could be a problem for travelers who don’t carry enough cash. It would be much better if this information was clearly stated in advance.
- Lussier (10/5): WOW - Juste Wow
- Guest (10/5): Great - Location, value Stairs
- Alice (10/5): - This property is absolutely delightful! We loved the availability of dessert treats to bring to our room!
- George (6/5): Where’s the chocolate? The owners don’t seem to understand they’re in the hospitality business.? We were greeted by a - It’s very pretty and well located. Rooms are fairly comfortable. Breakfasts are good. - minimal room amenities-tiny scraps of soap, half filled hotel shampoo mini bottles, one toilet paper roll for a 2 night stay.
- no housekeeping service even though they cleaned other rooms. We were informed ahead of time, there was no choice like in other establishments.
- the common room was not supplied with anything to make tea or coffee other than hot water. There were some ancient bitter teabags and a couple of leftover sugar sacks, that’s it. It was also very hot, the a/c remote had been removed.
- we twice had items stolen from the provided fridge in the common room.
- other than the ladies serving breakfast, the owner and his family don’t seem to understand that they’re in the hospitality business.
- Yuji (6/5): We live in the area but stayed there for our staycation. It’s not worth it. - Free breakfast. The furniture was mishmash and the decor was not charming.
They made us pay by debit but they ended it up charging it to our credit card used to book. Very confusing.
- Damien (8/5): -
- France (9/5): -
- Kenneth (8/5): - Lovely old property in the centre of the village. Parking was a bit of an adventure but once we located a spot near the inn we walked everywhere. I would recommend it for an overnight stop.
- Jason (10/5): - Beautiful location. Friendly team running the Auberge. Nice clean rooms and common spaces. Great included breakfast.
- Louisette (8/5): -
- Cathleen (10/5): - Perfect location within the beautiful town with views of the lake! Clean, comfortable rooms, lovely hosts and delicious breakfast and chocolate!

- Marie-Claude (10/5): -
- Suzanne (8/5): - The hotel is a charming old building in an unbeatable location. The rooms are exceptionally clean and updated. Parking is on the road in front, breakfast is delicious. The only downside I found is that the walls and ceiling are pretty thin. The people staying above us must have gotten up a half dozen times during the night, and by 6am sounded like a herd of elephants up there. Overall, we were very pleased overall despite the loud footsteps overhead.

- Guest (9/5): Hotel location great but sleepy little town - Great Location good Breakfast The whole town goes to Sleep at 7pm on a Saturday ?
- Aina (6/5): The facilities were great but the service very unwelcoming and rude. - Auberge la Chocolaterie met our expectations facility wise. Our room was clean and very comfortable and looked like what was offered in the images. The building is located in the charming center of North Hatley and we enjoyed the view of the mountains and lake while eating our breakfasts. The breakfast was also very yummy and filling. When checking out our bill included a mandatory 3.50 CAD, per person and per breakfast tip. Since we were two people and had stayed for two nights the added amount was 14 CAD. I've read that in Canada some establishments add a mandatory tip, which for me is not a problem although I think this should be clearly stated when making the booking so it doesnt come as a surprise. What left a bad taste from this accommodation however, was the server that attended to us at breakfast time. He was not very friendly and acted like we were a bother to him despite us being kind and respectful. On the second morning he said to my partner and I "Good morning Vietnam" (we are both of Asian heritage), not in a friendly way but in a mocking way. This felt very uncomfortable and added to our uneasy feeling from the staff.
- Paige (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Chocolatier. Great location, nice people, and fabulous chocolate!
- Amelie (4/5): Disappointing and Disheartening Stay - The location The property may be in a good location, but hospitality is about how people make you feel, and this place made us feel unwelcome, ignored, and overcharged.
On arrival day, the village had a power outage. This wasn’t the hotel’s fault. What shocked us was the complete lack of empathy or leadership from the owners. Instead of checking on guests or offering help, they simply vanished. When we returned from dinner, the hotel was dark, no lights, flashlights, candles, or communication. No one was there.
As my father said: “If I were the owner, I’d stay until every guest was back safely and help however I could.”
The next morning, still no power. Again, not their fault, but the it's the way they handled it. No communication. No goodwill. Then came the "included" breakfast: one pastry or porridge, one small cup of filter coffee. My boyfriend asked for hot chocolate instead, they agreed, then charged full price as an extra. I asked for both a croissant and porridge (half-joking about the lack of shower), they charged $18 extra.
They also pushed for cash or debit payment via Booking.com and over the phone. We initially agreed but changed our minds after how things unfolded. We understood the power outage wasn’t their doing, we just expected a small gesture, like waiving the surprise breakfast charges. But they showed no interest in fairness or hospitality, only in collecting every cent.
What could’ve been a minor inconvenience revealed a purely transactional mindset that doesn’t belong in hospitality.
- Vanessa (5/5): - Camera accogliente.
- Ellen (9/5): Wonderful and charming. - Lovely facilities and great staff. Nothing to mention!
- Bouchard (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Classic Auberge - Centrally located classic inn with a wonderful bistro attached and fantastic chocolates for sale in the lobby. Staff was helpful and we enjoyed walking through the town.
- yve (9/5): -
- David (6/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Bedroom and bath were small but clean. Breakfast was fine but not exceptional. But for the price, I didn't think Auberge delivered the charm as was promised in ads. No one freshened my room in 3-day stay, yet 18% tip was recommended minimum tip! Especially off-putting: cheapest, thinnest possible toilet paper and kleenex, soap bars size: approx 1-1/2 x 1 x 1/4 inch (approx 40 x 25 x 3 mm)!
- Marie-Pierre (8/5): - It was a great stay, breakfast included was generous and really appreciated . A family owned business where you can tell they are there for the right reasons.
- Pierre (7/5): -
- Piper (10/5): - Great little boutique hotel very clean and comfortable friendly staff and lovely breakfast
- Michelle (10/5): - Phenomenal staff, very personable and friendly. The location was central and very
Convenient. All good!
- Guest (9/5): -
- Arnaud (9/5): À refaire ! - C’était familiale
- Mirella (8/5): - Great little place in excellent location and easy to walk around the village. Very friendly and kind staff managed by a lovely family. Rooms very clean breakfast was amazing!!
- Greg (10/5): - Perfect way to experience North Hatley:)
- Terry (9/5): So good would recommend to anyone. Taste the chocolate!! - Great location. Friendly responsive proprietors, great breakfast included, comfortable rooms Noise from the road in the morning
